I ordered the shrimp and grits based upon reviews here and I'm sorry I did. They were the worst shrimp and grits I've ever had. The taste was comparable to frozen shrimp with instant grits poured over them. I went with a friend to try this restaurant out. First off, the customer service was crappy, the waiter took forever to give us our drinks and to refill them, so that was strike one. Then we ordered our food. I have seen good reviews on the shrimp and grits so I decided to order that. I am from up north and we don't have shrimp and grits up there. I tried the Shrimp and grits from Edgars Grille and fell in love, just not with their price. I decided to try Rae's Shrimp and grits to see if they were any better and, OMG they were awful. No, the word awful is too nice of a word to describe the dish. It was watery, clumpy, some of the shrimp were clod and tasted old, and the icing on the cake was when I had to pull shells left on the shrimp out of my mouth. I was so done with this restaurant. 1st time dining here so I asked for a recommendation. Waitress suggested the crab cake lunch special so I accepted. One crab cake, small helping of yellow rice with black beans with a sauce, a handful of soggy salad with mushy croutons and one very small roll all for the lunch special price of $14.58! Decent ambiance in a peaceful getaway setting tucked away in a neighborhood. If you are looking for a real change of pace it's a nice place to try but not somewhere I would go often. read more

an upscale type place for augusta standards nestled in a townhouse neighborhood. its really hard to find as it's covered with trees, but it is definitely worth trying because the food was good and the service is very good also.... there seems to be a pretty long line so expect to wait... have a beer and chill read more

One of my new favorite restaurants. The crabmeat sandwich is flavorful and full of crab with the right amount of tartar sauce. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly. The power went out due to a strong storm while we were there and everything kept right along. I can't wait to return. read more

To say this place is off the beaten path would be an understatement. Trust your GPS on this one cause you'll think it is broken. That being said, the destination is worth the journey. The place looks so authentic both inside and out that you'll be expecting to hear sea gulls and smell the salt air. My first course was the she crab soup, which was the best I've ever had anywhere. I would have eaten a gallon of it if they would have put it in front of me. The menu was very diverse and representative of Caribbean fare. Wanting to get a taste of variety from the menu, I went with the trio, which consisted of jerk pork, mahi mahi, and coconut shrimp. The jerk flavoring of the pork was bold and intense without being too much heat, very tasty and representative of the cuisine. The seafood portions were flavored and seasoned perfectly as well. I definitely want to try the jerk chicken on my next visit as I'm sure it will be a home run too. read more

Arrive by 7 pm at the latest if you love the Jerk Chicken. After that, you run the risk of serious dryness of the meat. (Didn't give 5 just for that, but I should've gone earlier. It has happened a few times.. 4.5 would be my rating if i could), I get that, because I think they are grilling all day?. The food is still so good, cause they have great sauces you can dip in, and anyone who eats here needs to love spicy food. The jerk pork chops are awesome as well, noticed before that they tend to run out early on a Saturday night. I really love the jerk chicken, but my very favorite is the Frogmore Stew.. I've always known it as Low Country Boil and the menu description doesn't lie... be prepared for spice! The house salad is BOMB! Add a little of the peach n pepper sauce on the table to your salad, chicken, or chops. LOVE that sauce. The service at Rae's has always been awesome.. great martinis. The Key Lime martini, a staple, a tad sweet for me but worth trying at least once. I enjoy the Pomegranate martini here, too :) I saw some reviews about a dark atmosphere, but that is what I really like about this place. It's almost like a boat shack feel. Fish tanks, wood. I like the vibe at Rae's. I can see why it would be a hard find if you are not a local but we have GPS, yay...it is worth the venture if you find yourself in Augusta, GA. read more

My friend and I were in town for the Ironman event last weekend and lucked into finding this place thanks to yelp and a local shuttle driver who also recommended and knew how to find the quaintly tucked away restaurant! It was easily identifiable as a "locals" hangout by the friendly atmosphere that was comfortable and fun just like you would expect to find at a "Coastal Café". There were many wonderful sounding entrée selections and we couldn't decide on just one so we ordered the "Trilogy". It was a nice smaller sampling of each of their main signature dishes- jerk pork, mahi mahi and coconut shrimp. Upon our request, the server graciously substituted the jerk chicken instead of the pork. All were tasty and delicious including the side serving of black beans and rice! For dessert, we had the key lime pie. I consider myself a tough critic on key lime pie, but definitely give Rae's pie 5 stars!! The review continues because thanks to the friendly staff and great meal we enjoyed on Friday, we decided to return to Rae's for our victory dinner following the race. This time we started with the Key Lime Martinis!! Not too sweet and not too tart-FABULOUS!! (We ordered several to make sure!) We decided to try two dishes we wanted to try but passed over on Friday evening, the crab cakes and the shrimp and grits. Once again, the flavors of each dish were delectable! Thanks Rae's Coastal Café for adding a little extra fun and Caribbean happiness into our Augusta weekend adventure! Not sure when...but we will be back! read more

I really wanted to like Rae's, but don't think we will be back. It was a promising start; a full parking lot on a Thursday evening and a quirky beach look complete with rusty tin roof. The clientele was mostly older and well-heeled. We started out with an Onion Mum appetizer that was inedible - room temperature with too much batter. The waiter offered to take it off the bill. The signature salad was just OK. I had the salmon, which was nicely done and moist. The crab cake special at our table got two thumbs up from my son. My wife had a $29 turf and surf that featured an over-cooked and over-salted cut of cheap sirloin, along with a few coconut shrimp that were decent. For $88, to include a kids meal, minus tip, you can do better elsewhere. Augusta needs more quality non-chain restaurants, but Rae's Coastal sadly doesn't fit the bill for us. read more

We order soup and both times it was cold then a person who seemed like a manager walks up to the table and apologizes due to a heating element causing the cold soup cool move but then he says that our meal less beverages would be "on the house" we stated that was not necessary be he insisted. But when the check comes of course it is full price. We understand problems that can occur but don't make promises that you don't keep we paid full price did not complain and simple left by the way it was our first time at your restaurant read more

I always try to find local places when I travel. I read one review on Yelp and was glad that the writer mentioned that it was "out of the way". I almost gave up when I saw the small sign at the entrance to the condo community that it is located in. I am so glad that I persisted. The atmosphere was very comfortable and nice. The staff and the food was fantastic! I will definitely come back my next time in town and I will recommend it to anyone/everyone that asks. read more

This place is great. I always order the ribs. The sauce is awesome. Only once or twice have they screwed up the ribs, but I am usually satisfied. The meat comes right off the bone. The potato salad it comes with is great. Also the interior of the place is nice. read more

Love this place. It is a hidden treasure in Augusta! Amazing that they do not advertise but always busy and frequented by the locals. Great atmosphere with a covered deck so you can eat outside when the weather permits. The menu includes jerk chicken, coconut shrimp and much more, but my favorite is the Rae's salad that is so well known. read more

I've lived in Augusta all my life and this is one of my favorite local restaurants. It also has a full bar! This is one of those restaurants that most people would not know about unless you lived in Augusta! For a "non-local" it's a little hard to find but well worth the trip! It's located on Rae's Creek (yes it's the same Rae's Creek that runs thtough the Augusta National Golf Course) hince the name "Rae's"! In nice weather you can eat on the deck overlooking the creek! 'great atmosphere, great food and great service. The house salad is a old Augusta favorite from the Green Jacket Restaurant (now closed) which used to be located directly accross the street from the Augusta National's main entrance! The salads and sandwiches are great for lunch and the entrees at night are very good also! It's owned by a couple and one of them is there all the time! Give it a try! read more

The place is a dump -- uneven floor and DIRTY. The food is not worth the visit much less what they charge. Just mediocre.

Not sure who posted all those wonderful reviews but here's OUR experience. Last Sunday evening around 7:30 PM we walk in and we're shown to our table. Inside is dark but if you look around everything, including carpet, wall covering, etc. is old and dirty. We order 'She crab soup' and fish: my wife had the salmon, I had the blackened Mahi-Mahi. The soup was cold, more mushroomy than crabby, with way too much heavy cream in it - couldn't eat it. The bread rolls were the type you buy at any food store and stick in the oven: they came out extremely hard on the bottom and undone in the middle - couldn't eat them. Both fish were on the dry side with no flavor: my potatoes were some too mushy, some undone. Our waitress realized the situation but made no attempt to call the manager or even ask if we wanted to exchange our selection - we still left 20% gratuity. All in all a bad experience: we will not go back and we'd advise others to stay away too. read more
