Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here, but the interaction at checkout definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Our reservation was from 10 AM-12 PM for $65, and we arrived about 10 minutes late. Prior to arriving, I added a 12:30 PM massage for an additional $119. My massage ended around 1:27 PM, and I went directly to check out around 1:30 PM without showering or spending any additional time in the facilities. At checkout, I was told I owed an additional $10 because I had stayed 15 minutes over my allotted time. I explained that I had not stayed an extra 15 minutes--I was in a massage that I separately booked and paid $119 for. Instead of simply explaining how they calculated the overage, the employee continued to argue with me and insist that I pay it. It was never about the $10. It was about being charged an additional fee for time I was literally spending receiving another paid service at their establishment. If booking a massage does not extend or account for your time on the property, that should be clearly communicated beforehand. Hello, I would like to share a concerning experience I had at this establishment last month. I visited with my sister to celebrate her birthday and, although I initially experienced some difficulty booking through the website, I was able to resolve the issue with assistance from the owner, who helped facilitate our reservation. Upon arrival, our spa experience was generally enjoyable and there were no major issues. My only minor concern at the time was that staff were occasionally difficult to locate when needed. On two occasions, I had to request assistance to address issues with the drink ordering machine, which was malfunctioning. However, after returning home, I noticed a $65 charge on my account for a body wash that I did not purchase. I reached out via email and text to inquire, assuming it may have been an error. In response, I was informed that my party and I were the last guests on the premises and that the item may have been accidentally taken. I found this allegation very surprising and deeply concerning. I responded to clarify that neither I nor my sister took any items from the facility, and also noted that we did not use the showers or come into contact with any body cleansing products during our visit. As we were the only African-American guests present at the time, the implication that we were responsible for the missing item was particularly upsetting and felt inappropriate. I also questioned why, if there was a genuine concern about a missing item, we were not contacted directly to discuss the matter before a charge was applied. Given the rapport I believed I had established with the owner through prior communication, I would have expected a direct conversation rather than an assumption of wrongdoing and an unauthorized charge. I felt it was important to share this experience with the community to highlight concerns regarding how the situation was handled and to encourage awareness of customer service practices at this location. I did ultimately receive an apology and a refund; however, the nature of the accusations left a lasting negative impression. I am deeply disappointed by how this situation was handled and, as a result, will not be returning to or recommending this establishment. Let me start by saying I had really high hopes for this place. We live five minutes away and there's nothing like it in the area so I eagerly awaited their opening and then waited a little bit for them to iron out kinks before I went. Living in New York in San Francisco I did get spoiled by some Incredible day spa experiences. For starters, everything is during appointment times which meant everyone showing up for their timeslot came within a 10 minute window. They only have one person at the front desk registering you and one lady was there helping to give the towels. It took almost 20 minutes to check in. Streamlining this process with allowing the second person to do check-in as well would have been a lot faster. Upon entering the women's changing room, we were all like sardines in a can. It's a tiny little room and we were all there at the same time. I typically bring things to get ready after the spa, but there was nowhere to sit down and get ready. The lighting on the mirrors in the bathroom was very dim and there was no counter space to do my make up. This was disappointing as we had a dinner date after the spa and I had brought everything to get ready and we had to go home to get ready first. Once we entered the spa area it was clean. But very small. There is only one small soaking pool, which is held at room temperature. So it wasn't somewhere you want to hang out for too long. That pool accommodate four people. And you're pretty close together so it's awkward. I was excited for the cold plunge next to it, but it's not a plunge. It's more like a seat. You can't fully dunk yourself. There are two dry saunas and one wet sauna. The wet sauna had a fan in it. That was so loud that it was not relaxing to sit there at all. The Arctic room also had a very loud fan and it was windy and cold. Usually cold rooms are just cold not windy. Also found that very unpleasant. Given there wasn't really anywhere to sit and soak for a long time. We really only had the options of the dry sauna. The relaxation rooms were very lackluster. We left after spending less than an hour there. We had booked for two hours, but there's really nothing to do as it wasn't the Zen and relaxing space I'd hoped for. The front desk attendant said that it's a lot less crowded during the week. We had to wait to go into the pool and the cold plunge. At the price of $65 a person I didn't find it to be worth it. read more

Tried out this place with a couple of ladies. It was very nice as soon as you walk in. Lovely scent and welcoming. It was easy to check in and we got our set that included a towel, robe and slippers we got instructions and headed in. We didn't take pictures because there was a sign no phones which is totally understandable since other people were there. The venue was amazing and offered a relaxing and comfortable environment. Sunday was International Women's Day and Rafa Sauna Lounge was having a women's event. This was a perfect opportunity to check it out. It was also a plus that there were little added bonuses for the day. Pink drink, mouse cake and a face mask. Location was interesting, not so luxe. But I love the serenity of the interior. Walking in was very calm and spa-like with simplicity decor and essential oils in the air. I thought it would be bigger but the intimate size was good for the day. Very luxe bathroom and locker area with spa-like products for customers to use. My mom was my guest because she loves saunas and detoxing, like me. We planned our time for each sauna because your allotted 2hrs for your entire spa experience. We were given very cushy slippers, a robe, a towel, and a wrist band to use on their monitor for additional menu items. (ie: hot tea, pressed juice, or smoothies.) I loved all the saunas: dry sauna, vapor sauna, steam and artic chamber. The Still Room was also awesome. Just enough quiet and darkness, that I almost fell asleep completely. Staff was super helpful and patient. Very sweet young ladies and gentleman who were able to answer all our questions. They promptly served us our pink drink and mouse cake when we were ready to order. Our time there was great. I came here for a birthday party, and let me just say it was a great time! They have a list of recommended steps to follow for all of the wellness areas. I followed it for the most part... lol, once I actually noticed it. I started off in the wellness spa area (I believe that's what it's called) next to the cold plunge. Visited Rafa Sauna Lounge on their very first day of opening with a friend and wanted to share an honest, fair review. Aesthetically, the space is very beautiful. The attention to detail in the design is clear and thoughtfully done. Visually, it absolutely delivers. That said, the overall experience felt less luxurious than expected. Upon arrival, the check-in area was quite crowded and took about 10 minutes. I came with a friend, and there was some confusion during check-in. I was accidentally asked to fill out and sign her safety waiver. Even after pointing this out, no corrections were made, which felt concerning. We were given robes, sandals, and electronic wristbands, but there wasn't much guidance on what to do next. The groups ahead of us also didn't receive much instruction. When I asked if there was a guide, pamphlet, or brief explanation of what to expect, I was told they were still working out the details and that we should just explore. A short tour or simple brochure would have helped, especially for first-time guests. The women's locker room had plenty of lockers, which I appreciated, and I liked that the keys were worn on your wrist. However, the dressing area itself was quite small for the number of people in our time block. The decor was minimal but still very nice. There were a few showers and two restroom stalls. Once changed, we entered the spa area. There is a cold shower and two small soaking tubs, one herbal and one Arctic. These tubs were very small, above ground, and didn't seem to have much circulation. The herbal tub had a foamy film on top, which felt unsettling. There are also no stairs or handrails to help with entry or exit, so we decided not to use them. We explored the two sauna rooms. The larger sauna was spacious and included a chess table, which was a cool and unique touch. The smaller sauna had a button for a "herbal experience," but when pressed, it seemed to only release steam with no noticeable aroma. After about 30 minutes, the main area between the tubs and saunas became very wet, and we even saw a staff member slip and almost fall. While the floor is textured, there were no mats, which could become a safety issue. We took a break and sat in the lounge area where complimentary citrus water was available. A team member kindly offered us a free fruit smoothie, which we appreciated. About 20 minutes later, she brought them out. They were just okay, but it was still a nice gesture, especially on opening day. While sitting in the lounge, we noticed electrical outlets placed at the bottom of the seating blocks where your legs rest. Considering guests are often wet, this felt potentially unsafe. There is also a stillness room with large lounging beds in very dim lighting. The room itself was relaxing, but we could still hear noise from other areas of the spa. Some added soundproofing would really elevate that experience. There is also a Japanese tea room with floor seating, which was a very cool concept. However, we later discovered through the wristband screen that the tea service and other drink options are an additional fee and not included with the spa package. That is something to be aware of before your visit. After about an hour into our two-hour session, we decided to head back to the women's locker room. By that time, the second wave of guests had arrived and the locker room was very full, so we had to wait a bit to access the changing area. It was only at this point, while changing and speaking with other guests, that we learned the showers were not working properly. The water was cold with very low pressure, making rinsing off difficult. This information was not shared with us earlier. Overall, the facility is beautiful, but for me, some of the luxury spa details were a miss. I did share my experience and concerns with the staff upon leaving, though they did not seem very receptive in the moment. I understand this was their first day, and I truly hope they take guest feedback into account as they continue to refine the experience. This place was fantastic. First of all, every room was absolutely beautiful, from the materials they chose to the lighting. I felt transported into an oasis and it really helped me disconnect from the outside world. The atmosphere was so relaxing and luxurious. They provide you with a robe, towel, and slippers (cloud slides). They have a suggested order on a wall, which was nice to give us some direction. The options were a nice variety and we felt very relaxed and renewed by the end. The people working there were nice and accommodating. Everything felt very clean. It did get a little crowded feeling in the main area (with the showers and baths for in between your sauna sessions), but never felt crowded in the sauna rooms. The slippers they give are crazy squeaky, and I wonder if there is a better sandal that isn't rubber they could provide. We also would have loved some kind of yoga room to stretch in. I visited Rafa on their opening day, while the facility is beautiful I'm not sure I would go back. I wasn't a big fan of their herbal soak bath and cold plunge, they are small and it didn't seem sanitary. The water did not look clean and other guests mentioned regretting getting in. I did enjoy one of the saunas however the sauna alone wasn't enough for me to see the value. A welcome addition to the Sacramento community for rest and relaxation! I recently visited this new sauna and wellness lounge and it really helped me reset and recharge. You will note that there are no photos to accompany this review because phones should be put away when visiting an oasis like this one. It's meant for rest and relaxation. I was concerned that this incredibly aesthetic looking sauna would mean all the energy and effort was dumped into the appearance and not the substance of what make a sauna appealing but I'm pleased to write that this assumption was rebutted when I had a chance to experience the dry sauna and glacier bath. It was an energizing and relaxing experience. I enjoyed my time oscillating between the hot and cold options and everything looked very well maintained (even if they have only been open for a short time). The check in process is easy and the staff are helpful. They even helped me with my bracelet. It was a welcoming atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning so I can give the stillness lounge a chance but I'll definitely be back for another plunge in the glacier bath. read more

We came on a Sunday evening as a group of 5. The experience was serene and calm- which we appreciated. We ordered juices and smoothies and they came out very fast. Staff was receptive to our suggestions - a rug/mat in the locker room since the floor was wet, additional towels for drying off after we were done, and also having bags for wet clothes (they were at the reception office and not in the locker room) It was a little pricey and we were charged for staying in the bathroom to get ready after our 2 hour reservation (we thought it was two hours of sauna time- our bad) but we enjoyed the experience. This lounge is not located in a popular or upscale plaza but rather in an ordinary shopping center. Based on other customer reviews, the facility is not as luxurious as it appears and can become quite crowded. Since this is a co-ed lounge, I requested a tour of the facility before purchasing a session. My request was refused, and I was told to watch an online video instead. That was disappointing. Many spas--including five-star spa facilities in Las Vegas--typically allow prospective customers to tour the facility before booking a service. Seeing the space in person helps customers make an informed decision, especially for a co-ed environment. RAFA Sauna Lounge is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing sauna experience in the Sacramento area. As the name states, this is a sauna lounge -- NOT a bathhouse. This is a co-ed facility that requires bathing suits. They provide you with a robe, towel, sandals, and a wet bag. CHECK-IN: I came today with my mom and aunt for their upcoming birthdays, and overall we had a nice time not knowing what to expect for our first visit. We had an appointment at opening, 4 PM, for 3 people (2 hours). The check-in was slightly confusing as there was a huge group of 11 checking in before us at the same time. I hated the women's locker/dressing room area - really bad flow. The dressing room was tiny because with just two groups, there were already 14 of us, and more groups were waiting to be checked in coming in behind us. The atmosphere wasn't luxury or spa like, It was packed like a sardine can and chaotic. We were all trying to use the 2 bathrooms to change, put our things away, shower -- everything. The wait was so long my aunt actually changed in the shower instead. It took about 25 minutes for us to just to change. My recommendation would be to book after 4, not the 4pm slot. FEATURES: Once we were finally able to shower and enter the lounge area, we were greeted with two showers, a cold "bucket" shower head, two individual cold plunges, a small herbal bath (4-person capacity), one large sauna, one medium-sized vapor sauna, a large steam room, an Arctic room, and some relaxation areas. I was really impressed with the saunas and steam room. I loved that the steam room had a constant flow of steam that was so strong that at first I couldn't even see that there is a shower inside the steam room to cool off without getting hot! This was a great feature and highly appreciated. The vapor sauna was my favorite. This sauna has a little tap that dribbles water onto the rocks to create steam. I threw a cup of water on the rocks and it was awesome!! The large sauna with the chess table was cute. I enjoyed the size of it and the ability to sit right next to the rocks. Regular hot sauna but very large so you can lay out. If you're a true sauna head -- this one is still not authentic in that the rocks are not under your feet, but it's okay because no sauna in the Sacramento area seems to be able to get it right. The cold plunges were small but definitely do the job. We enjoyed ending our session in the lounge room with daybeds, their smoothies, and BYO face masks. Very nice. The bathroom has nice hair products and soaps that did not cause any allergic reactions. CALL-OUTS: The small herbal bath and cold plunges lack a step to enter. Hand bars have been installed for you to pull yourself in and out of the tubs, but since the tubs are above ground, they are somewhat tall. I could see these being very dangerous because of the wet and slick marble surrounding the tubs. The small herbal bath is not very warm at all -- very tepid. There is a pot filler above the bath, but the worker said it only dispenses cold tap water. Lame. I thought the Arctic room was hilarious because it's just a tiny room with an AC unit blasting cold air -- not an actual Arctic room. The Costco walk in fridge is colder CHECK-OUT: Check-out was interesting because they tried to say my mom's visit was extended an additional 23 minutes, but this was not the case because we all arrived at the same time and I actually checked in before my mom. How did she go over but I didn't? The front desk girl waived the additional time fee but was sure to mention for us to be more aware next time because they will enforce it in the future. I had to laugh at that, as if you remember earlier in the review, I said that it took forever for us to even get changed in the dressing room due to overcapacity in the women's locker room. TLDR: If you're purely a sauna/steam lover, definitely come here. If you love tubs, don't bother. 1 star deducted because of the unorganized check in and I hate the women's locker room set up. We went on 2/2 for the first time and had a really great time. Staff was so kind and helpful. The amenities go above and beyond what I've had at similar spaces so it was great to have such a variety. The herbal bath and arctic room were my favorite by far. The feedback i would offer to elevate this experience is so implement a STRICT volume policy AND have signs that reflect the same everywhere. It's one thing to have it listed in a waiver that we all sign but it's another to set the tone and expectation about that type of experience. Please please put up signs that indicate that this is a quiet space because if I'm going to relax, I cannot do that with people yapping away like they're at brunch. I'm not above going to management to ask that folks keep their conversations to a minimum, but if there are not signs that also reflect that how are people supposed to know how to act. I had never been to a sauna lounge before and this was the first of many visits to Rafa. Things to note-it's clean, ascetically pleasing, temperature is perfect, service is great and the saunas and plunges were incredible! It was like time stood still for those 2 hours as I reset my mind, my body and my spirit. I bonded with my husband and my 2 adult daughters over the mental discipline it takes to sit in a glacier plunge. I meditated in every sauna and the silent room. Having the suggested order and time of activities on the wall was extremely helpful. I had the opportunity to meet the owner Dave and he let me know they will be adding times for guests and that was the only suggestion I had to make it better. We spent two incredible hours here for my daughter's 23rd birthday. RAFA Sauna Lounge did not disappoint. The entire experience was so relaxing and the lounge is very peaceful. We loved the simple and natural aesthetic. I will definitely be returning soon. Only issue was a man took my towel off of a hook outside of the steam room. It would nice to have a way to keep that from happening. Or possibly be able to get a fresh towel for the shower in the women's lounge. Overall, this was an incredible experience. The wet sauna is beautiful -- soft, moody lighting and a textured stone arch that makes the whole room feel like a little temple; we brought our own hot sauna hats and they were lifesavers for keeping our ears warm while we sweated. The Ice Room/Cold Plunge was surprisingly luxe and properly cold -- it gave me serious Iceland vibes without the terrifying ocean, crisp and invigorating and exactly what you want after a long sauna session. Facilities are spotless, towels and benches are well cared-for, and the layout makes it easy to move between heat and cold without feeling crowded. Staff were friendly and gave quick, clear instructions on timing (1-3 minutes in the cold plunge felt right). Pricing felt fair for Sacramento -- the 2-hour pass is roomy enough to enjoy both the sauna and the cold room without rushing. Decided to go here with a friend as it's right in my backyard! Apparently they just opened a month ago and I was driving by all the time thinking it was a jewelry store or bank! Lol! Anyhow, my friend made the reservation and with surcharges, it comes out to about $68. I feel like it's a nice special occasion experience. They had a variety of lounges, including a cedar lounge, arctic lounge, and steam and vapor rooms. Like some of the other reviewers had mentioned, the sauna didn't have the most pleasant smell, kinda smelled like feet. I also felt like the herbal soak was lukewarm, and it would be nicer to have a hot bath. They also had areas for cold plunges and bucket challenges. They were thorough when we arrived, explaining how everything worked. They had a relaxation lounge with music. I do think though that for the price, tea should be included for the Japanese tea room portion of the stay. It is an extra $9. My friend also told me about Asha, which is cheaper, but doesn't look nearly as upscale. I'll have to come back and report on the comparison as for the monetary value between the two. The big upside is that this is close to home. Also, no phones allowed! We did see someone disobeying this rule in the herbal soak, so hopefully a staff member told them something. read more

I went last night on 1/17/26. I booked really early in the morning maybe around 4 or 5 AM and the pricing had went up by $20. So it was $65 plus tax so it came out to $70. I knew that was way overpriced, but I wanted to give this place a try. My first impression of the area was not so good. It's in the parking lot with a 7-11 and the area just seems sketchy. Upon arrival, I was greeted by someone at the desk and I really liked the decor. They do have a very nice presentation. I was given an electronic wristband, a towel, slippers, and a thick terry cloth soft robe, which was a nice touch. The dressing room is very small. There were about three of us in there and I felt cramped. There is a small bench, but the other guests had all their stuff on there and there wasn't really anywhere to sit. I did not enjoy the dressing room experience because it felt so cramped. When I went into the main area where the sauna, steam room and baths are located, I was very disappointed. There was a kid swimming around, flapping around and splashing in the herbal bath. That is the place that I wanted to use the most because I wanted to enjoy the warm water. But instead, there was a parent enjoying the facilities while allowing their kid to take over the herbal bath area. There were no other adults getting in because the kid had taken over that area. I didn't realize kids were allowed. The first thing I heard when I walked in was a kids voice, and I was instantly annoyed. The sauna and steam rooms were nice. Very spacious, but there were groups of people hanging out being very loud. It was not a relaxing experience at all. Then I attempted to go into the Arctic chamber, but it was not working. One of the employees said it had not been working for several hours. This was not relayed to me upon check in. Employee suggested that I use the cold plunge, but I was not interested in doing that. Overall, I didn't have the best experience. I left about 30 minutes early and spent the majority of my time sitting in the lounge area drinking my smoothie. The smoothie was just OK. The spa recovery lounge was in a separate room away from everything else, but it just felt weird to go into a dark room. As a woman I was going to leave if a man showed up because it just felt too secluded. I've gone to spas before and usually the relaxation areas more centralized. Overall, I did not get the relaxing experience that I had hoped for. The noise level was too high, and I did not like the fact that there was a kid there. Also, a gentleman either misplaced his phone or it was stolen. I am not sure, but there are hooks on the outside of the sauna and steam rooms where people can hang their robes. Him and his family repeatedly went around, checking the pockets of all the robes. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I was sitting in the lounge area, drinking my mango watching them go through people's pockets. It just felt so off and I left shortly after that. I understand someone losing their phone and thinking that someone stole it but it's inappropriate for him to be going around checking pockets. Very natural modern look when you go inside the wet room/sauna area & very clean looking. I booked deep tissue massage for me & more relaxing massage for my mom. It was great! Almost tempted to rate it poorly and tell everyone not to go because it's such a great spot. Went during the soft opening, and with that in mind there are clearly a few tweaks they are working out. It was peaceful, clean, staff was lovely (Avalina at the front desk was so helpful) and I had a wonderful time. The only issue is some people clearly don't have sauna or spa etiquette, but what can you do. People will be people. Overall, such a pleasant experience! So good!!! Went with two girlfriends and had a blast, we will definitely be back soon. The amenities were amazing and we were so relaxed and pampered. Such a beautiful space and kind staff. I really appreciate that they have a list on one wall of a recommended order to enjoy the amenities. If I'm being picky, I do wish there was a hot tub but that's just me! One thing to consider is that if you're going here for a gals night or a date night, it's not going to be a place to chat. To be honest, we didn't realize this at first and were (politely) asked to lower our volume, but we do wish there were signs out so that it was more clear. We also were amongst other groups that were politely asked to lower their volume, so we weren't the only ones who were expecting to be able to chat. This is the real deal if you're looking for a proper wellness escape without having to drive to Napa or the Bay Area! From the second you walk in, the vibe is luxury - clean, modern, dimly lit in the right ways, with the perfect calm energy. The wet sauna, steam room, and glacier plunge are my favorites!! It was fine. There was lots of hair in the cold soak so we didn't get to enjoy it. There is an herbal sauna, but smelled like feet. The steam room doesn't smell pleasant either; I'd prefer a stronger eucalyptus scent but nothing. read more

Rafa Sauna Lounge exceeded my expectations! It was a wonderful and relaxing 2 hours. Having only bathhouses to compare this to, the idea is the same (hot sauna, cold plunge, cool soak) yet the difference is the sauna/steam room is the star of the show at Rafa. There are 2 saunas & 1 steam room to choose from and 1 of that saunas is blissfully hot. The Arctic Chamber is so unique and feels wonderful immediately following a hot sauna. I booked a birthday surprise for my best friend & I on the 21st and the experience was sooo nice! We loved the different sauna rooms & herbal soak bath. The cold plunge was definitely hard to tolerate lol but well worth trying out. The greens juice was yummy as well! If I could give any bit of advice though, it would be that the locker room changing area is extremely small. Only 2-3 women can comfortably fit in the space to change & if you're modest like me then there are also 2 small restrooms you can utilize to change. The downfall was that we had 15min after our session time ended to get showered & changed which was very hard to accomplish when people were coming in back to back trying to change into their swimsuits for the beginning of their session while I'm dripping wet trying to gain access into my locker to change and leave. I feel as though something might need to be changed to achieve a smoother enter/exit process for appointment times. Another changing area perhaps for those coming in and those leaving. Also, having staff readily available to answer questions inside the spa would have been nice as well. Overall, our experience was really relaxing & much needed. Will we be back? Most definitely. Just hopefully for a few tweaks as suggested. Another suggestion.... open a location in Elk Grove I think it would do very well. read more
