The food is always amazing at Raffis place. I'm Armenian and my dad makes the best bbq, but when dad is unavailable or the weather does not allow for kebabs to be made on the grill outside, Raffis is the place to go. My favorite is the filet mignon barg. The only negative is the overflow of rice that comes with each dish. Just way to much. but other than that, food is always flavorful and delicious. When I ate here a few times ten years ago, it was excellent, and yesterday it was just as excellent. They are so consistent! It is the best of the best. I ordered a large order for pickup, which was ready exactly when they told me it would be, and the food was hot and deliciously prepared and presented. I served the food at a gathering, and my guests all had seconds. We were sad when we got full because it was so yummy that we just wanted to keep eating! Make sure you order a few hours beforehand for pickup orders because they are very, very busy and seem to have a solid system in place to ensure they deliver an exquisite meal that's hot and ready when you come to pick it up. Very neat and well presented restaurant! My girl brought me here and the food was amazing. We started off with a side of hummus and shirazi salad. Both were excellent! The lavash that came with it was awesome. I ordered a rack of lamb and she had the chicken koobideh plate. Food was so flavorful! The rice was buttery and delicious. The food: Hot tea - not a tea connoisseur, I could have sworn it was of the lipton variety Complimentary flatbread and fresh vegetable spread, including mint, radish, and sweet raw onions (not spicy!) Savory hummus and roasted eggplant spread - this goes very well with the ubiquitous flatbread Various basmati rice offerings - the "plain" was cooked with saffron and a hint of butter. The green rice Was supposedly cooked with cilantro, but it seemed like dill and Lima bean to me. The cranberry rice was a bit too weird for us. Delicious, savory, juicy kebabs - we ordered a mix of fillet mignon, chicken, minced chicken, minced beef kebabs. These were expertly grilled, and served with grilled tomatoes and peppers. Somewhat surprisingly, it was served draped in flatbread. However, this was an excellent choice, as all the juices from the kebabs soaked into the flatbread. We all ordered different dishes. The plates were HUGE. One plate could easily feed 2-3 people. If you are used to Afghan & Pakistani spices and flavors this may not satisfy your spice addiction. Summary: hands down the best kabob house on planet earth! History: I've been coming to Raffi's since I was a little boy... the shop was literally the size of a closet when I first started coming here...I don't know how many years later, Raffi's has grown into a significant sized restaurant but somehow maintained the quality of its food! Their menu also has a lot more options that it didn't have back in the days (e.g. tadiq (crispy rice) with stew, Persian eggplant dish, etc.) Food: it's all good. My favorites as of right now are absolutely the beef koobideh (its literally the best koobideh I've had outside my dads cooking), beef barg (tender filet that waters in your mouth), and any of the stews with crispy rice aka tadiq Ambiance: I always sit in the outdoor area (somewhat enclosed but somewhat not enclosed)... lots of fans for hot days and lots of heat lamps for cold days. It's pleasant.... the restaurant also draws a really diverse crowd of people (in every category!)....TIP: draws large crowds at times... expect long waits during prime time hours!!!!! Try to go during "off peak-ish" hours (today I went around 1:30 for lunch and there was no wait).... Parking: Glendale always has parking. There are parking garages nearby (free for 90 minutes or something), street parking, and Raffi's valet (I think this is a free option...)... parking has never been an issue... Service: servers/staff pretty much have the system down... there are still some of the same servers from back in the days... crazy... Conclusion: just go... I just named some of my favorite dishes but everything is fabulous! You won't be disappointed ... Eating at Raffi's once a month is a great treat. I haven't had better Persian rice anywhere in LA or in my travels in the US. The rice here is simply, the best. It is perfectly fluffy, with specks of saffron rice to add flavor contrast and is addicting. The Kabobs and meats marinated well, are expertly grilled, moist and juicy when they come to your table. The Luleh Kabob (ground beef with spices with a hint of lemon) is my favorite, the Chicken Barg next. So you can get a combo and they come with the most perfect rice, grilled tomatoes and grilled pepper. Top your food off with Sumac (mild spice, look for it) and happy eating! The meal comes with Lavash with my favorite butter ever, Darigold, herbs, onion, radish, spearmint. For appetizers, the Garlic Tourshi is out of this world and goes really well with the meal. The eggplant and yoghurt dish is very nice. When you return, I suggest trying their rice dishes: Albalo Polo (rice with black cherries, yummy), Bahgali Polo (rice with dill & lima beans, addicting) etc, they're all very tasty and well made. You can also upgrade to these rice dishes for extra Finally, a Turkish coffee (you can get your grounds read, LOL) and the best baklava (with rose water) this side of town, caps our dinner here. The baklava is thin, moist with honey with a hint of rose water---- it rocks the Yummytummy meter! The service here is very attentive, as the waiters have been here for years. Its a great treat dining here, from the herbs and lavash, appetizers to abundant and well made platters of food, to the happy laughing patrons. It's a fun eating establishment. Raffi's place is a more upscale Mediterranean restaurant. I've been to Raffi's twice and the food has been consistently phenomenal every time. I had a party of 30 and service was fantastic. The lamb, chicken, beef, salads, rice, hummus, cheese, and pita bread were out of this world. Their sorbets, chocolate cake, and rose vanilla ice cream sandwiches were decadent. They offer valet parking but you can also park in Glendale's public garage. The food is beautifully presented but most importantly the food is delicious. This place was recommended by another foodie friend. I am happy to have finally come out to the area to try it. The seating was in a sort of alleyway-turned-patio with heaters for the Los Angeles "winter" temperature. We got there right as they opened and the place was relatively empty. Within a half hour, it was a complete 180 and there was a line out the door. The service was wonderful. The staff is very attentive. I tried the gormehsabzi. It was delicious. We were a party of 4, this weekend on January 13 which was Saturday we waited 30 minutes to get a table around 2:30 which is normal for this place and we didn't mind the wait, we ordered a family style dinner for 4 , consist of 4 skewers of Koobideh ,2 skewers of Barg, 2 skewers of Shish kebab, and rice and grilled tomatoes and peppers. According to the menu the meat in their kebobs supposed to be fillet of beef, which aside from shish kebab, the rest the meal was a disaster, and need to say that I am a retired professional culinary trained individual with 55 years of experience and I know my meat and their Barg was not Fillet, it was made of a cheap cut of meat full of grizzle and very difficult to cut by knife let alone chewing it, all of my guests also were surprised and couldn't finish their meal and just ate some Koobideh and shish kebabs. I believe Raffi's has stablished a Persian restaurant throughout the years by providing a consistent product which I couldn't see it in last couple of times I have been there. I am not recommending this place to my friends anymore and will look for another place. Almost all of the patrons come here for the food and the rest is not even being considered being so busy and load. beef in fact it was made of very inexpensive cut of meat it was tough and full of grizzle that could not be cut with a knife let alone chewing it. The flavor and spices that they used were unusual and they had tried to tenderize the tough meat unsuccessfully which resulted in changes in flavor definitely not Persian flavors. I personally love the cranberry rice, but it's sooo hard to find. Every place I've gone to in LA doesn't have it or they have a alternative type of "berry" rice. Raffi's had a black cherry rice which was too sweet for me so I wasn't the biggest fan. The price was also too high for me.
