Went in for an oil change and safety check for my Tacoma. He calls to say my front brakes need to be changed and sends pictures of the brakes. I didn't know a lot about disc brakes and was busy so I said yes, change the brake pads. Later I read up on disc brakes. While they had worn almost to where the wear indicator (squealer) was touching the rotor, there was still a good .2 inch left, which is at least 15-20k miles. When the pads wear down to the squealer, it's only time to start thinking about changing your brakes. Turns out you there's still plenty of brake left (until the bottom of that 'u' groove in the middle of the pad). I would give 2 stars because the brakes were halfway worn and the price to replace was on-par, but he straight up lied to me, saying it "needs to be done today" and the brake pads were at "2%". Total bs. $200 for something that could have waited a year and a half. Dishonest. read more

10/10 If your going to read reviews about a car shop ignore the typical idiots who are clueless about cars, buy a vehicle without an independent inspection, and then blame the seller for their ignorance. Both Rafi and Mike are great people, won't pressure you, and like any good shop prefer you get a second opinion. I'd even consider Mike a friend at this point. They've been in the industry for a long time, are reputable, only buy cars they truly believe are worthwhile. Mike spent the better part of 4hrs closing a deal with me on a car they made well under $2k on. Being someone who's well versed in cars, I can't tell you how preferable it is to buy a car from a small mechanic who has a partnership with a good sales manager, instead of a car lot. Rafi truly does deserve 5/5 stars because he is one of the nicest and most generous individuals I have ever met. Although I have never had my car serviced by rafi, I did meet get the privilege to meet him one day when i got a flat tire outside his shop on colfax. He let me use his air compressor and helped me change my tire and literally saved me so much time money stress etc. and he did it all for free because he's a great human being and the very kind of person i would trust to take my car for repair or inspection. EDIT: Unfortunately this review I started to write is several years old... somehow without realizing it- I didn't submit this review when I should have. and now it's like literally 5 -7 or more YEARS later. I was going thru my yelp reviews and noticed I had a couple drafts saved. So I clicked on the tab and saw this review I had written -which was everything before the "EDIT". I can't believe it's still saved in my drafts..but I'm dissapointed in myself cuz this good review was very well deserved and I was so thankful that day when Rafi helped me. he's was such a good guy to a random person who wasn't even a customer and it meant alot. This was some of the most honest, thoughtful, and affordable service I have ever had. My battery, which was only about six months old, died unexpectedly. I could jump start it, but it seemed that it would not hold a charge. I went to a nearby location of the chain from which I had purchased it. They tested it and found nothing wrong with it and sent me to the original location from which I had made the battery purchase. They also tested it, taking the time to do a thorough job, and said there was nothing wrong with the battery. I asked a friend if he had any thoughts on what might be causing the problem, and he thought that might be a electrical parasite from something in my vehicle, causing the drain. The store from which I had purchased my battery referred me to Rafi's, since it was just a couple blocks away. He was able to take a look at my vehicle fairly quickly. In my opinion, he did a very thorough analysis, and then walked me through exactly what he had discovered. He could've told me I needed a new battery, he could've told me I needed a new alternator, he could've told me I needed to starter, and he could've overcharged me in so many ways. Instead, he diagnosed that my older car stereo was causing a drain on the battery, and if I didn't drive the truck for a few days in a row, it was going to keep killing the battery, and it would take quite a while to charge back up. Considering how much time he took to do this, and everything else involved, I thought the price that I was charged was extremely reasonable. And, he went above and beyond when he contacted the seller of my battery, and convinced them to replace it with a new one. I would not hesitate to send one of my friends to this business with any auto problems. read more

Unfortunately I had to return to Rafi's after my visit in October. The downside to owning an '05 truck with 130k miles is that it's going to need repairs. The upside to knowing a mechanic you can trust, like Rafi, is that you don't worry about getting your face ripped off. My engine was rattling and the check engine light was on. Dropped it off and explained the issue to Rafi. I don't even bother asking for a quote. I know that only the necessary work will get done at a reasonable price. Turned out whichever shop I used years ago before discovering Rafi's put cheap spark plugs in rather than OEMs. Picked it up a day or two later. Well worth the $12 Uber ride from downtown to W Colfax. read more

Everyone has the same perspective in regards to Mechanics and car sales man, they are all "thieves and dis-honest" its a good thing he's neither. He's just a nice guy on the block who knows how to work on all types of vehicles, he's not another Mechniac in town. Had my Audi A6 fixed many times, including timing belt and cover gaskets at very reasonable price.
