Discovered this by getting on the wrong bus and needing a location to set for my rideshare. I picked this one based on where it was from me on maps and the name. Nice, helpful staff. Good selection for the space. Pretty fast, and food was good.

Talk about your neighborhood sandwich shop! I had just grabbed some snacks from Magnolia Mini Mart https://www.yelp.com/biz/magnolia-mini-mart-oakland?hrid=GszifKbPeE2QJ5wNUX_uMA&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) and was originally heading over to Twins Halal https://www.yelp.com/biz/twins-halal-house-and-bakery-oakland?hrid=6OZo9mRqjeVa0tB1FDxUtg&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) when at the corner of 26th and Magnolia I was shocked to see a sandwich shop. I love a good sammich, so figured I'd stop in. I immediately got vibes from Prospect Park Sandwiches https://www.yelp.com/biz/prospect-park-sandwiches-oakland?hrid=KNklnB9KOVsS8Wp2tzWFZg&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) - hole in the wall, locals only spot run by a Korean family, super friendly, offering breakfast, sandwiches, and teriyaki plates. Seriously, this is the West Oakland version of Prospect Park. You enter into what used to be the dining room - a fridge case to your left, the coffee station and what used to have a table to the right, and in front the menu, register, and kitchen. The nice man taking orders greeted me warmly and asked if I wanted to see a paper menu, but there is a huge menu above the register. The menu offers a mix of breakfast and lunch items. Breakfast including specials (combos), omelettes, sandwiches, and even side orders. The lunch option lists deli sandwiches, burgers, cheesesteaks, chicken teriyaki, and salads. While I love a good cheesesteak and chicken teriyaki sandwich, as this was my first time, I figured I'd get something classic. Went with the Turkey & Ham, on a sweet roll, with the veggies and mayo. It was a solid sandwich! What I didn't know is I could have gotten a side of fries, and based on the pictures, they look to be perfectly golden steak fries, which are the best kind of fry. That said, I did get a free bag of goldfish and some hershey kisses, which was a really nice treat. I wouldn't say this is worth going out of the way for just yet, but if you're in the neighborhood, this is a must visit spot. And as I am trying to frequent Magnolia Mini Mart more often, I think this will become my go to follow up spot (though do need to support Twins as well).

Just solid, can't go wrong at Railroad. It's a little small hole in the wall with VERY limited seating both indoors and outdoors. As soon as you walk in, it reminds you of eating in the Deep South. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you happen to be in the area stop on by. The food is amazing! Love the burgers, love the club sandwich, love the breakfast sandwiches etc. They also have the crispiest steak fries! Not too mention, they always give you a piece of candy & fruit w/ your meal. Please note this spot is only open for breakfast and lunch, M-F and is NOT wheelchair accessible.

An extremely satisfying, no-frills, unpretentious sandwich shop. Admittedly, the location isn't the best or most easily accessible. But I literally have no complaints about the quality of their sandwiches. Delicious stuff.

Intersection of 36th & Magnolia Pre crossing guard era Maybe it was even for horse riders to stop?

Casual breakfast and lunch place that serves up the basics. Order the spaghetti, it's enough for two meals. Friendly folks and easy parking. Legit french toast or omelets. They are literally on a really old railroad track that had a four way stop back in the day. Sign is about to fall. It looks like from the 1930's?

I can't believe I didn't know about this place till the other day. I love supporting local businesses. Especially ones who have been around for a long time. The spot has a dated charm that I miss. There's not a lot of places like this left in the town and it makes me sad. On to the food. The sandwich was good, i was pleased with the ingredients and I didn't get a crazy hangover after eating the sandwich (I just ate too much food). They have a lot of good options for sandwiches. I decided on getting the turkey sub with added bacon. They also give you some candy treats with your order! They really took me back with their selection of candies. The clerk and staff are friendly, as are the patrons attending this spot. I hope this place is here for years to come. We need to continue to support places like this! I'll definately be back *edited some info

Stopped here on a Monday morning to grab my husband some breakfast and this place was the perfect start to my week. Not only, is the food delicious with vegetarian options, the guy working the counter is always super nice. I got the grit special with a veggie patty and hubby got a breakfast burrito with turkey sausage. If you don't know anything about trying to find a quick non pork breakfast spot then let me tell you the struggle is REAL! Well look no further, if you have a second and it's not out the way then I suggest you stop by and grab a bite. Plenty of turkey options and they make delicious grits. Haven't stopped by for lunch yet but I'm sure they probably wouldn't disappoint!!

Doesn't look like much when you pull up, definitely a hole in the wall. But one of the best sandwiches we've ever had. My husband and I split a Turkey club and wished we would have gotten our own. Also, a nice surprise of a little bag of Swedish Fish (my favorite) and a Cutie (fruit). They also have breakfast too, we may have to swing by on our way out of town. The people working there were very nice and accommodating. Don't let the neighbor discourage you from going. Would definitely go again and recommend it to my friends.

I absolutely love this little hole in the wall deli. The food is fresh and everything in the menu is delicious. The service is always friendly and I love the complimentary mandarin oranges that come with a gourmet sandwich. It's a little small inside, so order for pickup if you can. If you can't, don't worry, service is quick.

I'm forever grateful for that recommendation because they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried a few items on the menu, but the one I always recommend is the Hot Italian. Everything about this sandwich is incredible. It's packed with flavor, and you can honestly tell it was made with care. I usually pair it with a bag of chips, and the total comes to around $18. It's absolutely worth every penny and always leaves me full and satisfied. The shop is consistently clean, and the customer service is always friendly and welcoming. I find myself going back over and over again, then telling myself I need to take a break--only to end up back there a few weeks later. That's how good it is. A couple of things to keep in mind before you visit: there's only limited street parking, so you may have to circle the block to find a spot. There's also not much room to wait inside, although they do have a bench or two where you can sit while your sandwich is being prepared. In my experience, the wait is usually around 15 minutes. I've honestly never been here when it wasn't busy, so expect a crowd. But once you take that first bite, you'll understand why. Great food, great atmosphere, and great customer service. I highly recommend checking this place out!

The deli is a nice size with a couple of benches to sit and wait for your food. You can look at the menu and order, plus grab a drink or chips. They have a nice variety of items to grab that go well with your sandwich. The service was friendly and quick. Workers were all kind, and we love that it's dog-friendly! Regarding the sandwiches, you can get a hot or cold sandwich. You can also build your own! Companion got the Hot Boy, and I went the Build Your Own route. The sandwiches are hefty, with lots of great meats and fillings, and for the price, very decent! I wish my bread were a bit more toasted and crunchier, but that's my preference. It hit the spot, and I'd be open to trying their other sandwiches. I don't often go to delis, but Brothers Deli was a nice place to try. We enjoyed it by the waterfront, which makes it a great picnic option. Find them off Park Blvd., with street and residential parking around.

I love that they use traditional cuts for the sisig. A generous portion of meltingly soft gelatinous pig's head (jowl, ears, snout, etc.) is loaded into a bubbly, crackly baguette-bolillo hybrid. The rich, seasoned pig drippings and runny egg yolk soak into the bread without turning it soggy, while the savory soy seasoning, creamy mayo, and mild kick from the chilies make every bite more delicious. We could only finish half but the leftovers held up really well and can easily be revived in the air fryer. They provide a small wedge of lime but I like a lot more acidity to cut through the richness. The crisp lettuce, cucumber, and mayo adds a refreshing contrast, helping mellow out the heat while keeping each bite balanced. Make sure to have plenty of napkins on deck! * House Ramen Spiced Fries ($8) As a kid...who used to crush a bag of ramen, sprinkle the msg laced seasoning packet all over, and ate it as snack? Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

I'm sure there are other good things here but I keep just getting the cheese steak. The picture…read moredoesn't do it justice. It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

Glad we were able to track them down cause their sandwiches look so basic in pics but are so darn good. The market is cool too but I'm always gonna start by bee lining it to the deli in back of the shop to order one of their daily sandwiches. They make 3 flavors each day. 18$ a pop. Delicious.
