Rain or defy salon is very pricey, much more than the surrounding salons. But don't assume this insures a positive experience. I got an appointment promptly which was great. But, the stylist was abrupt and then down right rude and resentful of my wish to have my hair cut on the side part, among other things. . She got inappropriately angry and defensive and never fully complied with my wishes. She was rude, and it was a horrible experience. I called the owner. She was just as defensive! "We have never had a complaint about our salon!" Unfortunately this is not the case. I would avoid this over priced, unfriendly and disrespectful establishment if you want a good haircut and a satisfied feeling when you walk out the door. read more

Julianne Ingram's tiny, fabulous day spa is among the best I've visited. Located just outside Fredericksburg, VA, the spa provides gentle, personalized attention and top-notch, hand-made organic skin products from the Hungarian Eminence line. They do hair, manicures, massage, waxing, laser hair removal, facials, and chemical peels. The prices are unbeatable - well worth the drive. Make an appointment. THE SPACE: Rain Spa is gorgeous; attention is paid to every detail. There is no overwhelming fragrance in the place. The celery and tan colors, soft lighting, and quiet atmosphere are calming. The large, stone tile floors are cool and elegant. The individual rooms are small, but quality fabrics and soft linens abound. Rain Spa is a relaxing space. It's a little oasis, located in a small strip mall. THE SERVICE: Julianne has an L.P.N. degree and has been a careful study of skin treatment regimens; skin conditions; and the laser machine. She's beautiful and has a very pleasant, kind disposition. She took ample time to answer my questions and was patient. For laser (permanent) hair removal: the machine has to be calibrated according to your skin color and type - so be very careful that a licensed, experienced person does this. Julianne has been doing lasering for more then 3 years and was booked for a long day of laser appointments. You may need 4+ sessions to permanently remove hair. Call ahead to inquire about and book services. She does hair; facials; peels; laser; massage. Not much waxing. That day, she also did a mini-facial and Jessner peel (medium-depth). She is very skilled. My friend has been visiting her for several years and is a loyal client for "all things face." She has so much confidence in Julianne that she simply hops in the chair and says, "what's next?" I was really impressed by Julianne's immediate diagnosis of my face issues and recommendations for a skin care regimen; she took time to explain the details of how a certain product combination would help. THE PRODUCTS: Eminence skin care is hand-made in Hungary from all-natural, organic plant products. The extensive line has special blends for all different skin types, including rosacea skin. Free of parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, and harsh chemicals; the moisturizers, cleansers, and serums smell wonderful and are good for your skin. Yes, it's a good distance to travel, but (1) you *really* feel like you've 'gotten away' from the hustle and bustle; and (2) Rain Spa's prices are much lower than any I have seen in DC. Plus, there's an outstanding consignment shop in Fredericksburg called Sequels. SUMMARY: I give Rain Spa my highest recommendation. I am very lucky to live close by Rain Spa in Locust grove. I was travelling a little over 45 minutes to get a massage but since Rain Spa opened I don't have to! I get a massage every quarter or change of season. It's a must to maintain your health. I have also started getting my hair done there since some of the salons in the area have jacked their prices up. Sorry my hair isn't that complicated to pay over $40 for a hair cut. Anyway every service I have tried at Rain Spa is so worth the money! Their prices are fantastic so you can afford to get more done for the same money you would spend else where! read more

I went to Rain Spa & Salon for my wedding hair and make up and had 5 other ladies getting their hair done and 2 getting their make up. It was wonderful! Everyone looked beautiful and I absolutely loved my hair and make up! Carla did my hair and Ashley did my make up and it was just as I had wanted and I looked good from pre-pictures up until I went to bed! I would highly recommend Carl and Ashley for hair and make up (and I even went to Carla for a haircut and it was great!). Also, if you book your bridal party there, they provide mimosas and a fruit and bagel tray for while you're getting ready which is a nice touch and makes for a relaxing and fun time! Disappointed in this salon. I couldn't believe I paid NYC prices in Locust Grove!!! The stylist was nice but did not communicate with me at all. There was a fair amount of dye left on my forehead after they "tried" to remove it, which I am trying to get off before I go to work tomorrow morning. It took 4 hours for my roots to be colored and highlights for my shoulder length hair. No cut and no blow dry ! Her last comment was if there is something wrong with the color, you can come back and we can fix it. That made me feel great leaving the salon! I'll save my trips to the salon for when I go back to NYC to visit family. read more

Horrible Salon!!! Misrepresented themselves, took my money and destroyed my hair!!! This Salon SUCKS. Beware!!! I called to inquire about hair straightening. I spoke to the owner Julienne Ingrams and she recommended Keratin Treatment that cost $350 and not the Amino... Donna performed the Keratin Treatment on my hair, while Melissa helped shampoo. Julienne said Keratin Treatment would straighten my hair. Well it did not. I paid $350 + $20 Tip and my hair was only straight for 2 days. I called to complain and no one returned my call. Now my hair is FALLING OFF... I am losing my hair because these people are not qualified to do that procedure nor did they have the procedure in their list of services. Yes - my mistake is I did not do more research on them. But if you are reading this comment of mine, I hope it will save you from the traumatic experience I went through with Rain & Spa Salon. read more

Overpriced, Underdelivered. That's about the best I can say for Rain Spa & Salon. My husband, whose hair is very short, went there for a haircut and some highlights. $107 later, he came home with a passable haircut (not anything special) and highlights that were barely even visible. The "stylist" didn't even blowdry his hair. I guess budget must be tight. What? They don't put product on men's hair or blowdry it any more? We just moved here and I'm looking for a salon - I can tell you, I haven't found it here. This is the second time my husband went there. The first time, they told him the charge was $125. When he basically CHOKED at that price, she charged him $100. I'm sorry, there are no "organic European" products worth that, especially when the results were so bad. They're charging Northern Virginia prices for rural service. Period. read more

What a pleasant surprise. This is a fabulous spa in Locust Grove. No more having to drive 45 minutes or more for a high-end spa/salon. Admittedly, I have only been in to have my nails done, but it is a beautiful salon with friendly personnel. I have gotten so used to poor customer service everywhere else, that I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and helpful everyone at Rain was. The salon itself is clean and nicely decorated. I also brought my daughter in for her first mani/pedi and she loved it. So glad I gave this place a try. I'll definitely be back. read more
