Huge selection of groceries, organic produce, dairy, and frozen, plus great dry goods, including numerous tough to find jams & preserves (think Swedish & Danish!). This store showed me that yes, Juneau is still part of the Pacific Northwest. It feels just like the co-op down in, say, Eugene. Nice assortment of local and other good-quality ingredients. Most importantly, they have good local bread delivered daily, and that's essential for smoked salmon consumption. read more

I needed potatoes and butter today, and when I just need 2 or 3 things I go to Rainbow Foods, near my apt. I grabbed a produce bag, and started filling it with Russet potatoes. I heard a potato hit the floor, and I thought, "I must have missed the bag." ‍ I picked it up, put it in the bag, and started selecting more. Suddenly 4 more potatoes hit the floor. Long story short, the bag had a hole in it. To their credit, not one but two employees rushed over to help. They made an embarrassing experience better. As always, well done Rainbow Foods! Came here to check out local areas and found this cute organic supermarket. As we walked in we were greeted by a lovely cashier, welcoming us to Juneau. We wanted to buy food but remembered we couldn't bring food back onto the cruise ship. If that wasn't the case, I would have definitely patronized this establishment. This is like the "Natural Pantry" of Juneau. Except it's quite a bit smaller. Still, if you're looking for unique/"natural" foods or have a funny diet: this is your spot! Produce looks pretty good for Alaska. They have a hot bar for lunch. read more

These folks are so darn nice. That, for me, is the best part of this store- the lovely people here. But they also have everything you need! It was such a pleasure to find this place and be able to stock up on snacks. They have all my favorite Whole Foods items- but there right here in Juneau! (Lesser Evil popcorn is my addiction- find it here!) They also have an excellent chocolate selection which I hope you will agree is vitally important. Go here if you are hungry in Juneau. We were just coming off a cruise ship with Very Bad Food and we wanted snacks for our cabin. Thanks goodness for this place. read more

The only place I go for food when I'm in Juneau. They have fresh produce, as well as a nice hot food bar. The hot food bar is only open on certain days and hours, so you may want to call ahead to verify that, as I've walked up there to be disappointed the hot food was not available. They also have a small area with table & chairs, if you'd like to eat your goodies there. They have a really good selection of organic and natural foods, which you can always take back to your hotel to heat up. If you're looking for organic snacks, chocolates, treats and supplements...yep they have those too! If you're vegan this will be your favorite place in Juneau--trust me! I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and selection of things they offer here, so definitely stop by; plus, staff is friendly and helpful. read more

I am totally confused about the folks who experienced rudeness. I found this place a welcome relief from the horrors of our cruise ship. I could pick up some vegan food, some kombucha and some tea. The triple shot surprise was that the groceries were cheaper than in upstate New York. In fact I liked this place very much. The young people working there are more or less college-aged. They have local, regional and national brands. They carry the good stuff. Their tourist season is long, like ours. If you need a little tribe and kombucha, there's no reason not to take the hike up the hill. Plus you can sit in the Adirondack chairs out front and chill. What's not to love?? read more

I stopped here to pick up some basic food for the week while I stayed in Juneau. There was a nice selection of everything I was looking for - oatmeal, peanut butter, produce, sandwich fixings, etc. What I liked most is that one of the workers was clearly very passionate about the store and its food, making recommendations and suggestions. Spending a little more for groceries is worth it when you know its going to a local business with nice people. read more

If you are staying in downtown juneau this is the grocery store to go to. At times, I find they are cheaper than the IGA down the road due to their frequent sales and they have a better selection. Extremely kind as well, I left a personal item by mistake and they made sure to get it back to me. I give them 5 stars for their lunch buffet! I'm an amateur health nut, but they make some really good salads and appetizers, and crazy concoctions of healthy goodness for lunch. I became a believer when I found myself enjoying a salad made of mustard greens and kale. If you're traveling to Juneau, and need a healthy dose of good food for lunch, then spend the time to trekk your way up the hill to Rainbow foods. If you're coming off the Cruiseships, just go straight up the hill and it will be on your left, just a block from the Capital building, and Judicial building. It's also the one and only health food store with an extensive offering. It is pricey, but c'est la vie in a town that depends on planes and ships. read more

Offering prices that are high (as expected) this little store has a small selection of produce and a lot of dried goods bins as well as snack and crackers. Welcome to another exciting edition of City-by-the-Channel Shopping review. First, as some of you may have heard, there are rumors floating around that I have in fact left the Juneau area. I am here now to dismiss these false allegations. I absolutely still reside in the lower 48. Any talk of us having left the wild splendor that is Juneau is completely fictitious. I live in my house. Now, back to more pressing matters. In need of a traditional Haida shammy cloth? No idea where to find one on this side of Funter Bay? Well slow down sailor, take a minute to smell the El Sombrero, and stop by Rainbow Foods for the largest selection of whatever you need in the downtown area. On your way up Franklin St, be sure to pay homage to the late Chief Cherpa of the Ewok tribe on Endor, his likeness is commemorated in a bust in pocket park. Unknown to tourists and locals alike, a quick look under the stairs behind pocket park will yeild you with the city's best selection and variety of last Friday's vomit. Moving on past 2nd St. you may notice the lack of a subway stop, this is a problem city officials have addressed and are working on solving as we speak. Ahh, alas you have arrived at Rainbow Foods. Bask in the glory of Roy G. Bivs finest trail mix, his plethora of granola, and a selection of Bert's Bees that would bring the weird guy who collects mushrooms in a wicker basket downtown to his knees. Be sure to wear your finest thrift store-esque wool sweater and a pair of Carharts stuffed into your Xtra Tufs, as you wouldn't want to label yourself as a cruise ship deserter. While there, take a stroll through the Gatorade Mist tent, perfect for staying cool on the steamy winter days. Once outside, you may notice the line of Evergreen Taxis down at the Baranof. Great health food place! If you're serious about your health, you'll want to definitely pay a visit to this place. They have a lunch buffet which is fairly good, a nice option to Subway or MacDonald's. I was amazed to find a few other TCM formularies in their medicinals section. They do stock up on homeopathic, TCM, and vitamin based supplements. That alone is worth the trip to me. Also the health food choices are very good as well. read more

This place is a vegan Mecca in Juneau. They have lots of great products to buy, and their food bar contains numerous vegan options. I was so pleased to find a place where I could get food without having to specify "no dairy, no eggs, no meat"... However the staff are incredibly unfriendly and one can actually complete the entire checkout with no words exchanged. many times as i came in and during checkout i was not greeted nor ever thanked for shopping there!!! wish there was an alternative. read more

We were visiting friends in Juneau who took us here. I would go here every day for the lunch buffet - many unusual and tasty offerings, something for everyone. Reasonable prices. The lunch bar offers nice selection, and an escape from tourists in peak season. I got the pea soup, and it was of high quality - good soup is not to be taken for granted.
