Excited all week to try, unfortunately only 3 out of the 8 items were decent. Very small portions of the meat, gave us old barbecue pork that was hard and cold. Pretty much a bean-sprout container with hard crunchy noodles that they called chow main. Sweet-and-sour chicken was pretty good and despite the sesame chicken not actually having sesame on it, was decent with sweet-and-sour sauce. We got food to go from Rainbow House and it was fresh and delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful in the beef with snow peas and the peas were great with that little crunch of snap peas. Pork egg foo Yung is my guilty pleasure and it was outstanding with plenty of gravy. We also really enjoyed the fried shrimp and almost chicken. I had never been served by the lady who packed up our food but everything was there, including the extra red sauce I asked for for the fried shrimp. We love their food, but their hours of operation are ridiculous since they are not open for lunch. As a result we have always had to skip Rainbow House as our lunch choice location, it's too bad. If they improve their hours we will definitely be there for some of our lunches with friends and family. read more

Used a delivery app for dinner tonight. Food arrived as ordered quick and hot, neatly packaged and the extra napkins and utensils were also included. The food wasn't close to what I had hoped. I ordered the cheese wontons and a combo that came with pork chow mein, pork fried rice , and ss chicken. I opted for the $2 up charge for pan fried noodles. Chow mein- full of celery with little meat and reminiscent of canned chow mein. The pan fried noodles were not pan fried and instead of the amazing noodles you get in Seattle or Portland Chinese places these were a sticky mass fat low mein noodles. Pork fried rice - looked pretty when I open the box as it had a small amount of shredded bbq pork on top...to my disappointment that was the extend of the pork and not a pea, carrot, or onion in sight...I did happen across a small piece of egg....this was basically steamed rice darken with something that didn't add any flavor and not what I expected. Sweet and sour chicken was as expected with a decent sweet and sour sauce. The crab / cheese wontons were fried right and was happy with the huge amount of sweet and sour sauce included. We were craving some Chinese food and ordered delivery from Rainbow house. This was our first time ordering from there. The protein portions were huge! We had Orange chicken and General Tso chicken. Both were tasty so we weren't disappointed. It came with fried rice. This was a different story. The portions of rice were so tiny you'd think there was a major shortage of rice. They literally were about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of rice. The rice also was too heavily salted. We also had an order of bbq'd pork which was generous and tasty. Wonderful food in a cute setting with friendly and knowledgeable staff. We tried multiple things and everything was super fresh and extremely flavorable. The staff is abiding by covid guidelines by sanitizing, wearing masks and spacing the tables out. I really enjoyed this restaurant. read more

Rainbow House - Yummy yummy food!! - Chinese Near Me - Albany, Oregon

I was around in the neighborhood and decided to stop by Rainbow House again! If there is one appetizer I recommend, I'd recommend the crab puffs. The filling is very fresh. I also ordered my favorite noodle dish, Malayan Chow Mein. The curry flavor is light, yet still flavorful. Their orange chicken is very unique. What really impressed me is the sauce believe or not, actually has hints of a fruity orange flavor. Most of the orange chicken I've had in the past at other Chinese restaurants taste a bit more artificial, so I'm a big fan of this dish. Until next time! Had dinner with the wife and friends at the Rainbow House Chinese last night. Excellent quality and ingredients with friendly wait staff. Thankful they have opened up for dining room service. I loved the hot black tea and spending time with new friends. Mel the waitress was excellent and friendly, with a keen focus on service which made my evening. We've ordered from here a few times since it became Rainbow House, and both times I thought the food quality and portions were good. The first time they even made us something that's not on the menu when I asked if they had it, and it was great. I have no experience with eating in, just pick up. I like that they've added delivery, and our order easily covers the minimum order cost for our distance. Only removing a star because I feel the prices are a little high, and half a star isn't an option. read more

Oh my God, just when I didn't think it could get any better. I had the beef with green beans tonight. Un believable. Not just the flavor profile but the quality and the amount of beef was insane. It was $13.50 and I would have easily paid $18 for the plate that I got. If you have not tried this place you are really missing out. I came in for dinner after work and was surprised to see that the restaurant was under a new name/ownership. I had some good things and things that could have gone better with this experience. First the waitstaff were friendly and fast, albeit there seemed to be some communication troubles. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and asked if they could eliminate the peas from the dish. He thought i said peanuts, so i corrected and said No, i like peanuts, no green peas. But when they brought me the dish they left out BOTH peas AND peanuts, which was a little disappointing. The flavor of the kung pao chicken was really good though, so i didn't mention it. Peanuts would have made it better but it was still a tasty dish. I asked for fried rice, but they rice they brought me had not been fried, at least not the way you expect from most places. It looked like they had just added some soy sauce to the steamed rice and skipped the frying step. It was beautifully cooked sticky rice though so I enjoyed it even though it was not what i expected. The shrimp egg roll is where i felt they did the worst. The outside batter was really thick and not fried all the way through. I didn't finish it. Overall i think this is a good place to eat. Under previous ownership it was a GREAT place so it was a little disappointing, but i'm hoping that maybe they just have some rough edges to work out and it will improve. The food was delicious (appetizer aside) and the service is good. I will probably wait a few weeks and try it again to see if maybe it was an off night. read more

I love good Chinese food in the Rainbow House never lets me down. I always get a combo that includes barbecued pork chow yuk and it is so good and there's a big amount of barbecued pork in there. It also comes with egg rolls, sweet-and-sour shrimp and fried rice. There's no way I can ever finish the whole thing so I get at least two and sometimes three meals out of one order. I would never go to another Chinese restaurant near me I have tried another one was not impressed by their portions or menu. read more

We decided to try Rainbow House out of desperation. We've been desperate for decent Chinese food ever since we moved to Albany. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and the service. The restaurant looks the same as it used to under previous ownership, but a bit fresher and a lot cleaner. Our server was particularly attentive, friendly, and responsive. The soda machines did malfunction, so we were offered cans of soda instead. Tea was good, served in a lovely pot. Prices were very fair for the portions and the quality. I ordered sweet & sour chicken, my kiddo had orange chicken, and my husband tried the Mongolian beef. My hot and sour soup that came with the combo dinner was very good. The entrees were delicious, particularly my daughter's orange chicken. She loved how "orangey" it tasted. I tried it and yes, it was bright and fresh flavored. Good quality cuts of meat were used in all dishes. The fried rice is outstanding in my opinion. Simple and fluffy. My ONLY criticism is that of the chow mein that came with my meal. While the flavor was nice, it was entirely too much veg and not enough noodle. WAS there noodle in there? I'm still not really sure. Anyhoo...we will definitely be back again and are so glad to finally have a Chinese restaurant we all enjoy nearby. We even got to rub the Buddha's tummy on our way out. read more

The sweet and sour literally caused me a headache from the excessive sodium. I took one bite of the almond chicken and just threw in the trash. Had dinner tonight with three sons and three grandsons. Waiter was very attentive.
