I rarely write negative reviews but I feel obligated on this one. We are new to town and have been craving Chinese food. We chose Sum Yan because they were the only one who had Mu Shu Pork on the menu. We ordered it, Kung Pao Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Egg Rolls. It was the worst Chinese food we have ever ordered - there was absolutely no taste. The Mu Shu was all cabbage with a little bit of ground pork. The Kung Pao had no spice/heat - it was basically chicken with vegetables - certainly not anything close to a traditional Kung Pao. The egg rolls were greasy and filled with cabbage - no flavor. We really hoped that we had found our new go to place, but unfortunately we will not be back - especially at that price point. On the positive side I will say that ordering by phone for pick up was a very good experience - the person answering the phone was extremely pleasant and answered my questions and the food was ready in less than 20 minutes. And the portions were generous - just not tasty. :-( read more

We ordered chicken foo young and #4 combo that had fried shrimp, beef with vegetables, orange chicken w/fried rice. The chicken foo young(egg foo young with a small bit of diced chicken on the side) was very tough and chewy. They must have made well ahead(days) and warmed it up, sort of. Bottom of it was downright tough and the upper part was still chewy. Chicken bits and gravy were OK, but all of it was barely warm, unlike the beef and vegies that was very hot and fresh. Only problem is every bite but one of the beef was very chewy. Had to spit out the gristle at the end of each bite. Shrimp were good. Orange chicken was OK. Then there was the check. Pricing from menu for both should have been $33.90 per their menu on Facebook. They charged 39.70 when I walked in to pick it up. Come on Facebookers, keep your stuff fairly current. Overall this was the second time here in 2 years and we wont be going back. read more

I had seen this place in passing for years but never tried it. Today was a special birthday for my mom and she wanted Chinese. I ordered the Gourmet Family dinner C for seven to go. As soon as we walked in I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed . The smell was heavenly and the lunch buffet looked wonderful. We received our order in a very large box and the aroma filled the car. What we unpacked at mom's house did not disappoint. All of the food was hot and fresh. The orange chicken was especially good as was the beef broccoli and zucchini chicken. If you like Chinese American food this is the place to go. read more

Service was very good but maybe that's because there was only one table with anyone here on a Friday evening. That should have been my first clue. Fried shrimp and egg roll were both dripping with grease and extremely soggy. Pork fried rice had two very tiny pieces of pork in a huge serving, and chow main came out swimming in liquid with little or no pork or anything else for that matter except rice noodles and what were supposed to be crisp chow main noodles were a combination of soggy and tough, not crisp at all. Ordered take out and the service was really good, big portions and decently priced. Was a little disappointed because of the bland flavor of everything. Also got an order of the crab Rangoon and was extremely disappointed, there was almost no filling at all, total waste. Probably won't be back, there are better places. read more

I never liked egg foo young until I tried it at Sum Yan. Their menu has a lot of choices for folks with different preferences. We eat at Sum Yan at least once a month and the food quality is consistent and always good. The one time we did have a problem with a take out order they made it right, no questions asked. The service is good, the food is good, and they have facilities for larger groups. This is one of our regular favorites. They have a lunch buffet that is a good value, but it is generally the same each day. People looking for variety may get tired of the buffet fairly quickly. I have enjoyed it when I have ordered it. read more

The buffet food was either cold or so over cooked from staying on the warming plate that is was like saddle leather the green salad was sitting in water so it had browned and was rather limp.(our child ate off the buffet) My wife and I ate family style. The appetizer was okay pork was luke warm and definitely had sat for awhile. We got the chicken and shrimp with vegetables and the sweet and sour chicken. Chicken and shrimp was good, but the sweet and sour chicken had so much sauce that the breading fell off and was rather chewy. read more

Stopped here for an impromptu lunch. The pros: waitress was very sweet and attentive. Friend said sweet and sour soup was quite good. The prices were super cheap ($7.95 lunch buffet and $5.95? for lunch menu items.) portions on the meals were a good size. Cons: buffet is tiny. One little row. Just a handful of dishes, plus some plan lettuce with 4 dressings and cut cantaloupe. Itching looked especially spectacular. While they did refill things they were low on several items and we had to ask for one that was out. Everything was way too salty, more so than almost any Asian food I've ever had. Egg rolls were not good. One of my doing companions was brought the wrong order. They corrected it, but it took a few minutes to cook the correct dish. I will not eat here again. I don't recommend it unless you need a cheap meal. read more

I went here today with my boyfriend and nephew. My first impression was that it was clean. We ordered chicken with green beans in black bean sauce, sesame chicken, and a combination; fried shrimp, pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and beef with vegetables. I also had the egg flower soup with my meal. I really liked the sesame chicken it had good flavor and the chicken was good quality. Almost everything was good except the pork fried rice and egg flower soup. The rice was dry and looked kind of old. I was tentative on eating the egg flower soup, it was neon yellow and tasted like nothing. Overall we recieved good service and most of the food was good. read more

Went here today with my wife to see if anything had changed. Had the buffet. This was around 1pm and not that many people there. The egg rolls and other fried item were all gone and 3 of the other entrees were all most gone. 3 or 4 items per warming tray. This is how it went the whole time we were there. They would put a little in and in a few minutes it was gone. We sat there waiting for items to come. I never did get an egg roll. When I went to pay the owner asked did you write on the web. At first I did not know what he was talking about. It had been about 4 years earlier I was there and he came to our table and complained about the food we left on the plate. I was there with friends and could not believe he said that. So I wrote a review about that. So today he told me "remove review or not come back" . Well I'm not removing review and now writing this update. Don't worry I will not be back and will let every one I know of your rudeness and lack of food in your buffet. read more

Not very good. So I went here today for some good Chinese food, what i got was something else. The atmosphere was decent, the buffet was extremely small, so I opted for a menu. On the back of the menu I found the lunch section, I ordered the spicy shredded pork lunch special. The food I received was not shredded nor did it have the tiniest hint of heat to it, I couldn't even find a single crushed red pepper. What I got was pulverized tiny bits of ground pork in a sea of flavorless vegetables. If you want very mediocre flavorless Chinese food then this is your place. The service I had was very good. They took my order quickly (for take out) and food didn't take too long. They didn't allow any kind of substitutions which was kind of unfortunate as I ended up with more sweet and sour chicken than I wanted. The food was extremely fresh and piping hot...but it didn't taste like anything? It's not very often I think Chinese food needs salt but the only way to describe the food is bland. My chicken was tough in some of my dishes and just not very good quality. Huge portions and fresh food, but what's the point if you don't really want to eat it? read more
