3/5 overall for food. Solid dim sum for a few standout dishes, but my search for the best dim sum spot in Sin City continues. I was excited to finally try Rainbow Kitchen during my parents' visit this past week after saving this spot for quite some time. Reading about their m 40+ years specialized in the Cantonese cuisine, especially their emphasis on made-to-order dim sum, raised my expectations. First, I am genuinely glad to see them doing well after taking over the restaurant in 2020. The restaurant was packed when we arrived around 12:30pm on Tuesday, June 23, which is always encouraging to see. There are a few live seafood tanks as expected for this style of Cantonese restaurant. Prices run slightly higher than some dim sum spots, but nothing unreasonable. The standouts were excellent. The Steamed Shrimp & Chive Dumplings had thin wrappers with just enough dough to hold everything together while allowing the freshness and flavor of the filling to shine. The Baked Pineapple Lava Bun was one of the best I have had in quite a while. Too often these buns are mostly bread with very little filling, but these had a generous amount of salted egg yolk lava filling. The Soy Sauce Pan Fried Noodles may sound simple, but many restaurants butcher this dish. Rainbow Kitchen executed it well. These three items alone are worth ordering again and are easy recommendations. Most of the other dishes we tried were perfectly acceptable but nothing particularly memorable. They were fine, though not items we would reorder. Our biggest disappointment was actually the one item we ordered from the regular menu: Salted Fish Fried Rice. As lovers of traditional Cantonese salted fish fried rice, we were genuinely excited to see it on the menu. The first order arrived incorrectly with only chicken. We specifically requested only salted fish, no chicken, because we're OG like that. When the dish was remade, there were barely any pieces of salted fish (look at my clip), and both the aroma and signature salty flavor were missing. We could neither smell nor taste the salted fish. Unfortunately, we sent it back and asked for it to be removed from our bill. The staff handled the situation professionally and patiently, which we appreciated. One note for future diners: the printed menu hours inside the restaurant differed from the Yelp listing, so it is worth calling ahead to confirm. The good news is that they are open seven days a week. Overall, Rainbow Kitchen is a solid made-to-order dim sum spot for a few specific dishes, but across the menu the food landed around a 3/5 for us. Went here on a Thursday for lunch and oh my, soo enjoyable. 1pm and we were seated right away. We aimed for only dim sum. You get a dim sum menu that you can mark up the quantity you want and they will bring it out. Their original dim sum items were a hit with us. Har gow - must x2 Shrimp rice paper in sauce - amazing. Shu Mai - yes! Fried Fish fillet in salt and pepper - a must Spareribs - so flavorful We tried a few others and it was not that good. Bbq crispy pork - it was quite chewy and skin was not crispy. Green beans - were a bit overcooked Fried har gow - doughy. Great service and very attentive workers. They offered us a lobster for $30 as we ordered over $30 of food. They consistently offer fresh seafood, including live fish, lobster, and crab. Our go-to order always includes: * Dungeness crab with ginger and scallions -- incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. * Salt and pepper calamari -- crispy, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious. * Ong choy with garlic -- fresh, simple, and packed with flavor. This place has been on my list to try for quite a while. Finally made it in. It's 2pm and 103 degrees and I want soup! Hot n Sour soup. Since my previous favorite place closed, it's been difficult to find it without meat or seafood. I usually ask for it extra spicy but I saw chili oil and white pepper on the table, so I opted not to ask. Good thing I didn't! It's perfectly hot the way it is. It's think the way it should be with beautiful ribbons of egg. I didn't care for their choice of mushroom, easy enough to avoid. Instead of tofu, they use wheat noodles which was a nice change. It comes in a huge bowl, so I will have plenty to take home. The server was kind and ladled into a smaller bowl for me. There are about 15 tables, ranging from a table for two to rounds for 8. Ordered food for takeout and it was still piping hot when I got home 30 minutes later. Service was fast as we called the order in when we were on our way already. Great touch separating the sauce from the noodles. Extremely flavorful sauce too, by the way. The kung pao chicken was also perfectly portioned. Love coming here for dim sum lunch. It's close to my house and big restaurant for a lot of people too. We waited only about 10 min for the 2 of us to get seated. We ordered tangerine beef rice rolls, eggplant stuffed with shrimp paste, and salt n pepper fish. We also ordered oolong tea as well. Tea is $1.88 a person. Everything came out hot and fresh. The eggplant portion was really big and perfect to share. They cut them in halves. The salt n pepper fish had lot of fried garlic, green onion, and jalapenos for flavor. This is officially my new go-to dim sum spot in Vegas. The restaurant itself is tiny and very basic, so don't come expecting a fancy dining room. But if you're here for the food, it's absolutely worth it. So far, this is the best tasting, best-made dim sum I've had in Las Vegas. The classic dim sum dishes really shine. Authentic Chinese food in the new Chinatown (south Rainbow). I think I saw a John Curtis review of the dim sum so decided to try it. Three non-Asian guys walking in for lunch got the manager's attention. He was very nice and seemed a bit surprised that we were not novice dim sum guys (we had to ask for chopsticks) but when I tapped my knuckles to thank him for the tea... he gave me a knowing nod and then explained the history behind the gesture (I knew the tradition, but not how it came about). The restaurant is too tight for carts which means if you don't know what items are, you don't get to see them first. But it also means all the dim sum comes out hot and fresh, no lukewarm shu mai! They've got the fresh fish tanks, big round tables with lazy Susan's, primarily Chinese clientele, and delicious dim sum. We may not be experts, but we could tell we were not the only ones that thought the food was excellent. We'll definitely be back. Xie xie! read more

The porridge was actually okay. If the rice could be cooked a little softer. The crispy shrimp dumplings were a bit oily. Also, the freshly baked roast duck didn't have the crispy texture and was a bit lacking in flavor. The food in this restaurant has a relatively low salt content for me. If there were a little more salt, it might be even more delicious. The service was also very good. They often came over to check if there was any tea or water, and even offered to change the plates for us. But what was not so good was that when they saw you had nothing to eat, they would quickly come over to ask if you wanted to pay the bill. It feels like I'm about to leave after eating, and that made me uncomfortable . Their tips are calculated after tax, starting from 18%. I don't mind giving them 18% because the service is quite good. But I do mind giving them 18% after tax. Although it's a difference of a few dollars, this is a matter of principle. There's no reason for you to ask us consumers to pay the tax for your tips. Later, I gave them 18% before tax. But overall, compared with the Chinese food I've been to, it's still okay. So I give them four stars read more

There are very few restaurants where I am a 'regular' because we don't eat out enough, but this is one of them. There was a time where I think our group of 6-8 came here almost every Sunday for a month, lol. Chinatown dim sum, who's that? For those of us who don't want to do the trek, this is a haven. And imo, Rainbow Kitchen is just as good as places in Chinatown, but without the wait or parking nightmares. Everytime we've gone at 11am when they open, we've never had to wait for a table. Their portions are pretty good for the price and the meticulousness of their dishes is really what stands out. They have some dishes that my Cantonese mother-in-law says other places just won't make or serve because it's too much work. Less salty and more fresh than other places. The people who work here are also just super friendly too and dare I say actually provide good service? I think they started recognizing us at some point because of my friend's baby, so they were always super welcoming to our group. Not a bad option for Chinese takeout in Southwest Vegas. They do a solid Crispy Roasted Pork and good HK Style Pan-Fried Noodles! Their Sweet & Sour Chicken, however, is a miss. The chicken can be soggy on the outside and tough on the inside, and the sauce is too tart and runny, which contributes to the soggy issue. I prefer New York Chinese Restaurant's Sweet & Sour, for comparison's sake. Don't appreciate that they charge a buck or two more for each item than advertised. Took home Hug Gao, Shu Mai, Beef chow fun and 1/2 Roasted duck. Loved it... Shu Mai was good, Hug Gao was great and Duck was tasty, I liked it different than Asian BBQ noodle on Jones which is the Best Roasted Duck for us here in vegas. Took my my back to dine in today, Order Shrimp egg roll, Steamed beef noodle, Hug GAO, Shu Mai, Pork spareribs/Taro, Fried salted stuffed buns and Tried their Peking Duck which was $50, about $10 more than the regular roasted duck would cost. Everything else was ok as expected except the Peking Duck... I was expected the Skin only cut off to serve but it came out sliced with meat attached, even I mentioned and shown the yelp picture to her of what style we wanted but still came out that way. Overall it was alright. Beef noodles, Hug Gao and Shu Mai is recommended for this place. Regular Roasted duck is ok too if you don't feel like driving to Asian BBQ noodle ( Tung Ky ) on Jones/Spring Mountain. For me this place has the Best Hug Gao! in town by far. Overall the meal was decent, but I prefer other dim sums and Peking ducks in the area. Eggplant with shrimp paste - the eggplant and shrimp was cooked right, but the sauce was a little bland (and the pieces are extremely large for dim sum portions) Beef pan fried noodles - pretty solid beef pan fried noodles Peking duck - weird that they give you the bones. It makes it hard to make pancake rolls.
