It isn't much. I recently purchased a Dyson Ball vacuum. I had one ten years ago and loved it. The one I initially purchased had an issue going over our carpet. You had to be Superman to move it. I spoke with Dyson Customer Service and was told there was a gasket that needed to be removed for easier rolling. It worked. Fast forward to now, I am having the same issue and forgot how to remove the gasket. I brought it to Rainbow and they said they would look at it. The following day I received a call that the vacuum worked perfectly and they couldn't find the gasket. We concluded that possibly Dyson corrected the issue and there is possibly some other way to make the vacuum roll over carpet. I intend to call them tomorrow. Didn't hear back after a week for a broken hose, I called & was told by Mike he'd get back to me in two or three days. Another week passes so I call again, & was told no parts available. So, like many other customers have experienced, no communication, it's up to you to call, just not good customer service. I picked up my vacuum and only one side of the latch on the hose was broken when I dropped it off so it still worked just popped out occasionally, now the other side is broken so can't use it at all. This is a small, family-run business (father and son). I have used their services twice in the last 4-5 years and they have always provided friendly and reliable service at a reasonable price. They may not be as fast as some, but considering the huge number of vacuums they take in and that there are only the two of them, I think their turn-around time is admirable. read more

I love this vacuum repair store. I've been getting my vacuums fixed with Rainbow since they were over at Genessee and Balboa and African American guy named Patrick took care of me there. He moved on but I have not. I wrote a five star review before but my reviews have been disappearing. Today, I found a Hoover Wind Tunnel Self Propelled Hepa filter vac for $14.95 at the PB Goodwill. I already own two Windtunnels, for 21 years, so I am familiar with their operations. One I bought from a thrift store for $25. The brush roller on the Goodwill one didn't spin on carpet cleaning setting, so I got the manager to give it to me for $9.99. I already called a vac store who speculated it was only a $20 belt issue. I couldn't find Rainbow by entering vacuum repairs stores on Yelp. But after taking it to Rainbow, Mike decided he did t wanna wait 10 days for me to pick it up because I was leainvg the country. Mike installed a 2 belt set, and in 5 min my $10 vac is good to go. He said it needed an adjustment to make the self propelled to work moving forward (it self propels backwards OK), but I didnt wanna spend another $20 on labor without trying it out on my carpet at home. That would mean the used vac cost me $50, instead of $30. Mike said the hepa filter bag was full and wanted to change it, but I said No. I didn't tell him why. But when I got home I removed the dirt from the bag with kitchen tongs and sprayed the inside with Meguires Order Eliminator. The hepa filters keep the inside of the vac and the other filters soooo clean, and can be reused and reused, they may be worth the $12.95 for one. I have been going to Rainbow Vac Repair for 25 years. Usually it is Paul who takes care of my vac. I like it that they sometimes have used parts. I like to save $ and recycle, as you can tell. Rainbow restored the very first vacuum my family ever owned from 1950, a GE canister. Over the years Rainbow put new hoses, cord, and 4 years ago, fitted it with a wheel cradle cos it didn't have wheels. I am soooo pleased with my $30 Self-Propelled Hoover Windtunnel. Our 2005 Eureka Bossvac had seen better days. The once robust motor had lost some pep in it's step. And the extendable hose feature had totally lost suction too. But I didn't want to throw it away. My Grandparent's still have a vacuum from the 1960s and it works like a champ. I knew that if I got my vacuum a little TLC it still had many days ahead. I visited Rainbow Service Center and they got the old red dragon fixed up by the next day! A new belt, a clog removed, and a little tinkering had it back in business. I also bought some new bags and the total bill was around $55. Do yourself a favor and get your appliances fixed rather than just throwing things away. You'll be saving some cash as well as preventing more junk from clogging up our landfills. Our 14 year-old vacuum is still going strong and is doing a great job! Yours can too! Thanks Rainbow! I tried to replace the beater brush on my Dyson DC07 Animal on my own, but I discovered that the design of this particular vacuum is much more complicated than other vacuums. Certainly out of my league. I found Rainbow Service Center on Yelp and boy am I glad I did! Not only was my vacuum expertly repaired within one day, the price was extremely reasonable. I had an intermittent problem with my much used and beloved Dyson vacuum cleaner....and after fiddling about with self instruction YouTube videos...and on-line ordered parts...I took my vacuum here. They took the time and effort to locate a randomly appearing malfunction, used original parts and charged a very reasonable fee for their efforts! How often do you see that? Fantastic service! I tried troubleshooting and repairing a Dyson myself, but had difficulty removing the battery. I visited this shop four times and paid over $200 for numerous repairs and even exchanged the original vacuum for another. I never got what I paid for. It's been three months of back and forth and I haven't gotten a vacuum that works yet. The owner, Paul has refused to give me my money back. It didn't matter to him that I don't have much money to begin with, that I've made a long trip over four times to his shop, or that I paid over the retail value of the machine which he has failed to repair so many times. I would NOT recommend this shop for any vacuum repair. Today was my 2nd time in the shop for service/repairs. The first time I was in the shop, 3 years ago, was to service my $1500 Rainbow vacuum that had never been cleaned. I wasn't particularly happy with the work that was actually done for the $110.00 I was charged. Basically, he cleaned it out but didn't repair or replace anything but a $4.00 band!!! I ranted & raved to my husband about it for awhile and ultimately made future repairs at another local shop, which due to the economy closed recently. Since it's been a few years and I now have a less expensive Target bought vacuum I thought I would give it another try...I found out quickly that this was a bad decision. First, he quoted me $69.95 to clean a "clogged" vacuum. Then he had the nerve to accuse me, or someone is my household, of having removed one of the two filters. Then he re-quoted me a higher price...it went from $69.95 to $79.95 in the same conversation. I knew the first time that this guy was overcharging me but I gave him a second chance to prove me wrong. Unfortunately, he is a crook and I would recommend that if you need your vacuum fixed, find some other repair shop to do the work. Now it makes sense why there's a graveyard (literally) of vacuums in this guy's shop. I don't trust him and neither should you!! read more

Had a super old but very expensive Oreck vacuum that suddenly stopped working. After having spent the better part of twenty minutes attempting to self-diagnose and fix it, naturally I was unsuccessful. I found these guys through the aid of Yelp (gotta love y'all!!!) and the men here fixed it in less than ten minutes at a reasonable price and I walked out with what seems to be a brand new vacuum! Fortunately for my ego it was not something I could have repaired on my own as it needed a new roller brush lolol.. Very friendly service, albeit maybe not the most efficient. They thought my phone number was 760 instead of 714, so that held up some things. In the end I got my hoover fixed for $50 and it works like new! When they called to tell me what was wrong with it, he rattled off a list of this that needed to be replaced and I thought it was going to be expensive, but that wasn't the case. If you are in a hurry don't be chatty with Paul, or he will talk your ear off. read more

It's never been more clear that someone was annoyed at what I felt were pretty standard questions - how long will it take to fix? if I'm in a rush is there anyway to prioritize the fix? etc - I was constantly talked over and talked down to. Actually they told me it would cost me to much to fix the vac. I ended up taking the vac to a dyson service center and it was repaired under warranty(very good service, but thats another review). Okay you can't tell from their name, but they also fix sewing machines. I have a 30+ year old sewing machine that used to be my mothers that I love, love, love. Not just because of the sentimental factor as she taught me how to sew on this machine when I was a kid, but also because it has all metal guts and can sew through a double layer of leather or denim like butter. Try that on one of your new fancy stitch machines and you will strip your gears. Anyway, it has been slowly getting gummed up and the timing seemed to be a little off. Then my husband accidentally broke the stitch width lever. I was afraid I would never find anyone who could repair my machine--I am sure they don't even make parts for it anymore! I called around and the only people who even said that they would take a look at it were the were Rainbow Service Center. I dropped it off and they said they would call me with a quote. Then I talked to my sister who guessed that it would be $300 or more as it had cost her $150 to get her much newer sewing machine tuned up (she lives in Chicago). Well they called and told me it would be $89.00, and that included making a new lever from scratch! 3 days later I picked up my mavhine and it works beautifully!!! It just goes to show that there are still people in the world who are interested in providing quality workmanship at reasonable prices!!!! I went to get my vacuumed fixed. I picked up my vacuum and it was making a loud noise it never made before. I took it back and they wanted more money on top of the money I had already paid to fix the problem. Paul is rude and not professional. They originally charged me for vacuum bags they never gave me, my vacuum was never fixed, and employees were not wearing face masks. Don't bother taking your vacuum or anything you need repaired to this place. read more

Jeremy was wonderful on the phone and really seemed to know what he was doing. I was disappointed when he called me for a quote to repair my vacuum. He said that it would cost more to repair my machine than it would to buy one of the refurbished machines in his shop. I asked him in detail what was wrong with my machine. He said that both filters needed replaced and I needed to have it cleaned. All together that would be $160 to repair. I could buy one of his for $100. I picked up my machine without having the repairs done. Now, I actually knew what was wrong when I dropped it off. The belt was broken. I just felt lazy and like my time could be better spent while someone else fixed my vacuum. I feel really bitter about my exchange with Jeremy now. I rinse and replace my filter after every couple uses. I have a backup so I always have a clean one. The Hepa filter was dirty and definitely did need replaced. $11 on Amazon. I just bought a two pack of belts on Amazon for under $7 and my vacuum is running great again. Guess to him I just looked like a dumb, helpless woman. read more

Paul is extremely rude and unprofessional. As far as services, they got the job done and at a good price, which was great. I will never return though, because it's not worth having such unpleasant interactions. I rarely even write reviews, but I feel this 1 star is all they earned. I clarified something on the phone with Paul about a part for my vacuum and his response was a sarcastic "isn't that what I just said?" Then, when I picked up my vacuum he simply stood and stared at me for a good 10 seconds in silence after collecting my claim ticket from me. I finally was the one to break the silence by cordially telling him that I was simply waiting for him to provide me with a total. He stated "we already talked about that on the phone." No excuses for poor behavior such as this. It was very uncalled for and rude. Since when is it okay to request payment by staring at someone in silence? Awful. We have been running our doggy daycare business for a year. We realized we needed a better vacuums compared to the ones we were getting at Target or online. We are so happy to have found rainbow service center! We purchased a high-end vacuum from Rainbow about a month ago. One of our employees accidentally ran over the cord and totally frayed it. Not only were the guys friendly from the very beginning they took great care of us today with our broken vacuum. We are taking our vacuum back to Dogtopia now, less then seven hours from the time we brought it in for servicing. We will be able to use our vacuum tonight!
