Brought bracelet to be repaired he said go around the corner tell them I sent you, he has better tools. I brought two coats with broken zippers. Twice he fixed them and did not charge me. I would trust him to do anything- knowing he would fix it right at a more than fair price or send me to someone else. My friend who referred him has taken shoes to him for years- the result always as good as new, with high quality parts. I had destroyed the heel of my favorite leather boots. I'm talking nail head showing, leather flipping up the inside of the heel, ground down clickety clackety noise making destroyed. My friend assured me she could fix it and then put some kind of epoxy putty on the heel and roughly shaped it to a semblance of a heel and presented them to me with a beaming smile. They looked terrible. I glumlythanked her and tried not to cry. I brought them and another pair of purple suede boots abd not only did the very nice guy in the shop fix both pairs- he did it in a day and a half. They look amazing. I took several pairs, upon the recommendation of a friend. - ALL were, completely ruined by Anthony's poor craftsmanship - three pairs, now, have a crunching sound, with every single step Bottomline, all shoes were provided shoddy repairs, with very poor quality materials, to very high quality shoes. I moved a few months ago, which means that this place is no longer around the corner from me, but I still bring my shoes here because it's just that good. Over the last five years, I've had everything from boots to dress shoes to sandals re-soled, re-heeled, as well as buckles, straps, and zippers replaced. I've always been happy with the results, service, and prices. I once brought in a pair of strappy heels to see if he could fix the many areas where the double-layered leather was coming apart. He told me he could fix them if I wanted, but that I could easily and inexpensively do it myself with a bit of superglue, thus saving me money when he could have easily charged me. He also gives a free polish and shine when I get boots re-heeled, though always checks to make sure that's okay (apparently some people prefer not to have distressed styles polished). You can pay in full up front, or leave a deposit amount of your choosing (I once left $3 on $20), and pay the rest upon pickup. You'll get a text when your shoes are ready. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Trying this place out for the first time due to the great reviews and how it's so close to my apt... Picking shoes up 2morrow. Let's see how it is! I dropped off a pair of kitten heels with very scuffed/ slightly damaged heels due to rough walking ... and one oxford that had a sole coming unglued. Remind me to bring along a braided white belt to see if they can shorten it. Edit: Yup. Still good. I got my shoes back and 1) the kitten heels look like new. Rubber tips were fitted onto them that are a lot thicker than what used to be there so it's easier to walk in. 2) Tiny nails were put into the sole of the oxford and 3) I left my belt there and it looks really good after he took 13 inches off of it! Now I can finally start to wear it with dresses. read more

Great people work here! Brought in my boots to have the soles glued back on. Anthony saw they were made by Doc Marten, were in good condition, but the soles were clearly defective.(AKA it was the company's fault they broke) He told me that he could fix them, but recommended that i call the company, send them a picture and just get them replaced for free. He also gave me a temporary fix by supergluing and nailing the sole back in for just $8! Really class move to turn down business to help save me money. read more

Took a pair of hiking boots here for patch on a blowout. Dude did a solid job for 15$ . Looks great too, a lot better than i expected given the location of the tear. Just hiked 40+miles in em and its holding up beautifully. Also repaired my watch (just a basic casio- but sentimental) for $2 . Classic Nyc repair spot, this guy knows his stuff. read more

This guy straight-up ripped me off, and treated me really poorly to boot. (No pun intended.) When I dropped off my two pairs of shoes, he asked me to pay $20 up-front as a deposit, saying that I would pay the remaining half of the price ($17) when I came to pick them up. He gave me a little red receipt with all the information regarding the shoes, the full price, and the deposit I had paid him, and told me to give him the receipt when I came to pick up. Two weeks later, I returned to pick up my shoes. I gave him my receipt, and he brought out my shoes, which he had done a beautiful job repairing. I was so happy with my boots, and it had been so long since I had dropped them off, that I had completely forgotten about the deposit I'd given him. So, when he asked me to pay the full price then ($37), I paid him happily. It wasn't until later that evening, after he had closed, that I remembered the deposit. I figured that if I came back the next time he was open, and explained to him that I had accidentally overpaid, he'd understand and give me back the $20, right? Wrong! When I came back, and very politely explained to him what had happened, his manner became very cold and deadpan. He said the only way he would believe I was telling the truth, was if I proved it to him with my receipt... which I had given to him upon pick-up. Turns out, he throws away all the receipts that customers leave with him after picking up their shoes. So according to him, he had no reason whatsoever to trust me. Awesome! When I tried to politely reason with him, suggesting that there must have been some mistake, he just kept coldly refusing to budge. Eventually he said to me, "Fine! Maybe you ARE telling the truth. Maybe you accidentally paid me an extra $20. But if you did, that's not my problem. Looks to me like you just accidentally gave me a $20 tip." To which I had no response other than to stare at him in speechless rage, robotically thank him for his time, and leave the store. So, yeah. Basically just really, really poor customer service. He treated me like some suspicious creep off the street, and refused to reimburse me after ADMITTING he may have overcharged me. (Ended up costing me $57 total.) Very disappointing. If you go to this guy to get your shoes fixed, I guess my advice is, make sure you keep very careful track of your receipt and how much you owe him! Because he certainly won't. read more

Really glad I followed the Yelp reviews on this one. Fixed my leather boots to where you would never know there was a rip unless you really knew to look, and replaced both heels ($39 for 2 new heels, fixed rips on both boots near the sole). Fixed a major broken heel on another shoe the guy down on Grand said he couldn't do ($10). And when I went to pick up those shoes, and dropped another one off for a minor aesthetic fix on the heel, he charged me $1 and told me to come pick it up in 30 min. $50 to make 3 pairs of shoes with varying degrees of broken look like new. Awesome. He was upfront about cost and what could/couldn't be done, and actually called me when they were done ahead of schedule. One thing - I should have told him not to polish my boots (they are meant to look distressed - they needed a slight polish, but not a full polish). I will have to re-distress them, but if you make that clear ahead of time, you will only get the free extra service if you want it ;) read more

I was hesitant to go to Rainbow because, well, there just wasn't any information about it anywhere online - here, Citysearch, etc. It was like a ghost of a shop. However, I'm so glad I took a chance and visited their shop! Shoe repair can be tough - so many people doing such a mediocre job. I invest a lot in my shoes so when they need repair, I want them handled with care by someone who will take care of them. I was/am SO HAPPY with Rainbow Shoe Repair. He is kind, quick, thorough and does great job. The best job I've seen in NYC (love Hector's in the WV too). I recommend his work without hesitation. Of note: - He isn't open on Saturdays so you have to drop off or pick up on your way to work or on Sunday. -He works super quick so it usually just takes 1-2 days. -It's super affordable ($7 for a heel replacement, $4 to stretch, etc) read more

Do NOT go here! There are MUCH better cobblers in the city, both in terms of price and quality of work. Anthony charged me $20 to fix a small zipper on a boot, and $10 to do minor repair on a heel. I usually pay $5 for each of those things at my normal cobbler near Irving Place. But I was in a rush and went here just this once. When I went to pick up my shoes, he couldn't find them. So he asked me to wait while he helped 3 or 4 other customers. Fine. But then when he finally found my shoes, they looked TERRIBLE! I am going to have to take them to my other cobbler to fix! So it was a complete waste of money. Instead of fixing the heel on my black bootie, he simply colored the rips in black marker or paint! And that cost $10! I told him I wasn't happy with the work, and he said if I wanted him to "fix" the heel, it would cost another $10. I told him that was why I brought the shoes to him in the first place - why else? He became extremely rude and aggressive, so I left, with my shoes in just as bad condition as they were when I dropped them off. And he wouldn't give me my money back for the heels (he makes you pay some or all of the cost when you drop off the shoes). So now I'm $30 poorer and still have broken shoes. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. There's a guy on 16th & Irving Place who does MUCH better work, has better hours and prices, and is so much nicer. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but this store is amazing. Anthony, the repair guy, is so friendly and straight forward. I brought him a pair of my patent leather heels which were pretty banged up(leather was coming off/hanging off the heel itself, and completely nonexistent rubber sole. And he managed to add an even better rubber sole than the shoe came with originally, and fixed up the heels so that the leather is on the heel and not hanging off. One of my handbag's detachable strap hook broke and he was able to order the same color and add it on. I've returned to this place many times to add new soles, fix watches, and change watch batteries. He also gets things done fast. Definitely recommend. read more

This guy is amazing, fast and really nice. I've taken two pairs of shoes to him and am so impressed. The first was a pair of high boots that I spent a pretty penny on about 4 years ago. They're quality and they've lasted. He was able to replicate a replacement for one of the decorative leather buttons that had fallen off from another piece of leather he had. The second pair had heels wrapped in leather that started coming away from the heel. All repaired and these boots look good as new. The last thing to mention is that he doesn't try to upsell you on products or services you don't need. I asked if I should replace the sole protection that had lifted slightly and he suggested we do the heels first and wait until I need the soles done. Again -- really amazing. read more

Guy was rude when I walked in and asked about stretching some shoes. I asked him how it worked and exactly how much larger I can expect them to stretch and he just kept saying "I don't know but they will be bigger". How exactly is that helpful?? I asked him to give me his best estimate and he just shrugged again and said "they will be bigger". Why would I pay money for a service when you cant even assure me that you can actually stretch my shoe? :O at that point I just walked out. read more

I asked about getting some ink stains removed from the inside of my shoe but the guy seemed to have a solid policy of not doing work on the insides of shoes. Opens on Sundays! I got a pair of dress shoes that my last shoe repair shop tried to fix but the sole fell apart. When I bought back the last shoe repair guy said throw them away. I didn't have a good feeling. So i researched what near my home and found this place. I bought my shoes and said he can fix that. After one week, WOW he fixed the issue. Okay I've lived in NYC for over 7 years, in numerous neighborhoods and boroughs. This is really as good as it gets. I was paying $30 in the East Village and $50 in Brooklyn Heights, this guy charges $15, yes 1-5 and does an amazing job. Not to mention, SUPER fast. I bought some boots online for $15, and even though they were terrible quality, I loved them for the couple of months they lasted me. When the heel plate broke off one of them, I kept wearing them until the heel sole was so worn down that the shoes were too uneven to walk on. Knowing the sort of quality and damage I would be bringing in, I searched yelp until I found this place. It's not close to me, but I decided to come because of the reviews. I had never gotten any shoes fixed, so I didn't really know what to expect, but the shop keeper-- Anthony?-- was honest and told me that he could fix and clean my shoes, but it probably wouldn't last that long. Even then, I decided to leave my shoes with him and that turned out to be the best decision ever! Not only did he fix the heel on both boots, he used a rubber material that looks way more durable than the original. All the patent leather that was flaking off is covered up, and the boots look brand new! I can't wait to wear them again. I should ask the name of the man that runs this spot, but after reading reviews, I went into get the straps tightened on a pair of Birkenstocks I'd just gotten. He did it right away, charged me $2 and sent me on my way. I came back with a disastrous pair of heels (my favorite). I'd fallen down a flight of stairs and thought I completely ruined them. I explained they were my favorite and I'd take whatever he could do to make them look wearable. He finished them that day, texted me to say they were ready and when I picked them up, they looked brand new. He replaced the heels, fixed both toes, and polished them.
