I just moved to the West Village within the past year and I went to a few different places to get pricing to fix the boots. they were the least expensive so I gave them a chance. he did a PHENOMENAL job! my boots are like brand new and the price was very fair. very convenient location as well. as long as I live in the West Village I will bring all of my shoe repairs to them! Used to be good, lately subpar. Also the owner is nice when he wants to be but complains nonstop and nickel and dimes you for a job. Recently I had to come back twice for a job he didn't finish the first time and when I came back the studs he was supposed to repair on a bag were falling off. Oh and did I mention he charged me another $10 to fix the studs in addition to the simple strap fix of $30. Seriously who does this? I looked him in the eye and said do you think this is good work? Even after thoroughly combing this cluttered shop with my eagle eyes, I couldn't spot one. However, upon inquiring with the fellow behind the counter, he immediately whipped a sturdy one out of nowhere - I didn't even hear the "Accio!" This shoe repair isn't my neighborhood, it isn't even in my borough, yet it's my go-to. Living in NYC, you quickly realize the benefit of comfortable shoes. When your fashionable footwear wears down after months of parading around town in assortment of weather, you should drag 'em here. Their turnaround time is usually a week. That works for me (weekend drop-off/pick-up are most convent for me), so I can't comment on emergency re-heeling. They also fix broken bag straps and loose zippers. Very friendly and not too expensive. I'd recommend this shoe repair to anyone! Was going to buy a new shoe until I was referred to this little magical shoe repair shop and I must say the owner is really nice guy! He knew exactly what I wanted and he even accommodated me when I told him I needed the shoes two days later. Two days later, came to pick it up and both heels were all repaired and it was cleaned/polished all for $40! can't beat this price anywhere! This guy was shut down for a while due to a fire in the building. He is finally open again to my (and my boyfriend's) delight. We've been taking shoes here for a while, and not only do they do a great job but the man who works there is nice as can be! The thing that prompted me to finally write a review: his insurance covered the fire damage but not the loss of income - and they kept delaying the date when he'd be able to get in the building and restore his shop, and he was out of income for almost a year. Handbags Beware! I read all of the great reviews and brought two handbags here for cleaning. A lipgloss had broken in my purse so the lining needed cleaning, and the other bag was suede and had a quarter sized splotch of sticky material on it. He told me both wouldn't be a problem but I asked him to call me if there were issues. When I returned tonight to get them I was shocked that in both cases his solution was to PAINT over the stains because they wouldn't come out. My suede purse looks ridiculous and I would have rather kept the interior lining of the other purse stained or had it dyed - because now I have to worry that the paint will rub off on my wallet. He told me he could remove the paint but at that point I didn't want him to touch the bags again. He charged me $30 per bag. Next time I'll pony up the cash and take them to the Leather Spa in midtown. read more

As in the old Clairol Herbal Essences commercials, "YES! YES! YES! YES! Richard truly loves what he does and it shoes in his attitude and in his work. He repaired my Italian boots for $32. And when I say repaired, I mean that he brought them back from the dead; the boots were practically missing the heel on the right side and the bottoms were torn up to sh*t at the toes. I was ashamed of them but loved the snot out of them and now they look brand spanking new. Anyway, I also have brought two pairs of my boyfriend's dress shoes in to be resoled so he doesn't bag it on the pavement anymore when it rains. Kudos, Richard for the fantastic jobs on the soles of his shoes as well. He implanted "Goodyear" bottoms on the shoes. Ahhh, I knew the US manufactured something worth while! This is the best shoe repair spot in the city. When I go I bring him about 10-12 pair of expensive shoes at a time. The love that goes into bringing a pair of shoes back to life. You ask for a repair and he goes above and beyond and will fix any scuffs and even polish the the shoes. Absolutely horrid. My heel broke so I brought it to him, he "fixed" it, broke again the next day. He simply glued the broken heel, of course it will fall off. I went again and he fixed it again, broke off again. He blamed me for breaking the heel. He asked me "are you running in these heels or something?"... I couldn't believe what this guy said. I paid a lot of money for this guy to fix up my heel. I also wanted the shoe cleaned so he charged me extra but when I received the shoes it had the same stains and same dirt. Also I wanted the sole replaced and he simply glued on a thick piece of black leather on the soles. Are you serious? I couldn't fit into my shoes because he glued on a thick, cheap material that made the shoe smaller. I told him about not fitting, and only then he said "oh okay I take it off." After this experience I am afraid to go to any shoe mongers. All this man cared about was up charging and blaming the customer with cheap solutions to my shoes. read more

Unbelievable. I showed up at 5:30 PM on Dec 26 after taking the train from CT to GC. I knew they closed at 7 PM, so I was just hoping they would be able help me out. This guy is GREAT and has already proven he is my savior. Initially brought him a bag to clean because my favorite previously reviewed cobbler couldn't do it (sarcasm cough cough cough) and then later came back with the mangled shoes and the bag with the glue stains. When I brought in the first bag, the guy looked it at and automatically knew he could do it. What I didn't know then is I would receive my white leather well loved bag back and barely recognize it because it looked brand spanking new...like as good as it did when I was given it as a gift years ago. Yesterday I brought him the mangled shoes and the lovely bag with the glue spots after I almost had an episode in the little park near sullivan street in soho. He actually laughed when I showed him the rubber heels (thought it was so obvious that wooden ones which were there originally should have been put on!!) and will be putting back on wooden heels (ah ya!!!) As for the bag, he definitely can do that too and am sure both pieces will come back looking flawless. Will update when I get them back, And the guy who runs the place is a super sweetheart and makes silly jokes. What more could a girl ask for...craftsmanship and a nice person to boot?! I was going to Hector's and Elite, but last year I had a pair of Chanel ballet slippers and Hector charged me about $50 to dye and resole them (expensive, but usually he's good). When I picked up the shoes, they were resoled and he cleaned them BUT did not dye them. I walked out of the store, looked at them at home, and had to return to make sure that they dyed them. Meanwhile, a woman who wants a new heel built for her boot is chatting with Hector in Spanish (which I also speak, but I'm not Spanish or Hispanic), and she's bargaining him down to build the heel for her for $35 dollars. Enough. So this year, I decide to go to Elite Shoe Repair. I've had other things fixed and so has my boyfriend. The shoemaker dyed and resoled my Chanel shoes for less than Hector did, and they look great. He told me I can go to a party in my shoes :) I've also used Elite for leather soles and rubber soles, and to buy leather inserts. He's cheaper than Hector. Also, I've spoken to him in English and Spanish. I think he speaks Korean as well, but I'm not sure. So help out this neighborhood business, and grab a coffee/cookies at the shop a few doors down. read more

I just got three pairs of boots fixed for $37! $10 to reheel pair one, same for pair two, and pair three was in total disarray so it was $15. Tax was $2 or something. When I got the boots back it was like seeing old friends brought back to life. The repair man was a cute asian gentlemen who complimented me on the bag I carried my shoes in. It was a great discovery finding this shoe repair shop in Manhattan, on 10th Street just off Sixth Avenue. The quality of the work is excellent, the prices are very reasonable, and the owner is friendly, professional, fast and reliable. I recommend this shop very highly for shoe repair. We began taking our shoes to Elite Shoe Repair when we moved to New York in 1993. During the six years we lived in another city, we saved our repairs for trips to New York. Now that we've moved to the Lincoln Center area, we take the subway to Richard's shop. He's so friendly, always smiling. His work is fast, reasonably priced and absolutely perfect. He's kept shoes of mine looking new for at least as long as ten years, maybe more. I wouldn't dream of taking shoes, handbags or belts anywhere else.
