Great service! Hector has cobbled 3 pairs of heels and 2 pairs of boots of mine, each very clean. The lining of my knee-high leather boots was ripping and I had requested for that to be fixed, but it was not when I got it back. I would recommend for resoling/changing heel tips. I bought a pair of Chanel boots used and the soles were worn out and the leather heel had ripped. I knew it was going to be expensive to fix given that it had to be black leather and I wanted treads etc so I brought it to Hector's and they were so nice. The employee took her time to review the shoes and gave me a very fair price ($110) and told me the shoes would be ready soon after the Thanksgiving holiday. So far I have been impressed with the service and reasonable price. Update: picked up the shoes only 3 days later and they are so beautiful! They were conditioned as well. Very impressed. read more

When I say this place can literally do/fix anything, I mean it. My boots that were sufficiently too small, like I couldn't get them on, are now my fav shoes that also happen to fit great and feel great -- all thanks to Hector's (it took multiple stretches to make them finally fit me, but they never gave up + only charged me for one stretch! Sadly had a bad experience. Brought 2 suede shoes for polishing. They charged me 35 dollars each (70 total) and they way they brushed it / chemical they used ruined the shoe. I got no refund. I expected a basic apology but they didn't even do that. The lady was not apologetic nor did she really care. I've been going to Hector's for a decade now even though I've always lived either in the East Village or downtown below Canal. After trying several shoe repair shops all those years ago, I knew Hector did the best work at the best price. In my line of work as well I often take shoes to a cobbler, but my clients expect to pay Leather Spa level pricing and so I give them what they want so they can feel special. For myself personally, Hector provides better than Leather Spa services at half the cost. If you live downtown this is the only shoe repair shop you should be using! read more

I have a beautiful red lambskin jacket just purchased a couple months ago. My brother's cat peed on and around the pocket recently. I was devastated. It smelled strongly of urine and had dark stains all around the pocket. My cousin suggested Hector's. Juan worked some kind of magic! He got out most of the smell, removed the stains, and restored it to like-new condition! I discovered Hector's Shoe Repair when I was 18 years old and 20 years later they are still hands down the best shoe repair in the business. The craftsmanship of their work is really incomparable and their prices are on point, especially for the area! I have moved out of town but soon as I knew I had to be back in NY for work, I took a pair of boots to be taken in, due to the wide width of the calf size and not only were they symmetrically perfect but the contour of the shaft was perfect! I honestly don't trust any shoe repair except this incredible place. I also needed them by a certain time and not only did they make the time on short notice but had them done a day earlier. Simply the best! I've been bringing my designer shoes here for years and am always pleased with the quality of work. I've had new heels and soles put on countless pairs (they even have the red rubber soles for Louboutin's). I always recommend that my friends bring designer shoes here before wearing them. It's worth the $40 to preserve the life of your shoes, and you will feel so much more confident walking in heels when they grip the ground. There have been a couple occasions when taps fall off or soles come off within a couple of weeks, and they always fix them for me again, free of charge. I've been coming to Hector since I was in college taking a course in shoemaking. My teacher recommended Hector's for finishing up the soles of the shoes and he's been my go to ever since. They do almost everything here, from shoes to handbags. I had an amazing Coach bag I needed recoloring and they did an amazing job for a good price. I've also had shoes stretched and boots extended at the calf. The prices are reasonable and the service is always professional. Finding a good cobbler can be harder than finding the perfect macaron. All of my favorite flats have been nearing the brink of death = sad feet. I also had some shoes with fresh leather soles that were screaming for a rubber sole before hitting the pavement. I've been hesitant to bring them to just any neighborhood cobbler since I already spent a pretty penny on my Marc by Marc Jacobs, Repetto, etc. I read positive reviews for Hector from different sources. I brought in four pairs of flats that needed new soles and/or heels and one pair of new boots to be stretched on a Thursday afternoon. One pair of flats also needed stitching on the side. They said they would be ready by Saturday which is impressive. Although, I didn't have time to pick them until the following Saturday. I was very happy with the results. The black shoes were nicely polished. The pale colored shoes looked the same as when I dropped them off. This place isn't cheap so if you want something really cheap, you may want to do more research. I also noticed they have a good selection of shoe accessories, including leather insoles. I hope the investment in maintenance will last a while... read more

I came here after a recommendation from my coworker who has really nice, designer shoes. I figured she was the best person to ask about who to trust with shoe repair! That was definitely the case, I've had great luck with this place. After a bottomless brunch, I ended up impulse buying heeled black leather boots at a thrift store for $10. Both soles immediately began to peel back and detach and I just could not get them to stay. I brought them in and they were ready in less than a week! It was $40 for the soles to be repaired. I didn't realize that they would also put in brand new, very nice vibram soles on the heel and front of my boots for such a low price! It was a great surprise, my boots look great and these soles will last much longer. They also cleaned and polished the boots for free while they were repairing! I took in another pair of thrifted leather booties that have a huge split down the back seam above the heel. It was $45 for them to add in a leather panel on both boots and sew it into the seam to repair it-- I can't wait to get them back next week! read more

One thing I like about Hector is he is very honest. I brought in 4 pairs of shoes. For one of the pairs he looked at them and said, "unless those have sentimental value, they're not worth saving." Thank you for saving me. I have been packing for my trip to Paris and have just discovered that a pair of boots that I had not worn in YEARS need their heels repaired. I have brought a few shoes here and they did a good job. They aren't very friendly but I don't care as long as they do a good job. WELL, that all changed when I brought in my Balenciaga bag. I brought it in to be cleaned, it wasn't dirty, but I like to take care of my bags and keep them in good shape so I dropped it off. When I came back, the bag looked good. However, as soon as I wore it, BLACK INK started getting all over my clothes. I was wearing a white top at the time and it totally ruined my white top. I ran back to the store (this was in a matter of an hour, mind you) and showed him my shirt. He said he would fix it right away, not to worry. So I left my bag with him again. When I picked the bag up a few days later, I brought it home, tested to see if the ink would come off on a paper towel and it did. Again. Essentially he used the wrong polish and ruined (truly, I couldn't wear it with anything except a black dress and even then....) my $2,500 bag. Long story short: DO NOT BRING YOUR EXPENSIVE BAGS HERE! I brought it another place and it took them two tries but they ultimately fixed it. Hectors is close to my apartment but now I go super out of my way to drop off my bag and shoes because I will never bring my things back to them. read more

I visited Hector's on a whim - I had a pair of boots that I loved the style of, but of course they didn't fit quite right. I decided they'd fit better if I put in a zipper up the back. The first place I visited quoted me a figure more than the boots cost. The second place refused to do it and said they would put in laces instead. So as I was walking by Hector's I decided to stop in to see what they would say. Hector's put in the zippers for a reasonable price and the boots look fantastic! They also put in a leather flap under the zippers so they didn't pinch the skin, a thoughtful detail I hadn't thought of. Since then, I've brought in 2 pairs of boots to be resoled, 1 pair of flats, and a bag where the leather had split. They fixed all with an extremely short turnaround (once on the same day I brought it in, although I hadn't expected to have them returned until 3 days later). For one pair, they recommended the cheapest option (rubber soles), and didn't try to pressure me into replacing the original soles (leather soles), though I ended up getting the leather soles anyway. Their work is well done (and if you have any concerns about their work, they will make sure you are happy) and reasonably priced. Pretty much perfect - my only regret is that I've now fixed all the shoes that needed work so I won't be seeing them for a while. read more

I got referred to this place by my shoemaking teacher, Emily Putterman. And of course, I trusted her because she is one of the most known cobblers in NY! anyways, I brought a pair of shoes that I made to be soled and heeled and also a pair of boots that I had to be repaired. The heels of said boots had been worn down to the metal =/ guess I was stomping around in them too much. They're my favorites and I was sad because my excessive stomping around the city had ruined them. Everyone is very friendly (and of course it also helps if you are friendly from the beginning). They took my shoes and wrote a ticket, and gave me the other half. Hector was going on vacation that week so he asked me when I needed them by, since soling and heeling usually takes a week or so. I said I needed them pretty soon for class (class is sunday, I dropped them off monday), but its okay if he couldnt do it by then). I paid half for a deposit and was off. A DAY later, they called me and said they were ready. Man, was I delighted. They took care of my shoes right away. I guess it also helps if you are a friendly somewhat attractive young girl though lol. So, in the end, I walked out with my fav. boots looking almost new again and my own shoes soled and heeled :) I'll def be going back to them for any of my shoe repairs need. read more

They did a bad job fixing a pair of my girlfriends heels... the heel that was supposed to be fixed got loose the first time she wore them. I went back and they complained it was her fault... Guess what Hector, it became loose after walking one block. Whoever was at the counter accepted them back with grimace, which really annoyed me. I picked them up a few days later and guess what, once again the heel became loose after a few blocks. Last time I checked refastening a heel should not be that difficult. After trying many NYC cobblers who did crappy work, a friend turned me on to Hector's. Hector's is the real deal, guys. They can handle some tricky jobs on your favorite shoes. It is not cheap (though not ridiculously priced either) and they do very good work. I've brought in heels, flats, boots. They do it all! If you're just getting a shine, maybe go someplace cheaper. But if you want shoe soles/heels to be reinforced or fixed, leather straps re-attached, or any serious shoe rehab done this is the spot. They brought a pair of suede boots back from the dead for me. I loved those boots so much that I wore them constantly and wore them out. The final insult was wearing them in a muddy corn maze. I was embarrassed to bring them in to Hector. When I picked them up a few days later they looked like new. They got all the mud off, had the suede perfectly clean, rebuilt the heels and reinforced the soles. I loved Hector before. But I really love them now. For a reasonable price, I'll get many more seasons out of my beloved boots. read more

I went to Hector because I read the great reviews and needed new rubber heels for my favorite Bass boots. I asked him to replace the plastic heels with rubber, but not to mess with the stitching on the sole of boot. He told me he'd remove the plastic heel and attach a rubber one. He charged $40, which seemed steep, but worthwhile for my favorite boots! They seemed fine, but after a month of wear, the heel started to split off and the sole started to peel off from the body of the leather boot. He apparently undid the original stitching and GLUED everything back together. I plan to go back and complain, but I am assuming that my boots are ruined because the original stitching is removed. Sure, he can glue them again, which will get me by for another month until they start to peel apart. I paid almost $200 for them and the style is discontinued (plus, the boots are in great condition, aside from the worn heel). I am devastated, to say the least. read more

Happy, returning customer! I had another old pair of flats that were literally falling apart at the seams. (...What can I say, I walk for miles or I bike in any of my shoes.) Before I brought it in for "diagnosis," I could tell the repair wouldn't be doable or it'd be for a high price --- essentially it'd be like reconstructing shoes. That's how bad they were. The lining, the bottom soles, and the inner soles were immensely worn out. Six days later, my flats are LIKE NEW. Such an amazing job! A $50 craft that was worth every penny. I regret I didn't take a before & after photo, but I'll have to keep that concept in mind for my next battered pair. read more

I had the soles replaced on a pair of boots last February. $60 later, I found my beautiful, black Michael Kors boots were given a THICK, unattractive sole, with WHITE thread. It looked so insanely industrial, but I hoped that maybe they'd at least last for another year or two. Let me remind you. I SPENT $60 to have these fixed. I put them into storage a month later and I've been wearing them for two weeks now, and my socks get SOAKED at any hint of moisture on the ground. I have never spent that much money on a shoe repair (it was a third of the original cost of the boot!), and it may have lasted two months. read more
