While staying at the Westin in Greenville, I walked the 3 blocks to a local attraction, Falls Park, close by to Rainer's where I stopped in for a quick lunch. I love the atmosphere, the art on the walls, the eclectic table settings and even the "No cell phone zone-- text only please" request on the menu. I had the Not So Plain Mixed Greens Salad: a bowlful of spinach leaves, carrots, red peppers, cucumbers and more with "Mama's Dressing" which was chunky and delicious. The Peach Smoothie was green tea based and very tasty (I had mine made with cream for 25 cents extra.) They also have a neat selection of sodas, teas and chips and I had an obscure extra dry Ginger Ale (I'm ginger obsessed.) I think the prices are good for the product. My meal was $11.03. The only negative I have to say about the place is that my salad took somewhere around 15 minutes to get (I was starving so it felt longer). However, I've always worked in the hospitality industry and sometimes a wait is worth a non-commercial, home made meal. 2 thumbs up. read more

Very nice place for lunch. I had the Green salad with a scoop of chicken salad on top. I think it was the "step it up salad". Salad was excellent, very fresh with different varieties of lettuce (not iceberg) with tomatoes, broccoli, bell peppers, mushrooms & carrots. "Mom's" Dressing sort of a mix of French and balsamic, very tasty. Came with a shortbread Rosemary cookie, yum! Came here for the first time today since moving to Greenville, and I couldn't have been happier. The Reuben panini was the best I've ever had in my life. The owner Betty came out to greet us and talk to us and added such a nice touch to the meal. I'll definitely be back. read more

The food was awesome and the presence was so appealing. I had the house salad with chicken and the house dressing. I wanted to lick the plate. My husband had turkey on rye with homemade slaw. He loves slaw but picky. He loved their slaw. We topped it off with homemade sweet potato cake for me and home made apple pie for him. At 9:45, we slide on over to their jazz venue. The Whobblers and Wanda Johnson put the icing on the cake. read more

I wanted to like the place because of the band playing but even great music can't make up for lackluster service and a staff that seemed to be in a state of frenzy with every patron (which wasn't many) that entered. They over charge for cheap drinks and can't even back it up with atmosphere & service. Downtown Greenville has too many options to waste your time here. Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch on a Saturday. Delicious, super-fresh food that doesn't try too hard to be precious. We were a table of three, and we had the French dip, the fruit salad and the man bowl. We all were impressed. I couldn't believe how each and every bite of the fruit salad was better than the last. You can tell they are very picky about the produce they select. And "Mom's" salad dressing was on another level. Of course they won't tell you what's in it. When you first come in, the setting is cute and artsy (the only reason this isn't a one star review.) The wait was about 10 minutes with only 2 customers in the room. The food, while nicely presented, is mediocre at best. Everything is extremely salty or overpowering sweet. Employees were in the kitchen loudly talking about how another employee was fired and couldn't cook for anything. Disappointed with my experience here. read more

My niece and I had lunch today. She a salad with a dressing that was so outstanding we ask if they sold it but to our disappointment answer was no. I had the beef dip sandwich with side of black eye peas,peppers etc. both exceeded my expectations. The coconut cake was very good. We drove up from Anderson to eat here and was not disappointed. Great food and service. The bread pudding was exquisite, I ordered it a la mode and the ice cream quality was great too. The strawberry mousse cake was recommended and we tried it but honestly weren't very impressed with it. It wasn't bad but didn't have a very good texture. The coffee was possibly the best part of the experience. We ordered salted caramel machiatto lattes and were very impressed. Great atmosphere with lots of local artwork. read more

We went to Rainer's for an event called "Soul Sunday". There was an amazing gospel group and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. They have cool art and a nice bar. I would definitely go back for another Soul Sunday. read more

Rainer's music venue is a hidden gem. The music is always wonderful and staff nice. HOWEVER, on Saturday the music plays until midnight. We walked in literally at 11:45pm and the young girls working there asked for the $10 cover. I said "for 15 min" and they confirmed. Now, I should have asked for a Manager but turned around and left and that exchange is still in my head. Now, note to Manager, if you could have gained $45 in revenue from three cocktails (2 of us, so could have been more in that 15 min time), wouldn't you do so? It didn't make sense to us. At some point, you all have to say at XX:XX time at night, no more cover should be charged. Get smart about trying to gain business in Greenville where the residents options are increasing daily! read more

i more recently went to Rainer's and found the food to be fantastic and memorable to say the least. i ordered a tuna salad sandwich and a side of jello with pudding and i was extremely pleased with the taste. One of my favorite coffee shops. We have been there many many times. They have great sandwiches, soups and deserts. I had the best strawberry cheesecake at this place. Their staff is awesome :) and the food comes quickly as well. Nothing to complain :) read more

Food was excellent. Paid $62 for four sandwiches and a beer they wanted to charge an additional $1.75 for additional crackers for the Palmetto dip appetizer. Nickel and dimeing will impact future dining decision. I think they had good margins on the sandwiches already. read more

My husband and I were looking for something quick, easy, and delicious and that's exactly what we got at this adorable little cafe. Our salads and desserts were generously sized and we couldn't have asked better service. I was berated by their manager for not knowing that they have a 21 and older policy (it is not stated anywhere on their website). I wanted to take my 15-year old daughter in (she is a budding musician) so she could experience the artist that evening. The manager actually told me "I don't know you" and dismissed me because she had never seen me as a patron. I had actually visited three times this year and spent a good deal of money on their over-priced drinks. But because she "didn't know me" she only talked to my friend, who she noticed and "was willing" to give us a refund on our reservation. Otherwise she would not have. My friend and I will never go again. This is a snobby overpriced place managed by overly self-important people who treat their customers horribly. Save yourself a lot of money and go to another venue to listen to great music. There are several to choose from in Greenville. read more

I was disappointed to have to rank Rainer's so poorly but the service was frankly unacceptable. A group of us had gotten together at Rainer's for a celebratory cocktail. It was a quiet Wednesday evening with two people at the bar. Their happy hour takes $5 off their cocktails between 5-7. Unfortunately when it came time for the bartender/ waitress to tally up drinks, she could not figure out the number of drinks in our group. A remainder of drinks were unaccounted for, to which she herself admitted that they had been inappropriately tallied. However , she still ended up over charging our group Instead of trying to fix the issue. One of our colleagues was so fed up with her inability to solve a simple calculation, they just paid for drinks that were never consumed by us. Even at the end, the waitress could not figure out what was wrong. She was just relieved that the problem was solved by someone else paying the bill without so much as an apology. While this speakeasy has a lovely area to lounge in and a decent selection of liquors and cordials, we will not be returning to Rainer's as we were unfairly treated. If you go in a group, it is definitely more worthwhile to just open an individual tab to avoid a potentially ridiculous and frustrating issue read more
