Worst customer service experience and BY THE MANAGER, non the less. Booked 2 weeks in advance for my 6 yr olds birthday. Would not seat a party of 20 without having 7 families there at the same time (not going to happen), then was going to give our table away because we were missing a few people!! Manager came over to "solve the issue" and had more attitude than the actual high schoolers running the counter. Female manager then proceeded to YELL at the elderly family in my party over us moving 2 extra chairs to the table while the entire half of the restaurant by us was empty. Very disappointed. I expected the prices to be high because of it being a theme restaurant. However the food was nothing special. Which I found rather disappointing. I will say their appetizers are quite tasty(the fried pickles are delicious). The servers were nice but slow. This location was very chaotic. The seating was very crammed in and there is hardly any spec between tables. Also their are very long wait to times to be seated so I recommend going online and checking in about an hour before you want to eat. We had been to this restaurant in the past and we weren't all that excited about the hype, to tell you the truth! But we had some friends visiting from Scotland & we wanted to take them somewhere very "different" from what they might be use to! So we drove an hour from our home in Canton, Mi and went to the huge "Canterbury Village" (which I did a review of awhile back already lol)...& then decided to eat at the much talked about and much hype about, "Rainforest Cafe'" up in the Great Lakes Crossing mall! We were pleasantly surprised! The wait was not more than 10 minutes while we all enjoyed looking at the small souvenir items in the little souvenir shop attached to the restaurant! We were promptly seated and our friends were amazed at the array of jungle sounds and "real looking" jungle animals! We sat down and suddenly the room felt as though it was shaking in a real storm in the Rainforest! The elephants started to make their loud trunk sounds, the monkeys, Orangutans chatted loudly and the lightening went on and off as it actually felt as though the room was "shaking, from a real tropical rain forest! Our friends were amazed and delighted! Then came our food and again, it was awesome ! The guys had burgers and we had a great salad with lots of crunchies on top and some french fries that were awesome too! I must say...though, the best part of my friends and my meals, were our "smoothies"!!! Oh my gosh!,they were "to die for!"l we had these mango passion type smoothies and Ive never tasted anything better in my parched mouth! All in all it was a great time had by everyone! I have been to this location several times. It is always fun for kids to go and see the animals and experience the rainstorm every thirty minutes. However, my suggestion is to not go hungry and just share appetizers. The food is just way too expensive for pretty mediocre cuisine. Today I had soup that was ok tasting and lukewarm. I think that sums up how I feel about dining here. Will I come back to see the kids in my life light up over the atmosphere? Absolutely. Will I ever spend way too much on the food again? I have eaten here MANY times over the past decade or so. I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. We have always had good food, excellent service and a fun time. Of course it is great for kids' birthdays with the Volcano dessert and souvenir cups and all the fun things for them to look at. We went today because what better thing is there to do on a rainy first day of summer vacation than go to the mall? The fish tanks were sparkling clean and even had lots of new fish. My son could not decide between coconut shrimp or a guacamole burger. The server was so nice, she resolved the issue by giving us an appetizer portion of coconut shrimp even though there is nothing like that on the menu. My tomato basil soup and China Island chicken salad were delicious with enough to bring some salad home. The standard Rainforest burger is even made special by having an onion ring instead of just raw onion. Along with some fries it was enough to fill the bottomless pit AKA my other teenage son. In the past we have dined with family members that are VERY picky eaters. An 88 yr old uncle, a vegan SIL, and my health-nut ("white sugar will kill you") brother. Everyone found something they liked and enjoyed their meal. I really cannot figure out why so many people are dissing this place. I will admit it is pricey. That being said, if you know your wallet can only handle Kerby's that day then don't walk into a place like Rainforest Cafe. We go only once or twice a year for that very reason. read more

Ordered taste of the island which the menu lists scallops. Apparently they no longer serve scallops- I should have sent it back as when the bill came they still charged menu price. Additionally, my son ordered creole Mac and cheese which came with tomatoes even though they weren't listed as an ingredient. Asked for adjustment due to the no scallops and was given a small discount. Unfortunately, we won't be going back. Avoid this gimmicky place with no mastery of their menu. Rainforest Cafe is a restaurant highly geared towards families. Food is pricey, but generally pretty good. Being a fan of theme parks, I really enjoy the atmosphere in this place. There's always something to look at. It's not on par with the one in Orlando at Disney, but it's still pretty good. It was in the middle of the afternoon, so it wasn't very crowded. They made a point to seat people in areas with good views (close to the animals), which I appreciated. Our server must have been having a bad day or something. She just didn't seem very happy at all. Service was still good though, so I can't complain. I ordered the bbq chicken wrap with the rice. Good tasting, good portion size. Anyways, this place is ALWAYS a hit with kids 10 and under. If you want to be treated rudely, definitely come here. I made a reservation for 6 people a month in advance. A friend came into town and wanted to join us for lunch. Never thought it would be such an ORDEAL. The manager refused to accommodate an extra person. Said I'd have to get a table for 8 & they were booked. I might have to wait 15 minutes. I had no problem waiting the extra time. Then she said it may not be possible. So my husband gave up his seat so our niece and the extra guest could eat. By that time, everyone was feeling badly for my husband who was forced to sit on a bench outside the restaurant. While eating there were MANY EMPTY tables,including tables for 8 that never had any guests at them. We would have eaten and left long before anyone occupied those tables. Our waitress was ok, didn't get one of the orders right, food was mediocre at best and high priced. I'll give the atmosphere a thumbs up for kids but that's about it. The manager was unbelievably rude, not only to me but to people who were asking if there were any available non reserved tables. I guess it's more important to Rainforest Cafe to have empty tables waiting, and I'm talking at least an hour's worth of empty tables, instead of accommodating paying customers. $200 for burgers, a kids' meal & chocolate milk is pretty pricey in my book. Wont' ever go back. AND, there were pieces of fruit on the floor from whoever had the table before us. Even the 6 year old was grossed out. Not worth the time and money. read more

The food was overpriced despite it being almost empty the wait time was terrible. Maybe 45 minutes. Everyone else's food was good I got the fish taco's. That comes with 3 tacos and some really really soupy beans. The fist taco was quite good...the 2nd tasted super fishy and had an aftertaste like dirt(I was a curious child what can I say) once i got home I washed my face and hands to try to get rid of the lingering smell. we went to Lego land and the mall from out of town my whole family ... I have a 1 year old so obviously had a stroller and she finally had fallen asleep .. we were looking to have lunch here come to find out strollers were not allowed ????? what kind of restaurant does not allow strollers especially in a mall ?! of course there will be strollers ... but my handicapped sister had a scooter the same size so that was allowed ??? what if someone had a baby who could not yet sit in a high chair ?? or a sleeping newborn in the stroller ??? they just expect for the family to just hold the baby in their lap the entire time ???? why would you not accommodate a "family" restaurant for strollers it makes absolutely no sense .... they lost out on a ton of money that's for sure ... read more

My first and only visit to Rainforest Cafe prior to today was when I was about 12 (so nearly two decades ago) and in Gurnee, IL. I hardly remember anything other than the indoor "thunderstorm" and leaves hanging from the ceiling, but I do remember thinking it was the coolest restaurant I've ever been to. Now, as an adult, the place was still neat but the creepy animatronic animals, heads on the walls, pneumatic alligator near the entrance and average at best food had me feeling a bit different about it this time. Not the worst food I've had, but no where near the best. It was more than worth it, though, to see my daughter's reaction to everything. read more

I do enjoy coming here at times but the service here is lacking. Bringing kids here is always a joy with all the animals but make sure you are not super super hungry as food wait times even when not busy can and will take up to an hour. Servers are almost non existent and will bring you the things you need when your meal is almost finished. 3 stars for the kid entertainment and drinks but this place could use some extra help. read more

The front house staff were all working very hard to keep things running smoothly. BUT... It was a mad house of complete chaos. Tables were sitting for 15 minutes before even being greeted. The food was awful. No seasoning, no flavor, and dry. My husband and I got the same dish (Ahi Tacos & stir-fry veggies), yet they tasted completely different. That's just creepy. The menu offered so many different foods and drinks, and we ended up trying the appetizers plate and then the coconut shrimp platter! We got the Panama punch and the watering holes drinks. Well, it's a good thing they have have a unique atmosphere because that's about all they have. Could get the same quality and type of food at plenty of other places for a quarter of the cost. The ambience is great, I'll give them that. Lots of green, water effects, and lighting setups make it somewhere you could sit and have a relaxing meal... If the prices, service, and other patrons didn't stress you out. My advice? Find someone with a screened porch and order takeout from your favorite local diner during a light rain. This place is pretty awesome. It's always extremely clean. Our waitress Heather was really nice and she made sure we had everything we needed. I love their shrimp, it's so good. I had their strawberry mojito and it was pretty good. If you don't have the Landry's card you should get one because you can use it at any Landry's restaurant for points to get money off. They also have a military discount too. My only problem is that we were standing there waiting for no reason, there was no one at the receptionist area where you walk in. read more

Like most, the ambiance of this place is fantastic! Although a little outdated, but still very enjoyable. Our waiter was AWESOME! We went with our almost 2 year old son who was just fine. until the "storm" started. After that he wouldn't let go of his clutch on me. Refused to eat or drink. And wouldn't take his eyes off the elephant. The waiter said he sees it multiple times a day. Either kids his age love it or they are terrified. Just keep that in mind when going with younger kids. The facts: Location: Sucks that its within a mall! We went around 2pm on a Sunday. We didn't have to wait to be seated. But it took longer to find a parking spot than to be seated. Ambiance: Very cool! Aside from the animatronics being a bit outdated, zero complaints! Food: Very mediocre and very over priced! Between 3 of use we ordered 1 appetizer, 2 adult meals and 1 child's meal w/ child's apple juice. 1 soda and a mixed drink. Our appetizer was lukewarm, my garlic butter sauce was SUPER bland and my husbands steak was well done/burnt instead of medium rare. Total was $127! So not worth it!! Service: Zero complaints! Our waiter was very nice and very apologetic for our food taking so long to come out. Bathroom: DISGHUSTING! Dirty seats. Toilet paper all over the floor. Soap globs all over the sink...gross! I really hate to leave a poor review but my goodness the food was awful. I waited a little over a year to try this place for a second time and I can't believe that it's gotten worse. Have they heard of seasoning? I ordered the Rainforest Burger which is basically a classic burger with an onion ring on top. I figured a simple burger might be a safe choice to order. Yikes, did I regret it. 6 hours has passed and I can still taste the horrible taste in my mouth and memory. The meat was unseasoned and undercooked. It had a very funny taste like it was frozen right before they served it. $16 for a frozen-fresh unseasoned burger. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp and it was also terrible. Appetizers as well were all frozen-fresh. You can easily tell nothing is made fresh in house. The waitress was super nice and I didn't want to complain to her. She seemed overwhelmed with the tables she was serving. This place is all about the atmosphere for kids. It's a real shame their food is so terrible. If the food was good it would be a great destination and I wouldn't mind paying more and waiting more than usual. Guys, please revamp the ingredients and way the food is prepared. I wonder why, as I'm writing this on a Saturday at 12:30pm, the current wait time is 0 minutes. Maybe because you're waiting an hour for food that is not only tasteless, but cold AND overpriced!!! My wife, two kids, and I ordered four entrees, an appetizer, two alcoholic beverages and two sodas. The fish and chips was more breading than fish with the fries being dried out and rubbery. My daughter's pasta had no flavor. My wife's taco salad was pretty small, the chicken was cold, and it had zero flavor. Her Bloody Mary was all Tabasco sauce and didn't even come with one freaking olive. But good news, the appetizer was good, and my son seemed to enjoy his cheeseburger. To summarize, 3 out of the 5 plates were absolute crap, and our bill was $130. Holy s***. So yeah, you're paying for the creepy tigers staring at you and roaring at random times making the kids at the table next to you scream and almost pee their pants.
