I showed up right at closing time like a woman on a mission -- I had an emergency (yes, scone emergencies are real) because my friends were taking a painfully early flight and I needed to send them off with something that said, "Bon voyage, but with carbs." Not only was I greeted with kindness, but I was offered a delightful selection of scones like it was still mid-morning! The service? Superb. Compassionate. Possibly saintly. The shop itself is also a total gem -- cozy, welcoming, and full of great energy. It's the kind of place where you want to linger, sip your coffee slowly, and pretend you're a local character in a charming indie film. The next morning, I enjoyed the outside with a fresh brew and a scone, soaking in the morning peace and feeling very pleased with myself. I follow them on Instagram and found out that Alex the manager had Dahlia tubers he was willing to share. I enjoyed talking with him about how he learned to grow them from his father. Even when I arrived by bike, it took me a few minutes to locate it. Their signs are small. Glad I found it though. The barista's and staff here are friendly and helpful. They don't make the exact drink that I prefer, but they did manage to concoct something that actually tasted better. Next time I'm there I'll have to ask what they did so that I can whip it up at home. They have a good deal of sandwiches and pastries in addition to their drink menu, and plenty of seating space. Walking up to the counter you're greeted with a friendly welcoming smile from a Corner Grind employee. While taking your order there are two large chalkboards behind the counter to choose a drink, a breakfast item, or lunch items. Then you have two small chalkboards describing this week or month special, one to your left describing the new monthly specials for drinks. To your right a board filled with the exciting new lunch specials for the week which include two sandwiches or salads and a soup of the week. Once you've ordered your drink or food, can to chooses to sit outside at a table, in a relaxing wooden chair, inside at the countertop, or table. To receive your drink or food you're called up to the counter to get your order. Taking your first bite out of your Italian sandwich your taste buds are met with an explosion of flavor. Filled with so much meat the tomato and lettuce are overflowing on the sides of the soft french baguette. Even if the extension of business hours were just for another hour Corner Grind would have a lot of business for that hour due to the loyal customer base. The vibe is old school coffee shop where you can see the regulars hang out in the morning for their daily coffee. Grabbed some freshly baked glazed donut holes and a couple of long johns.
