    Butter Chicken
    sanjana m.

We tried an Indian spot called Raj's Kitchen in LIC and ordered the dahi puri and butter chicken. The service was quick and efficient, and the server was incredibly sweet! The papadi chat wasn't your typical version -- it had a fun twist! It struck the perfect balance between sweet and savory and really grew on me. 7/10. The butter chicken was absolutely worth every dime. It reminded me of what I've had back in India -- not too sweet, not too spicy, and no artificial coloring, so it wasn't that overly red version you often see. 9/10. This was more of a homemade-style butter chicken with less cream, so if you're looking for the richer, creamier "restaurant-style" dish, this might not be your ideal match. But if you're craving something more authentic and comforting, definitely give it a shot!

    Vegetable Samosa

The vegetable samosas were great and the staff told us they were baked fresh in house. The tandoori chicken was decent though a little dry. The lamb rogan josh was good but I felt like the lamb could've been cooked a bit more and the curry was ever so slightly watered down. The garlic naan was top notch though!

Raj's Indian food has some of the best bang for your buck for a lunch. For ~$11 you can get a lunch deal of 2 curries, white rice and plenty of naan. Plenty of curries to choose from between veg and non veg options. Naan and rice were both fresh and fluffy. Samosa chat was delish was well. Everything was flavorful, fresh and filling. Plenty of seating inside too, overall pretty clean.

Update 10/2024: veg lunch special is $9.50 ($10.30 post-tax), choose 2 out of 5 rotating dishes + rice + naan. Chicken and chicken-veg are the same price. Doesn't have the same steam-table efficiency of the past but still served up within 10 minutes. The mixed veg was described as "peas, cauliflower, and paneer" but was actually mostly potato and onion - no paneer at all. Tofu chili also had a lot of onion but was tasty and spicy. I ordered brown rice but was given white rice. Veg portions were small.

Ordered Raj's for takeout since we were craving Indian. Took a while to come. We got samosas and onion bhaji for appetizers. The samosas were huge and actually delicious. The onion bjaji dough was undercooked... i should've read the other reviews that said the same thing. We could not eat these. We also got garlic naan, butter chicken, and sag paneer. None of these dishes had any spice to them. They were super plain. Probably wouldn't order from here again.

Star of the doordash order! Worth a reorder!!

Nice biryani. Extremely flavorful and well prepared. Will definitely order again. Butter chicken was a bit too sweet. Lacks that masala and spice factor which authenticates it. Food was very good overall and great value for money

    Malai Kofta Curry, Naan Bread
    Mosa H.

Lots of food for cheap but leaves some things to be desired. We ordered the butter chicken and malai kofta. The butter chicken was pretty decent but tasted like a tomato soup with spices after a while. The medium also wasn't spicy at all. The malai kofta was on the sweeter side and the dumplings were delicious! We were so hungry and still had half our meals as leftovers. We also got the naan, which was disappointing because it only came with one piece. Otherwise, it was perfectly buttery and garlicky. Pickup takes a while so I would add 10-15 minutes to your estimated pickup time.

Raj's Indian Kitchen is okay! I ordered the 2 vegetable combo which comes with rice and a side of naan for $10. What I love about this is place are the portions and the price! Probably one of the most affordable restaurants in the area. The flavor itself was average and a bit disappointing for Indian cuisine. I had a chili tofu and dal tadka. The dal tadka was pretty flavorless and had very little lentils within. Lentils are one of my favorite foods so I was really sad about this! However, the chili tofu was the saving grace of this dish. It was flavorful and had good spice! Having had a really mediocre (kinda bad) dal and a nice tofu, I'm going to have to give this place an average rating. The staff was really sweet and super quick! Also the restaurant seems more like a to-go place, but there is seating if you want to sit there. Overall, the food is kinda average and bland. But it's my first time here, so maybe it was an off day! I would return to try something else and due to the friendly staff :)

    Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala

Came here for a late lunch on a Sunday and we ordered the saag paneer and chicken tikka masala with an extra side of garlic naan. The saag paneer had great flavor and is one of my go to's. Chicken tikka masala was pretty standard and garlic naan was so fresh. Service was amazing, we called ahead to ask if they had AC during a heat wave and they turned the AC on for us before we got there. We also got a free dessert on the house, it was a kind of sweet soaked donuts? Would highly recommend and return.

Came to Raj's after a recommendation from a friend to try their seekh kebab and although the food was solid, I was definitely disappointed by how long it took me to get my food. After ordering in person for take out, me and my friend waited almost 30 minutes in store before getting our rather small order (2 chicken kebab, 1 lamb kebab, with garlic naan) People who ordered after us and sat down to eat in the store got their food before we did -- regardless I'm going to stick with ordering via delivery if I do come back ! I thought the naan and chicken kebab were sure hits -- the garlic naan bread was fluffy, had just the right amount of flavor, and complemented the chicken when eating them together . I thought the chicken was cooked perfectly, very juicy and tender. The lamb on the other hand, seemed pretty dry which its saving grace was the terrific green sauce that was provided with the kebabs.

Ordered for the Indian food for the first time through grubhub. Delivery was fast. The food was very tasty and still warm when I received it. My favorites dish was the vegetable samosa with the green spicy sauce. Took a star away because I only placed an order for one rice and one garlic bread, got 2 rices instead.

Ordered pickup from here and had a great experience. They have a few tables for dine-in, but mostly this appears to operate as a takeout spot. The chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi and garlic naan were all great. Definitely will order from here again soon!

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! Ordered: Masala Chai ($4.50)- this tasted authentic, was nicely spiced, and wasn't too sweet. I only wish the cup was bigger. Steamed momo ($12+)- I like how you have the option to mix and match. We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! I've been thinking about this meal ever since I left the restaurant. You don't want to skip this place.

We tried the following: Chili Paneer (dry) Chili Veg Momos Cheese Samosas Papad We've tried all of these dishes in other restaurants before (excluding the cheese samosas), and they're hit or miss... I'm happy to report that ALL of these dishes were an explosion of flavor and goodness in each bite! My new favorite is the Cheese Samosa. As a cheese lover, this dish was beyond satisfying. I barely had time to enjoy my dinner before feeling pressured to finish. To make matters worse, as we were preparing to leave, I went to use the restroom and was told by the manager that it was closed. I was polite throughout the evening, yet I felt like I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. To be fair, the food itself was excellent. However, great food cannot make up for poor hospitality. Based on my experience, I would not recommend dining at this location. The behavior of the staff was unacceptable and fell far below the standard of service I would expect from a professional restaurant.

I got the lamb samosa (which is not very gamey if you don't like lamb), along with the chicken korma (breast meat is on the dry side, and the korma is more savory than nutty), along with the kheer (rice pudding) which I liked a lot due to having texture from the nuts and not being too sweet. I tried my friend's malai kofta (the croquettes are a bit sweet, and I liked the sauce more than my korma) and rasmalai (which is sweeter than the kheer, but not so sweet).
