    Black cod lunch

Stopped in for lunch and got the Black Cod Misozuke Teishoku . Everything was amazing . The space is very clean , bright and fun. Would definitely recommend. Our server was great and helpful as well .

Rakuya was such a gem to dine at! First of all this place def gets packed so as walk-ins we were surprised but once we sat down to eat it was clear why. We had a short wait of about 15 mins around rush hour time . The menu is large and the sushi and drinks were absolutely delicious. The Chu toro nigiri was so good! We also tried their ramen and drinks and there were no complaints there either! The ambience is amazing as it takes you out of DuPont and into an authentic Japanese wooden themed / designed space! The waiters are also friendly, polite and able to help with questions on the menu or selections.

I love Rakuya, it is always such a hit and exactly what I'm in the mood for. I came with two friends and we had a great time. We got to the restaurant before our reservation and ordered drinks at the bar. It's a mid-sized bar where you can order food or drinks, and the bartender was very nice. When we got to our table we split the tuna tartar, which was a good sized portion. It comes with a side salad, and gherkin pickles, which are surprising additions and while good, aren't necessary in my opinion. But the tuna was very good. For entrees I got the Tokyo Dash with udon noodles and chicken, and it is my absolute favorite dish. It's a HUGE portion that you can easily take home for leftovers. My friends got the Tan Tan ramen (which doesn't have broth) and sushi. Both spoke very highly of their dishes. I often visit Rakuya because it's consistent and always delicious.

One of the best bento spots in Washington, D.C. Each bento comes with several sweet, savory, and pickled accompaniments that pair perfectly with the fish or meat or vegetarian option of your choice.

Such a cute little DC sushi joint!! As always, love when the staff is knowledgable about gluten free sushi options and when they carry gluten free soy sauce (so I don't have to bring my own) :) I thought the quality was great - so did my friend. Prices were also (somewhat) reasonable for DC, always a win. I do recommend a reservation, because it was pretty packed and there was a wait when we went.

Solid spot in Dupont with happy hour weekdays from 4-6 PM. We came around 7 PM on Friday and were able to sit at the bar (group of 4 but 2 were leaving at 7:30 PM). I got a hojicha latte for $5 that was good as well as the double salmon roll. My friend got the warm house sake, a volcano roll, and a red dragon roll. Everything was good and the pricing felt fair, especially considering the area.

Had a nice dinner here! Ordered a few sushi rolls which were pretty good, with the crunchy eel being my favorite. Also tried a cocktail, the Tokyo mule which was delicious! Service was very quick and friendly! Happy hour runs until 6 and was a pretty good deal with a lot of options.

The food here was good overall, but I have to say I did not like the way they do Tantan men ramen here. Tantan is my favorite ramen, but for some reason here, they basically only give you all the ingredients sitting in the oils but WITHOUT the broth. This is the only ramen on the menu they serve without broth and I can't understand why. I wouldn't order this one again if we were to go back here. The service was decent, no complaints. Bathroom doesn't have a changing table so good luck if you have a young child with you. The seating arrangements aren't bad and you get a nice view of the outer street.

One of our favorite Japanese and sushi spots in the city. Great weekly happy hour - my go to order is the crispy calamari, chicken karage, salmon avocado roll, and Seoul train roll (great spicy kimchee flavor). We are also fans of their brunch - a variety of Japanese brunch options are available in bento box and other formats with a variety of small plates. You can even add bottomless sangria and mimosas for $15 (one of the best prices in the city). Staff is always attentive, and great outdoor and indoor seating options.

I've been a fan of Rakuya for about six or seven years, ever since I moved to the area, and it's still one of my go-to spots for happy hour. Their sushi is always top-notch and offers great value. This past week, I went for dinner and tried the Tokyo Dashi with vegetables and tofu for the first time. It was delicious--flavorful but not overwhelming, and the noodles and veggies were perfectly balanced. The ambiance is cozy and cute, and it's super convenient being right off the Dupont metro. I'd definitely recommend it for a date night or a happy hour with friends!

Service was so friendly! It was a busy night and they still let us sit at the bar with no reservation. Food came quick for how busy it was and it was delicious!!

3.5 Food is mid. I got the Black Cod Misozuke set, the Zen Refresher and the Ikura sushi. The quality and taste aren't bad but also not exactly that good. I expected more given the price. Service felt rushed but I don't think the staff wanted to come off as rude on purpose. I sat in the outdoor area. It's a nice spot.

I've always had a great time at Rakuya, and this time was no different. Actually if anything, it was better because we discovered their unlimited mimosa/sangria option. I got their udon/rice bowl combo that is truly just an unparalleled combo. I've previously had a second meal from leftovers, but I was so hungry, I finished the full platter, and it was so yummy. The mimosa/sangria offer was $15 for 90 minutes, and those glasses were fulllll. The staff were also so so kind and great. Consistently, . I would recommend making a reservation for dinner and Saturday brunch, but I haven't had an issue with Sunday brunch/lunch times!

Since there were only two of us, we shared an eight-person table with three other couples, which gave it a very authentic Japanese ramen shop vibe. Our server was attentive from the start. As soon as he finished taking our order, he asked if anyone needed a fork. I really appreciated that, since I don't know how to use chopsticks and didn't have to awkwardly ask for one myself. We started with the gyoza, which were so crispy and flavorful that we ended up ordering a second plate. For ramen, we tried the tsukemen, which comes with cold noodles that you dip into a rich, soy-forward broth. It was an interesting experience, but after a while the repetitive dipping became a bit tedious for me. We also ordered the spicy miso ramen, which was my favorite of the two. It had a nice kick without being overwhelmingly spicy. It also came with bean sprouts, which aren't usually my favorite, but they added a pleasant crunch and texture to the bowl. Overall, this was a really solid meal. It wasn't quite the mind-blowing experience I had built up in my head, but it's still one of the better ramen spots I've had in DC. I'll definitely be back to check out the izakaya upstairs.

Not saying all restaurants have to be personable, but there was no moment of respite for the staff so the entire meal, no one checked on us and I wasn't even able to inquire about the missing items and just waited for it to come. The food though was delicious. No one had any issues about the taste of their meal. There was concern at the end of the meal when the staff couldn't remember where a colleague's credit card was. Wild how they make so much tasty vegan stuff. Although, my Korean fried Chick'n sandwich definitely needed more accompanying tater tots ( I had maybe 10). Food came out super fast. Service has to be 3 stars though. Our server said the gochujang mayo wasnt spicy, when gochujang is (it's got a mildly strong kick that quickly evens out/dissipates) so that's just incorrect to tell people who can't handle heat. More importantly, we were all done with desert at roughly 9pm and it wasn't until 9:40, despite multiple moments of eye contact from a few of us, that our server even came to our table to clear our plates. We'd all clearly been done, not even nibbling, for almost that whole time. In that time, other than his regular duties, our server seemed to do other idle things or "end of the evening" tasks, setting up other tables, stacking plates on them, etc. instead of checking on us. Again, a few of us made eye contact a couple times, which can indicate (along with none of us having touched our plates for 5-10 minutes) that we're done. Other plates had been cleared almost right away. We were also all left wanting for water at the end as no other staff came by to see if we needed more. So yeah, not thrilled about that. Also, it was weirdly a smidge too warm in Planta Queen tonight. I suspect the AC just wasn't on as strong because of the AQI in DC (on June 17, 2026) but it was noticeable.

My husband and I dined in for the first time today, and we were both very impressed with the atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Hayden was our server, and he showed exemplary hospitality skills. He made us feel welcome, checked in on us frequently without feeling overbearing, and made sure we knew the AYCE menu is double-sided. Speaking of, the AYCE is such a great deal! I used to live in Vegas, where AYCE sushi is very common. Unfortunately, for most of them, since the focus is on quantity, the quality suffers. This is not the case for Toryumon! Maybe it's because it isn't strictly an AYCE place. You can absolutely order items a-la-carte from their regular menu (as I had done previously for take-out). The items are exactly the same whether you order from the regular menu or the AYCE. Same quality, and, this is important, same size! Yes, you will receive a FULL-SIZED bowl of ramen if you order it from the AYCE menu. Not all of the menu items have descriptions, and I was surprised by some of them (not in a bad way, just wasn't what I was expecting), such as: The avocado salad. I was expecting it to be cubes/chunks of avocado tossed with a dressing. What came out was a lettuce salad with sliced avocado on top. The dressing was good, slightly sweet. It was a good salad, just not at all what I was expecting. The sweet potato sushi roll is served warm, the sweet potato is deep fried, and there is eel sauce on top. The sweet potato rolls I had other places were not fried, and served cold. I really enjoyed this one! Everything seemed very fresh, not a hint of wilting greens or brown avocado to be seen! I am so grateful to live right down the road from this amazing establishment. If you enjoy ramen, sushi, and other Japanese items, def give them a try! There are bathrooms available for guests. What my stars mean: 5 is outstanding, memorable, a place to write home about! A must-experience. Someplace I would love to recommend to tourists, and visit myself again and again. 4 is great, somewhere I'd love to return again and again. Back-up recommendation for tourists. 3 is good. A solid option if I am in the area. I may recommend to locals, but would probably leave it off my list of recommendations for tourists. 2 is ok, but only because it a great value, unique, and/or convenient. 1 means I would not return.
