There was a Rally's / Checker's in Austin for a coupla years, a long time ago now. It didn't catch on, I guess, so it's just a memory now. Rally's and Checker's, of course, are basically the same company, and have the same menu. The name's just different, depending on where you live. But there's one here in Escondido! There's a Rally's within walking distance of where I stay here. Rally's used to be more of a "basic" burger place, and they were really good when they were just that. But over the years, they've "filled-out" their menu considerably. You can still get a cheap burger for a buck or so, and they're BETTER than a McDonald's "Value" burger; BTW, McDonald's just announced yesterday that the prices are going UP on the Value items. Between that fact, the fact that Rally's makes a BETTER BURGER, and well, the fact that the ONLY McDonald's in Escondido (right across the street from Rally's) burned down a couple of years ago, the Rally's here seems to do a resounding business. I know they get plenty of MINE. Might've been a factor in the apparent decision by the local McDonald's franchisee to NOT REBUILD. I don't know, just speculating... Rally's is TRYING TO BE an inexpensive burger joint that makes a quality product. And I can't write a review of Rally's without mentioning their FRENCH FRIES. They are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES among all other fries! And even though I can't get a Rally Burger in Austin anymore, Wal*Mart DOES carry the fries, in the frozen food section. Ya think I've maybe got a bag or two in the freezer? Of course, at Rally's you can get them "naked" or fully LOADED. Wings too, and other specialty items, such as a Philly Burger. The one possible disadvantage is that there's no indoor dining area, so if it's too cold, hot, or breezy, it's better to grab and go home. Climate's obviously NOT a problem in San Diego County; you can eat outside most of the time. But it probably has an effect on business in areas where there's more inclement weather than Southern California. Could've been a factor in Austin? I dunno... First off, I use to LOVE rally's. Now I realized why I don't come here. They didn't have garlic Parmesan sauce for the wings, then it was a ten minute wait for either wings, the person who took my order couldn't give my total any faster, as I was NOT done. Then the manager argued with me saying I was saying one thing when In fact I was saying the complete opposite... bottom line, this place is not worth my time or money as the wings were small and the fries were cold. read more

It had been many, MANY years since I last visited this restaurant so I was pretty excited to try it out since I was in the area. I remember them being famous for their seasoned fries and Big Buford sandwich. This time around, I decided to go with the double bacon sandwich, which is basically a smaller version of the Big Buford. The burger wasn't bad at all and had some good taste to it. I prefer it than both Jack 'N the Box and Carls Jr. burgers. My main gripe really was the fries. Do people really think they're any good? It tasted like an overcooked, stale fry with a bunch of seasoning on it. Not very good and I've got no clue what people see in their fries. Burgers are decent though so go here for that. They've got a menu that consist of 2 items for $3 and 2 items for $4. Not too bad for people looking for a cheap meal. read more

Gave away my food to another customer who came after me. Accused me of stealing food that was never put into my bag that I paid for. Checked the video tape to confirm said food was in the bag, said it was in there but will still make me new food. That's weird why call me a thief, check vid and the make me the food, as if I were right along right? I get home, fries were small instead of large, and hot sauce was covering my wings when I asked for bbq on the side. This is after me waiting about 10 mins in the parking lot for my order to begin with. Check cameras, 530_6ish, new Tacoma 3/20 .. it shows you giving us one bag instead of 2. My burger is probably the worst I've ever had. The lettuce was wilted and the tomato soggy and soft. The burger chewy and dry. The bun was smashed into the burger. It looked like someone had it in there back pocket for three hours then sat on it. I asked them to make my daughters burger with ketchup and lettuce. Instead they gave me one with everything on it. Thanks Rally's! On top of that, customer service was lacking. After driving up to the window, I had to wait 5 mins for the dude in the car behind me to order his food before I even got the total. Then when the drive-thru lady tells me the total, she rushes me to give he the money by giving me the "come on" hand gesture as if I was the one taking forever. The nerve of some people. I was really disappointed. But they did ask me if I needed ketchup for my fries, twice. Hooray for the small wins. read more

This was the first Rally's experience for me! They are located on Valley Pkwy, right next to a corner gas station, across from McDonald's and 99 cents store. I love their fries! :) Tried them twice already and both times ordered the chicken tenders/ fingers with fries or chicken pieces with fries! The price was very affordable! I got some coupons at home and I got the BOGO chicken pieces with fries. I want to come back to try their icecream cone next time! :) read more

Yeah, maybe we stuffed our face until it was coming out our eye sockets on Thanksgiving. And maybe we ate pie for breakfast the next day, then donuts, then lunch, then dinner, then drinks... A midnight snack is not a crime. In fact, we've been doing so many stomach exercises lately we just wanted to make sure we had made progress. So, hooray for Rallys being open late to cut that nagging fries craving. Another hooray for not keeping burgers OR fries under some soggy heat lamp. We gladly waited a few extra minutes as you cooked up a fresh batch of those heavenly seasoned sticks of wonder, as well as a Philly Steak sammy for the bf whose metabolism resembles a race horse training for the Kentucky Derby. Lastly, hooray for the generous sides of ranch that somewhat resembled Elmers glue, but was tasty nonetheless. Hey I got an idea: Let's take San Diego's most curiously delicious hamburger chain and put the locations in the seediest parts of San Diego! Oh well, I don't care. For me it's worth the drive and whatever risk of bodily harm u may encounter to get your Rally burger. I worked at Rally's from age 19-21 back in the stone age so I'm partial. If u haven't tried Rally's, make sure to get the classic Rallyburger Combo w fries. Oh those seasoned fries. Kinda like seasoned mashed potatoes stuffed inside a crispy outer crust. The Rallyburger is a win for me as it's very un-greasy and small. Low on the guilt factor. It has all the standard components of any other burger but still tastes like well, a RallyBurger. I've still yet to figure out what makes it so adorably different and seductive. Maybe I should never know. Get the tacos too. I have always loved this place. I miss going here at the location in Poway where I first fell in love. The fries that is. I miss them dearly and whenever I get a chance and find a Rally's, I have to go. It almost feels like going to an amusement park or seeing somebody famous. I saw it and I couldn't resist. I like Rally's only for the fries. I don't like much else but I could order two large fries and be set. Its weird how they have dual drive through one for passenger and one for driver. I almost forget every time I go that I have to go to the driver side drivethru. I was the only one there and got my food and I couldn't be happier. This place is keeping America obese one "Fully Loaded" fry at a time. If you pull up to the drive-thru menu, you will notice the calorie counts on the menu items. I almost backed away, but I really was curious to try the Fully Loaded Fries. The verdict? Good...decent. Would I order them again?? At 640 calories an order? No!!! Four stars for the customer service. The girl working the drive-thru was fast, efficient and got me on my way quickly. She did not mess up the order either, which is always a bonus. The service was terrible. The lady was giving me attitude, the audacity to disrespect me like that. I was just standing there waiting to order and the lady told me I already ordered when I haven't ordered yet, then I told her I haven't ordered she just left I was standing there for a couple minutes until someone else came to take my order much faster. My sister and cousin ordered before me and they took forever to give them their stuff they ordered, my cousin ordered before my sister and she got her stuff faster then her. They took like ten minutes to get my order and there were also two people behind waiting to order their stuff. Next time they can have more employees working and not just the worst ones they got. I was here a couple weeks before and the ice cream tasted like water rather than ice cream. My cousin got a vanilla milk shake and they gave her a strawberry one instead and she doesn't like strawberry's. Maybe their employees can do their job right and not give attitude. I remember when I first moved to North San Diego back in the early 90's and Rally's was the first burger joint I tryed... One of the best Burgers in town for hellla cheap. Food was gross and sloppy , and they messed up my order. I ordered some cheesecake sundaes and apparently they were too busy cleaning the machine so I didn't get any. I ordered through postmates and nobody contacted me about that problem so I never got the sundaes, then I thought well if the food is good I won't care as much but it was gross , barley even edible& servings are so small , I paid $30 for 2 small ass sandwiches that tasted like shit and like they weren't seasoned and medium fries that were cold asf. First time trying Rally's and it was alright. I wouldn't crave for it and go back. The burger was pretty good, I must say and the fries were decent. The downside is they forgot to give me my drink at the drive-thru! I noticed while I was driving back home and didn't want to make a u-turn for it. So a friend and I decided to venture around Escondido at night to see whats around. I happen to see that they had a Rally's Hamburger joint here and like many people that have reviewed this place, boy did it bring back memories! Early 90s they have them all over San Diego! Now you're lucky if you can even find one! We obviously had to try this place again! We saw that they had a $1 hamburger and remember about their famous fries. The seasoned french fries, although delicious, was a bit on the oily side and had a odd chicken flavor to it. It was as if the fries were deep fried in the same oil as their crispy chicken sandwich. None the less, they were simply delicious. As for the burger, the portion was pretty good for a dollar. However, when I took a bite, it was WAYYY too salty. Not exaggerated, it tasted like the person cooking it wanted to make sure every salt granule made it to the edge. Will I be coming back here now that I know this place still exists? Eventually, yes. Will I be getting their hamburgers? Probably not. They do have a value menu, some of which are a $1 (for all you frugal types). Ahhh...Rally's. The "red headed step child" to the Sonic's and burger kings of the world. These little drive thru only type shops are becoming both harder to find, yet more in trend now. However, I fear that Rally's does not have what it takes to keep up. This particular shop is on the way home from my daughter's school so we more often than not end up driving thru for a chocolate shake and rally burger. The food is decent fast food fare, they have some good deals, but nothing really to set them apart form the million other offerings out there. The staff here is nice, and helpful...but young and the service can be spotty, as in you might wait 1min in line...you might wait 10. But regardless, if you need a quick snack then this should be an option to consider! read more

This Rally's is a great place to stop on a drive up to Julian for apple pie. They have a delicious value menu and the food isn't too greasy. Be prepared for one of the pushiest drive through employees ever! She must have said "are you ready now?" for times in one minute after we clearly asked her to hold onto her chonies. - Pushy at drive-through - Best seasoned fries ever - Good value menu two for $3 and two for $4 This place isn't the best around by any means but be sure to get some fries with whatever you order. One of the few Rally's locations remaining. It's not what you would call healthy food, but it does taste good with the fries (kind of like the seasoned curly fries from Jack in the Box), but they're straight and not curly. You can get some good deals. I got their apple pies and it's kind of like McDonald's but it's bigger and better tasting. If I had to choose between McDonalds, Burger King or Rally's I would choose Rally's. I like Chris A's take on Rally's being located in seediest parts of San Diego County. I love North County.... so much more to do... and eat. Originally I was looking for this place before I went to the Faturger, but thanks to me misunderstanding a map, I didn't find it and settled on the Fatburger. I figured out my mistake and found Rally's with no problem. First thing, this place is a small place, very much like a Wienerstintzel (still can't spell that place!) or a Sonics... it's a drive through place with a few tables outside. Now this place isn't the epitome of healthy food, but I still had the burger itch.... First thing, the food is pretty inexpensive (good) $6.50 will get you a combo. To make it large will set you back .50 cents and adding chilli or bacon or any topping is .60 cents. They even have a value menu too, failing that, they have sundaes, coffee drinks, slurpees, ice creams, milkshakes.... or for dinner they also have hot wings, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches and hot dogs. Variety is their thing! I ordered the Roadhouse burger, which had bacon, onions, bbq sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles and it came on grilled sandwich bread. Pretty good, not as good as the fatburger, but it held it's own and it's cheaper. The fries are what Rally's is known for and I can see why, they are pretty good. Plus with the .50 cent upgrade you get more and yeah, it's worth it. I was being pretty bad that night night and I got chilli cheese fries too... yum. Blew my diet that day, but I was happy. Not really anything negative to say (unless you count the calories) but it can be a pain getting out, traffic builds up here, so be patient. Worth it though, especially if you like fries. read more

I attempted to order food at the drive thru at 11 PM on April 9, 2018. There was one car in front of me. The lady said through the speaker have a look at the menu and I'll be right with you, then failed to return. After 10 minutes of waiting I was convinced she forgot about me, abandoned her job or something. All the while the one car in front of me did not move. I backed out of the drive thru and went to Carl's Jr across the street. How or why does Rally's stay open? Pro: Fries are hot and delicious. Cons: Everything else is SO terribly salty. Apparently they have some timing sensor so they get the food out quick enough. There was no one behind me but dude required me to either back up and trigger the sensor or pull out of the drive thru and park. His co-worker was a total *itch..."your confusing her! Ma'am you need to pull out of the drive thru and we will being your food out"..not confused you dumb@**.. irritated? Yes!!!
