I have been going to this Ralph's for years. The last year or so they are so crowded and never have more than two people on the registers. They want you to do everything yourself with the check out. There is always a line and it takes forever. There is never any carts available. They need to hire more people. It's ridiculous. And, don't say you can't find people to hire, Vons down the road always has carts and many people at the registers. Maybe you need to pay more to keep employees. read more

This review is for curbside pickup only. I have never been inside the store. Don't waste your time trying to use Ralphs curbside pickup. While I understand that demand has increased due to the coronavirus, they've had 3 months to ramp up operations & they still can't get it together. A few of the problems encountered: 1. After placing an order for a specified time, I received a call as we were heading out the door to pick up the groceries stating that there would be an approximately 2 hour delay & they would call us back when the order was ready. Never received a call & it turns out the order would not be ready until the next day. 2. Received miserable produce with barely a day of life left. 3. Pricing errors. Discounts that are reflected online are not necessarily applied to your order. 4. If there is a problem with your order, you are still charged the full amount & have to wait about two weeks to receive credit from Kroger (the parent company in Ohio). 5. Customer service from Kroger (the parent company in Ohio) is pathetic. I suspect that many of these problems are attributable to Kroger rather than the local Ralphs employees, who seem to be stretched thin. We've also tried Walmart's curbside grocery delivery service. I'm not normally a Walmart customer, but I must say that Walmart service far exceeds Ralphs in every way (and the prices are much lower too). read more

I recently moved to the area. Two items didn't make it into my very large shopping trip at the Ralph's in Hillcrest. Manager ANTHONY here would not replace the 2 missing items and said I would have to drive all the way back over to Hillcrest to get the two missing items even though I was purchasing new groceries items at his store AND ITS RAINING! This is the kind of bullshit you might experience from TWO SEPARATE mom and pop stores, but not a large franchise like Ralph's. Screwing over a customer once over $20, Can instantly erase thousands of dollars of good feelings and Customer Service created by hundreds of other employees over 15 years. Exceptional customer service!! One step in the door I found Oliver. I had tried to find a coupon for a rug doctor rental a Ralph's was the first site to pop up. When I asked him if they have a coupon he went out of his way to help me locate the rug doctors, look into the coupon, and find all the items I needed to do some spring cleaning this weekend. Oliver made sure I was happy and told me to come find him if I wasn't. That to me is a true expert! I have always enjoyed the customer service this Ralph's provides and thanks to Oliver going above and beyond, as well as the rest of the smiling faces and happy attitudes, we will spread the word of our experience! Hi. I'm not one to usually say anything, but if I was the owner of this store, I'd want to know about what happened to me there, today. Today, I went to my local Ralph's Supermarket to buy a few items. As I was shopping, a man behind me yelled at me, "SIR, SIR, Excuse me sir!" I turned around to a security guard named Ogma with a "Protective Security" badge attached. He asked me what I was doing and if I came in with those (pointing to the bag I had of two paper towels). I said no. He asked me if I planned on paying for them. I said, "yes, of course I do". He continued to follow me as I shopped and I asked him if everything was okay. He said, "no, you're wearing a back back and those aren't allowed in here". I said that I wasn't aware of that (I was wearing a back back with my keys, asthmatic inhaler, reusable bags I brought for my groceries, wallet, a box of Girl Scout cookies I bought in front of the store before entering, and two cell phones). That's a lot to keep in gym short pockets, as I was just leaving the neighboring gym. I kindly relayed this to him and I asked if he would like me to bring my backpack back to my car. He said yes. I put my preloaded groceries in my reusable bags down, went to my car, and came back to continue shopping. When I walked back into the store, I grabbed my bags that I had already filled and this security officer was following me around the store (within a few feet). Once I was done gathering my items, I went to the front and asked to please speak to a manager. I was introduced to a "manager"named Gabriel. He asked me what happened and I explained to him my uncomfortability in the store, today. His response was that you're not allowed to bring bags into the store. I said I understand, but I come in here with a bag all of the time and also see other people with bags, too. People with purses aren't experiencing this same harrasement. He didn't say anything and looked to his colleague and said, "ok, so where were we?" As if I was being disregarded and had interrupted him, after being introduced to him. I continued to check out, as the security guard followed me through the line. I've been shopping at Ralph's for 15 years. I'm insulted by this experience and its best that corporate is aware. I own my house and run my business about 1/2 mile from this Ralph's and frequent here often. I've never had such a pathetic experience at a grocery store before. My feeling is that the manager (Gabriel) and the security guard could use some coaching. read more

We just moved from Rolando to Mission Valley and I'm shocked at how different the two Ralph's in these neighborhoods are. The Rolando folks were so helpful and even recognized me when I'd shop there. The staff at Mission Valley seem unhappy. It's overcrowded and the lines are terrible. And the customers aren't much better, having been bullied and accused of cutting in the past. I think if they had more staff and there were more grocery store options in this area it would help. I still try to go the Rolando location instead when I can. read more

This grocery store was pretty descent. We needed some groceries. We headed straight back to the clearance rack because you can find some great deals. I ended up getting a Garnier Moroccan oil for $3.39. Regular price was like $7.99. I also picked up some Tazo tea. It was also $3.39 or something like that. They have so many items from fruit, vegetables, drinks, and lots more. The aisles were clean and everything was organized. Lots of items were on sale. Some items you had to consume by the next day. Plenty of parking in front. There were restrooms in the back which you needed a code to get inside. I would come back. read more

I hate to give my secrets up so easily but for the good of the yelp community I'm willing to let the cat out of the bag. I normally don't come to Ralph's for my weekly shopping. They sometimes do have really great specials found in the newspapers (add the digital coupons for some really great savings!) but on average the prices are pretty high. The produce is pretty good and some of the meats & fish are really fresh depending on the cut and such. However the secret is found at the back of the store. There is a clearance section that has some amazing deals on baked goods. I got some lemon cookies that were so sweet and moist. The original piece was 5.99 but on the rack the price was only 1.99. Totally worth it! The staff are super hard to track down. I was attempting got see if there was some pumpkin spice creamer available that I saw online. I literally had to ask 4 staff members to help and they all literally told me they'll call someone else to meet me at the dairy section. No one ever came. I flagged someone down who told me they are out but a new shipment would come at midnight. I came the next day and after spending 20 mins to get someone to check they told me they are getting their shipment at midnight. WTF?! After that I just left. read more

One of the worst Ralph's I have been too. They service a large community and always have one or two lanes open. They severely understaff this store. You should expect a minimum 20 minute wait in line. I live across the street and come here reluctantly when I need something fast. It is always packed no matter what time of day I have been here. The person at the self checkout lane hoards the 10 cent plastic bags so you always have to wait for them to help three other people before you. They never have more than two checker lanes open. I've been to San Diego native for 64 years and there's two people that I want to acknowledge for their extra efforts. First of all there's a guy name Angel that works at the delicatessen. I had the best conversation with him ever he was such a cool dude not just because he was nice but he really really showed that he loved his job and he really knew his delicatessen. He double check to make sure that my meats were cut right and there was something about him that just made you smile. And actually the girl there with a very short hair at the delicatessen is completely rad. I wish I could find workers like this for my business. Last I want to mention this big guy at the cash register his name is Dennis. He always introduces himself and he makes purchasing groceries a great experience if you can believe that. With the prices these days, he just makes the whole experience better. This location used to be so good. It's gone completely down hill over the last 1-2 years. There's NEVER any checkout lines open aside from the self checkouts. When they do have checkout lines open with actual employees it's usually 1 or 2 and the lines to wait are all the way down the isles taking at least 15 minutes to get to the cashier. I am a local to this area, with Ralphs being the closest grocery store to my house. I have also seen good Ralph's in the other areas I've lived in my life. This is a bad Ralphs. I have seen spoiled food, my most recent encounter being with some moldy blueberries a week or so ago. The store is consistently dirty. I once had a conversation with an employee who laughed about attempting to sell me 3 month old vodka jell-O, unaware of if whether the age would make it stronger or potentially life-threatening. In addition the all this, the store for some odd reason does not have apple pay. The Starbucks and deli are the two highlights of the store, but even the deli has had a drastically more limited selection since the pandemic. read more

Tl;dr: do not order pickup here and do not go in store during peak hours until they hire more people. First off, checkouts are a madhouse at peak hours. I've never gone during the day on weekdays, so maybe it's fine then, but every time I've gone into the store (usually only for a few items that I forgot to put on a pickup order earlier in the week), I've spent more time waiting in line than I have actually picking out my items. Based on other Yelp reviews, it seems cashier staffing has been an issue since at least April. Just look at the other reviews' pictures of lines. Those lines aren't out of the ordinary, they've been like that every time I've gone in. Now for pickup. I've been ordering pickup here without issue since mid May. Last weekend, I placed a pickup order for 3pm on a Sunday. I arrived shortly after 3, checked in, then got a call informing me my order would be delayed. No big deal, I ask how long she thinks it will be, and she says about 10-15 minutes and that I'd get a call when it's ready. So I decide to wait in the parking lot. And I wait. And I wait. My order wasn't ready until 4:30. I get that delays happen, and while 90 minutes is a bit much I would have been mostly fine with it if I had been told that it would be so long so I could wait at home rather than in my car. Last night, I placed an order for pickup today at 5pm, after work. I got a voicemail around 3:30 today telling me that there would be a delay, I would be called when my order is ready, and that I could call back if I didn't hear back and wanted to check the status of my order. No big deal. I called the number that I got the voicemail from and the customer service number for this specific location 3-4 times each between 5:30 and 6:30, letting it ring a solid dozen times before hanging up each time. I finally get a person to pick up in customer service and she informs me that they have ONE person working pickup orders, and that she is still working on orders from YESTERDAY. Regardless, she takes my name and phone number and says she'll give them to the girl doing pickups, and that I may get a call with a status update. As I type this it's 9:00pm, four hours after my order was supposed to be ready, and now I'm doubting that it'll even be ready today. It's a good thing I had leftover pizza so I could pivot from the dinner I had planned for today in that order. And I don't even have an option to cancel the order. I need to submit any changes by midnight the night before, but when Ralph's is at least 4 hours late for their end of the bargain, I have no recourse. To be clear, I do not blame any of the employees. This issue is on either management, corporate, or both. For one thing, I should not have been able to place an order for 5pm if a 5pm order could not be fulfilled, the times that you're allowed to pick should take into account how many other orders there are and how many people are available to work on those orders. And if it does this already, then it's not doing it very well. Also, HIRE MORE PEOPLE. Having a single person handling all pickup orders in inexcusable, and frankly embarrassing. I know that low wage jobs having trouble finding employees is a hot button issue right now. But if you're having trouble finding people, instead of just hoping people will settle for the pittance you're trying to pay them, raise your wages! I doubt I'll be returning here ever again. As a quick edit, I just checked what times are available with a dummy order, and the latest schedulable pickup time is 8pm. So it looks like I'll (hopefully) be getting my order tomorrow, but with how understaffed they seem to be, who knows if it'll be ready at a time that I'm actually able to go and get it. read more

I order from this Ralphs weekly for drive up pick up. I have 2 small toddlers so having the convenience of pick up is a wonderful thing. However, the past 3 weeks in a row the order has been delayed from our original pick up time which is really becoming an inconvenience. The first time they didn't give a reason other then they were running a hour behind. The second time, they were running about a hour behind due to staff shortages. The third time, they were "running about 30 min behind due to an error in their system" but they didn't have my order ready for 3 hours. This is the closest store to my apartment in Mission Valley, and I really wanted to make it my neighborhood store when I moved here last year. However, there is a massive problem with transients harassing people and ruining the shopping experience every time I come here. One in particular who wears shorts in the store and has skin literally falling off his legs. I can always tell when he's in the store because I can smell his bad hygiene from 2 aisles away. This isn't to be rude or malicious, as I generally feel for the homeless, but this guy in particular has been in the store every time I've gone there for the last year and it's not his fault.. it's the staffs for not doing anything about it. We went to the checkout line with a full cart, and I usually plan to bag my own groceries to help out and speed up the process for everyone involved. This was our first time to this specific Ralph's and our cashier Shelli was just very off putting. She needed a price check on an item and asked 4 different people, then when someone gave her a price check she kept questioning them and belittling them. Going back to me bagging my own groceries, she then comes around the cart to count how many bags we used. I tell her I think we are at 10, and she's rudely says "there's more than 10 bagged already" (there wasn't), so I said ok charge me for 12. She proceeds to double down and say "do you think it will actually fit in 12?" I then said just charge me for whatever then. If I'm expected to bag my own groceries since there's no baggers around, maybe cut me a .10 cent break? Not like I was trying to rob the place, we ended up using 11 bags. It's huge and really well-organized. They had a lot of good deals going on so I ended up buying more than I originally planned. This plaza's parking lot is usually really packed but when I went last night around 9:30pm there was hardly anyone there, so go shopping later in the evening if you want to avoid crowds! read more
