This is my go to ramen in the area. During winter and cold afternoons, you can find me here! The interior is clean and the staff is friendly. There are several parking spaces in the area including the parking structure. Inside is a bit small but I've always found sitting. I guess it depends of what time you arrive. If you are coming with a large party, arrive early. The Black Garlic Ramen is my favorite! Garlic lovers this is your dish! It has whole garlic but it is cooked in a way that it is not overpowering. You get that good state of eating garlic but without the aftertaste that last for days. The garlic is a bit sweet. I just love it! The broth is flavorful, not salty nor bland. It is just right! This dish comes with pork. My husband's go to is the Chicken Ramen! I was a bit hesitant the first time he got it. I thought it was going to be meh but it is amazing! Lots of chicken and the flavor is just right! Second best if I'm not getting the black garlic ramen. We've also gotten items from their BBQ menu and they improved them so much since we first try them! The Chicken Katsu and Chicken BBQ are delicious! Both dishes come with macaroni salad if you order the plate. For the light eater there are bowls and those come with rice, veggies and your choice of meat. The plate is worth it in my opinion because they give you a lot of food. I usually share it with my daughter. It is good enough for two people. Plus I love the macaroni salad and I can't skip that! The Takoyaki is the only appetizer I've tried here and I love it! They are also a lot of options if you are looking for different appetizers. Had this place bookmarked for a while and finally decided to venture out on a cold rainy Monday to get some Ramen. That's the perfect weather to get Ramen in my opinion! You order up at the front even if you are sitting down to eat. They have probably about eight small tables so best to come in small groups of four or less. It's cute and clean inside. You can park around the corner near the gas station. The prices are a bit higher than listed on the menu and online - probably about a dollar or two more but still a good deal considering the area that we are in and the portion sizes! They don't have alcohol but have soft drinks. Omgeee the portions were HUGE. We definitely over ordered between the three of us since we got three appetizers and I got one bowl of their popular black garlic Ramen. Everything came out fast (ramen was faster). Black garlic ramen spicy was very flavorful, perfect spice level, chewy noodles, huge pork slices (soft but not melt in your mouth texture), perfect soft-boiled egg (it was cold but that's okay, I pushed it down into the hot broth). My other friends got Hawaiian barbecue plates which come in take-out containers. The mixed barbecue plate is $16 and comes with three huge servings of different kinds of meats, macaroni salad, rice and veggies. The other barbecue plate my friend got was the chicken Katsu and there was tons of fried chicken in there. We all had enough food for lunch and more the next day. The appetizers we got included the crab Rangoon, the chicken Karaage, and spam musubi. They deep fry the spam musubi and put it on a huge portion of rice. The chicken Karaage portion was also ridiculously large and the chicken was hot and crispy. It reminded me of popcorn chicken with less seasoning but still packing loads of flavor. I would definitely get this each time I go here! I like this ramen much better than the Ramen shop in Walnut Creek and it is wayyyy better than the one in the Veranda. Ordered three different ramen bowls. The broth in all of them tasted horrible. I could not eat mine or any of my family member's ramen because the broth in each bowl was literally gag-inducing. My dad said that it tasted like dirty sock water. Idk how someone could ruin something as good as ramen. Also the staff failed to explain that we are supposed to get out own drinks from the fridge. We were waiting around for them to bring us the drinks for a long time until we figured it out. We all felt queasy from the little ramen we ate. We ordered here few times before dine-in was allowed and it wasn't quite the same, probably because we don't live that close so the travel time steams everything. For us, it's so much better to dine-in here and get everything fresh. The tonkatsu soup base is creamy and rich. the slices of pork are tender and flavorful. The wood ear mushrooms and sprouts and bamboo were all crunchy which added a nice texture contrast. The chicken karaage didn't have too much breading so you can taste the chicken. Our daughter got the bbq chicken and katsu chicken plate and was stuffed. The chicken was flavorful and even the cabbage and broccoli was fresh. The hawaiian bbq options they added a few years ago is a bonus when people in the group want something other than ramen, which is always a plus for our family. Service was friendly and efficient. And the place was very clean (they were cleaning everything from the floor to the tables while we were there) They do have very limited spaces inside so we always try to visit during off-meal time. With so many ramen places in the Bay, it's hard to compete. We'd been to another Ramen 101 location years ago and found it quite average, but after receiving many coupons in the mail for 20% off our order, we caved and gave this location a chance. Unfortunately, my opinion remains unchanged. We ordered spicy tonkotsu ramens and takoyaki to go. The price of ramen is on the cheaper side, but sadly, that's indicative of the quality. The broth was incredibly oily and so were the outside of the containers. "Spicy" was not spicy at all -- it was hardly mild. The noodles were very thick and had no chew. They were bland and tasted like they came out of a box. The takoyaki was very doughy and more of a half dome shape, rather than a circle like typical takoyaki. But there was a piece of octopus in each! The coupons are enticing, but with so many great ramen spots around us, I will pay the extra price for the higher quality. read more

I thought it was great when they said it was going to take 10 minutes for our two orders to be ready- one tonkatsu and the other black garlic, both medium spicy and with a starter of geso, squid legs. By the time we got to the car with our order, the geso was kind of soggy but had a good flavor and didn't find the spicy mayo dip until I was down to one leg- sad face. By the time we got home, I poured the broth onto the noodles and all the items the noodles came with- boiled egg, mushrooms, fish cake, sprouts. I ate the egg and had the broth. The noodles were stuck together at the bottom and hard to separate. It wasn't appetizing trying to get stuck noodles apart without broth splashing everywhere. I gave up and eh, the flavor was ok. Big ups to Ramen 101! My little hidden joint in downtown Concord. Am enjoying a hearty bowl of their Seafood ramen as I type. The Pork Rib ramen is a handful - I wasn't that famished this afternoon as it's very filling. For a quiet conversation, or just a comfort food serving of delicious ramen with your desired level of kick (several different levels of spicy can be requested), this joint is always a thumbs up from me. It has a small interior and you order at the counter before they seat you. Surprisingly it was packed for a weekday night. There aren't too many options as far as ramen goes out here, so I get it. Service at the window was great and all of the staffers were friendly. Ended up ordering their spicy tonkotsu ramen and it was so disappointing. First off, it didn't come with corn and it costs $1 extra to add it. Boo hoo... but I did it anyways. I have to have corn in my ramen (especially tonkotsu). The broth.... was TERRIBLE. Flavor? Um... WHERE? This sh*t was bland AF! Not to mention that the "spicy" grade wasn't even spicy at all. None of the ingredients tasted fresh. The worst was the pork meat. It literally felt like I was chewing on rubber. Ugh... so nasty. I didn't eat it. I couldn't eat it. Perhaps the most disappointing element were the noodles themselves. Cheap ass noodles, bruh! HELLA cheap! They were like spaghetti noodles. Unusually thick and overly soft to the point of where they were practically disintegrating into the broth. Yuck! My fiancé and I decided to fulfill our ramen craving by dining here on one cold winter evening. We read the reviews on Yelp before going to Ramen 101 and were anticipating some delicious ramen. Customer service is OK here. The young woman behind the register wasn't too friendly and wasn't personable at all. The only good thing from our interaction with her was that she didn't mess up our orders. When the preparation of our food was complete, she and a colleague brought our meals out to us. The other staff person was a bit more friendly than the original girl we interacted with behind the register. The food is alright. The food was served piping hot, including the gyoza, shortly after we ordered it. They use the right amount of seasoning for their ramen and gyoza, which is why I understand why other Yelpers really enjoy this place. However, some of the items were a bit overcooked for my liking. The roasted pork included in my Shoyu ramen was very tough to eat. I couldn't cut it with my chopsticks and I couldn't bite off tiny pieces of it. Instead, I resorted to rolling the over-cooked roasted pork with my chopsticks and eating the whole thing that way. It was very chewy and not pleasant. The egg that was also included in my ramen was overcooked as well. I like my soft-boiled egg to be a little runny whenever I eat ramen. Instead I got an egg that was nearly a hard-boiled egg. This place deserves 5 stars not just for the food but also the service they provide. All of the staff are so well mannered. As soon as we got inside we were greeted with smile. My wife and I ordered vegetable ramen. It was served within 5 minutes. It was really good and I enjoyed every slurp. But what really caught my attention is the cleanliness inside the establishment. The two young ladies working in front made sure that tables were cleaned right away after customers, disinfects the tables so its ready for the next one. I think that was really good and an outstanding service and deserves my top ratings. Fun fact: Slurping noodles is not a bad table manner. Besides trying every milk tea spot that I can, I am determined to try as much ramen places as I can. So when I found out that there's a spot in Concord I had to get in my car and test it out. It's super easy to order here. Just choose from the menu and order. They have nice amount of options but instead of going for the regular stuff I decided to get the limited special of pork rib ramen. $14.90-something, pretty much the same price the seafood ramen. There's just enough of seating here. Good music played. The staff is nice. The ramen tasted pretty good. I wouldn't say that I was blown away by it. Came here on a Saturday evening the restaurant was busy, seating area was clean and dinning tables are for 2-4 persons. You order your food they give you a number and you seat yourself. Service was friendly and super fast bringing our food. Black garlic noddle ramen does not come with egg but you can add it for a fee. The soup had about 6 pieces of black garlic, it wasn't my favorite but perfect for person who love a strong garlic taste. Miso ramen delicious we ordered it spicy but the spice level was at a medium. We added the powder spice that sits in the table and it gave it a good kick. Grilled squid 100% my favorite appetizer on the menu. This is basically fast food ramen. It's not a bad thing; it's just not a good thing. I'm just trying to find a spot that will have me killin the ramen the way Naruto does (IYKYK), but this didn't do it for me. We ordered a lot of food and everything came out within 1 minute of sitting down.. a bit questionable lol I got the miso ramen, extra spicy! It had a little kick, but def not extra spicy. The boo opted for the chicken ramen, spicy, but there was no kick and not much flavor tbh. My bf actually said he rather eat his instant noodles at home, so that's how he was feeling about it all. The toppings on the noodles were delicious though! Each bowl had 1 whole marinated egg cut in halves, bamboo, whole woodear mushrooms, green onions and bean sprouts. My miso had two thin slices of chashu pork which were really yummy. I think the bowl could have used one more slice though since it was so thin. The chicken ramen had pieces of marinated chicken sliced on top and those were good too. They put a ton of noodles in each bowl so it's a really hefty meal if you finish it all. I asked a for a lemon wedge to add to my noodles but they said they don't have lemons -_- Well.. okay lol Every kitchen needs heat, acid, sweet sooo.... what is you doin?! We tend to over order, so we also ended up with 3 starters: grilled squid, takoyaki, and chicken karaage. Let me start off by saying GET THE CHICKEN KARAAGE. It's basically popcorn chicken but I love popcorn chicken! It comes with a sweet mayo dipping sauce too which I really enjoyed. This was the best part of our whole meal. The takoyaki was okay... part of me liked it, the other part did not and the other part is just confused lol I think they should have put some of the sweet mayo on top, and a little less of the sweet teriyaki-ish type sauce which was too overpowering. The texture was also super gooey.. I think it could have cooked for just a couple seconds more on the pan. The whole grilled squid was a sight to see but they killed it (not in a good way) by drowning the whole damn thing in sauce. The sauce is good but too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. The sauce was just way too sweet and too strong for something as delicate as grilled squid. I think if we could have got the sauce on the side, for dipping, it would have helped a lot. I'm a dipper though. I'm not the type to cover my fries in ketchup if I can opt to dip it instead. If you do the opposite, you're reckless and I don't trust you. All in all, put the sweet mayo on everything and it will make it a billion times better! Don't question me. I did take the ramen, takoyaki and karaage home, and they were nice enough to give me an extra cup of mayo sauce for dipping. The apps were still tasty after being tossed in the air fryer and I fixed up the ramen by adding more toppings, flavor and looooooooove (it's the secret ingredient). Oh, AND lemon juice. The corner of Galindo and Salvio has seen some major changes in the last year. Two longtime tenants, Bangkok Kitchen and Contra Costa Trophy & Embroidery, were forced to close due to high rent. Replacing them were four eateries - the already opened Chipotle and Ramen 101; and soon-to-open Burgerim and Fire Wings. My family and I tried out Ramen 101 on 04/12/2019. It was very busy when we walked in at 7 pm. The renovated interior looked impressive. It was modern and brightly lit. Seating was made up of about a dozen tables and they were on a first come, first serve basis. A TV was playing pop music from some YouTube channel. The menu featured a wide array of appetizers, ramen, and rice bowls. Ordering was done at the counter. I ordered 3 bowls of tonkotsu ramen (medium spicy, $10.99 each), grilled whole squid ($7.99), and chicken karaage ($7.99). The total, with a tip, was about $60. I was given a number placard afterwards. Our order was ready quickly and was brought to us by one of the staff. The grilled squid was nicely done. It came all cut up and garnished with sesame seeds. The texture was soft and supple. The slightly sweet, teriyaki-like sauce gave life to the mild-tasting flesh. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the chicken karaage. It was probably one of the worst I have ever had. The nuggets were rock hard, dry, and flavorless. Judging from the look of the exterior, I had a feeling they had been sitting around for a while. The tonkotsu ramen was generously portioned. It came with a good amount of noodles, two thick slices of chashu, a soft-boiled egg that was halved, bamboo shoots, kikurage mushrooms, fish cake, and bean sprouts. The noodles had a nice chewy texture and the soft-boiled egg was perfectly done. Chashu was flavorful but a bit dry. On the flip side, the broth lacked richness, both in taste and body. Overall, I thought it was OK, but certainly not 5-star worthy. We received terrific service. The young staff was energetic, friendly, and attentive. They made us feel welcomed and checked on us frequently. Despite a few misses in my experience, Ramen 101 is a nice addition to downtown Concord. The broth was a little bland, but it wasn't god awful. The noodles were soft, I prefer my ramen noodles on the tougher side. Their meat was flavorful, but with my ramen experiences... The meat is supposed to be really soft and it usually melts in your mouth.. And the meat here, unfortunately did not do that. The bowls here are cheaper than other ramen places that I've been to, but I don't think it was enough for me to think that the price outweighed the quality. Service - You order as soon as you walk in before you sit down. Which was a little strange IMO for a ramen place. The ramen was brought to us very quickly though, but then again.. They were not busy at all when we walked in. Environment - Spacious. There's parking at the back behind the restaurant and afterwards, you can catch a movie at Brendans theater or walk around for a dessert or chill at the park about a block away. The people behind the counter have always been nice and smiling for the most part. Have eaten there one time. They have a small, nice dining area and provide whatever fixings you want on the table. Basically you order what you want up front and find your own seats. Feel like a fast food ramen place. Water is self serve also. You just have to put up the number stand and they will deliver the food to your table. We ordered the black garlic ramen. You can choose different spicy level and some add-on for additional charge. Taste was not bad. The only down side for this ramen was the pork was too fat, you can only see the fat but no meat. It doesn't come with the boiled egg, so have to pay extra for that. We were VERY impressed with how "together" everything was in the sense that: staff were very friendly, well-mannered, knowledgeable and well-trained; food was prepared quickly and accurately; dishes seemed consistent amongst the tables in preparation, presentation, and portion sizes. Welcome to Concord, Ramen 101! Okay so you order your ramen BEFORE sitting at your table. Very different from other ramen spots. The boyf and I ordered the Tonkotsu and Veggie ramen. As soon as we were seated, our food came out within 5 minutes. The bowls were huge! They are pretty generous with the amount of broth and toppings you get. So if you end up adding, for example, fried garlic, expect to see a lot of them swimming in your bowl. My veggie ramen wasn't thick and creamy. It was a nice, light, thin broth but still flavorful. You can get your ramen spicy, medium, or mild. I chose mild and it was a great kick! If you can't take the heat, just don't even add spice to it. My ramen had tofu, bamboo shoots, corn, helllla bean sprouts (so much I thought they were noodles), corn, and mushrooms. I also added seaweed! Yum. The tofu was delicious! It is a perfect touch to the veggie ramen. The bamboo shots tasted sweet, in my opinion. I liked it though. Okay, so the noods... not my cup of tea. :( Sorry Ramen 101, but it didn't taste like authentic ramen noodles... they were preeeetttttty firm, "al dente" noods. Service: Excellent! I liked how we were checked up on from time to time. So I do have some ehhhhs... as of right now, they have paper cups and a water dispenser in the front of the restaurant, so if you want more water, you'll have to get up if you don't feel like waiting to ask the waiter/waitress. I also wasn't a fan of how there weren't any napkins on the table, or how napkins were not given when they deliver your food. The napkins are also found in the front of the restaurant where you order and pay for your food. I think it would be a good idea of putting napkins on the table after cleaning it up or delivering the food with some napkins. They just opened up on 3/26/19, so they probably still have a lot of things they need to work and improve on. I will for sure be back here, because despite my few "ehhhs," I did really enjoy my meal! + I want to try their other ramens and appetizers! Food a Tonkatsu Base w/ extra noodles and medium spice - Broth - decent. If you like spicy medium is definitely medium mild if that makes sense. Go up if you prefer spicier or add the chili oil or togarashi on the next table - Egg - best condiment. Definitely soaked in soy based marinade w/ sugar. Nice! - Pork - ok. There other ramen shops that have a more flavorful pork offer Good assortment of toppings Service Super fast and served hot! Extra noodles served in a separate bowl. 12 tables so good seating Being a relatively new shop there speed and friendliness (not crazed) was very good. Definitely plus for service friendliness and greetings. Parking Not much. You will need to find parking nearby and walk. There is a garage around the corner next to the old Comcast office which is your best bet. Overall. At $10.99 base + $2 for extra noodles, grand total of $14.13 w/tax equals 3.5 stars. Since tastes vary, and what is okay for one is great for others I would check them out. For me I'm still searching for a ramen shop in the east bay that can compete with those on the peninsula. I am a pretty happy camper when I came here to eat with the family. Service is friendly and super quick, order from the counter, go find a seat. Water and soda if purchased is self serve from the counter fountain. Prices were all very reasonable. The ramen came within mins after we sat down. Noodles were excellent. Good portions, good soup stock (not entirely sure if it's powder or actual bone broth), and delicious toppings. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen, broth was just right, with a good pinch of bean sprouts on top, not like some other places where it's half the bowl. Two good sized slices of chashu, some bamboo slices, some fake fish cake, the pink and white stuff. I was in soup heaven. Came back another time and it was the same. Good, food and good. read more
