Returned on 25 Jun 2023 and tried a few different soups. All were delicious. It's great to have favorites but sometimes you just need to experiment a bit and see what works. My soup, the Wonton Men far exceeded my expectations. I have been wanting to try this place for some time. Lucky for us our first choice was not open for inside dining. Rather small but still fairly comfortable. The soups were very delicious. Even better than I expected. The taste even better than the descriptions. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Additionally, I asked for chili oil or hot sauce or anything on the side and was told they did not have it, which I thought kind of odd for an Asian restaurant! We stopped here for a quick lunch with four adults and a child, and although the restaurant is small they were able to make it work. The service was quick and the food came out immediately! The portions were massive and the broth was hot. The only downside was the lack of preparation of the tofu, it was just a block cut into huge chunks (not fried/seasoned). Eh, I know this place is popular and it's been around for awhile. I've been here on several occasions over the years on trips to Pgh and my conclusions are the same. Well, while the Asian food scene is getting better in Pgh, they really do need to step up the ramen game. First off, the ramen here is not authentic ramen by any means. I ordered the tan tan ramen and the broth is so off, it's got some vinegar in it that is so off putting, and I liken it to more like Chinese hot and sour soup with a hint of sesame. There's no richness or umami to any of the broth bases, and the taste of bamboo shoots in all the broth types is just so wrong and definitely not good Japanese ramen by any means. It's pretty pathetic. The noodles are fine, from Sun Noodles for sure, but it's a tad on the thicker side. The char siu slices are sliced way too thick. Everyone in the restaurant was saying how great this place is, but hands down in any other Asian populated city, this place would just not survive. My daughter used to love to come here until she explored and ate more authentic ramen and widened her palate, and after this visit she said she will not want to come again. I came up to visit friends & they said I had to check this place out. Both enthusiastically also suggested I try the Tan Tan Men, so of course I did. Honestly one of the best things I've eaten in weeks. It was spicy but maintained a very rich & savory flavor. The noodles weren't overcooked & added a great texture. This photos is a few bites in because as SOON as I smelled it I had to start eating. There was also a ton of food. I will start this review by saying I would go for a 3.5 for this place, but cannot give it 4 stars. The good: i love when ramen places have a decent vegetarian selection. I got the vegetarian bowl with spicy miso and added in tofu (extra dollar). The size of the bowl (takeout) was a good portion. The not so great: I wish the broth had a little more depth of flavor to it. It had a good initial taste but then fell flat. Additionally, I wish the takeout containers were more flat and round to mimic a bowl, rather than a large quart size plastic container for the broth, which made it difficult to eat without having to transfer the food into one of my own bowls. Went here last weekend as my son wanted to try a ramen bar for his birthday.... One word..."EARTHY". HAHA. Tasted a little like dirt noodles. I guess I just don't have the palate for it. The soup was kind of tepid. Not hot. Noodles were ok as noodles go. Broth was meh (spicy Miso). Spicy Pork was meh. Like I said, I just don't think I've got the palate for this food. I haven't had ramen bar since it first opened when I was in high school. I recently ordered delivery from here and I was not disappointed. I got tan tan men and an order of vegetable egg rolls. The tan tan men was pretty good. I found the base flavorful and just the right amount of spice. I was a big fan of the egg rolls - it came with four mini pieces. Great for sharing! Ramen Bar is a great place to come for if you're looking for some Japanese comfort food. I don't think it's the best ramen in Pittsburgh however it's still very good. The atmosphere is very casual and laid back. It's a great place to stop in for lunch. Every time I've been there's been no wait at all which is awesome. Some of the ramen I've had is the Tom yum ramen, vegetable ramen, the ajo ramen, and seafood ramen. My personal recommendation is the seafood ramen with ajo broth add tofu and kimchi. It's sooo good. Also for appetizers make sure you get the takoyaki. They're fried dough balls with octopus in the middle. It sounds intimidating but trust me it's delicious. read more

Fantastic, so authentic, interesting, and unique. Love this restaurant. Vegetable egg rolls were phenomenal. Four small rolls per an order, so I'd recommend two orders for four people. The gyoza dumplings weren't as popular amongst the family, but decent. I wouldn't get them again. Tan tan men soup was rated #1 by our family and was a waiter recommendation. Tom yum men soup was also a favorite. Flavorful and bright! Ramen wu was good, not first choice however. Wonton shoyu had very flavorful pork and the dumplings in it were top notch. I come to The Ramen Bar every couple of months to get the same exact Ramen (Tan Tan Men). I've have this dish with all the possible flavors (Seafood, Pork, Beef, Chicken, Tofu). My favorite is the chicken, but the best in my opinion is the seafood(they are all great). The Ramen bar can be a nice date spot as well as a group outing. Underwhelming. I ordered a chashu ramen and it's stunningly plain. Maybe I am too used to the sides that goes with the ramen bowl at other places. The BEST Ramen in Pittsburgh!! My boyfriend and I used to go here once a week. The gyoza potstickers are some of the best I have ever had. Their ramen has the perfect amount of flavor. The service is quick, tables and seating are nice, there is a cool Japanese culture vibe about it (even though Chinese people run it), and of course, the ramen is good. Most ramen places have the just-right, chewy ramen noodles, as does Ramen Bar, but what separates this place from others is the meat and the soup. Meat is cooked so that it's still very juicy, which is hard to come across, and it's flavored very well. I used to come here very often when I went to school nearby, and I have to say the flavors have stayed as good as they were before! I ordered the Curry Ramen ($10.50) and my friends ordered the Ramen "Wu" ($10.50) and Vegetable Ramen ($10.00) (the prices on the menu online are incorrect). The soup in my ramen was perfect and delicious, not too thick and not too watery, and the mashed up carrots (or some other type of vegetable) in it gave it a very homey feeling. The pork was a good texture and full of flavor. I tried a bit of the egg drop soup in the Ramen "Wu", and it was also so good, I almost regretted not ordering that! We came in on a Sunday at around 3:30pm, and the restaurant was about 90% full which is crazy! Our food came out very quickly and just the right amount of hot to start eating immediately without burning our mouths. I docked a star because I really disliked the attitude of our waitress. It was almost like she went out of her way to be rude, for example asking me to move my menu while sounding impatient so she could set down my glass of water, even though there was plenty of other table space around me! She really soured my mood for the whole meal whenever she stopped by, which wasn't even that often. I would definitely consider stopping by Ramen Bar next time I'm in Pittsburgh, but I might take a peek inside to see if that waitress is around before deciding to dine there or not. read more
