Ambience : nothing extraordinary.. quite basic Service : it started off well but got worse as the food started to come. In the vegetarian bowl we didn't want an egg but they added it. We ordered an appetizer which was given as an entree. The waiter apologized abd said we will take it off your order. The bill came and this where things went off the wall, they added extra for the egg, the HH items were $5 each but they charged $6. I love Ramen Kagawa! I don't eat pork so I regularly order their Spicy Miso Paitan Ramen. Which to me it is the best chicken ramen I've ever ordered in Arizona and I'm not of a fan of miso if that says something idk. However, I did not give full five stars because I do think that it can be a hit or miss sometimes. Also whenever I have gone alone or in a group it's only one waitress receiving and waiting on tables that I have had to wait 15+ mins to place my order. Hopefully in the future Ramen Kagawa is able offer an additional waiter/waitress during busy times to relieve the pressure off of one person. But hands down I'd still recommend for people to visit Ramen Kagawa :). read more

Had the unagi don, saw how they microwave my unagi, and the rice smelled sour and old, and floors looked dirty, and they fill up water jugs from the sink where they was there hands. I've missed having ramen in the downtown area for a while now so I was very excited to see Ramen Kagawa opening shop. I ordered a Spicy Miso Tonkotsu with added Ajitama Egg. The standout was the Chashu! It was round, charred, and melted in my mouth. The broth was spicy without overpowering the rest of the flavor. Noodles had plenty of broth sticking to them. Also ordered some Takoyaki and loved it. The octopus bits were nice and big. Probably won't subject myself to that much food if alone again but I was excited to try it! Definitely going to add it to my rotation of food and looking forward to trying the other broths and the curries. My only mild complaint is that it didn't come with egg in it by default but that's far from a deal breaker. read more

Short Review: This is the real deal, a real good ramen shop. Service was adequate. However, inside weren't complete yet. From floor to walls and onto tables and such, they have not decorate and furnish yet, but can't say I blame them since this is just their soft opening. Regardless, depending on how their business will do, I look forward to being a regular here as long as they keep everything consistent and some minor changes in the future. For more details, read below. Long Review: Kagawa Ramen is a newly established Japanese restaurant located downtown of Phoenix. Going here, as many people may know what downtown entails, the traffic sucks, but more importantly, the parking sucks. You'll either find parking meters or a few construction parking area, in which, you'll have to walk a minute or two to get to your destination. It's definitely a hassle, especially at night if you prefer ramen for dinner, but during the day time, it's not so bad. For the moment, Kagawa Ramen isn't open to dine-in, unfortunately, but they accept take-out. You can either order by phone, website, or directly going inside the store to order. Please note that you obviously will have to wait if you ordered inside the shop and the wait can range from 5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on the traffic of customer's order. So, I highly recommend just ordering in advance by phone or online. Otherwise, getting here, on the outside, I like the touch of glass doors and their windows just sparkly clean (newly constructed). Their shop sign, however, still have not been updated. It is just a banner with their name shop. On the inside, there really isn't much going on. Everything is uncompleted with woods still hanging without it be painted and furnished. However, because this is their soft opening, that's perfectly fine. Their service was great. They try their best to do what they can and apologize for any inconvenience that happen even when it's not a big deal. For instance, in my case, they had trouble printing the receipt for me. They also forgot about my side order of Takoyaki, in which, I checked before leaving and they apologize for forgetting my order. As such, they gave me a free green tea bottle for the inconvenience, I would suppose. Again, it's not a big deal, but I do appreciate their approach on my situation. Some restaurant usually don't give a damn. So, kudos for them. Anyway, their menu was relatively small, so it was easy to choose what to get. I got their Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen with extra chashuu and Ajitama Egg, and Takoyaki. It took about 10 minutes total for all my food to be ready in a to-go box. Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen: This ramen broth was bold and full of flavors tingling your tongue and nose. Together with the rich broth and their firm straight noodles, it was easy to be overwhelmed by such great depth of the ramen and I haven't even got started with their toppings. Their chashuu almost melts in your mouth. It's not quite soft, but wasn't dry or chewy, which was a plus. Chashuu flavor was just spot on and I like the fact that the cut was circular and big. Despite only giving you initially two pieces, it's still a big piece with a decent thickness. The Ajitama Egg, on the other hand, perhaps, the best egg in a ramen you could ever ask. granted, it was a little salty on the side, but had full of flavor from the inside and out. Otherwise, you get some greens, raw onions, etc. My few disappointment is it needs more greens (seaweed, bamboo shoot, etc) and that despite the broth was great and all, it is too salty. For future note, please make the broth less saltier for better grip of the flavors. Also, it's not as spicy despite getting it spicy. Takoyaki: Great fried octopus balls. I like the fact that they did not cheapen the octopus inside. Many Japanese restaurant now these days cheapen the takoyaki making it only fried bread with a tiny portion of octopus leg inside. I hope they keep it consistent here. Otherwise, they should add more eel sauce, bonito flakes, and add kewpie mayo if possible. Overall, I had a great ramen, but not so much on experience (for one, there is no dine-in, at the moment). For quantity, it is a C+ and for quality it is an -A. I have not doubt about the goodness quality of the ramen except the saltiness. It needs to be less salty for better flavoring. However, my huge disappointment was the portion. For a $12.50 bowl, I'm not only getting a small bowl, but the portion of everything, it's a bit expensive. Not to mention, it cost me extra $2 for just one full egg and $3 for 2 chashuu pieces. I'm sorry, but either decrease the price or add more of everything. Otherwise, this would probably be my new ramen place that isn't too far from my home and work place. read more

I ordered takeout from this ramen joint, and I got the tonkotsu ramen and karaage. The karaage was pretty good - crunchy and well-marinated - but the ramen left more to be desired. The broth was flavorful, the egg was perfectly cooked, and the noodles were ok, but for some reason there were raw, chopped red onions in the ramen. Don't get me wrong, I love green onions on ramen, but raw red onions are a very random addition. Some alternatives that make more sense: wood ear mushrooms, lettuce, other greens, bamboo shoots. The portion size was also rather small for the price, and you have to pay extra for the egg (comes out to $15). I would maybe come back if a friend wanted to come here, but otherwise I would opt for trying other ramen spots. read more

We ordered three different varieties of Ramen. One had ribs in it, one was spicy pork and the other was chicken. The spicy pork was definitely way too spicy but the flavors were there. Both of the other Ramen's were good. We ordered two appetizers. One was sausage links. Those were good. We ordered the fried pancake balls. The first ones given to us were frozen in the middle. Then they served us more but they weren't cooked all the way through. It was still batter on the inside and all mushy cake. Like when you half cook a pancake. It was nasty But I'm sure if it was cooked alllllllll the way then it would have been good. But I wasn't about to ask for a third to have them remake. read more

It's the best ramen spot downtown Phoenix has had. The broth is as solid as it comes. Probably been here 10 plus times, because it's such a great little joint for togo or dine in. Beware the habanero ramen it's no joke, not for the faint hearted, just don't order it and then complain it was too hot. Definitely think this is the best ramen in Phoenix. The spicy tonkotsu and regular tonkotsu are the most flavorful, with the rib being a novelty but not something I keep ordering. The noodles have great texture and the soup holds to the noodles while eating. Adding Ajitama egg is a must. Also enjoyed the gyoza and takoyaki. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. My expectations were high and I love ramen. Having traveled to Japan extensively, I have a list of my fav hole in the wall spots there. And growing up in LA, there are many great places. Well, I thought the tonkotsu ramen was just average. Not great, but not bad. We had the potato koroke, and that was good.
