Ramen Nagomi has been on my list of places to try and since I had to pass through the area after work, I decided this would be the perfect opportunity for a solo lunch date. Ramen Nagomi is located on busy West Main Street. There is street parking and there's also a parking lot behind the building. You will have to take one of the side streets to get to the parking lot. When I arrived on an early Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant was empty. I was greeted by the waitress who sat me at a table. After looking over the menu, I decided to get the Cucumber Salad and the Shoyu Ramen. Everything came out pretty quickly. As I was eating, several people came in to place or pick up to-go orders. I really loved the Cucumber Salad. It was topped with pickled vegetables and had a ponzu dressing. The Shoyu Ramen was pretty tasty as well. The waitress provided me with chili oil to add to the ramen. This gave the ramen a nice kick. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. This place has a nice vibe to it. We've been to the N Brunswick location once. While we did enjoy the ramen there, have not returned since the parking is a bit of a hassle. This place also does not have a parking lot. However on a weekday night the lot behind it (few minutes walk) had plenty of spots. We were able to get a seat right away as there were a few open tables. Just like the N Brunswick location, its good, flavorful ramen. They don't give a lot of meat, but what they do give is cooked well. However the pork I got was really fatty... This place has the best ramen, on par with places at which I've dined in NYC. The ambience is very pleasant - minimalist decor, open seating in the front and more private seating in the back. Hosts are typically very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. It's very clean inside as well. The only critique I have for the interior is that there is only one unisex restroom, which I've always found annoying (but it's kept very clean in my experience). I've gotten several varieties of ramen: shoyu, tonkotsu, shio (pork), tori paitan, burnt garlic... I've tried the truffle butter and miso crab (bites from my dining partner). My favorite is tori paitan, then tonkotsu, then shio, shoyu. The broths are delicious! Full levels of flavor and smoothness/richness. You can tell they're slow-cooked. The pork belly is lusciously delicious, tender with just enough fat. They give you a good portion of 3 pieces. Noodles are awesome, nice and springy. The toppings are also tasty and just the right amount. Portions are large (I can never finish). I love the soy sauce egg, always cooked well. I'd say the crab was my least favorite, as it is imitation crab, and for some reason, the broth soaked up much more into the noodles than the other soups. Burnt garlic is next least favorite - the flavor profile just wasn't right for me, can't place a specific reason but it didn't taste too great. Truffle was super rich and creamy (too heavy for my taste, but definitely good). Other tidbits - the cucumber sunomono salad was good, as was the fried gyoza and the fried squid. Prices are pretty on par with other ramen restaurants in the area. I will always come back here for a good lunch. Remember - street parking is paid, so don't get a parking ticket like I did the last time. Free parking is behind the building. Enjoy! read more

This ramen spot is among my top 3 choices whenever I am craving a good ramen experience. It is a small basement located in downtown. Very easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Once you find it you are always welcomed by a friendly staff. Its location with the lack of free parking makes it a bit harder for a typical lunch, so my usual game plan is to stop here for ramen and down the road for cocktails to make the most of it in one go. The food is totally worth it and keeps me coming back. My go-to ramen is the tonkotsu. The broth is full bodied and the flavors are well balanced. This time I accompanied it with chili oil and it added an extra layer of flavor, that if you haven't had it yet and you like spicy highly recommend you should try it. The karaage is among the best I've had from all Japanese restaurants I've been to. Not too salty, perfectly seasoned and fried and a nice sauce to accompany it. I am so happy a good ramen place opened up by my house. All of the dishes are decently sized and are well priced as well. The rock shrimp was my favorite appetizer. Every time I think I have tried some of the best ramen in NJ, I am pleasantly surprised and that is just what happened here. We had to wait about 20 mins on a Friday night. The restaurant is not very big so I recommend putting in your name and grabbing a drink nearby. Once seated, we had our order taken right away. You can go wrong with the spicy miso - pork belly, a perfectly cooked gooey egg, tender noodles, swimming in a delicious broth that you will want to slurp every last drop of. Trying out different spots in the neighborhood and I decided to get some ramen today. I found this spot on a yelp list of good food in freehold. Ramen is a delicacy and I split this rating into different categories. Starting off with arguably one of the most important aspects; the noodle. 'The Noodle' 3/5 : The noodles had a ok texture, they weren't as thick as I prefer, and they were giving instant ramen noodle vibes. I'm not sure if they're home made, but overall I give them 3 stars . 'The Broth' 3/5: Don't let this steer you, as I am a tough critic when it comes to ramen. I do have to admit the moment the broth touched my mouth the first thing I thought was SALT. I prefer a broth that leans more on the slow and perfected process of marinating that pork bone flavor, than those who over do the salt. After getting over that initial taste, the broth is tasty and not too heavy and also not too light. Great miso taste although I wasn't getting much umami flavor. The toppings were decent, the menma was very fresh and soft w a nice bite. The soft boiled egg was very tasty. Mushroom, scallion, and nori really topped it off. The ambiance of the spot is so calm and peaceful. The white and grey wood detailing really opens the spot up, as it's not that big. Very cozy. I would try this place again, and definitely try one of their appetizers. They had a lot of options and from the reviews they look great.
