Calm environment with a very respectful staff. I've been to this location a handful of times, however, after having Aida as my server, I couldn't help but to request her if she's working! She holds great knowledge when it comes to the menu and helped me find my favorite plate here (kimchi & fried chicken ramen)! I ordered ramen-san for delivery over the weekend based on the amazing reviews. As a vegetarian, i was excited for a hearty vegetarian option. However, the entire experience was disappointing. Not only did my delivery arrive late, but the contents were sloppy as if they were thrown in without care. I ordered the imperial ramen and glazed chinese broccoli. I was surprised to find how small the portions were. Perhaps ramen is best eaten as a dine-in option because I was very disappointed with the delivery experience. Definitely enjoyed the space - we sat inside right at front with the large windows open overlooking the nice outdoor seating. Service was great - our server was helpful and friendly. However, the food was even less memorable than their other location. Do note that their menu here is a bit different. I had the spicy yuzu and it was just meh. Nothing really came together in that bowl. I felt like portions were also a bit smaller. What was good here was their soft serve. Great ramen. I couldn't eat it fast enough, thankfully it came out hot but not boiling so you can dig right in. Happy I got it spicy. The noodles are perfectly chewy and the broth has good flavors. They have interesting variations and I enjoyed trying them. Get the dumplings, any of them, so good. Their asahi beer is really cold and goes great with the ramen. Sadly, I have to give this place a thumbs down. This was my first ramen in the area and it was disappointing, to say the least. Ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen. The broth was forgettable and too salty and instead of delicious, thinly sliced pieces of Chashu pork, I received hefty squares of pork belly that were hard to chew instead of melt in your mouth delicious. Also decided to try the buns. The sauce was sloppy and pork belly on this was overcooked and chewy. Unfortunately, have to give Ramen-San a pass. :( read more

This a good ramen house but not quite authentic. The broth should be the main component that keeps you coming back but honestly my kim Cher chicken was too spicy to notice the subtleties of excellent ramen broth. Tone it down! Keep the main thing the main thing! The noodles were ok. The hamachi nigiri was a nice fresh touch, and the fried chicken bun was ok. Service was excellent! The soft serve ice cream kept it light for dessert. One should never feel stuffed when leaving a ramen shop, just satisfied. Trust me that is the way it is in Japan. read more

Pretty terrible Friday night experience. The waitress visited the table about two times the whole time we were there, and mostly got the order wrong each time. When it came time to pay she completely ignored one of the cards that we had put down with the bill - a mistake we only realized after everyone had already signed their checks. Bottom line - don't go here on a weekend or expect to be largely ignored by a ghost of a waitstaff and pay more than you're supposed to because they can't be bothered to run another credit card given to her. read more

Tried this place recently for lunch as it was on my list of restaurants that I follow on Instagram. I am pleased to say that I had a great experience here. The place looks awesome, the service is great and the food is excellent! I had one of the lunch specials and it is definitely a great bang for your buck. I left feeling content and just when I thought I couldn't fit another bite, Matt offered us a complimentary homemade pinapple ice cream with caramel on the inside of the cone. This is usually a go to Ramen spot in the West Loop but the food today was off - about as bland as ramen gets. The Brussel sprouts were delicious but minimal. The wings were 6/10. There's too many options for Ramen so this was disappointing to say the least. read more

Loved our time at Ramen-San. Our waitress was great, asking about food allergies and was able to tell us which dishes to steer clear of, etc based on the allergies in our group. Well I came here this afternoon to try ramen and I'm extremely picky so I do feel the soup was incredibly bland and definitely lacking in salt but i kept it simple so I avoided anything labeled as super spicy not realizing that their more simplistic ramen priced at $13 would be so flavorless. I ordered tofu ramen and I didn't detect salt or spice in the broth but I was starving so I still enjoyed it up until the fact that when I truly wanted to pay and leave my server was nowhere to be found and the house music playing super loudly made my ear drum ring. At that point I lost my patience and asked for my bill explaining to her that I enjoyed my ramen but I couldn't stomach the loud throbbing monotonous music. She apologized and refused to charge me for the ramen. Honestly I felt bad left a tip and left. If you are seeking traditionally prepared and authentic Japanese ramen this isn't the best place for that but the servers were friendly, the food about average and the music is hip hop and much too loud for my taste . if you don't mind the hip hop and you aren't expecting a traditional gourmet Japanese ramen shop then give this place a try. It's way too loud for me here but I prefer traditional rock or at least relaxing ambient beats that won't blow out your eardrums. I'm very particular with regards to ramen but if you don't have such high expectations and you can handle really loud house music you might enjoy this place. read more

I absolutely love Ramen San. I believe is the best Ramen in Chicago. Every time we go we always leave very happy but unfortunately this location is horrible. Horrible HORRIBLE service, the Hispanic girl was super rude as well as the white pregnant girl. They all look depressed and with a horrible attitude. If you don't like your job just find another one. I love this place and their food. I come here with my boyfriend a lot however last night wasnt very good service at all we were there at around 10pm. The waitress that attended us wasnt very good she checked up on us once we were trying to get the check and she was just talking on the table next to us with a friend that was eating there too she wasnt attentive at all. Ate in the patio today and I was so impressed! There are about 8 tables outside and it's first come first serve. They've set up a counter to order from outside and they will bring the food to your table. Pork fried rice is available all day and it was amazing. Ok, so total Ramen Novice here. My girlfriend REALLY REALLY wanted legit Ramen for her birthday and after attending the Bulls getting shat on by the Raptors we decided to head over to Ramen-San. We walked in about 10pm and were seated immediately. The server came over to ask.for drinks if we had any questions. We did because we've never been to an actual legit Ramen spot. She answered every question without hesitation and I started off by ordering two of the pork belly, and fried chicken thangs on the puffy bread(total ramen novice vocab). FLAME. FIRE. SO GOOD. Mind you my girl is very pro veggie and refused to even take a bite. Fine, maxed. Then came time to order our Ramen. I got the popular item on the menu, added shroomies. My girl got her veg option and we waited maybe 15mins. Total Ramen novices remember we were pretty pumped at the looks of our dishes. Sure enough we began eating and could not stop. Like literally. How my girl had the time to learn how to use the chop sticks she was given is beyond me. I skipped the teaching lesson and went innnnn with the big spoon. Zero F's given. It was AMAZING. Now I don't have anything to compare it to but as you can tell if I'm writing a review about it, something I do rarely, you know they're doing it right. First time here. Did not disappoint. Made a reservation. Showed up and looked pretty busy on a Saturday evening. I wanted a spicy soup and they gave me what I wanted. Something that hurts but your able to finish all the way through. Wings were delicious. Dumplings were great. And the small fluffy pork taco looking things stole the show. And they have a pretty decent Japanese whiskey selection with decent prices. Service was great too. Waiter guided us through the experience and answered any questions we had. Came in Friday night 11/8/19 at around 7:30pm. The girlfriend and I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and we finally did. Place was packed but we were greeted with a very nice hostess who assured us we'd be seated as soon as possible and if we wanted to have a drink at the bar we can while waiting, so we did. We walk up to the bar and the bar tender was super nonchalant. He had an attitude and pretty much just nodded his head to see if we wanted anything. I bought two sake bombs and he pretty much just rolled his eyes at us. (Unfortunate start to the dinner). We sat at the bar for an hour and after the sake bombs he ignored us the entire time while catering to the two ladies next to us reassuring they were okay. I asked him for the drink menu and 10 minutes later he slides it at us not even asking what we wanted. After that I was pretty upset but luckily they had the nicest hostess seat us. Dinner was great. We both had the fried chicken buns, and fried chicken/kimchi ramen which was very good. We also waited to have more drinks so the waitress could have the better tip. If only they had a nicer bartender the experience would have been a near 5 star experience.. read more

I went to Ramen-San a few weeks ago with a few colleagues and it was the worst dining experience I've had in the West Loop. The service was awful. The food was average. This place is not suited well for that part of town. I don't recommend this place for any social outing. read more

I can explain the experience I had at this location when coming here dining with my friends from out of town I took them to one of my favorite Ramen joints unfortunately I should've went to the one on Hubbard Street like I always do! thinking the brand was the same I had a kimchi ramen And my friend's had the sliced pork Ramen we all thought that the broth taste like fat water mixed with oil. Ordered two appetizers one of them was the chicken nuggets and the other one was the wontons. We all agreed the best thing there was the wontons taste very similar to the Hubbard location the nuggets that was in the Ramen tasted like it was under a heat lamp for hours and it was cold.the Nuggets that we got for appetizers was fresh big huge difference but lacked flavor we did not even taste the lime zest!!! I don't understand why they don't put fresh nuggets in the Ramen. my advice definitely avoid this location staff wasn't that friendly either! read more

Insanely good. We eat out every week, and rotate family members choices. Today was our teen's choice, and he wanted Ramen. I'm not a huge ramen fan (I don't like Furious Spoon--but it's one of his faves), so I told him to find something different. We read great things about High Five, and given that it was a Monday night, I hoped there wouldn't be an hour wait. We arrived at High Five and there was over an hour wait. Enter Yelp and we found the new Ramen-San on Green St, just two blocks north of High Five. I'm so glad we did b/c there was no wait, Asahi on draft, terrific food and our waitress Marie was the best waitress on the planet. We started with the: - Crispy Berkshire Potstickers (phenomenal with the sauce), so good we had to get a 2nd order. Pricey at $9 for 5 potstickers, but they were my favorite thing. - Spicy Szechuan Wings- doesn't sounds Japanese, but who cares, they were terrific too. Another win for the spicy wings and the fantastic sauce. - Spicy Soba Noodles- I can't even describe how yummy. The sauce, again. - Ramen- since we ordered 4 apps, we really should have just split two Ramen's, but we didn't and we were full by the time the Ramen showed up so we each had half a bowl of Ramen that we didn't eat. The Ramen was really good, but honestly, I thought the apps were even better. The guys ordered this and both loved it. - Ramen: Kimchi & fried chicken " fried garlic, buttered corn 16 and added the $5 xoxo stuffed wontons to theirs. $21 each - I ordered the Tonkotsu with added chili seasoning to give it a kick. Mine had a a few slices or delicious pork in it- it definitely needed the chili seasoning or else it would have been bland. - Ramen: Tonkotsu " traditional broth, chashu, molten egg 15 - We each ordered the desserts: Choc Chip ice cream in a cone (bland), pineapple ice cream (too sweet) in a cone, and the donut (just meh). We weren't really a fan of any of the desserts. I wouldn't order the desserts if I went back. - I would focus on the apps b/c they were amazing - I'd split a Ramen between two people b/c while it was really good, they are big, focus on the apps. - I'd go there more often just for the really over- priced potstickers. ;-) read more

Stopped by here randomly on the way home from work. There are a couple ramen options in the area but my boyfriend and I decided to stop here as it seemed inviting from looking in the window. We were promptly seated and given time to look at the menu. I opted for the Imperial Shio (requested spicy & did not want the soft boiled egg) and it was delicious! The spice was just right and it was very flavorful. I really enjoyed the tofu as well. My boyfriend got the kimchi & fried chicken. He loves spicy things but was content with the spice level. He still added some of the spice on the table, because he's extra, but he said he would have still been pleased eating it as is. The chicken was crispy even after soaking in the broth for a while and it was also tender. His bowl was also very flavorful and he really enjoyed it. This was his first time eating ramen and he thoroughly enjoyed it and was surprised that he was full at the end. We definitely will be back! read more

Ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen for delivery via yelp/Grubhub. It was delivered on time. But once I opened the container, I quickly discovered that my ramen dish had everything except the actual ramen noodles. This is like getting fried chicken without the chicken, or pizza without the dough, or fried rice without the rice, etc. You get the idea. read more

I visited Ramen-San again today after my first experience was ...just ok. Long story short, Im hooked! The food was obviously delicious (the mantou buns are my favorite things ever!) but it was the amazing service displayed by Brandon that really made dining here great. He was friendly, explained the menu thoroughly to my guest who is the biggest picker eater and constantly checked on us and filled our glasses. Except for the fact their ice cream machine was out of order, this trip was wayyyyy better than my first experience here and I will be back very soon. read more
