Have been here a couple times prior to the pandemic, and have stopped by their small patio a few times since their re-opening. They are being mindful of making sure that everything that is used in terms of glassware and plates is disposable, but are still offering their delicious ramen, drinks, and music to be enjoyed at the tables in front of and around their store-front. Very average experience for me. I went for dinner and ordered imperial shio ramen with spicy kimchi. The broth was a bit too salty but flavorful. Noodles were fine. But what I don't get is why put corn in the ramen. Seems a cheap way to add a veggie to the ramen. You have so many better choices of veggies besides corn to put in the ramen. I know they have menu items to add to ramen but default veggies in ramen shouldn't be cheaply available veggies like corn. You are charging $16 for a broth and noodles so at least add a decent veggies or shiitake mushroom by default. read more

Late evening as a guest of town visited Ramen San at Fulton Market location. We are fond of Ramen soups and were looking just for that one to comfort us at a nasty weather of the last day of April 2019. Cozy seating, cozy place , not loud music, very attentive and caring personal. The meal was very tasty, plenty of it . We tried Manton ban with pork belly - spicy delicious and great with beer. Then our soups - lots of it. WE enjoyed the meal and the comfort of the place. Leaving we take the left overs and even asked for the extra broth that was provided gladly. Everything was great. Maybe the price was too high - around $80.00 for 2 of us. But...it is Chicago. I have been visiting this place since it opened. This is my first review and I'm happy it's a good one. While food in chicago is always amazing, the service can often times be a challenge. Ramen-San is different. It has impeccable service and everyone is so genuine. I don't care if you're the best restaurant in chicago.... You better have great service and this is it! We went to the Hubbard Street location and loved it, literally two days ago. Came here tonight and ugh I wouldn't return again. Service was so slow and by the time we got our ramen and late night fried rice the rice dish was cold. Our server just kept doing laps and never once asked how was the food or was everything ok or even thought to apologize for us waiting for 50 minutes to get one ramen and one "late night fried rice". Customer service is definitely not consistent at each location. And when we were ready and finished he just asked, "do you guys just want the check?" Way to up-sell buddy. Like many people familiar with the area, I'm so happy and relieved to find a good noodle shop that doesn't require hours of waiting. I had the spicy chicken ramen and the broth wasn't as oily as a typical tonkotsu ramen. The smoke chicken tasted good with the soup. I might even go ahead and recommend getting that noodle refill because you'll want to keep slurping. The kimchi ramen is the closest thing to Korean taste; Koreans generally do not like the feeling of pork broth. A lot of Korean packaged ramen will taste cleaner and this kimchi broth reminded me a lot of that. read more

A hip hop ramen shop. Uh, yes. Where I am from, ramen isn't common so anytime I travel, I find ramen. A local went with me after telling me it was the best in my area. Came to Ramen-San for lunch and got that ramen craving satiated. Service was fast and friendly, and the barkeep sold me on the special of the day, a "Fatty" Ramen - including carnitas-style pork, tonkatsu broth, green onions, and maybe something else. The noodles were not overcooked, but still had a good chewiness to it - the texture that I liked. Went to this place because my friends suggested it. The food is hit and miss. Some of the ramen like tonkatsu is on point; great broth. The kimchi ramen and the wings are decent.   The customer service on the other hand is mix feelings. We had couple servers that were serving us. One was really friendly and the other just didn't seem like she wanted to be there.  When the server came around, I asked her for her name because I don't know what is our server's name and if we can get the bill. The person responded defensively saying "why do you need my name?".  I explained I don't know our server's name and like to get the check.  She explained she's the manager and doesn't need to give her name per company policy. She then tell me our server is Bridget.  I later found out the manager's name is Sahana.  I think Bridget is an excellent server, great customer service and very friendly.  However, Sahana's service doesn't seem professional; especially when you're a manager and is the face of the restaurant. I have been a weekly customer at Ramen San since I moved down the street last February. My girlfriend and I went soo much that we became close friends with the manager, Lucy, and even got to meet the Chef! This Saturday I went in with around 9:30. There was a "new night manager" whos name is Maggie. Maggie told our waiter not to serve us drinks. We stopped drinks three hours before we went but also were high. Our eyes red, which led her to saying we were"slurring words" or "falling over" which is all bullshit. She knew immediately she was in the wrong. I have never been soo offended at a restaurant and I want to make sure management knows Maggie did this. I am a weekly customer and will not go back if this is not handled. read more

This review is on a few take out orders, all of which have impressed me. They separate the ingredients for you which prevents them from getting soggy and I love how they put the ingredients in an actual bowl and the soup on the side, in a separate container, which makes it easy to heat up if it gets cold in transport. My boyfriend and I came here two nights ago and we had a great time! Our server Kayla was simply amazing. We arrived 30 minutes to close, and you rarely get a cheerful attitude from servers when you come right before closing time, but Kayla was really happy to serve us. I would preface that I find that a lot of people have different preferences when it comes to their ramen so take my review with a grain of salt. I had the shio ramen and was underwhelmed. The broth was oilier and saltier than I'd like. The noodles was harder than I would like would like as well. The egg might've cooked during the delivery route which was unfortunate - I was hoping the 10 min wouldn't have made a difference! I also ordered the matcha puff as an extra treat for mom-ing extra hard today - but the puff itself was what was extra hard. Great place for a relaxed date. I've been here for lunch and dinner, and the lunch special is definitely a great deal for what's included. Dinner is pricy, but if you make it in time for happy hour (which is everyday 4-6pm), they have some appetizers and drinks at a very reduced price. The tonkotsu ramen came with 3 pieces of thick chasu (braised pork belly), half an egg, bamboo shoots and seaweed. I added an additional half egg to my tonkotsu and my boyfriend added the fried chicken to his tonkotsu and it wasn't that good. The fried chicken was too dry. I thought the overall ramen was mediocre. The broth was decent. The egg was perfectly cooked with a semi-runny yolk but it didn't taste like it was marinated at all. I wasn't a fan of the chasu. The chasu cuts were thick but I thought it was too sweet. The bottom half of the pork belly was too lean for my liking. I also wasn't a fan of the ambiance. It was too dark but luckily there's two tables next to the window so we sat there. We got there at 3:50pm so it was not busy at all. There were only 4 tables seated in the entire restaurant. The service was extremely slow. Our waitress actually had a shift change and we didn't even know. Typically the waitress notifies their table if we get a new waitress but they didn't. I was looking for our current waitress for a long time to get our bill when I eventually figured out we had a waitress change. Both waitresses never checked up on us. We finally requested the bill. It took her 10mins to come back to get our credit card. She also didn't say thank you when she brought us our receipt. I did not have a pleasant time here. read more
