Got takeout here last week. Yes I ordered 3, don't judge me. Each had separated the broth from the rest of the ramen. Broth was rich and had a little spice, noodles and bamboo shoots (my favorite part of ramen 0 well maybe also the egg) were crisp. Broth was warm enough to dig right in and hit the spot. Okay, I was craving ramen after work so I decided to look some places around the area (was staying in VA for work for 2 weeks). Came across this place after a brief search and had a suspicion that it might be Chinese owned. Why do I have an issue with this? Because every time I go to a Chinese owned ramen shop, it tastes like Chinese beef/pork noodle soup. I've been eyeing Ramen Spot for a week or so now and finally had the chance to stop by this weekend. I brought my fiancee and also a co-worker and we checked it out. --Food: You don't go to a place called Ramen Spot and not order ramen! I had the Chashu Pork Ramen, which was a pork bone broth with roast pork (chashu), bean sprouts, scallions, black mushrooms, seaweed, bamboo shoots, and a half boiled egg. My dining companions had the Shrimp Tempura ramen and the Pork Katsu ramen, which is essentially the same as what I had ordered just with a different protein. We also ordered an order of chashu buns and fried shrimp shumai. First off, the ramen overall was pretty legit. Lots of accompaniments in the form of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, scallions, and seaweed. Though I will say each is lacking a bit in quantity. I believe I had two small bamboo shoots and zero black mushrooms (unless they got lost in the seaweed flakes). That said, everything in there was tasty. The pork was overall pretty lean, but had a nice flavor. (Fatty pork works marvelously in ramen, the only place I ever eat it.) The noodles were plentiful and a good texture combination of firm and chewy, but maybe a tiny bit soft towards the end of the bowl. (Maybe I was eating slow and they were still cooking though!) I was hoping the broth wouldn't be too salty, and it definitely wasn't. Almost to a fault, actually, since it could have been a touch more flavorful, but it still was good! My companions enjoyed theirs as well and more or less agreed with the above assessment. I wish the appetizers weren't $6 or so each since I would have ordered the whole menu! The shumai were very good, if not a little on the small side. The pork buns were good too, but one was a bit underfilled. --Cost: Appetizers are $5 - $8, and seem a little on the small side. I don't have any real complaints though since both items we had were good. Bowls of ramen range from $9.50 to $11.50, based on the protein. Seems like a good price point, and we left pretty full. --Atmosphere: For the most part, feels like a ramen-ya! Place has a nice vibe to it as well with a fun mural and decorations. --Service: Staff was super nice the entire time and they split the check as requested without any problems. We ended up going at 1:00 PM on a Sunday to avoid the crowd, and it was still pretty busy, but no wait line as mentioned in some other reviews. I would be hesitant on trying it during peak dinner hours, but probably will at some point. --Overall: I'm into it! I'll definitely be coming back to try some of the other ramen types like the Beef Curry ramen, and just about every appetizer. While there are plenty of noodles, meat, and broth, some of the other items almost feel like an afterthought, and I'm still about 75% sure I didn't have a single black mushroom piece in mine. Only other negative thing is that the broth could be a touch more flavorful, but I appreciate it not tasting overwhelmingly salty. Might not be my absolute top favorite ramen place in Richmond, but it is definitely top 3! I look forwarding to coming back and trying more of the menu! read more

It's a small little hole in the wall, and appears to be family owned. Service is good. And food is amazing! My favorite is the beef ramen bowl. The shrimp tempura appetizer is definitely my favorite app on their menu. And the location is also very convenient as well. Delivery service could be better. We were passing through Virginia Commonwealth University and walked around the campus and found the Ramen Spot tucked in a corner street. It was cold and raining and decided a bowl of hot ramen would be perfect to warm us up. The Ramen Spot is a small place, but it stole my heart when they had those pretty, pink Hello Kitty soy bottles. I'm a sucker for Hello Kitty. The friendly waitress greeted us and explained the different types of popular ramen bowls that most people ordered. We started out with appetizers: Japanese salad - crispy, ginger dressing with corn and thinly sliced tomatoes decorated around the plate. Fried squid - crispy battered calamari with a side a dipping sauce. The batter was actually tasty and crunchy. Pork gyoza - tasted fresh and not frozen, pan fried and crunchy around the edges. The first bite was juicy that we devoured it all in the first 3 minutes. The Ramen Spot was very attentive and remembered to place the shrimp tempura separate from the Udon noodles as my friend was allergic to seafood. They actually cooked the Udon noodles in a separate pot, which made my friend very happy to learn that the kitchen staff made a great effort in doing so due to food allergies. Udon noddles - the broth was seasoned just right and the thick noodles was not over boiled. I ordered the Seafood Ramen and let me tell you, the scallops were so fresh. It was the actual scallops and not the frozen ones like most places. The fish cake was a delight and the shrimps were jumbo sized. The broth was everything! I most definitely slurped all of the broth for sure. For dessert, we delighted our sweet tooth for some green tea mochi ice cream. The Ramen Spot was the perfect ambience. Cold Weather = Yummy warm food = Ramen Spot!!! This spot is located on grace street right by Edo's Squid. It is a small location but has roughly 10 or so 4 seaters. We came during lunch time and were the 4th table seated, the place seemed to fill up very soon after 12:30. I am actually not a fan of Tenka ramen, but love Takara on the west end. I also love this little whole in the wall Blue Fish on the south side that also serves a good Mapo Ramen. I was happy to see that the lunch special for Ramen Spot $12 for a bowl of ramen plus a bowl of fried rice or tako yaki is available daily, even on the weekends. There were three of us and all of us happened to get the Tonkatsu Ramen. The best part was that we could get it spicy. The choices of spice level include: Spicy, Mild, Medium and Super Spicy. My mom and brother were both visiting in town. My mom got Medium, and both my brother and I got the Super Spicy. All three of us enjoyed it. The egg was cooked perfectly and the pork that came with it had a perfect amount of cattiness which I love. Super spicy was definitely spicy but we loved it. We also put in an order of Yaki Gyoza - Pork, for my kiddos. The gyoza came out piping hot and crispy. The gyoza sauce was spot on and had a good hint of spice. Two of us got the Tako Yaki each came with 4 pieces. In essence it is an octopus fritter. I would say it is one of the better Tako Yaki's I have had. This place is a bit overhyped imo, but they serve decent ramen, nonetheless. I've been here a few times, and the takoyaki (octopus balls) here are a must for me; however, they are on the pricey side. I was really hyped for the opening of the restaurant since Tenka Ramen is little bit farther away and Ramen Spot was a closer ramen shop for students to go to. The broth lacked a richness that should be there and the egg and pork weren't braised very well. One thing that I did enjoy was their Takoyaki. I returned a second time with my friends, hoping that maybe since they were busy with the grand opening, their broth was lacking because they were busy. I was disappointed to find out that it tasted just as plain. Also, not only was the ramen lacking, but my friend was served raw Chicken Katsu and got food poisoning the next day. They kept insisting that it was Japanese style chicken and did not take it back upon her request. Their service was also sub par. I kept trying to order Pork Katsu with miso soup on the side; the owner came herself and said it already comes with miso soup but on the menu the only dishes that come with miso soup are Teriyaki dishes. They were also very slow with drinks, taking orders, and the bill. The space is a little bit small but granted it's also a shop in the city so that's understandable. This has been my worst ramen experience in Richmond so far. Upon my arrival at The Ramen Spot it was busy. Approximately 6 people were ahead of me. In 15-20 minutes me and my guest were sat. I ordered the lunch special Tonkusto Ramen with a side of Fried Rice and Cha-Shu Bun. The Cha-Shu Buns were mediocre. Nothing spectacular nor bad about them. When the main course arrived the noodles were way too soggy and over cooked while the the broth flavor was a bit watery with a lack of flavor. I told the owner about the noodles and she explained how they just opened and apologized. They switched it out with new noodles, however I still was not satisfied. I wish this place was as good as I hoped it would be! The location is awesome (especially for VCU students), but the ramen is sadly not up to par if you're a ramen lover. read more

We placed an order here with a few friends on NY day. Everyones orders were correct except ours. We are vegan and asked for no eggs on our ramen. It came with eggs in it anyway. Disappointing but we understand mistakes happen and just removed them. The real issue was the taste. It was lacking in all of our entrees meat and vegetarian/vegan. It came down to needing some flavor from spices and salt. I would not try again, but I also don't live in the area. I haven't been a better ramen establishment than Ramen Spot. It's so sad I haven't been able to dine here while I still lived in Richmond and hearing all the great reviews; better late than never! The menu is pretty diverse and unique with dessert options as well. The staff were super friendly, but there weren't many tables so I could imagine it being packed on prime time hours. The wallpaper is pretty unique, it's like a brick wall paper it creates an illusion of going through some maze when you're making turns in the back to go to the bathroom; found it pretty cool. I couldn't pick what I wanted so I went with the spicy miso ramen. The ramen wasn't spicy at all, but it had a slight kick to give it flavor. It came with a piece of pork that was pretty tender. I also got the bao bun that came with pork inside; super tender and delicious. The baos were so "fluffy" and "delicious" according to my friend that shared that appetizer with me. Essentially what I'm trying to say is this place is bomb and I will definitely be back. Hopefully next time they will have the fish cake dessert in stock, apparently it's a hot selling item.
