Ordered General Tso Chicken which the menu gives you the option of salad or soup. Ordered salad. Then it gives you the option for white rice or fried rice for $2 extra. Spent $113, as I usually do when I come to this establishment. Choose fried rice as I have done many times. Told I can only have white rice. Asked if that was ok and I said no. I hadn't been to Sushi-O in years since I had the fly on my plate so I decided to give them a try again. I was happy to see that they made some changes to the menu and dropped the price on the sushi lunch specials. I ordered the spicy kani dip/salad to start and it was delicious. I went with the 2 rolls for $10 lunch special and chose a shrimp tempura roll and a Philly roll. The shrimp tempura was fine, nothing spectacular but I wasn't expecting to be blown away by a basic roll. The Philly on the other hand . I couldn't eat it. I tried one piece and pulled out what felt like a piece of bone. I hoped that was a fluke so I tried another piece and pulled something hard out of my mouth again. The salmon wasn't cleaned properly. My sever was pleasant and appeared to be in a good mood but the hostess seemed to be bothered that I came in. She didn't greet me or smile and I get it, service work isn't always fun but a positive attitude goes a long way. I've always liked the overall ambiance. Went to this restaurant for the first time last Monday for my birthday and I was presented with a plate of sashimi that was garnished if you can call it that an aquarium plastic flowers. I'm a chef graduated from Le Cordon Blue and on my first class this was one the first rules they gave us never use anything to garnish a dish for presentation with some thing that isn't edible. Whatever you use - whether it's a herb, spice, or a flower - it needs to be edible. Everything on your plate should be placed with the intention of elevating the dishes taste first, and the way it looks second. Plastic is considered cross contamination and should never appear on a edible dish. A sushi chef should know this especially since you're serving raw dishes. I wanted to get up and leave but stayed as a request to my husband who asked of me to be nice and maybe they will get the next dish right and he was so wrong. I will never eat here again. This was our go to sushi restaurant. My kid loves it. It was very busy tonight so service was very slow but understandable. No waters and menus for 15 minutes and when the waitress finally came over, we ordered what we always get and she still didn't even think to offer menus before taking our order. But, my kids vegetable tempera was undercooked. So much that flour was thick under the coating. Unfortunately, my kid was so hungry they ate them until I noticed the last piece. Sushi was not the norm either, was just really off. After alerting the waitress, not one "sorry about that" or anything. Sushi O has been one of our go to Sushi restaurants. Knowing it's under new ownership we didn't anticipate it to be any different or the quality of food would decline. One of the dishes we ordered was the 9 oz filet mignon and request it be cooked medium. It was served rare so the friendly server returned it. The server returned with the filet 15 minutes still a bit rare so she took it back again. 10 minutes later she returned with it still a bit bloody in the center. She called over another staff member to show him the problem and requested he prepare it and mentioned he was the head chef. 15 minutes later she returned with a well done 5 oz filet. Not want to appear to be difficult my friend accepted it. I personally would have cancelled the order. This should never happen if your charging $25 for a dish you can't prepare properly to your customers request and no adjustment to the bill. We won't be back! read more

I order takeout from here occasionally and haven't dined in yet. I love that they have a little outdoor patio, albeit overlooking a parking lot, but still, nice to have the option to sit outside on a nice day. Their staff has always been stellar, kind, smiling, and greeting you very cheerfully. It seems that they've had less dine in post covid though. Their interior looks a bit lackluster, with large open spaces. There rarely are a lot of people dining in when I go to pick up my food in the evenings. One thing I will add is that is the inside seems very dark, almost like it needs an upgrade or a bit of light cleaning. Perhaps it's the lighting, or the colors, or that they don't have many windows. After 2 disappointments in a row, I decided to take pictures and contact the owner about refunding my most recent specialty roll which was incredibly poorly prepared. To my dismay, not only would he REFUSE a refund but, he explained that because he could not SEE the roll and KNEW that he assembled that roll himself and was certain of its freshness, I was basically wasting my time. So, not only am I incapable of identifying old, over-ripened avocado and ill-prepped shrimp but, I am also a liar. Fortunately, this Pinnochio has proof. My four star rating is all about the happy hour specials.... not the rest of the menu In the midlothian area, you can't beat the happy hour specials that Sushi O offers. The menu items change, but Monday - Saturday at the bar you can get special priced drinks and food. My husband and I go here often for a night out the weekdays. We can go have a few drinks, sample different types of appetizers that I wouldn't normally try and get the special priced roll all for under $40. I really like the dumplings and the fried pot stickers. They also usually have the 007 roll on the menu, it's a smaller sized portion, but it's only $5 and so good! They have spicy chicken wings and other offerings. Basically, something for everyone to enjoy. Now for the rest of the menu... if you are looking to have a good sit down sushi experience. I don't know if I would recommend this place. I don't like being charged for substitutions especially if what I am picking is less than the option on the menu. For the food quality and the experience there are other restaurants on my sushi list that I would suggest. That being said... I will continue to come back to Sushi O for a happy hour or on a Sunday when my other favorite Sushi restaurants are closed. My biggest advice to management... listen to your customers if you have a sushi meal option and the customer says, I would like this meal, but I don't eat eel or red snapper, don't bring me eel and and red snapper and say sorry you can't request specific sushi items. Also if I want to substitute a veggie roll for the spicy tuna, don't charge me an additional dollar. I am saving you money. I haven't had the horrible service that has been described by others, but I know there are so many challenges keeping staff. Perhaps there is a correlation with the rules applied to the menu and why staff are hard to keep. read more

My girlfriend and I always come to this place for sushi. We both love the food and the service here. We also really enjoy the awesome reggae music they always have playing. The sushi rolls here are out of this world, I have a note on my phone of all the rolls that we've tried and I rate them all on how good they are. Some of my favorite rolls here include: key west, volcano, spicy girl, dragonfly, 3am, and eye off the dragon. The eye of the dragon roll was a special at the time and it was incredible and I wish they'd add it to their menu. The service here is constantly good and so is the food.
