My wife, a friend, and I came here for dinner after seeing its high Yelp reviews. It is very much a hole-in-the-wall eatery beside a Mexican store. I decided to order the 'wet burrito' with barbacoa which was absolutely massive and very tasty. And the price of it (~$9) was on par with a burrito from Chipotle considering it was even bigger than Chipotle's burrito. I would definitely get it again but would order it with the red sauce instead of the green. My wife got a taco and the quesadillas, which were ok (pretty standard Mexican fare). Our friend got the enchiladas, which, again, were pretty typical. We had the hibiscus tea for a drink, which was very good and came with a free refill. All in all, a very tasty meal. But I'm now falling asleep typing this as I fall into my Mexican-induced siesta/food coma. read more

I wasn't exactly blown away but left satisfied. I got the wet burrito because of the great reviews. I wasn't in love with the sauce on top which probably is a big reason that I wasn't blown away. FYI it was HUGE so it was a good amount for the price. I ordered carne asada as the meat and it didn't have a massive amount of flavor. The best Carne asada in Western WA. I love their tamales also, they aren't gritty and have the perfect balance of corn and pork. The stand out though is their Carne asada taco. So much delicious marinated beef, with the right amount of salsa and cilantro. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. I also tried their barbacoa taco, which was pretty tasty, but the Carne asada meat had a beautiful char that gave it a nice crispy texture and the meat itself was so tender and juicy. The tortilla chips are homemade and so is the salsa. They actually have 2 different kinds of salsa, a red and a green one. Their limeade is amazing! Totally refreshing on a hot day. Was staying in Tumwater on my way to SeaTac and found this place nearby - great low key family vibe. Market/restaurant with full bar. To go order of beef taco and chicken enchilada was very fresh, filling and reasonable :) my only recommendation, a small bag of your homemade chips and a small salsa will go a long way for the customers. will be back! read more

My wife recommended this place for their tacos, but their selection is pretty wide. The customer service is much better than most chains or sit down places. I had their Macho Nachos and they were amazing! Wonderfully made in house and Quick! From order to plate in less than 5 mins. Great establishment and will definitely return! I tipped. This is a grocery store with eat-in or to-go food. I was surprised by the prices -- higher than one would think for such and ambiance. However, if you aren't price sensitive, prepare to be wowed. For the PNW, this is pretty darn great Mexican food, including a stellar green salsa. That all said... the prices are high for a burrito... $11.99 before tax. So, check your local newspaper for a 15% off coupon and make sure they discount your food correctly; we got 4 entrees, and they discounted the cheapest ones... Um, no. Plus, they forgot the 4th entree and then the horchata and kept looking at our receipt to make sure they charged us for all these things. They clearly need a little work on their customer service -- check the receipt and then throw in an extra horchata for the extended wait!! Don't be fooled - this is the same five-gallon mass-produced freezer container beans, rice, sauces, and slop that every other US Mexican restaurant serves up. Tasty enough until you're done; then you feel sorry you ate it. Not all their restaurant food is this stuff of course; a lot is fresher ingredients. The tamales for example were homemade and delish but they were served with the crappy beans and rice slop. The sauces too tasted mass produced. I don't know; I've been there three times now and each time I don't come away with a "wow authentic" dining experience. Anyway, go to Ramirez for your Mexican groceries and foodstuffs - great place. Excellent service! Food comes out fast, all waiters are very friendly and the flavor of their dishes is very authentic :) We came here for breakfast, but everybody ended up ordering different things. My partner had the menudo, which came with the option of with porks feet or no porks feet. He opted out, but made it no less special. The flavor was to die for and for those who enjoy a real bowl of menudo, it's definitely a must try! My mother-in-law got served an extra taco by accident and was not charged for it, she also ordered a smothered tamale, which was new for us, but did not disappoint in flavor. Our table also enjoyed the huevos rancheros and chilaquiles, which were all pretty true to what you would expect from these dishes. I'll be going back for sure! read more

I have been going here for a long time and it is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. They make their chips in house which are slightly thicker than most tortilla chips. I personally love the thickness to them. They season their meat exceptionally here. The meats always have good flavor and are juicy. Since I have been going for years, I also know that they are consistent in their cooking. They are also reasonably priced and have good portions. Their store is also fun to check out. I would recommend checking out their meat counter since everything there is well seasoned. They also sell their homemade chips and corn tortillas there. I was in Tumwater trying to check out a few new local breweries in the area and had Ramirez Mexican Store come up in previous reading material as a solid place to go for Mexican food while in the Olympia area. I was not disappointed at all! I had a great Chile Relleno Burrito that tasted very fresh and had a great taste to it. It was a bit milder that what I am typically used to as far as heat and spice goes but this burrito still had the marks of being made carefully and with love. They had chips and salsa which were very good. The tortilla chips were homemade and had an extremely authentic aura to them. As I checked out I saw that they had fresh corn tortillas behind the counter. It was very, very tempting to get but I was very full and still had lots of stops to make in the Olympia area so I held off. This place is mostly restaurant but it indeed is a store too as they sell various kinds of baked pastries as well as piñatas which there was a great selection of as well as other merchandise. When I first moved to Tumwater 5 years ago this was our go to spot, but they've changed. The last 4 times I've eaten here the food was not good. The carnitas burrito I had yesterday was this massive, sloppy, uneven mess with very little meat. They're salsas have changed too. My second visit wasn't the best experience. I ordered the Mexican pizza with shredded beef. Don't know if it was the beef or something else but it had a very funky flavor and was very dried out. Ate less than half and left without a to go box. The service was horrible. The young girl ignored us for awhile, finally took our order but failed to bring my drink. I asked for it again and it never appeared. A man brought the food to the table so I asked him for the drink and it came right away. My impression was that the only way we would get service is if it was a table of really muscled young men. I'll give it one more chance but this was a lasting impression. read more

Used to be my place to go with friend's and family when they visit. My husband wanted a coke the waiter asked Mexican or regular. He went with regular and was brought a Mexican coke. After brining it to his attention he said, it's a coke no ice and I said he wants a regular coke. He did bring a regular coke but changed us for the Mexican. My husband's meal was also incorrect and had to be sent back. The food was nothing special. The lady I spoke with didn't want to even talk with me. I suggested the waiter write down the orders. The meat lacked flavor and there was way more rice than anything else in the burrito. It's WAY over priced too. Nearly $10 for it and not worth it. Plus you had to pay extra for salsa...like really? This is an interesting place. We were in the area and decided to try them out. When they say authentic - they are not kidding. You could be in a run down area of Tijuana and they would fit in. It is a restaurant either in the middle of a grocery store or a grocery store around a restaurant. Nothing fancy to say the least. The dinner was OK - I had the small Tacos and enjoyed them. The price is great and the tortillas were fresh and good. I will say the service leaves something to be desired and the breads/dessert they had - well never again. We got the Trio and the Bistec, absolutely amazing. We moved to Washington from TX and have been looking for a Mexican restaurant. This is probably the best Mexican food we have had since moving here. Better than the majority of places in TX that we have tried. Lots of flavor in the meats and the sauces were great. The salsa and chips were also good as a starter. It wasn't very crowded when we got there and picked up quite a bit. We had good and friendly service. This is exactly the kind of place I want to go to when I want Mexican food. You walk in, and it looks like you're entering a convenience store with randomly placed tables everywhere. There's a meat counter in the back selling really delicious looking cuts of meat, but this is actually a sit down restaurant! I ordered the enchiladas with verde sauce, and MAN it was good. Usually, verde sauce is just kind of a mild, less spicy sauce than the regular kind, but this one was flavorful and spicy and just heavenly. I would buy it in a bottle and slather it on anything I made at home. Pretty much anything. Other pluses include great service, delicious horchata, homemade tortillas, and reasonable prices. Visited Thursday night for dinner with the boyfriend before heading to the movies. I was excited to try the food after reading so many positive yelp reviews, and the storefront and dining area looked as I expected them to look upon entering the store. plastic chairs and tables set up near the ordering area for people that want to stay and eat, good-sized grocery area with a meat section and refrigerated foods. Was a little confused because it looked like there were two different order windows at two different ends of the store; never did figure out what the deal was with that. Good selection of items for purchase, and good prices on bread. We were there for food so we got straight to ordering. Was a little put off initially by the fact that as we walked in the door someone was asking what we wanted... I don't make decisions that fast sorry. Checked out the menu, and found that everything was $8 or more. Even the tacos were $2 each. I ordered 3 tacos (carne asada, pulled pork, and chicken), and the boyfriend ordered nachos with chicken and no onions. The bill was $15! You can get tortas and burritos almost anywhere for $5-$7 and here they were $8-$10- what is with the inflated pricetag?? Got our food and were both underwhelmed. Tacos were standard- server recommended the pulled pork and was correct; that was by far the most flavorful taco of the three. Nachos had long limp strips of onion even though they were ordered without onions, and the chicken was nowhere to be found on 3/4 of the dish. There was a taco-sized portion of shredded meat clumped in the middle and that was it. Overall I would probably shop at this place for a few cooking items but I wouldn't buy the food. Maybe my expectations were too high but it was just okay for me and the prices were more in line with a sit down restaurant. read more

There are a couple things that need to be considered here. 1. The Taqueria 2. The Groceries 3. The Deli 4. The Baked Goods The taqueria is top notch. A number of different meats, all with tons of flavor / seasoning. Al Pastor is great there, carne asada is choice, carnitas, lengua, and plenty more. I was slightly disappointed that they don't do a Chile Relleno burrito, because those are fantastic (The Chile Relleno when ordered separately was kind of dud). Tortas, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, all real tasty though. Homemade chips and salsa are also served when you take a seat. They've also got cool groceries. Lots of canned chiles and jalapenos, hot sauces, veggies, and more. They also have mexican mozzarella which is great and crema mexicana (mexican sour cream) which compliments homemade mexican food real nicely. Another awesome thing about this place is that it allows you to show off like you know how to make meat as good as they do. All the meats they serve there are sold either raw or cooked and still taste fantastic. I've picked up carne asade and al pastor there, both turned out wonderful cooked at home. They also sell their own tortillas. Both regular sized ones and ones to make large burrito cart / chipotle sized burritos. Yum. Haven't tried the baked goods, they look tasty though. I think you can also get one hell of a deal on Mexican phone cards there too, it seems that they sell about 60 different kinds and a few phones inside to make calls from. Certainly has it's quirks, but probably the best place in Thurston County to pick up some cheap mexican food. read more
