There are lots of places to eat in the greater Olympia area. Ramirez Mexican Store is one of the best for Mexican food. The store is not huge, but they have many items one would need to prepare a proper Mexican meal. The jewel though, is their restaurant. Attached to the store, it has Mexican decorations and roomy booths. Starting our meal, we were presented with fresh chips and salsa. The chips were crisp, flavorful, and properly salted. The green salsa was OUTSTANDING. We later had the red salsa, and it was very good too. Our waiter was timely, accurate and had a good sense of humor. We both ordered wet burritos. The pork with green sauce was ordered by wife, and it was huge, with a nice amount of sauce. The burrito was fully filled, and included spiced pork, rice, beans and guacamole and tomatoes. I ordered the chicken wet burrito with green sauce. It was well stuffed as well, with shredded chicken and all the components mentioned above. We bought chips and salsa from the store to take home. Great snack. We then returned two days later for dinner. We both had the chicken enchiladas. They are made with a standard corn tortillas, and you can choose between 1, 2, or 3 enchiladas, served with rice and beans, with a green or red sauce. The enchiladas were outstanding, fully stuffed with a mix of shredded white and dark meat. The green sauce had a nice amount of spice. The beans were very flavorful, and the rice was nicely seasoned. Love their chili verde burritos! Large portion size, generous amount of meat, and the verde sauce is delicious! At other places, the meat can be kind of tough, but here, the meat is usually quite tender. These are probably the best chili verde burritos I've had. read more

Authentic tacos and priced just right. This place is part Mex store and part restaurant. You'll start off with doubly thick chips with a large bowl of salsa. The chips are good but seem to be old as they weren't hot and a bit stale tasting. Placing that aside, I bite into their tacos! The tacos are stuffed with generous amounts of meat filling and be careful not to order too many tacos or else you won't finish them (max 3 is ideal)! Okay, so... when it comes to Mexican food, I'm probably one of the most pickiest critics out there. Why?? Because I'm from San Diego, home of some of the most authentic Mexican food out there. That being said, when I first walked into this place, I wasn't sure if I wanted to eat there or not. It's a store with eating areas on either side of it (odd). They have pictures of what they serve on the walls and a pretty large menu at the counter. When I first looked at the menu, I almost died... $8 for a burrito?! Are you kidding me? In fact, a lot of the items they have on their menu are $2-$4 more expensive than what you'd pay in SD. However, they do have specials each day ranging in price between $6-$7. I decided to get their tamales plate. Best choice I could have made!! The tamales themselves were delicious! The masa was moist, flavorful, and steamed perfectly. I ordered one chicken and one pork; the chicken came in a green sauce and the pork came in a red sauce. I enjoyed the pork as it packed a punch of flavor (plus the red sauce was good). The chicken was pretty good too; however I would have preferred just a little more stuffing as there wasn't much until you got to the middle. The rice and beans that came with the combo were alright. The chips and salsa were really good as both were very authentic. I was a little concerned that they make up their chip trays ahead of time, but they still tasted good. I was sad that you only got one order for free... in every Mexican place I've ever been to, these two items have be complimentary and unlimited. I am from California and I am pretty picky about my Mexican food. Ramirez's in-store cafe is amazing and delicious. They make everything from scratch (which is a major bonus for me, since cooking from scratch makes it less likely to have gluten). I had the seasoned pork burrito, without a tortilla, and it was FANTASTIC. The rice was fluffy and excellently seasoned, the beans were flavorful, and the seasoned pork! I could bathe in the stuff. Not very spicy though, but very flavorful. My partner had a "wet" burrito which was ginormous and delicous. She loved the green sauce it was slathered in. (and she knows her burritos - I tease her that she is a burrito-tarian) The store itself is small but jam packed with gems. They have a large variety of dried chilis and herbs. They have seasoned raw meat they make there for sale by the pound. They have pre-made containers of a variety of salsas, chopped onions and cilantro, sour cream, pickled jalepenos and carrots, etc. They have cactus, avacado, and a wide variety of Mexican sodas and beer. And of course their famous homemade corn torillas sold still warm. For a moving party I had recently, I bought a variety of sides, corn torillas, and soda and beer. I made my own barbacoa. We were regulars there, but NO MORE. We saw their hours were open until 11:00pm for the restaurant. Seemed like the expanded the hours. We thought we'd remembered them closing around 9:00pm before, but nonetheless we arrived there at 8:50pm. Immediately, we noticed that they'd added a lounge/club onto the small restaurant. They remodeled the restaurant area and it looked pretty nice. Our waitress seated us and gave us the menus and took our drink order. As always, the drinks came out quickly. As we perused the menu, the music in the restaurant suddenly changed and became so loud that my wife and I had to yell across the table to each other to speak. Not only was the volume loud, but the other families in the restaurant (including children) were now hearing the musical genius of Buckcherry: "Hey, you're a crazy b*tch, but you f*ck so good I'm on top of it." My wife and I looked around, shocked. We were not in the club/lounge area. We were in the family dining section. Again, there were children present. We waited it out until the deep, vocabulary-treasure-trove of Buckcherry's "Crazy B*tch" finished. Again, we've been there many many times and figured that this would get worked out. Sitting in anticipation of the next song, I began wondering if it would be cleaner in language since children were present. Would it be some fanciful, accordion music of Los Tucanes? Maybe an international crossover band like Los Lonely Boys to be more thoughtful of the children in the restaurant. NOPE. The next song featured a female vocalist who started off the musical masterpiece with: "All the girls in the club, let me see that pu$$y pop!" My wife and I stood up and walked out. We won't be returning. How can we feel safe to ever have our own young children in there if that's what they're going to be subjected to? How inconsiderate can a business be? As the door was closing behind us, we heard the female singer now urging her lover to, "Eat my pu$$y real good and make that juice run down my a$$ crack." Now, I've known a taco to be an innuendo for p*$$y, but I don't think that it works backward to call your tacos p*$$ies. Not a great way to sell more of your Mexican food. Unbelievable read more

Located in a strip mall, it might be easy to miss ...but well worth the effort to find this place. It is a Restaurant; small grocery store; bakery; and tortilla factory, Ramirez' restaurant side makes a HUGE burrito (I have never seen such a big burrito). My husband was starving and could not even make it half was through, I had the tostada/taco plate with beans and rice. It was very good. The green sauce they use on wet burritos is amazing. While I was there, I bought some fresh chorizo and some al pastor meat in their meat market, and some fresh masa from the tortilla factory to make some tamales. We have been back a second time for dinner and more masa. The people working in there are very nice. There is a wide range of people that come in there to eat all ages and walks of life, and everyone seems to enjoy the food. I grew up in Mexico and I am familiar with the sodas from Mexico, this place serves imported sodas , so if that is not for you, then be sure to ask for a local one or you could ask for an Horchata if you want to try something different. On the second visit I had the green enchiladas with rice and beans and the husband had the Steak Torta. Really really delicious food. I grew up eating Mexican food and this is just like home. The meat is always tender and meaty, not full of fat. The beans are very fresh and flavorful. Ramirez is both a Mexican store, where they also sell tamales they make, and a restaurant. Very low key and casual. They have recently expanded, so we decided to see if they were still as good as before. We were quickly seated and brought chips and salsa. My wife ordered the 2 Sopas Platter both with Chicken. I ordered the Carnitas Platter. Our food came out soon and then our waiter became very busy and was unable to get to us for a long while. He eventually did and gave us our bill that we paid at the register. The food was very good, just like before, but I don't think they have enough server staff for the larger place. My son just got home from this restaurant, spent over $70 on five burritos and apparently this restaurant doesn't know how to make a carne asada burrito. They make it with crumbled hamburger and a whole lot of refried beans, no carne asada insight. When I called them to let them know, it's kind of like oh well. Carne Asada Burrito, I had them hold the Beans. In Southern California the Carne asada burritos are just marinaded meat cheese, pico de gallo and guacamole (the best anywhere). I think some places ad beans and rice as filler to save money, that's no bueno for me. Ramirez has the best tasting carne asada I've had in Washington. So I'm here from San Antonio TX and thought what the neck, did a yelp search and found a place that was actually open at 9. In TX if you want breakfast tacos, 5:30-6:00 provides plenty of options. Ok, so no breakfast taco, only burrito's. So ordered, bacon + egg, potato + egg, chorizo + egg. In TX we only get refried beans in our breakfast taco's if requested, all of these came with refried beans, hence the Burrito. So flavor is pretty good, would give them another try only I'd be more specific in my order. Salsa's have pretty good flavor also. The Sweet Breads that looked great in the case turned out to be rock hard, not the norm in SA. Maybe if wrapped in a damp paper towel and put in the micro for a few sec will work. Have to try that later. Because they were the small burrito vs taco the total price was a bit high, $32. All in all not bad for the great northwest, but if you want really good and cheap breakfast taco's you'll just have to come south. I am never disappointed when I come here either for dinner, lunch or breakfast. Their food portions are similar to what restaurants in the area offer but at a more reasonable price. They offer lunch specials and it's convenient enough for the state workers get in and out at lunchtime. I just learned today they make their own Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce) which competes with some of the best bread I had growing up in Mexico. Their offerings are probably the most authentic you'll find in the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater area. Please don't get me started on the fancier restaurants that will put cheddar all over your food. The grocery store is very well stocked with spices. They have everything you need for your special mole recipe. They make their own tortillas which is huge if you are into supporting local small businesses. They keep the restaurant areas and bathroom really clean. I know the owner and she's a super nice lady who supports her community and the staff are always friendly and helpful. read more

I like this place for many reasons and I'm always apprehensive about leaving less than positive reviews. This format is entirely subjective. I'm only sharing my experiences when I've come to this restaurant. Before posting this review, I pulled one of the family members aside and communicated my concerns with my last 4 consecutive visits. I explained that every visit got worse than the one before. Issues ranged from placing an order for my child's birthday months in advance and never getting the service/product when it was needed, getting a bacon/egg/bean breakfast burrito where the bacon lard substituted for the actual bacon. I reluctantly rang them and addressed that issue. I was encouraged to let them fix it, so on my next visit, I came back again and paid for a breakfast burrito that had so much egg shells in it I thought I was eating a cascarones burrito. It was very disgusting. I rang them and addressed the issue and this time they said they would reimburse me for my purchase. I waited a couple of months on purpose to make sure they weren't purposely effing with me or until they worked their issues out. Well that visit lead to this review. This last visit I was seated at a dirty table that the waitress saw was dirty when she sat me, yet I had to ask her to clean the table. I placed my order and my food came within 1-2 minutes. Sounds like prompt service, huh? Nope. The dish came to me cold. Everything was cold. It was also not fresh. It clearly had been pulled out the icebox and nuked or sat in a heating pan all day and turned into jerky. It was so salty I figured it was done on purpose to help preserve the meat longer to increase their profit margin. Believe it or not...the protein was still served as the smallest portion on the plate with all the veins, arteries, tendons, and other inedible parts included. The beans were swimming in the bacon fat that they use to deceive customers into thinking they are actually eating bacon when they really aren't. It was the last straw. I felt I had the worse luck or they were really gunning for me. In addition, I always felt ripped off when I would pay way higher prices than what was on the menu. Many hidden prices and I was never informed when ordering. So, I forfeit. I'm not sure why the quality of service and the food has gotten worse. I feel that after humbly communicating with them, on more than three occasions, about their business/service I think it's time I just stop spending my money there. I hope that everyone experiences are better than the ones I've had with them over the last 11 months. read more

We have been to many Mexican restaurants in Thurston County and have never had the quality of food that Ramirez serves. We won't need to go back to those others. Ramirez serves THE BEST Mexican food hands down. It's just something amazing. We've sampled 7 different entrees and would be very hard pressed to pick the best. All delicious. And unique. From their nachos, posole, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, Ramirez bowl....you can't go wrong. Our son, who lives in Bremerton, now looks for reasons to zip down here and meet us for another Ramirez adventure. What a great meal we had tonight! Our server was so warm and friendly, and took such good care of us. They kept replenishing our free chips and salsa without our asking. Our food came out hot and delicious! The star was the Wet Burrito. It's all about the sauce on it. And it can easily be split by two people. We finished up with fried ice cream and chimichurras. I love this place! I have had it delivered (yay Uber Eats!) a few times, but had the chance to go in a couple of weeks ago. First, the food is amazing. Authentic Mexican food that just warms my soul! So good! My only complain is that the burritos tend to have full sized sliced tomatoes in them, not diced, which is weird to me, but still delicious. I've had both the regular & wet burrito and they are HUGE - you get so much for your money! The store itself is so cute and has so many things that your regular grocery store wouldn't have (cactus anyone?) so it is great if you love to cook Mexican food like I do (total staple in my house, although mine is far from authentic). After months of contemplating, I finally went to the famous Ramirez Mexican Store, and it was a nostalgic experience! First things first. Service, cleanliness, atmosphere and food were incredible. The server we had was very attentive and was quick to refill our water, chips, and salsa--which by the way is delicious!! If you go here be prepared to be overwhelmed by the smell of Mexican food that drowns the inside of the restaurant, and be ready to be surprised because the portions are HUGE. I ordered a Tamal thinking it was going to be regular size, which is about the size of a Chimichanga, and instead i got a tamal the size of a burrito! Its delicious and I recommend putting salsa on it! Inside there is also a section where you can buy Mexican Candy, Mexican medicine, and Mexican kitchen essentials. The food is pretty good, I had a carne asada burrito that measured about eight inches long and five inches wide. But the store is where the awesomeoness really shows. They have giant burrito sized tortillas and my most desired pan dulces. But most of all they have La Michocana paletas in pretty much all flavors! Really wanted to support this local business. Our barbacoa tacos are 99% fat. Thought it was just mine so tried my daughter's (since she took 1 bite and stopped eating). Same. The asada in the quesadilla, dry as hell. Excited for churros. Overcooked and covered solid in sugar. Tried scraping it off but it's on there good from a runny, wish it was caramel syrup. Sounds good, but it's like eating spoonfuls straight from the sugar bag-just crunchy mouthfuls of sugar. Should've just ordered Taco Bell. Kids would've eaten that Uber Eats $ in the trash. Their tortilla chips are made just how I like them- thick and real crunchy. I split the Macho Nachos and Carne Asada Fries with four friends, in addition to ordering a chicken chimichanga.
