If you are looking for a more authentic, non-Americanized Mexican restaurant, this is my recommendation in Tumwater. I've yet to find a meal that I did not like. I know many had expressed their like of the wet burrito, yet it is one of my recommended dishes. For myself however I am not one for tart tasting food and the verde (green) sauce has that quality so instead I have it prepared with enchilada sauce (red). One attribute that is to be appreciated here is the fact that the fried rice is not dry, in fact moist and higher flavor. I must say rarely do I find a Mexican restaurant where the rice is not dry. Since this is an integral part of most meals the rice provides a platform for the rest of the meal to be pleasing. A drawback, while not uncommon in restaurants of this type, is the wait staff sometimes makes occasional errors in what I suspect might be a small amount of language difficulty. They do correct this. But lets be frank, you actually want those people who work in foreign restaurants to not speak English fluently because you can be assured the food is actually authentic. This might not be politically correct, but it is truthful. read more

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant why? Three things First thing "the price" the amount of money you spend here is insainly low. The Massive burrito I got was like 12 bucks and that brings me into the second thing "The quantity" the amount of food you get is massive you will have a hard time not taking some home and the third thing "the quality" This food taste like something a great cook would make at home it's jucey but not greasy it's fast but not rushed it's great would happily recommend this place to anyone! read more

RESTAURANT--authentic Mexican food; good service; great tasting food. Lots of choices of meat for example to make your meal individual to your tastes. Ramirez' is not fancy--formica tables and plain chairs in two areas within a very complete grocery store with lots of take out options too. All of the meals from the menu are posted as photos on the wall of the inner restaurant section. Helps you decide. My favorite item is the wet burrito. Have had that and the taco salad a couple of times. Salad ingredients always fresh. Last time there I ordered the flan. It was the best that I ever had including in Spain. This is a locally owned, family run business. I am sure it meets the grocery and service needs of Hispanics in the community. However, everyone is welcome. Service is warm and friendly and helpful. We came here to pick up a few Mexican food items for home made tamales we are planning for New Years and oh my gosh, we must eat here!!!!? The food smells amazing and looks equally as good. The help around the store was the best in town. We were asked several times if we needed assistance by virtually every worker in the store as they walked by. I wish I hadn't eaten before we got here. We've been wanting to come here for quite some time and finally did this week. There were four of us in our group. Some of us arrived a little early and were promptly greeted by a friendly server who brought us our drinks and the wonderul chips and salsa. One might think walking in through the store first, and then into the small restaurant that it may not be quite they may expect, but looks are deceiving. Their foods was fabulous, and so affordable, it was almost too good to be true. The al pastor taco was heavenly, as was the combo plate and the chicken salad, enough to serve two. We can't wait to return and try other items on the menu. We did grab a bag of their salsa and chips to take with us to our son's, and it was a hit and devoured with high accolades. I only put one star because you can't choose zero stars. I will never go back. I honestly can't even believe how bad our experience was just now. We have mostly enjoyed the food here, other than a mediocre takeout meal, and a botched takeout order. Tonight, my husband, daughter and I went in for dinner. We sat down, and a few minutes later, the server asked if we'd like drinks. He brought us menus and salsa, (but no chips) all pretty much right away. A couple of minutes later he brought the waters we had asked for. He said that my daughter's milk would be a minute, since it was coming from the other side. About five minutes later, he came back, and spent a good long while cleaning up a nearby table that had been pretty demolished by two little kids. All this time we were sitting with our menus closed in front of us. He saw us waiting, (with no milk or chips) and even talked with us a bit while he was cleaning, leaving us to wonder if this guy was even our server... He left again for a couple of minutes. We figured it was to go get our server. We thought maybe we should just leave, since the service had already been so slow. But he came back with the milk (which had ice in it, strangely) and asked what we'd like to order. So we ordered, and wondered why we still had no chips, even though we'd had salsa for about 15 minutes. I decided to ask for some at the counter, and then took my daughter to wash her hands. While we were gone, another employee came over with my daughter's nachos. He asked my husband, who was looking at his phone, if he was okay, and said that he looked really tired, and laughed. My husband replied that he was fine, but was very unsettled by the comment. (And he didn't even look tired by the way). When we got back from the bathroom, he told us about it and said he was going to go talk to the guy. When he came back, he said, let's go. He had asked the other man if he thought that it was polite to make negative comments about a guest's appearance at your restaurant. The employee said no. When my husband said, if it's not polite, then why would you want to say something like that to a guest? The employee then reversed his position, became aggressive, and said well, if it looks like you're going to fall asleep at the table that's not good. On our way out, we stopped at the counter to cancel our order, due to the insults and poor customer service, and to let someone know why we were leaving. The employee there was apologetic and seemed embarrassed. The employee who had been rude came over, and at that time, my husband asked who was in charge, and he said he was. My husband told him, congratulations, you've lost some customers. At no time did the man claiming to be the supervisor attempt to apologize or make the situation right. We have eaten here many times, both in the restaurant and takeout. Tonight, we didn't see any of the friendly and competent servers we had come to expect. The service and treatment we received may well have been the worst of any restaurant, ever in our experience. read more

This is a great, unassuming eating spot for authentic Mexican food. We drove up I-5 from a weekend in Portland and got hungry for lunch as we approached Olympia. A quick check on Yelp pointed us to Ramirez and we are glad we stopped. The place is easy to miss because there aren't really any signs and it doesn't look like much. If you are looking for a restaurant like Azteca, move on. It is a small Mexican convenient store with an even smaller eating section, But, the food was really, really good. I had the Pozole and she had a chicken burrito. Both were excellent. The kids shared a huge cheese quesadilla. We all had sodas and paid $25 including tip. Awesome considering how good the food was. Downgrading my review because of the service I received yesterday. I ordered a couple lbs of carnitas to go and asked if they had any vegetables I could order as a side. The woman taking my order was nice and said they had iceberg lettuce, then asked if I meant other vegetables like peppers and onions. I replied, yes that would be great. She asked another woman behind the counter in Spanish if they could do that. The other woman who works there (I think might be an owner) was very rude and dismissive in her reply. This place is now called Ramirez Taqueria and it is simply awesome! Food, is fresh, delicious and if you are lucky, served with a ton of laughs! Their tortillas are amazing. they are made fresh there everyday and MANY other mexican restaurants come in and purchase them for their restaurants. You can also buy a stack of 12 or 36 fresh, hot tortillas to take home. Their menu continues to expand and you can never go wrong with their daily special. The place has @ 7 tables where you can sit, listen to the workers (all family related) have fun or you watch some of the Spanish soap operas, soccer and other Spanish shows on their TV's. We just wasted $45 on crappy food!! The burrito had little to no meat, tacos were dry and flavorless, nachos had very little meat and a funky taste, and the tamales were soggy and salty. We just moved here from California and were 200% disappointed in this so called mexican restaurant! This place was highly recommended by a friend of mine. I went, expecting to enjoy some mexican food. Unfortunately, when I ordered a glass of wine, the lady who served me looked at my id and shook her head no. She wasn't even going to explain why until I protested. I am from East L.A., so my expectations are high for Mexican cafes. First, their fresh tortillas are great for making your own burritos, tacos, taquitos and enchiladas. Also, their salsas "to go" are also solid. I enjoy the hot "La Borracha." As for the cafe, the carnitas and tamales are okay. Admittedly, the menudo is missing hominy and a finely chopped tripe--it was the worst menudo I have even had. But menudo is an acquired taste. Their meat case of marinaded pork & carne asada is so-so. Overall, though, the service is fine, the variety of food and items are good for home-cooking which is why it is my go-to place for general Mexican ingredients. I really can't say enough good stuff about this! I heard a tip that this was the place to go, and after reading the same on yelp, it became my lunch destination. Boy was i glad i did, i havn't had mexican food this good since SoCal. The wet burrito is where it's at. They literally back it up to you on a flat bed it's that massive! I come from down home cooking, so i can eat! unaware what i was in for i got some pork taco's on the side and extra beans/rice.... Big mistake! They handed me a bag that weighed as much as a mac truck!!!! I rented a crane just to get it into my car!! I ate so much i thought i was gonna split, and still hand enough, more then half actually, to do it again the next day! Now you may think, ok, sounds great, but for a feast of that size i may have to morgage my house, or put my kids up for adoption. NAY even with all the addon's i get, plus the manditory fresh torts, to soak up the sauOce, and a bag of fresh chips. i hand them a twenty and get change back. I really want to rate this place higher because of its authenticity, but I can't. On my second trip here - trips separated by a few years - my spouse and I came in expecting a repeat of the first performance. Our waitress was very cordial and professional, but our order was lost somewhere between her taking it and the handoff to the kitchen. Diners who came in about five minutes after we ordered were finished with their meals before we received ours. Because of the delay, I think, our orders were rushed. The cheese in my wife's enchiladas was not fully melted. And the sauce was bland, bland, bland, though I doubt the hurry had much to do with that. My pozole, however, was pretty good. Tacos are just a buck each during happy hour. Maybe I'll try this place one more time when I'm working in the area, but I'm hoping the experience will be different. I'll try the tacos. This place is my go-to spot when I'm in Tumwater. I come up for business regularly and look forward to trying something new each time I go. So far I haven't been disappointed and I've had the carnitas, enchiladas and their awesome house made chips. Mrs. B's first day back from vacation so I decided we needed a lunch date and I couldn't wait to bring her here. We each had the carnitas burrito for $4.99. Wow, we decided after that next time we will split one because they are very large. It was filled to perfection with pork, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, fresh cilantro and avocado. This was delicioso! 2 carnitas burritos, a diet pop, a bottle of water and tip -- out the door for $14.24. We have been here many times and the food is usually very good. Unfortunately on our last two visits the rice was so wet and overcooked that it was almost the consistency of mashed potatoes.
