PEOPLE HERE DO NOT DESERVE MY MONEY. They were rude to everyone, even rude to the pregnant lady with the baby in her arms. The big guy that works there literally pushed the baby carriage out of the way, and told the pregnant lady that she needed to stand somewhere else with the baby because his huge stomach and ass couldn't walk though, and really, she was not blocking anyone, and not only that, people with a little bit of decency would have walked around the poor pregnant lady, instead of scolding her. Also, Rami's use Groupon a lot, and when another customer that was trying to pay with her Groupon, the rudeass there was like "you have money, why the hell you got to pay with Groupon?" . The poor guy was an international tourist, so I guess he was confused to what he was being asked. I just couldn't stand the rudeness from this place, like seriously, got nothing nice to say, then just shut up. As for food- The food used to taste good that's why I always closed one eye when eating here, but since last year maybe? it's not even worth closing one eye for food that is handled, prepared and put together with BARE HANDS right after the guy SCRATCHES HIS HEAD AND BACK. The people that own and work here are disgusting, they not only do not have any respect for any of their customers, their food no longer taste good like they used to. I really DO like their food - when they have it in stock. But that's not what I want to share. Going to a restaurant is more than about the food they serve. It is about the way they treat their customers. And tonight I was humiliated by their staff. As soon as I walked in this evening to pick up the order I had placed by phone, the guy behind the counter accused me of not paying last time I was there. He started yelling at me in front of everyone. While I'm sure that I did not forget to pay, I offered to pay again anyway, to get him to stop yelling and to erase any doubt. That did not seem to help. He kept pointing to a table and saying that I was in there with a friend and that I left without paying. (side note - I haven't been into Rami's to sit and eat for months) Turning bright red from being yelled at, I offered to pay again - and finally he decided he would be "generous" and charge me "only $10" to make up for it. He made a big deal about how he was only charging $10, on top of what I had bought tonight. I couldn't believe that he would actually charge me extra that I was stunned into silence. When I left, after waiting for a friend to pay, he tried to call me back and waved a $10 bill at me, as if he realized what a gigantic customer service mistake he made. The review by J.T. on 1/27/13 sums up my experience quite well: "I've been to Rami's several times, always making excuses for their inadequacies; however, I'm now run out of excuses with my latest interaction with them." The falafel is good with fresh toppings and soft pita, which kept me coming back even though the service is horrible. On top of the unexplained long waits for food, I've witnessed customers get treated quite poorly on several occasions. My most recent visit convinced me never to go back for a few reasons: 1. The man who made my food placed falafel balls on my plate with his bare hands. This was immediately after I witnessed him shake hands with a customer and then use his phone (to show said customer photos). Most of the employees usually wear gloves, but this manager-type didn't care to. If this is how they handle food in plain view of customers, I do not want to know what happens during their food prep. 2. After an otherwise decent eating experience, I went up to pay. I was asked what I had ordered and told him. He asked me to clarify which variation of the 'plate' I had received. I honestly didn't know and when he charged me for the most expensive one without listening to my response, I asked him "how do I know which plate I received?" So far it was a pretty innocuous conversation and I was more than happy to pay for what I had eaten and walk out the door mostly satisfied. The cashier snapped at me saying 'we always ask you what kind of plate you want when you order!" Well, I was not asked. Or if I were asked, I did not hear the question and gave no response. I tried to explain that fact and he just kept asserting "we always ask" until I felt sufficiently demeaned as to not return. While I would never give a one star review based on a single moderately bad experience, I've witnessed others experience this horrible service on several occasions. I would only recommend this place if you do not have to enter the store to eat the food. Find a dear friend or loved one and maybe you can convince them to pick you up some falafel and meet you elsewhere. But that could turn out to be an unusually cruel request. read more

I was excited, having seen all of these positive reviews about Rami's. I left feeling very dissatisfied, and wondering about all the "perhaps" that I had seen. Let's review: 1. Perhaps the manager I saw, yelling at a family of 3 for not clearly telling him that they had not yet placed their order, was just having a bad day. 2. Perhaps the inexplicably slow wait for a very simple food (umm, no actual cooking is involved in the preparation of a falafel when all of the ingredients are prepared in front of you) was because they were having an off day. 3. Perhaps the fact that you charge $15.95 for a combo platter that can be had at neighborhood falafel joints for $10.95 is because you think you can get away with it. 4. Perhaps the disorganized mess of a restaurant I walked into on Sunday was because it was busy, and your overwhelmed staff couldn't handle a normal Sunday rush. I guess the final perhaps is this. The guy who just made my hummus & falafel pita was really hot! Even if my sandwich had sucked, I would probably still give this place 5 stars for that reason alone, but it was damn good. Thanks to Yelp reviews, I visited Rami for the first time today. I walked in and asked the handsome man standing there if they were cash only to which he replied "Cash or check". So, I said I would step across the street to the bank machine and come back. He said "You can eat first if you like." How nice is that!! (Since I was getting take-out anyway I went to the bank first). I came back and said "It's my first time here, what do you recommend?" He proceeded to dip a yummy falafel ball in some hummus and gave it to me to try. I was sold & got the hummus & falafel pita (with hot sauce & all the veggies). Then, he asked me how I heard about the place and I said Yelp and pointed to the "People love us on Yelp" sticker on the door. He said yeah, that is a great site. I hadn't been to Rami's since I was a kid, and couldn't really remember if I liked it or not. I saw the Groupon, and impulse bought it. Came in tonight, and oy vey, it was good! It's a small joint, maybe eight tables, but we were lucky enough to get one. I ordered the Hummas Falafel Pita with hot sauce and extra pickles and the boy had the Shwarma Salad Plate with Falafel. We were served our food and I went to pay and the nice guy at the counter waved us away and said, "pay me later." You don't see that anymore, people just trusting their customers like that. The pita was soft and fresh, the hummus was some of the best I've had in years. And the falafel, oh the falafel. Delicious balls of perfection, that's what they were. They had to cook the cigars fresh, so they took awhile to come out. I'd finished my chicken plate by this time. I took one look at the cigars and noted the phyllo dough on them. Breading -- just as I feared. I was hungry and cranky, so I was probably less than polite when I said I can't eat these, can we please just have them taken off the check. The owner came over and asked if I was allergic or on a gluten-free diet or something. Yes, I am. He apologized for the misunderstanding and offered to make something else for me, but I insisted it would be best to just get our money back and be on our way. I have been in Rami's in the past and thought that my experience was pretty good. Simple middle eastern food, carved off of the kebabs is usually a good time. But my past experiences were trumped by what my roommate and I experienced during our last visit. I told my roommate that this place was pretty good, so she decided to try it (I had already eaten). It was later in the night, but there was still a decent amount of people there. The food that my roommate was served, which she found out once we got home and opened it, was disgraceful! She was given the driest, most sparse scraps of meat that I had ever seen. It was if they did not want to tell us that they were out of food, and thought that they could still charge us $15 bucks for a plate of stuff that was scraped off of the stove top. On top of that, the lettuce and other vegetables were not fresh either. The whole meal was a disappointment, and I was very embarrassed to have recommended them to my roommate, who ended up throwing the meal out, because it was so bad. We have not been back since, and I doubt that I would ever consider trying them again. read more

In a time long ago, when I was naive and thought the green line meant decent transportation, and my fiance was still a mere boyfriend, he introduced me to Rami's - one of his favorite Coolidge Corner eateries. The only felafel I'd eaten before was dry and flavorless. Perhaps that is why Rami's blew me away. It also could have been the mouthwatering tahini or the oh-so-soft bread. Or the combination of flavors in the felafel pita. Regardless, I was hooked. We got the same thing every time. Two felafel pitas (extra spice for him, no spice for me), side of hummus, extra bread. The men who worked there already knew him, and got to know me. Rami's was always a pleaser, the perfect go-to on a hot summer night when you want good food fast. Then, alas, we moved far, far away. To the South End. Then South Boston. We searched in vain for a felafel joint that could compare, but everything else was sub-par. Today, we were in the neighborhood, and stopped by Rami's. Same menu. Same staff. Same wonderful food. We started to give our usual order... then the fiance asked for a vat of hummus and bread. "OH HEY BOSS! HOW YOU DOING? HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN A WHILE!" This place is terrible. Every time I go, they barely have half the menu available, and it's not the good half. At least it's not as prohibitively expensive as kosher food tends to be. There used to be a much better place down the street called "Tiberias Grill", but it went out of business. Why, G-d, couldn't you have taken Rami's instead?! That said, they are a whopping 1/6 of kosher restaurants in Boston and the only Israeli one at that. If they have shwarma and fries, buy a lottery ticket (cause it's your lucky day...) I am a big fan of Rami's falafel, it may just be my favorite in the Boston area. It's flavorful without being too 'spicy' and pairs wonderfully with their hummus. The balls themselves (hehe) are on the tiny side, but are crunchy and satisfying (that's what she said). The pita bread here is unique, it's small and thick without being too dry or bulky, authentic Israeli I'm told... I'm not usually a pita fan but I really like Rami's version. I get the falafel and hummus plate, which is $8 for about 6 small balls and a bunch of hummus plus a pita. It's on the pricey side for sure, but the blow is softened if you get the iamhungry coupon that gives you 5 extra balls plus a medium soda for free with any purchase... when I got the plate for lunch the other day with these free extras (the worker actually gave me a bonus ball, for 6 extras total), I was completely full for the rest of the day and was not even hungry enough for dinner that night. I've never gotten anything else on the menu because it looks pretty expensive, plus I'm loyal to Shawarma King's sandwiches (won't get shawarma anywhere else), but I'd definitely recommend the falafel/hummus plate or sandwich if you have a few extra bucks to burn and are craving some delicious balls 8) read more

It's a little confusing when you first walk in, especially if you've never been before and it's crowded. The food order spot is further down the counter and you move towards the door as you get and pay for your food. Why is this so confusing? The line waiting to order wraps around the counter because the space is so narrow. Just sit tight and wait. They'll take your order pretty much in accordance with your place in line. This is seriously some of the best falafel I've had in the states. The veggies they include in the pocket are plentiful and fresh. The hummus is tasty but very, very garlicky. They even include pickles! (as is the proper way to serve a falafel pocket) Sure it felt pricey when $10 got me a pocket and small diet coke - but when I finished, I was stuffed with falafel-y goodness and didn't care anymore. I've only ever heard one person diss Rami's. Apparently he doesn't like his falafel in a pita. Not a fan of Israeli falafel or something to that effect was his excuse. I was reminded of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld on my first visit here, but strangely I knew the bald, little man had no malicious intent. "No! No dairy! This is kosher! No dairy!" or "You want hot sauce!?" (I think there was a question mark...). As my Israeli friends put it, "Oh, that's just how Israelis talk." Forgive my generalization and let's move onto the food. Scrumptious! Each bite was a complex medley of red cabbage, hot sauce, hummus, and tahini. The hot sauce had so much bite! I loved it cause I was definitely thinking that man was being stingy but it turns out, the hot sauce is quite potent! The pita was a little tough around the edges so I had to rip those parts off but my god, one very well-priced pita is quite filling. Really clean and simple interior and strangely beautiful tiled ceiling. Framed photographs faded down to indistinguishable hues of blue and yellow line the walls, and the set-up is self-serve, bus your own tables. Despite being a Asian-American Protestant, and thereby not fettered by cumbersome dietary restrictions (religious or meat-related), Rami's is more often than not my post-church lunch spot. Get the falafel in a pita. Sure the shwarma is excellent, as are the plates, but the money here is in the excellently crispy and succulent falafel balls nestled in a soft yet substantial locally-sourced pita. Vegetables are crisp, and spicy - if one so chooses. In my opinion, the Israeli-style falafel is significantly better than the Shwarma King's Lebanese-style offerings, which offer thinner, but more chewy pita wraps on top of slightly more heavily seasoned falafel. Seating at Rami's is extremely limited. Come with a partner, whose job is to stake out a table. People traffic is awkward, as the narrow profile of the building necessitates a logjam at the narrowest area of the restaurant, making a trip to the restroom evoke an adult game of Red Rover. Yes, getting a falafel at Rami's is a hassle, but well-worth the effort. read more

A buddy and I went here for dinner one night so I could use a Groupon I had purchased a while back. I was quite anxious to try it out given the excellent Yelp reviews but unfortunately my experience did not live up to the expectations. First off, the place is awkwardly set up. There were only a few people in line and everyone was tripping over each other when ordering. After asking one of the guys behind the counter what he recommended and receiving a blank stare in return, I just picked a shawarma plate. My buddy ordered the schnitzel. I take my falafel very seriously but it just sucked here quite frankly. It was over-cooked on the outside and under-cooked on the inside (just like another Yelper mentioned). My plate was overall very blah. The meat was exceptionally dry and had no flavor whatsoever. Even the hummus wasn't anything to write home about. My friend didn't even finish his plate, which is highly unusual. We apparently shared the same observations. What ultimately shocked me was the $32 tab for 2 plates and 2 drinks!!! Waaaaaay, way over-priced. Stick with Falafel King in Boston or Quincy and you'll get better food for much less money. A fan, indeed. I'd been meaning to check this place out for a while but especially so because a friend of mine is dating the co-owner and said this place is really legit. So on my way back from Body Mechanics, I took the 66 which conveniently stops RIGHT in front. Convenient. The menu kind of confuses me though. Falafel, I understand. But then it goes hummus falafel. Then hummus falafel platter. Then hummus falafel platter with salad. I suppose I don't understand the delicate differences between the selections so I did what any hungry girl with a deep love for Middle Eastern food does: make them pick for me. I came in looking greasy (it was the massage cream, ok?!) and hungry and a little bewildered at my choices. So I told the nice man at the counter (with a yarmulke - SEX!) that I heard really great things about this place, could he please feed me because I was starving?! He asked if I liked meat (duh) and then told me to give him a minute. And then handed me this little paper cup of hummus and perfectly shaped falafel balls (I later learned they have a machine for this) Oh man. Falafels - Israeli style. And hummus loaded with tahini. Pour it on me, baby. I got some kind of platter with tons of stuff that I couldn't finish - though they have killer pitas that I did finish. Shawarma, chicken, salad, awesome pickels, and of course hummus and falafels. I was full. I was really full. And subsequently happy. I will agree with the others - this place is not cheap. I ended up getting a bottle of water, a peach nectar (WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, DO IT FOR THE LOVE OF FRUIT), and that plate of love and was only asked for $12 but I know this is because I made friends with the men and introduced myself as the friend of the girlfriend... so obv my networking skillz gave me a discount on food. But otherwise I think homegirl could have shelled out upwards of $18 or so. Then again, the menu is still a mystery to me. If you want falefel, Rami's in Coolidge Corner should be at the top of your list of places to go. It's basically set up like a small deli with some seating. There seem to be a decent amount of regulars, and it is definitely a family friendly establishment. They have spiced meat rotating on a spit and all of the food you associate with a kosher, Israeli falafel place - tomatoes, cucumbers, hummus, pita, and, of course, falafel. I may not exactly be a falafel expert, but Rami's is damned good; definitely the best I've had in the Boston area. Their prices are a little high for what you're getting, but hey, it's Coolidge Corner; I can't imagine their rent's cheap. This is almost my first time to buy falafel. I ate this before but it was someone's home party or something. I don't know why but recently my trend is eating middle east foods. I am totally ignorant about middle east culture because it is pretty hard to find in Asian country. So I read these reviews during Passover. You know, of course I didn't know about that culture. I went to Rami's almost everyday for a week because all the review here look nice. I was so excited about eating the best falafel in Boston, but this restaurant is never open. They are probably taking vacation. That was my first assumption. Wait, if they are vacation, they probably put some sign on the door. Ummm did they fail their business?? So I was waiting for evacuation will start. Then I can know what happen in here. However nothing happened. Finally I google, and use wikipedia to figure out what is happening for their culture. I am in love with Rami's. I'm sure if Rami is a real person he would have sunbeams coming out of his eyes and smell like chocolate chip cookies. I almost walked right by this place, but I saw the roasting meat on a skewer through the window. A style of roasting that I was oh-so familiar with from when I was eating Döner Kebab daily in Germany. Hoping it was döner, I waltzed right on in, and found the meat was not döner meat, but called shawarma, and they had freshly made falafel. Being not at all hungry, I ordered a shawarma in pita, ate it outside on the sidewalk, and then proceeded to call everyone I knew. The pita bread is absolutely the best pita I have ever had. They are Glatt Kosher and ship most of the ingredients, including the pita, in from Israel. Their hummus, tahini, and "spicy sauce" are all top-notch. I've only had my meals in pita, but they offer plates of the same ingredients with pita on the side. They are kid friendly too (hot dogs in pita and french fries). I have yet to have the seasoned chicken, but usually alternate getting shawarma (which is turkey) and falafel. I have never been to Israel, but I could not imagine falafel and shawarma better than this. My only qualm is that they are pricey. $13.00 for shawarma in pita seems like a lot. I suspected that being fast food it would fall in the $7-9 range. However I keep on returning and I still give Rami's a five-star review. The best. read more

Oh Rami's, How I miss working closer to your wonderful food establishment where I could eat tasty falafel at least once a week. Thank goodness my hairdresser is in Brookline, so we didn't totally have to break up. My visit yesterday brought back memories of lunch time deliciousness. Nothing like a falafel & hummos pita basically bursting at the seams. I don't know if there is a better sandwich out there. The fresh falafel, home made hot sauce and hummus.....then add lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tahini, and one more thing... PICKLES. Oh how I love the pickles that top your sandwich. I love Ramis. I don't know what it is about that spot, but when i walk in the door, suddenly and without warning i start speaking with an Israeli accent. I always order chhhhhhhumus and falafel pita with chips. I get the chips in it cause thats how they do in israel (with the fries directly in the pita.) Oh man do i love that place. I used to live down by anna's on harvard ave and I take the C line home, get two pitas, one for dinner and one for the lunch the next day. It makes me very sad to give Rami's a bad review. I used to love this place. My partner is Israeli and we would go all the time for the falafel, pita, and hummus. Something has changed in the past year or so and all of the food there is now so salty that it has become inedible. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but now we've gone back three or four times and it's consistently waaaay too salty. read more

I've been told about the excellence of Rami's falafel and middle eastern fare since moving to Boston. So finally on a Friday (they're closed on Saturdays) I made the trek with my family out to Brookline for a Falafel & Hummus Pita sandwich. It was good, not great, not off the hook, amazing or any other platitudes that I've been told they are. The falafel wasn't totally crispy and light. The pita provided a deep and inviting pocket slathered with creamy hummus, about 4-6 small falafel balls, and the works (pickles, cabbage, onions and parsley). The hard part was the fact that this normally cheap eat was $7.95. That's crazy, especially for something that is no more than chickpeas and some salad bar. It tasted good and the falafel was definately better than Sharwma King's in the neighborhood but the top Falafel sandwich in my humble opinion belongs to Falafel King in Quincy. Where for close to $3 bucks less you get a sandwich twice as big and full of large hand made patties fried to order. I love Rami's! I've been going there for years and it's still great. Rami's has middle eastern food and I believe it's Kosher for anyone who cares. I always gets the falafel and baba ganoush pita pocket with extra pickles but their hummus is great too. They have meat also-lamb and such. I don't know if this happens to anyone else but when I do go there the owner/staff speak to me in Hebrew, despite the fact that I don't speak the language. Even funnier is I used to go all the time with Erin who is way more Jewish then me in that she was actually rasied orthodox and yet they spoke English to her! Rami's is a great, small restaurant good for a quick bite to eat. The falafel hummus plate is absolutely delicious piled high with cabbage, tomato, cucumber, pickles, tahihi sauce, hummus, falafel and pita. While Rami's isn't cheap, the freshness and the quality are top notch. The falafel is not greasy or mushy, though, I still can't find falafel here in Boston like I ate in Israel. Rami's. Oh, Rami's... I dream about you if I've been away for a while. This place is legit. I've tried other places in the neighborhood with similar menus, and NO ONE can hold a candle to Rami's. The hummous is, by far, the best I've ever had. When the wife and I eat here, we can never resist taking a half pound of it home with us. The falafel is wonderful. These nuggets of deep fried goodness are smaller than I'm used to, which means a higher ratio of crispy outside to soft, moist inside. Everything on the menu is of the highest quality. Some people grumble that it's too expensive. And, while I agree that it's a bit on the pricey side, I feel that you get what you pay for. The step up in quality of Rami's food compared to it's competitors is well worth the couple of bucks difference. (While on the subject of price, the wife and I will almost always order the Rami's Special - a plate heaped with hummous, falafel, kebab, grilled chicken and salad - with a few extra pitas... It runs about $25 once we tack on a few drinks, but it's plenty of food for two.) Oh, be sure to get the hot sauce! But maybe try it on the side the first time or two... it's a lot hotter than it looks! Also, Rami's DOES take credit cards now. Woo-hoo! read more

Outside of the massive population centers which can support a wealth of highly-targeted ethnic eateries, the best kosher restaurants are the ones which transcend or outright obscure their religious peculiarities and sell themselves to the general public simply as quality eateries. Tiny Rami's has mastered this dance and stood the test of time, seeing neighboring kosher eateries come and go, and surviving despite constant threat from nearby non-kosher shawarma "kings" and other, lesser vassals of falafeldom. During a busy lunch hour, they run the cramped shop with exacting precision. ("We're here to work; we're not here to play!" I once overheard being said to a dawdling customer, to my impatient delight.) At calmer moments, they're happy to offer tastes and shoot the breeze. Their shawarma is expertly cooked so the meat chunks remain juicy but slightly crisp at the edges, stuffed into the softest pita this side of Jerusalem, covered with freshly chopped veggies, and slathered with sauces -- ranging from hot, green s'chug, to smooth, garlicky hummus, to sesame-laden techina, to the mysteriously spicy orange amba. Kosher or not, you'll find that the thrill of delicious shawarma grease dripping down your arm as you try to tame your burgeoning sandwich is a spiritual experience. read more

I am not sure why I even went back here. Ordered three chicken kebab plates for pick up. Confirmed with name and phone number. When we went to pick up they were combative and sure that we ordered beef kebab. After firm reminders to the guy that we ordered chicken they admitted they had no chicken and would then prepare the beef for us. Really? This place always has rude attitude.
