The beers on tap here are very good. However, the bartender gave my beer to me in a plastic cup when i ordered at the bar. But when we order at our table i got my beer in proper glasses. The old fashion was not strong and could not tasted the bitters. Kind of like a watered down bourbon on ice. We were snacking so we order the yukon potato and cheese curd, which came out cold with lukewarm potatoes. It tastes awful. However, after we asked them to reheat the dish, it was very good. I could tastes the gravy on top of the potatoes almost was a deglazed sauce from a roast beef peppery flavor and quite complex. The melted cheese flavors really could fully be appreciated after the dish was reheated. Why serve a very good dish cold in the first place? The clam chowder was mediocre and tasted like costco's ivan packaged clam chowder, however, the accompanying sour dough was good. Service was all over the place and not very good or efficient. This whole place is just an amazing spot for its history, for its location, for its ambience. I love this one bar in particular because even with the awesomely big lodge it is in, and the awesomely mountain looming over it, it's darn right cozy here. You are kind of off in a corner with wonderful views, solid, warm wood all around you including the furniture you are sitting in. The few times I have eaten here have not disappointed either. This time round I went for their curry/carrot soup and one of their delicious salads. Not to mention the "old" classic cocktails on their menu as well. I had a dream come true afternoon at Timberline the day before I flew back home to Hawaii, and the Ram's Head experience was truly the cherry on top. After a unseasonably warm and dry winter, my Portland family said regrettably, I probably wouldn't be able to play in snow. We drove up to Timberline anyway on 3/21/15, just to see the hotel, after being dry the whole week (we were scoping out the webcams daily). Magically everything was covered in falling snow! After playing in the snow, we warmed up in the stunning lodge and headed to the upstairs bar for some cocktails. We sat by a large window where we had picturesque views of snow covered pines and skiers. I ordered a hot buttered rum (always wanted to try one!) And my moms got a beer and a bloody mary. The hot buttered rum was warm, cinnamony, and sweet...so delicious that I got the recipe from the bartender to make for cold Hawaii nights (yeah right). I also sampled the bloody Mary and it was one of the best I've tasted! We also ordered the fondue ($16?)which seemed like the perfect snack for a ski resort. It was made with local beer and cheese and came with bread, apples, grapes, and carrots. I couldn't get enough. The prices were comparable for a resort, everything was so tasty, and how do you put a price on a magical snow day? It was a wonderful end to our short time at timberline, and one day I hope to return. read more

When my son worked at Timberline he talked about the good food he was getting up there and kept telling us to take the drive to go eat. Why we didn't, I don't know because it is just as close as Portland for us. I did take my sister up there on her recent visit and told her we had to eat there. We had missed the lunch buffet at the other restaurant there, which is served from 11-2pm I think, could be 11:30. Check the website, as I think it also gives the menus. We got a great seat facing the mountain. Service was good and they were pretty busy for 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. We ordered the Fondue $16, which had plenty of things to dip, four large pieces of homemade bread, grapes, apples and carrots. The only complaint is there was not enough cheese. It is served in a tea cup and not filled all the way up. We were left with a whole piece of bread and many grapes without cheese. Neither of us are heavy dippers so, if i had been eating with one of the guys in the family, it could have been a blood sport getting enough cheese. I would highly recommend eating up there if you are visiting. Just remember like everything else in an out of the way, tourist area, prices will be higher, but where else will you get a great view at the base of Mt. Hood? read more

Me and my husband had two suppers at Ram's Head because it was way more affordable than Cascade (main courses 32-38$). At Ram's Head,a tuna salad sandwich is 18$ & it is pretty big,so I would bring leftovers to my room each time I got it. Needless to say that it was delicious. My husband liked his food too. The service was great, our server was an older gentleman,which was very friendly,attentive & knowledgeable (he answered my questions about vegetarian options). Loved the bar's atmosphere in the evening,the view from the window and my cocktail,French 75. Can't wait to visit Ram's Head again! I came here during a women's fiction writing retreat with 7 other women. This is on the top floor of the hotel where the exterior views of the hotel in THE SHINING were filmed. It's fun to go in and see a typewriter with ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY spilling out of it, and some of the workers were dressed up like Death. The food was fine, if a bit pricey. I had the beef brisket, which was a huge mound of meat on top of some baked beans, topped with a dollop of BBQ sauce. It came with coleslaw. This was $18. My friend got their special, a beef stew, which the waitress said was $18. She thought it was thin and soupy and not a great stew. After we ate, someone saw a sign listing the stew special as $14, so my friend got $4 back. The soups were all around $9. They also had sandwiches. read more

We visited Timberline Lodge and ventured upstairs to the bar for a drink after walking around a while. The bar itself is quite comfortable and the seats are arranged in way that gives maximum views of the mountain range or Mt. Hood. We just got drinks, did not try the food, although I looked at the menu and it seemed a bit pricey. But hey, it costs money to transport food up a mountain that stand 11,000+ feet. I got an oatmeal stout and it was full-bodied and smooth. The wife opted for a speciality cocktail called Bees Knees which is gin, lemon, honey and rosemary. It was kind of bitter until she stirred the honey around a bit. She did not like it very much and thought the drink was too bitter. We enjoyed the bar and it is not too loud. They let you sit for as long as you want. All in all, a very calm place to take in spectacular views. read more

I wish I remembered our server's name, because he was so accommodating and looked out for my dining companion's gluten allergy. He had gone to the kitchen to grab an allergen sheet, but while going over it with us, he found multiple things that were incorrect - like, it said the short ribs were ok but the menu clearly states it was braised with an oatmeal stout (not GF). Ultimately he went back to the chef and determined that only the sandwiches (with GF bread) and salads were safe. So we split a roast beef sandwich whichever came with creamed peas. We were enjoying the sunset when the meal came, so we didn't touch it for a few minutes. Our server came by, looked at the peas and was like "hmm better safe than sorry, let me exchange that" due to the dressing in the peas. He came back with a nice spicy tomato salad instead. The sandwich was filling and definitely hit the spot after a full day of hiking. 4 stars for service, 2-3 stars for inconsistencies with allergen info/menu items. read more

My friend took me to see Mount Hood during my visit to Hood River. The sun was out, but there was a bit of a breeze which created a wind chill factor that we were not prepared for. So, we cut our hike short and popped into the Timberline Lodge for one of their famous Hot Chocolates. OMG! This thing is like a dessert!! (See pic!) Made with Dutch cocoa and topped with whipped cream, English toffee pieces and caramel and chocolate sauces. They also top it with a cinnamon stick which I put in the mug to let it infuse in my hot chocolate. This thing is soooooooo good! You can't go to Mount Hood and not get one of these!! read more

I almost forgot to write a review from our stay from a few Months ago with family. I am glad I waited to write the review because I think the stars probably would have been lower. To be honest, I hate being that person that gives low stars. Here is my reason for wanting to give low stars at that time...the service was not always on point. My Brother in law was treated poorly, and I have seen other reviews on here that have had similar experiences. Such as not having the room key on you, being accused of not being old enough when he had an expired ID to show as well as a new paper ID, but just awaiting the new. He is in his mid 30's. Not all of the staff was this way. It was just some, and not all of us were treated in this fashion. But it left a bad taste in our mouths. Now the drinks were wonderful...over priced yes! But very delicious none the less! I had a few of the trilliums on our stay! This is a very beautiful setting, and I am glad to have come to have the experience. I think if you like this sort of thing come for the atmosphere. There is a lot of history, and cool exploring just walking around the lodge. I hope the next time I come the staff will have changed, and maybe there will be a different experience . read more

We had to check out the famous Timberline Lodge but honestly I can't remember the movie The Shining so I didn't recognize it. We did play around the hotel a little bit and came inside for lunch at Ram's Head Bar. The hotel interior is very cabin cozy with fireplaces blazing heat. I actually forgot my scarf on a bench and someone turned it in! Aww Portland people so nice!! :) We got a table by the window so we had a view of the snowy mountains. I ordered the chili baked potato and the hubs had some beef sandwich. (He always orders beef as you know!!) The chili was just OK (I'm from TX after all!), it could be better. But I still gobbled it up. The hubs sandwich though was dry. Service wasn't that smooth either. Lunch wasn't a total waste though because we ordered the hot chocolate. That was SO amazing and delicious! It's big enough to share with 1 person. They top it with whip cream, syrups, toffee bits and cinnamon stick. The view, what can I saw, its the main reason to go. Unfortanatly I got seated at a table with no view at all. OK, so I can still go outside to look at the mountain. The menu price are high so the food should be above average. Sadly, this visit it wasn't. We had beers which were good and the only vegetarian sandwich which had fromage blanc, onion, apples, and jam, and a wheatberry salad. The wheatberry salad was just OK, nothing special. The sandwich was like a bland cream cheese, and the jam on it was very sweet without a tart or sour flavor to balance the sweetness. For our $50, I'd go some place else next time. read more

I was taken back to see that FDR In 1937 gave his seal of approval for the Timberline parks dedication. COVID-19 era review. So masks are required; service seems mainly to be provided from the bar on the far side of the entrance; don't wait by the door for help. They told us they were not offering food (I see other COVID-era reviews that include food, so this may be a recent change). They offer drinks in plastic cups if you prefer to take them downstairs and out onto the patio behind the lodge (or onto the patio with 5 tables over the main entrance to the lodge); running a tab seems to be discouraged. Good (which is standard for PNW) selection of microbrews, plus decent wines and cocktails. I've eaten the food here and been pleased; I will be happy when that is possible again. Many of the indoor seats do not have great views , despite the fact that the outside of the lodge is nearly uniformly surrounded by gorgeous views; I have seen winter photos of major snowdrifts against the structure, so that architectural decision may be vindicated. read more

Worst dining experience I've ever had. We were staying with friends in the hotel for my bf's birthday. We thought it would be a nice dinner. Instead, we were way overcharged for a terrible meal. Everything was clearly heated up by microwave. A few dishes were missing many of the advertised vegetables and sides. When my friend asked for some vegetables that were advertised in her veggie pasta, the waitress literally brought her ONE microwaved mushroom. Literally! The food was terrible and way too expensive. $20 for a sausage sandwich and potato salad, when the sausage was burned? $25 for microwaved pasta missing veggies? An embarrassment to this great historic lodge. This restaurant should rebrand as a pub - burgers, pizza, etc. People who want fancy fare can eat at the Cascade Dining Room. There is a pub in the lodge but it was closed this time of year. They should have the same menu. I will be telling people NOT to eat here. read more

The simple truth is this: I have purchased season tickets to Timberling for the past 4 years just because of the Rams Head Bar. There. I said it. The Rams Head Bar has had its ups and downs. I loved the place on my first visit. The drinks were good and the food was better. Then they hired a "chef." Things immediatly went down hill. The prices went up, the menu changed, they stopped food sevice on the weekdays, and my favorite things were no longer available. Apparently they have now discovered the error of their ways. I have been here twice in the past 2 weeks and it seems that they are back. Food service is now available on weekdays and my old favorites are back on the menu. You won't be disapointed with the salmon wedge salad, the pulled pork sandwich, the chili or (and I know this will draw some discussion but check out the picture) the fondue. They always have a great selection of micro brews and you can't go wrong with any of them. The only thing that kept them out of the 5 star range for me is their prices. Although my favorite dishes are back on the menu, they have all taken serious price increases. Expect to pay $15 for the pork sandwich and almost $9 for a bowl of chili. I imagine that it is tough for them to keep a good staff in such a distant location and I chalk it up to the price of doing business. As long as the Rams Head maintains its current level of quality and service, I will continue to buy my season lift tickets for the Timberline resort. read more

The view was phenomenal of Mt. Hood from our table and the Smoked Pork Posole Stew was outstanding. Good craft beer also. However the staff and service was pretty bad. We sat down and a young lady gave was drink and food menus then walked away. Another server came by 10 minutes later and took our drink order. 30 minutes later I asked the female server if I could at least get my drinks and put in an order for food. She just looked at me like she was a lost child and just walked away. Five minutes later the male server brought us drinks and took our food order. The female server just wandered around the whole place doing nothing (except did refill two water glasses for someone). We did see her in the corner playing on the phone lol. read more

I love this historic lodge, at the base of Mt. Hood. The bar has beautiful views. I've only imbibed here in the past. Today we had a snack. The menu is limited, but they seem to be focusing on doing a few things & doing them well. The Mushroom Barley Soup was delicious! I could tell it was homemade as the carrots weren't cut uniformly. Husband got the Giant Soft Pretzel & Alpine Fondue. I could see why it costs $20. I love pretzels & this one was THE pretzel of all pretzels!!! We stopped by the lodge for a small lunch on our way to bend. For starters, I miss the award winning clam chowder. We shared the bratwurst which was delicious, and the LARGE soft pretzel and fondue. While the fondue was exceptional, the pretzel was so salty it bordered on inedible. Service was never an issue. And to my fellow wheelchair users, the ADA elevator has been broken for two weeks, the Swiss manufacturer is out of business, so spare parts from Europe may take a while. Until it is repaired you will be rerouted through the loading dock and wait next to the dumpsters for the service elevator. I can't give any less than 3 stars for the history and astheticially pleasing views. read more

When (not if, but WHEN) you visit Mt Hood & the Timberline Lodge, go to the Rams Head and order their hot chocolate! Beware the sugar rush, but it is soooo worth it! Their Rustic Bread & butter is divine, too, but GO FOR THE CHOCOLATE if nothing else! It is AMAZING! Staff is usually friendly, but everyone is off @ times. The cheesecake is tasty as well. As others have said, this is a resort. Be prepared to pay. And if you are sensitive to the heat, be warned that there is ALWAYS a fire roaring and it hears the entire lodge. The Timberline Lodge at Mt Hood is a beautiful, historic building. The main dining room was closed so we chose to dine in the Rams Head bar. We had a view of Mt Jefferson which was lovely. My husband and I both ordered the Short Ribs entree and it was wonderful! Melt in your mouth meat, onions, whole mushrooms and fingerling potatoes.The entree was so large that neither of us finished ours and we took home a whole other meal. Beautiful food, gorgeous view and professional service! What's not to like?? Unfortunately, it was very hot near the window and everyone in that area was complaining. Additionally, water was served without ice. I needed to ask for ice twice because it melted so fast due to the heat. Thus the 4 stars. read more

Interracial Couples Beware! Racist Wait Staff!!! My wife and I decided to go up to Mt. Hood for the weekend - it was my wife's first experience with snow (and unfortunately overt racism since coming to the U.S.). Let me preface all of this by explaining that my wife is from South America, and had never seen snow. Her experience since coming to Oregon has been great. Friendly and welcoming people no matter where we go in Portland. I'm a white guy, so I've never experienced racism directly until now - and I'm not going to take this sitting down. So, I figured our winter wonderland play time wouldn't be complete without visiting Timberline Lodge - its a historic monument, right? We looked at a variety of food venues and decided on the Ram's Head bar, nice view and the menu looked decent. We found a seat near (key word here) the bar and checked out the menus. The servers were busy so we waited our turn. The (blue-eyed, blond) server approached us and gave us the dirtiest look I've ever experienced. She asked to my wife's I.D. but not mine. I asked why, and she said that we sitting at the bar (which we weren't) and I said we're no where near the bar nor were we ordering drinks. She said that we needed to leave! I asked her why. She said we were disrupting the atmosphere of the place! Needless to say my wife was so upset by the server's behavior that she started crying, and wanted to leave. We did and we'll never go back. The management was no help either. So, if you're lily white, go have a blast, but if you're a interracial or non-white couple beware! read more

Fire Roasted Tomato Soup : The soup was what can only be described as hot marinara sauce in a bowl. The consistency was that of a sauce, not a soup. Flavor was marinara. Could've used a meatball. 2. Pastrami Sandwich : Go to your refrigerator, get some old lettuce and a raw red onion and cut it up. Tear open a package of cold, rigid, discount level pastrami and slap it on a lifeless bun with some swiss cheese and an irresponsible amount of mayonaise. Finally, open a portal to hell, ask one of the demons to hand you a jar of bread and butter pickles. Complete your nightmare sandwich by topping it with these unholy sweet pickles that don't belong on anything ever. Then sell it for $19.00. I just want to be clear. This pastrami sadwich is potentially the most uninspired, feckless creation ive ever paid $19.00 for. Absolutely nothing stands out about it. It would easily be lost in a crowd of gas station quisine and nobody would ever know the difference. Hey, remember when you made your first sandwich?
