The pie is great but the food is so unhealthy it is a huge problem. They need some healthy more vegetarian friendly options.

I take many visitors from out of state out to eat in the Lexington area. When they ask me to take them to someplace "Kentucky" home style, I always take them to Ramsey's. When they return, they always want to go back to Ramsey's. For comfort food and pie!! read more

I don't live in Lex, but visit there often and have eaten lunch or dinner at Ramsey's six or seven times. Meat and three seems a little pricey but is worth every penny. Quality of food and services is very consistent from day to day and location to location. Buffalo Fried chicken is my favorite, but all other's please as well. read more

Genuine good food. Especially the fried chicken and creamed corn. Make sure you save room for pie. Worth the trip even just for a press pot of coffee and slice of pie. read more

This is where I go for my soup beans and cornbread fix. Add some ice tea and my lunch is complete. I have had the hot brown and the burger and the breakfast special - all were delicious. 9 out of 10 times I am going back to my soup beans and corn bread. read more

We went today during the game. We expected a little bit of a wait and were seated immediately, so that made us happy. :) Our server was Laura. She was very sweet and got everything to us very quickly. Our food was so delicious! My burger was perfectly cooked, and my boyfriend (he got the zucchini burger) loved his as well, so we asked to speak to whomever made our meals. His name was Gareth, and he was very nice as well! He definitely know his stuff when it comes to food! Great establishment. We will definitely be back! read more

Ramsey's Diner was awesome. We didn't expect the inside to look so welcoming and a college version of Cheers. Nothing as in the furniture matched and that was the charm of it. We were sat by the window and ordered fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes came with cocktail sauce and the sauce was yummy but the fried green tomatoes were very plain needed a lot more seasoning. Montana Grill in Louisville were the best fried green tomatoes and I had high expectations. At Montana Grill they were chunks so they had better flavor and crunch. Our server Daynah was very sweet and attentive. She was very welcoming and explained the menu very well. My friend ordered a fried chicken sammich and it was huge! My other friend ordered the vegetable platter and the beets were so ridiculously delicious. They had a hint of brown sugar sweetness. I had a fried buffalo chicken sammich and it was the best sammich of my life. The fries were cooked just wonderfully and I inhaled my whole meal. First time ever I didn't take leftovers home. The bun for our sammiches was so fresh I feel it was baked daily. We took pie slices home. Daynah gave us great reviews and explanations of the pies. My friend took a black bottom and a mountain of whip cream. A lot of whip cream! My other friend took a peanut butter pie and I took home key lime. Key lime had a bit bitter taste and not sure if the limes were fresh or lime juice from a bottle. It was still good. If this place was close to home we would eat here more oftern. Great open-face roast beef sandwich. The gravy and mashed potatoes make it even better. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I'm trying to decide if I just need to pity people who have lived their entire lives in Kentucky (especially Lexington). EVERYONE says "Oh, my God, you have to eat at Ramsey's" (and several other restaurants that have subsequently closed -- clue #1). My wife and I just ate there for the third time. First time: OK. Second time: Meh... Third time: quite possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had. The only redeeming thing that happened during the whole meal was that the music feed played "Stray Cat Strut." I ordered the Buffalo Fried Chicken Sandwich: no side of blue cheese brought to table, bun soaked in butter to the falling apart point, no napkins on table (and when I asked for napkins the waitress said "Oh, do you need extras?" No, I need "some" -- there aren't any, so they aren't "extra". The sweet tea had so much ice in it that two pulls on the straw could empty the glass; then it was a 10 minute wait for more. My wife ordered a hamburger, medium rare, with fries. She got a hamburger, charred within a millimeter of its life, with burned and, oddly, stone cold fries. When she asked for a side of mayo from the person that brought our food, the server threw back an "It's on there already" as she returned to the kitchen. True, but not useful for dipping fries in... Her bun was also soaked in butter, but beyond the point of falling apart. If we had not been both starving to death and dead tired, I think we would probably have just left at this point, but we gave it a try. Mistake. The food really was as bad as it looked. We ate what we could and asked for the check. Meanwhile, the "manager" popped his head into the back room. To see if we needed anything? To help the obviously stressed wait staff? Nope. To check the score on the TV. Never once made eye contact with a soul in the room. We got our check and left cash with a reasonable tip. The waitress was no where to be found. I went up to the bar to tell someone there was money on the table. No one there either. Finally someone came out of the back and asked what I wanted. Answer: to be let out, actually. I don't care if it's quaint. I don't care if it's a "tradition." It is an awful little restaurant with poor food and if this is what locals think is "good food," I really do pity them. read more

Great local food! This restaurant has the best food in Lexington. Their home cooked meals are awesome and their Hot Brown is excellent!

I moved to Lexington about 2 years ago and have been a frequent guest at the location on Man O War and Todd's Road. Have never had a bad experience, the food is always amazing and the service exceptional. I recently visited the location on Harrodsburg Road for the first time and although the food was good the experience left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Upon arriving we were eventually greeted at the front door by a gentleman who we clearly interrupted from watching a basketball game at the bar. He sat us, got our drink order and promptly went back to the bar to watch his game. A server passed and he told her the drinks we had ordered. She brought them over. She told us the specials and we ordered. Salads came out immediately and we bantered with her for a few minutes and all was well again. While eating our salads we could hear the (extremely) loud bartender gossiping with what seemed to be another manager (the other one was still watching basketball) about someone had been recently fired from the company. We heard every detail. This was extremely uncomfortable and we could tell the table next to us was frustrated also. We decided when our food came out we were going to get a to go box and leave. We couldn't take it anymore. We interrupted the (gossiping) manager to have our food boxed and he brought us boxes and kind of asked us if everything was ok but we were so ready to get out of there and he was so unprofessional that we just left. I was afraid I would say something I would regret. We asked the server about him and she said he was the general manager and he was "not very good at his job". This whole experience was so ridiculous. I have never been to a restaurant like this ever, especially when there were TWO managers in plain sight that were so oblivious to everything going on. After visiting the other location so many times and always having a wonderful experience with the staff I absolutely could not believe it. Time to do some re-staffing. Won't be back to this location. read more

The best Rueben in town! All the food is fresh and homemade! Don't forget to get pie, or take it home at least for later! So yummy!!!

This place was spoken very highly of by our tour bus guide. As soon as we walked in the man"host" was very straight faced and we got the impression that we were a bother! This was on A Sunday evening around 7 PM. They close at 11p.m. We asked if we could sit out side he sat us under an off the area tent that I guess is an overflow for when it's busy, but it wasn't. So my husband asked if we could sit with the population outside where there were plenty of empty tables. The waitress said yes and we sat there for over 25 minutes never being waited on while waitresses were walking around checking on people and looking around, but no one ever came and waited on us! We ended up leaving with and no one even recognizing and none of the waitresses would even look our way. ! I am a business owner of 2 companies and all I can say is the management and staff had NO BUSINESS TREATING US LIKE THEY DID. This place was a joke!! read more

"As good as it gets" is no exaggeration. I retired and moved back to Central Kentucky this past year, and Ramsey's is almost always the place I take folks who come to visit. I've never been disappointed. The menu selection has such remarkable variety - there is something (many things, actually) for everyone! The service is outstanding, the ambiance is wonderful, the prices are quite reasonable, and, of course, the food is terrific! A great place! read more

After calling to be put on the wait list 40 minutes in advance of arriving, we waited an additional 25 minutes. I understand Mother's Day is one of the busiest days in the serving industry. Unfortunately with this being said, we were understanding. Upon finally getting a table, we had a totally separate person, who was not our server take our drink order. I don't know if it was lack of communication between the two but our server had no idea what we were drinking while taking care of our table. When taking the order she even admitted to not being able to read her own handwriting when putting the order in for the kitchen. I was understanding of this as well because I have served MANY years in the past. As a server, ESPECIALLY on Mother's Day you ALWAYS start with the women at the table. I don't care what table rules you're told to go by because you can easily rearrange your serving pad for seating arrangements.. Others were very helpful in getting us what we needed which either hadn't been put in with the order or was forgotten in the kitchen. Our server was off running food and other things to other parties halfway across the building down a hallway. At the end of our service, our checks were wrong. After payment we decided not to leave a tip on the cards used. After signing, she quickly took another guests server receipt copy to finalize it in her system. She saw there was a slash through the tip line, came back to the table and asked very passive aggressively about there not being an amount on that line. The intention had been to leave a cash tip HOWEVER after that incident those decisions were re-thought. After walking out of the restaurant she AGAIN asked about receipts and tips in front of the restaurant. This is one of the most UNPROFESSIONAL and EMBARRASSING experiences I've ever had in the restaurant industry and I will not return. With good service I always tip between 25-30% no questions asked because I know how hard it is. With mistakes the percentage goes down. With abrupt rudeness and disrespect that is further reduced. read more

The food was gross. I had the catfish, with salad, mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese. The salad just came out of a bag and was fine, but not great. Fish was very bland, but eatable after I pulled off all of the breading. I couldn't eat the Mac and cheese, it was just grainy and mushy. I would never go back even if it was free. read more

I'm for sure coming back here again and again. Not only is the service great but the people care so much about allergies (which is useful in my family), and making sure you have exactly what you need when you need it. Great place!!! read more

I was visiting from Milwaukee on October 16th and was looking forward to some southern style cooking. I was NOT disappointed! The Cajun fried catfish was so tasty, along with the sides of beets, kale and cornbread. To top it off I had the most delicious piece of banana cream pie. Service was excellent and the bartender was extraordinarily attentive, even though she was EXTREMELY busy. I will gladly eat here again! read more

I normally enjoy going to Ramseys. Homecooking, patio, 5 locations (one being 4 mins from my house), and 2 for 1 drinks happy hour...what's not to love? Well apparently there was alot not to love last night when we made reservations at the local one for 25 celebrating a birthday. We showed up, and was informed that they weren't ready yet for us, so we had to wait til the back room cleared out. no biggie. Most of us went to the bar and took advantage of the last few mins of happy hour while waiting. Almost an hour goes by before they seat us. Course the birthday girl is excited about finally getting her party started and waved her hands in the air as we were walking to the back room that was desinated just for our group. Once in seated, the waitress takes our drink orders, and most of us ordered our 2nd drink, some kind of alcohol, while there were a couple ready to order a 3rd and final drink before eating. The manager came back and started handing out water and making a big speech about how this resturant (with a full bar, and beer signs hanging all over the place, and is a well known watering hole) has a 6 drink max and it is a family resturant and he hopes that the b-day girl has a nice evening. uh ok weird, but good to know i guess. so then he procedes to ask if we would like to order something else to drink, to which we responded that we had already placed drink orders and he then explains that we will not be recieving those orders and we are cut off as a group from ordering any more alcohol due to the 6 drink limit. We asked why we were cut off when no one had more than 2, and he just kept saying that this is a family resturant and he didn't want anyone getting rowdy. Most of the group was fine with letting it go and just eating and going out afterwards, being as they had ordered appetizers already. A little while later a couple of us head to the bathroom and are stopped by this man who is alittle more than drunk. He explains how he had heard of us getting cut off and he can't understand why the bar would do that. After thinking about what he said, we tried ordering at the bar, thinking that as long as we drank our drink in the bar area, it might be ok. Upon ordering, the lady bartender said no she couldn't serve anyone in the back room even at the bar, then this guy bartender comes over and starts asking for our names, saying that he is going to have the manager come and talk to us, and that we need to go sit down and stop trying to sneak drinks from his bar. I asked him why were we being refused and he just kept telling me to go sit at my chair. Needless to say, that was the last straw for me. When I went to the table, I explained how I was not going to stay, the whole table had had enough of this resturant and we all left. I handed the waitress $2 and told her that she could pay my husband's tea with that or keep it as a tip either way, but it would be the last $ I spend there. read more
