My truck has been in this shop for an extremely long time because the owner refuses to give it back to me so I can take it to get tires, paint and interior work done by someone else. When my boyfriend did try to bring it to me, it overheated. We should have kept it anyway because getting it back has been impossible. The owner refuses to give me an invoice and he has nothing in writing to show me. I have reported him to the BBB. I needed a shop to diagnose a cranking but no start. They said I don't drive it enough and to get a battery maintainer. $150 + to tell me that. I pick up car and next day it won't start. I called them and the guy came back and asked me if they brought up the fact that they had to smack the fuel tank to get it to start, and that the fuel pump is going out. I said: "No, and why wouldn't they tell me that? That's the whole reason I was in there to begin with?" When replacing the fuel pump the ground wire was completely charred and burned up at the connector. I'm lucky it didn't ignite the fuel inside the tank. This is robbery. Even if they were clear and accurate to diagnose, that should've been at most a $50 ordeal. $0 is actually more like it. Never again. I'll let Scotty Kilmer know and go find an honest mechanic. read more

Took my 67 GTO to Ramsowers. I had been to other shops in town, they had it for over a week, worked on it but it ran just slightly better. Jack and his team did a great job. I brought it in and they had it back to me a few hours later running better than it ever has.They even washed it for me. I called to schedule an estimate for a routine clutch job (clutch slipping.) I was told it would be at least a week before they could look at it. When I said "never mind, it can't wait that long," I was then told they could get me in 4 (work) days later, so the appointment was scheduled for a Wednesday at 7:30 am. I showed up right on time expecting to wait while they came up with an estimate. Nope! I was told "they don't do that" as they have no waiting room and was short a technician that morning -- I would have to leave the car. I didn't plan for that, plus had no ride home so I said "never mind, I'll take the car elsewhere." The receptionist huffed off with my keys mumbling that he'd have to look at it himself. Well, excuse me for bringing you my business. So much drama just to get a routine estimate. Another gentleman was headed to my car with the keys, so I intercepted him and asked that if it was this much of a problem to give me an estimate, what time frame should I expect for work to begin. He told me that would be later the following week. I took the keys from him and left. What part of "it can't wait that long" did they not comprehend? This was my first (and last) time to Ramsower's since it changed hands. (Before that, I'd had repairs done there as far back as the 1970's) I took it straight to another shop where they came up with an estimate while I stood at their counter. I have to second Marty J.'s comment on here. I went to Ramsower's about a year ago to check an alighment issue on my 98' Ford Windstar. They told me it was going to be $500 for just the parts and didn't recommend I do the work. They told me with a car that old it wasn't worth it. Our daughter's car needed some work so of course we took it to our always reliable and honest shop......? Got an estimate for over $1300 of work. Seemed high, but figured our daughter might have been hard on the car. Then my wife looked at the estimate and realized that the parts had around 100% markup, and I began to wonder what happened to Ramsowers? After learning that the great (and I mean that) Carl Ramsower had sold the shop it all began to make sense. Long story short, we took it to another garage and the work was done for around $200!!! WOW! Carl, you are missed my friend. We will never go back there again. Here is an update on just how meaningless the Ramsower's guarantee is. Last week my transmission went out in my van and I was left stranded 60 miles east of Yuma on I-8. The last thing Jack told my wife before he returned our van was that it would not leave us stranded. He made it a point to tell us that he would never let a vehicle leave his shop if it had the chance of leaving someone stranded. Clearly that was a worthless sentiment. read more

I read the reviews online looking for a business that could repair my loose steering in my truck. Ramsower's inspected my truck and told me the gear box needed replacing to correct my loose steering. I told them to replace it. Later, they called again and told me the Pitman Arm also needed to be replaced. Once again I told them to replace the arm as well. $ 905.24 later, I drove my truck home. That's when I noticed fluid on my driveway. The Gear box that was replaced had leaked dry on my way home. Took the truck back in to Ramsower's and left my truck once again. Later that day Chris called my wife and told her it was only a bad O ring and they replaced it and all was well. He then told her that my radiator was leaking and it would cost $ 603.00 to fix. He then told her he was concerned that the radiator would run dry on our drive home. She told him that she hadn't noticed any leaks on the garage floor and that I had not mentioned any leaks or over heating on the truck. She told him to not do anything to the radiator. I once again picked up my truck and all seemed fine. The next week I drove into town and went to put my truck into park and it would NOT go into gear. I took my truck to another mechanic and was told that a nut had come loose off of my transmission. I told him the work that I had done on the truck by another, and asked him to check things out. Including the radiator. The radiator did have a slight leak in it and the only thing wrong with the transmission was the loose bolt, but the Gear box that Ramsower's had put on looked like an old one that someone had painted and was no good. read more

You won't go wrong here. Carl is honest, prompt and polite. He generally knows what is wrong with your car after he talks to you about it in the office. He actually listens and treats you like you have a brain. For example, my son brought him a 20 year old car and wanted the rear window defroster fixed. Carl wouldn't do it and told my son it wasn't worth the money to repair. What a great guy. He doesn't work on European cars. read more

Have taken my vehicle and my husband's van here and they have been very reasonable - lower than we expected. Also I needed to replace a door handle on my van and had ordered the part myself, Jack Furrier's wouldn't use the part I ordered but Ramsower's had no problem with it, saved me from paying for it again at a higher rate. I loved ramsowers WHEN it was owned by Mr. Ramsower himself unfortunately it is no longer the honest establishment it once was. First of all they charged me more than the quoted price for the work second of all they told me it was imminent to take it in for another belt replacement. I called three other businesses they all quoted me less. The worse part is when I took it in to another shop for the replacement belt. He took one look and said "who told you, you needed that it still looks good". So they almost got away with replacing a part that did not need replacing. Its too bad they did not carry on the tradition of fine automotive service that Ramsowers used to provide. read more

We are willing to pay for good service but on the last visit, he did not charge us after 4 days because he was unable to locate the initial problem. Going back when it happens again. I am a recent customer. Ramsower's came recommended by a mechanic friend of the family that used to work with the owner before he bought the business, they worked together as mechanics so his recommendation carried a lot of weight with me. My daughter's 2009 Rav4 transmission went out and I wanted a second opinion and indeed it they confirmed it a bad transmission. Ramsower's changed out the transmission for +$500 less than Desert Toyota and extended Toyota's warranty to 2 years rather than 1 year. Since that experience I have had an oil change on my Tundra and had some replaced fuses/bulbs on the Rav4. Three separate visits. They fix what is needed and don't pressure you into repairs and replacements like the dealerships do. You also don't get nickeled and dimed with shop and other misc fees. My next visit will be soon for the 140,000 check up/inspection on my Tundra. They don't have the nicest waiting room and they aren't that nice to look at but they get the job done and I trust the work. read more

I thought the Ramsower's was honest based on the previous reviews here. The guy wearing glasses in their office looks friendly and gentle, especially to seniors. I think his name is Carl. Careful on this guy, he may be cheating on you. I got twice services there. The first time, I noticed his charge was higher for a basic brake service than other garages, but I did not care too much about the over charge. Because its location is convenient to me, I went to there again when my Honda transmission was out of order about a year ago. I left my car there and asked the guy to make a diagnosis and estimate for repair. He promised me to check the transmission and make a driving test. When I returned on the late afternoon, I was told that he changed the transmission fluid and the car ran smoothly. He charged me almost $200 for a fluid change without flashing. However, when I drove my car out of his garage, the transmission problem was still there. The problem was so clear that even a female passenger riding the car knew the transmission was wrong. Obviously, the guy he did not check the transmission and even did not make a driving test. I came back immediately and asked the guy about his diagnosis. Guess what, he said the first diagnosis step was to change the fluid and the car should be left there for extra work. When he said that, he smiled like an old friend. On that moment, I understood why people gave him good reviews for his service. It was because of his smile. I still feel sick for the smile on his face. I asked if the ~$200 payment I have made could be applied to pay the repair cost. He said "NO! You need to pay the additional cost" I got the transmission checked and rebuilt in another garage.
