Pizza was delicious and love the variety of pan, deep dish, and thin pizza. The tavern pizza was crispy, flavorful, and had tasty toppings. The pan pizza was good, but I little watering at the bottom of the crust. Service was great even though only one server for the whole restaurant that night.

This Place Is Awesome!! I am not sure where to start on what I liked about this place.. This place was recommended by friends from Chicago.. From the moment we walked in the door we were greated by a friendly employee and he made us feel like we were gonna be taken care of.. The place looks like a pizza shop and has a total pizza vibe inside.. The place was clean and the seating was comfortable.. Ok... On to the food... We started with the bacon artichoke dip.. That was sooooooo good and just the right amount of cheese... Yum Yum... We also ordered a medium thin crust pepperoni pizza (to eat there) and we ordered a medium stuffed deep dish with mushrooms, pepperoni, and sausage to bring home for a dinner in a few days.. The thin crust pepperoni was so good.. I am a pizza snob and this was pretty damn good that I struggled to remember when the last time I had pizza this good..I am being honest too.. The deep dish we did a half bake so it cooks easier in our oven at home.. Smelled good in the car for the 90 minute drive home.. Shout out to Chris.. You could tell he cared about the products.. He asks if you have been there before and then helps you decide the right pizza to make your visit the best.. I liked that.. We had a couple of beers to wait for the pizza.. Thank You Chris M.. for a great visit!! Just remember good food is always worth the wait.. Everything is scratch made and it shows in the product when you are eating.. This place also doesn't break the bank either.. Last thing... The Restrooms are clean.. That matters as it reflects on the rest of the restaurant.. THANK YOU RANCE'S !! You Truly Earned My Future Visits..

Small thin crust pizza ($14.50) with five toppings ($2/topping). This was sad compared to my exact order from before. 2/28/2026

I'm so disappointed in the small thin crust pizza I got today. It's the same exact order of five ingredients: mushroom, basil, red onions, green bell pepper, and garlic. For $24.50, it was the saddest looking pizza (see photos for comparison of my previous time in 2025 compared to today. I felt super ripped off because they put so few toppings. I almost couldn't even see the mushrooms were in there! Also, they completely forgot the basil! They told me the basil is not cut/shredded and not whole... which, is another disappointing change unless the basil she put on top is just a topping and not the baked in version I had previously. For $2 per topping, $3 for premium toppings, the amount they put on the pizza is robbery. I also ordered their small stuffed pan Rance's Favorite ($25.50) today and that came out looking like it usually does, which is why I'm still giving them two stars. It could be the because of who made the pizza today, but I'm still so disappointed.

Food was amazing. Takes about 30 to 45 mins for pizzas to come out. But worth the wait, cool little spot to hang out and chill have some drinks sit outside and people watch. The pizza was great, the buffalo wings are huge they are good. But they do have a kick (hot) to them. lol

Rance's Chicago Pizza is approved by two individuals that moved from Chicago a few years ago and that really does say something! Delicious pizza, great ambiance, and even better service. My team and I came on a Thursday for lunch and before we came we called to preorder the pizzas so they would be ready when we arrived instead of having to wait 45 minutes. This definitely was the best way to go for a work lunch outing. This Rance's is tucked away in a big plaza and doesn't seem to get too much foot traffic during the week. Plenty of parking. We got: Caesar salad (great), the carnivore (great) and the best seller/veggie pizza (also great). We definitely each brought a slice or two home and needed a nap post lunch! Our server/manager was amazing, we really felt welcomed and right at home - especially my two team mates who are from Chicago. They definitely are new repeat patrons of Rance's! Highly recommend for some deep dish pizza.

Came here after a bit of shopping on a weekday. It was pretty quiet which was kind of nice. Our waitress was very friendly and patient with us as we've never been here before. She took her time to explain the difference between the pizzas. We ordered Bourbon maple wings which came with a total of 6 wings (3 flats and 3 drumsticks) served with a side of Blue cheese. The wings are very tasty ! It has a great balance of sweet from the maple with a hint of the bourbon in the back. It was pretty good! We ordered a medium CSP (garlic, basil, pesto, spinach and chicken) in a deep dish....keep in mind deep dish takes about 30 mins for dine-in, so don't think the kitchen is goofying off not making your food. At least you know it's fresh! After patiently waiting our gigantic pizza comes out! This thick pizza pie was loaded with cheese, tomatoes and spinach! I was kind of searching for the chicken, basil and pesto. It so super filling! After one slice I was stuffed! I gave it 3 stars, just cause of maybe what we ordered. Personally, it was too much cheese and tomatoes for my liking. It was delicious in the beginning, but after a while it got to be a bit much. Overall, this place is decent. If I come back I'd wanna try a different pizza and not as a deep dish.

This is why I love Yelp. Folks give honest recommendations and reviews and you find gems. Went here today for dinner and we totally enjoyed it! The restaurant is nice and local. Very clean and industrial which is cool. Our servers were great, top tier service. We had a Caesar salad to start and it was a nice portion. We had a pizza, medium size, it was a vegetarian pizza, mushrooms, spinach and black olives. We had an amazing meal! The pizza is the best! Wow!

I was hoping for a better pizza. I ordered a deep dish with mushrooms. A big turn off for me was the large chunks of tomato. It reminded me of Lou's in Chicago. It lacked the amount of cheese another Chicago pizza place gives. The dough wasn't as good either. Service was good. I might try the thin crust pie or appetizers sometime. As for deep dish, I'll pass.

I first had Rance's pizza over a decade ago when my physics professor treated our whole class to it. That was also my very first encounter with Chicago deep dish, and honestly, everything else has been a downgrade ever since. Since then, I've proudly initiated many deep-dish rookies by dragging them here, and the pizza has never missed. Even when I take it to-go, it reheats in the air fryer like it was made five minutes ago. I don't usually eat food that makes me question whether I'll need a nap or a gym membership afterward, but once a year I happily make the pilgrimage. Totally worth the food coma.

I first tried Rance's years ago and had a great experience. The pizza had great flavor, baked fresh and was a nice break from the larger commercial pizza establishments. However subsequent visits had not been the best. I once ordered pizza to go with additional pineapples and upon arriving, they said to wait while they get the pizza cut. Then they showed me the pizza to make sure it's what I ordered and I noticed the pineapples weren't added. They had me wait about 10 min to add them. When I went home, the pineapples seemed like they were from a can. I do still enjoy the pizza - the dough and the crust is pretty unique, and more recently ordered the 12 inch thin House Special with no additional toppings. When I got home, one end of the pizza including the crust was soggy but the other end was ok. It might have been due to condensation buildup but upon first bite it tasted and felt doughy, like the pizza might have been a bit undercooked. After sticking it in the air fryer for another 5 min it turned out fine. Therefore, from my experience ordering out has been a bit of a hit or miss. I appreciate that the staff is usually pretty friendly and they are considerate enough to open the box to show you the pizza to make sure it's correct before you leave. They also offer extra cheese and pepper packets. The parking is in the same lot as a few other eating establishments so to get good parking can be a bit tricky during peak hours.

First time visitor to this location Located in a shopping plaza so plenty of free parking, located next to a ramen shop One main dining area Online ordering and in person dining and phone orders, pending type of pizza anywhere from 30 to 45 min and pending order volume Flat screens for sports Decent beer selection and semi limited too Service was pleasant Much calmer environment than the Long Beach location that appears geared to a stronger following of sports and loudness and camaraderie where as this location was more order to go and quieter setting Food was tasty from the maple bourbon wings 6 pieces 3 drums and 3 wings in a sticky spicy sauce served with ranch Tried the thin small Canadian bacon jalapeños pineapple pizza, nice crunch and festive cut in squares and with a small equated to pieces. Toppings were not skimping at all The deep dish CSP small was hearty but also very oily from the pesto sauce oozing out. Tomato sauce was flavorful and normally don't care for a lot of cheese but this one worked, crunch pull and all I would have rated it as a 4 star but hearing the manager (I assume) and another co worker argue back and forth in the main area was a damper as the sports noise did not suppress their arguing and it went on longer than a few minutes .. sorry very unprofessional from both sides Overall would return back to try other things but atmosphere wise I go to the Long Beach location but for easier parking, Costa Mesa.

Still love this pizza. 14" pepperoni & sausage pan pizza was so good. Super fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. Just wanted to update my review from years ago to confirm that yep, the pizza is still incredible!

Rance's Chicago Pizza Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Rance's Chicago Pizza

What's the difference between pan pizza and the stuff?

Pan is deep dish like numero u I and Chicago is the stuffed with the tomato's on the top. Huge difference in flavor and taste.

Has there been a change of ownership from Rance? Or change of recipe?

Hello Jerome, Thank you for your question. No change in ownership and no change in recipe. Our goal…

    Do they have a bar?

They do not have a bar, but they do have a few tables and a lot of beer on tap. A small wine selection also

Do we have to make reservations? Or can we just arrive there and get a table?

it's not a white table cloth place. But if you go and plan to order the deep dish , i recommend calling ahead to order and eat when you get there. it takes 45 minutes to make .…

Is there a corkage fee if you'd like to bring your own wine?

There is a corkage fee but it's less than $10

Is this location doing dine in like normal?

As of May they were. I would suggest calling in your order in advance if you are getting deep dish- they take 45 minutes to cook.

Should I try Pan or Stuffed and why?

I like the pan, it has the best ratio of all ingredients and the crust is so buttery and delicious! The stuffed is a little too much cheese for me. But both are delicious

How are the breadsticks ? Is the same buttery crust from the stuffed pizza used?

I haven't had the bread sticks. However, the crust isn't the Lou Malnati's style buttery and crispy. But it is the best Chicago style deep dish around.

How many people does a 14 in Stuffed Pizza serve?

We always get a 14 inch for three of us (my husband, our college aged son, and me). Every so often, we will manage to finish one completely (but we are completely STUFFED), but most of the time, we will be STUFFED and have about 1 - 2 pieces left…

Since the cooking time is ~45 min, is it possible to Order Online for Pickup, but dine in there?

I'm not sure about ordering online but I know you can call ahead and order and it'll be ready when you get there

Is this really close to chicago style pizza?

Hi Frankie. Yes this is Chicago style. As others have mentioned there are some slight differences which many people like better. We use wisconsin mozzarella just like in Chicago. Everything is made from scratch. Hope to see you soon!

Do you guys sell vegan pizza?

Hello Tania. Yes we do have a vegan and gluten free option for the crust and vegan Daiya cheese which people seem to really enjoy. Hope to see you soon.

    What time is lunch special?

Hello John. The lunch special is from 11am to 3pm daily. Hope to see you soon!

Is there better pizza in the OC than this?

For Chicago Style pizza, no. But then not everyone likes Chicago Style pizza.

    Do you have vegan options?

Hello Elizabeth. Yes we do have a vegan and gluten free option for the crust and vegan Daiya cheese which people seem to really enjoy. Hope to see you soon.

    Is Rance's open on Christmas?

Hi Alex. Yes we opened at 2pm on Christmas and plan to do the same this year.

Do they have gluten-free pizzas? (Dough without wheat.) Thank you.

No. But I heard it's available at the Long Beach location.

The caramel espresso martini was absolutely perfect--delicious, perfectly sweet, and exactly what I was hoping for. It definitely hit the spot. For dinner, I tried the chef's special: the fettuccine with scallops and mushrooms. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing for me because it was very bland. I ended up adding salt just to bring out some flavor. The scallops themselves were seasoned well and tasted great, and both the scallops and the pasta were cooked perfectly. The sauce had a wonderful, creamy texture--it just lacked flavor. I think it could have benefited from something cheesy, tangy, peppery, or simply a little more seasoning. Even with that, I'm still giving this place five stars because the service was outstanding. They genuinely listened to my feedback about the meal and went above and beyond to make things right, which says a lot about how much they care about their customers. Once my sandwich arrived, I dove in, and it was good! I wish the chicken was a little meatier and juicy, though. I also didn't really taste too much of the mozzarella and provolone. I love that melted cheese you get with the bite, but it sort of was lacking. The sauces were prevalent and tasty. It wasn't the best I've had, but still good, nonetheless. I had a side of salad and it was just a regular mixed green salad. The service was fantastic! Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. I didn't catch her name, but she had her long, blondish-brown hair in a ponytail braid. I love the ambiance with how open, bright, and airy it feels. Here's the breakdown: Food - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 5/5 I would definitely recommend this place for drinks and appetizers with a really nice ambiance and great service!

Great chicken parm, good capresi in the cold case, nice guys behind counter, fresh food. But they…read moredo not sell any sandwiches for vegetarians. None. Nada. They can't even make on the guy said. Sweetly, nicely, but they couldn't even make a cheese hoagie with lettuce and tomato despite having all those things on the cold case in front of us. Again, fresh food, nice people, but NO sandwiches for sale without meat. Really? Maybe the attached sit down restaurant has those, vut an Italian deli with a cold case full of ingredients to not be able to make a veg sandwich is something to reconsider esp. in OC. I do recommend this place's food.

Went to this excellent little unassuming restaurant first time yesterday before a concert. It's…read morelocated in a little strip mall and from outside it's adequate & mildly inviting, but when you enter, the furnishings are thoughtful & you can feel the care that went into the restaurants design, from the dining area, the cafe/deli and even the restrooms. Had perfectly cooked Al dente penne pasta (all pasta is handmade in house) with their special Sunday sauce and homemade sausage. I can't stop thinking about the meal! Sausage was perfectly firm and full of flavor, the sauce has pork and beef drippings from the meatballs made prior in the day...so full of flavor & deep in color that can only come from slow cooking. Our server asks if I preferred wine & a little chili in the sauce (heck yeah!) & the result was subtle & perfectly & robustly flavored. Left a nice soft warmth in my throat after each bite. My hubby ordered garlic bread, & it was buttery with spot on garlic & toasted to a nice crispness. We split the pasta entree and I had one sausage & he had two. Honestly the next time we go, I'll have my own. Not because the portion wasn't ample, because it was; because everything about the dish was perfection to me & so delicious I just don't want to share. We each had an ice cold Pinot Grigio & after the meal I had an espresso, steaming hot, strong with a nice froth. On my way to use their sparkling clean ladies room, I chose a cannoli and cucidades and dark chocolate (with sprinkles!) butter cookies from the deli to share at the concert. The pastries were all tender, rich & delicious! I've made cucidades with Sicilian relatives; these were better! (Shhhhh, don't tell Sal or Gina!). I can't wait to visit this little gem of Italian perfection & goodness again. I've written many reviews of restaurants throughout my travels. Yelp & personal reviews from real people is how I choose restaurants and meals when we travel. If I had to vote one to be number one & my all time favorite, Filomena's would most definitely be it!. You've got to go! *As a note, Mexican/latin food is my favorite but after last night! Who knows???

We came here after a disappointing appointment at Hermes, where I didn't receive the bag I was hoping for. suprisely we got sitted immediately after our arrival and our server Nikki came right away We ordered penne pomodoro which I asked to be spicy and the flavor matched the spice very perfectly and the pizza and kids food arrived very quickly. Our server came by four times to refill our drinks, which honestly surprised me because that level of attentiveness doesn't happen often, even at some of the more expensive restaurants nearby The only problem I had was the truffle fries which was too oily and smelly and the fries didn't seems fresh but our attentive and caring server immediately took them back, apologized, and offered to replace them. The atmosphere is very family friendly I recommend this place to enjoy your weekend for your family gatherings I feel so valued and special thank to the amazing service and food

The vodka sauce was rich, creamy, and coated every piece of fusilli perfectly. The Italian sausage was cooked really well and added so much flavor. Even though I'm usually not a mushroom person, I actually really enjoyed them in this dish. Adding a little Parmesan cheese and fresh cracked black pepper took it to the next level. Their espresso martinis are also a must-try. The bartenders definitely know what they're doing the drink had the perfect balance of bold espresso and smooth alcohol without either one overpowering the other. It was refreshing, well balanced, and one of the better espresso martinis I've had. I definitely recommend giving it a try!
