My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water.

Since Bandera is a bit of a drive from San Antonio, I decided to make a little day trip out of it. I came across this café and immediately thought it was such a cute spot. Parking was a little tricky, with limited spaces available right in front, but it wasn't a major issue. When I walked in, I was greeted right away by two friendly baristas. I asked for a recommendation and ended up ordering one of their favorites--the Honey Badger. It was delicious and definitely a solid choice. What stood out most to me wasn't even the coffee--it was the atmosphere. The shop felt warm, welcoming, and full of community. There were families and friends catching up, and there was even a dedicated area where kids could play while everyone relaxed. The coffee shop sits above the restaurant below, giving it a cozy, tucked-away feel. After getting my drink, I settled into one of the couches and ended up playing my Nintendo Switch for a few hours. It was one of those rare coffee shops where you feel comfortable lingering without feeling rushed. Overall, if I find myself back in Bandera, I would absolutely stop by again for a coffee and maybe try one of their snacks next time. We walk in and there were at least 3 waiters around looking at us confused if we should order at the counter seeing a line there or just seat ourselves. In general from what I know baked potatoes might include bacon and my friend doesn't eat bacon. The way she answered about it was such a turn off! The Texas Spud when it came to the table I ended up having a full understanding of it by eating it. So basically it is a baked potato with chili on it (no meat) it feels it came from a can and cheese pickled jalapeño and sour cream decorated with tortilla chips around it. It was ok but I could say I have tried it. The restaurant itself is very old. I believe it is the oldest running restaurant in Bandera I got to see The John Wayne Room which is western-themed dining room. Decorated with memorabilia dedicated to "The Duke". Maybe this place was a chic place at one time- but that time was in the last century. Nothing special about the menu- it is typical Mexican fare. My wife called out the tortilla chips and salsa as "thumbs down". She's on the money on this one. Salsa was tasty (spicy) but the chips bordered on stale. We were there in the late afternoon (about 4-5) and when we walked in the place was nearly empty. The one server on duty was being constantly harassed by a table full of Hispanic dudes that seemed to thing she was their own private server. Usually it doesn't bother me, in fact I really don't like a server hovering over us. But we and the other customers who came in were treated like second class customers. We saw her once when we came in, once when we ordered, once when she dropped off the drinks and once when we got our food. The rest of the time she was occupied with the seven hombres drinking beer. The dudes kept calling out for her and we had to pry her away from them to get the check and pay. No- we didn't get any refills! The food was warm and pleasantly arranged on the plate but not anything I would write about and say.. .wow... that's great. It was average to below average in taste and portion size. The beans and rice were cold. I hate to judge a place on one experience- but it was a not a place I'll go back to. I kept thinking one of those loud dudes was going to stand up and come over to our table to challenge me, "Okay Gringo, I don't like you, get the f*** out of my restaurant..." Click.
