Had lunch here and the food was really good. The rolls were terrible and burnt. I had the Manicotti with Alfredo & Hubs had the Lasagna. We both really enjoyed our meals. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CRAP! They use to be fantastic, but in the rush to open more locations, their quality has suffered terribly. My husband and I got spaghetti with meat sauce and meat balls, and shrimp tortellini. The flavor in the sauce was lacking... it just tasted kind of vaguely fruity, and the pasta was broken all to hell, because it is so over cooked, you could mash it with your fork with no effort at all... it literally turned to mush as soon as it was in my mouth. If you want pasta, you would be better off with some store bought ragu (un altered) and pasta. Or better yet go to Casa Pasta in San Antonio or Olive Garden... because as pedestrian as they are they are MILES better then Pap's. We were in town for an event and never thought about Italian in little ole Bandera. Boy were we wrong. There weren't many choices so the four of us decided to give it a shot. Quite the friendly family type atmospheres were hoping for. They brought out fresh large dinner rolls that were scrumptious. I decided on the shrimp fettuccine and my wonderful wife had the baked ziti. It looked so good when it came out and piping hot. The place was fairly busy but still didn't wait that long for our dinner. Oh boy!!! It was delicious! I've had Italian all over the country and was quite shocked how good this was. Unfortunately, the Bandera Pap's Italian Grill was empty for the whole 2 hours my husband and I were there for lunch Tuesday from 11:45-1:45 and I have no idea why. They have 12 luncheon specials ($9.99 each, less than the cost of a Big Mac Combo) which include fresh made hot rolls and a large side salad. Choices are Cannelloni, Lasagna, Manicotti, Cheese Ravioli, Baked Tortillini, Baked Ziti, Eggplant Rollatini, 4 Spaghettis (one mushroom), and Chicken Parmiasan. The 5 of us each had something different and the proportions were huge. The Chicken Parm which instead of the usual breaded flatened chicken included a breast with a very light breading. The chicken, spaghetti and sauce were cooked perfectly and everyone enjoyed the meal. Our total bill was under $100 before tip for 3 specials, 2 off the menu seafood items and 2 teramisu. I'm glad we live in Kerrville but from now on whenever I am in Bandera, I will probably be eating here. read more

They also have bread rolls when you sit and they were pretty good. Really good after covering in butter and dipping in parmesan cheese The place itself is outdated and could use some work. The staff ranged from a guy who was super friendly to a lady who was not friendly. She seemed that she did not wanna be there. She was our waitress, but the guy ended up checking up on us more and brought part of our food. I'm not sure if they sell beer or wine there as I didn't see anyone having any. Hubby had the Shrimp & Salmon with penne pasta, NOT soggy at all! Salmon had a beautiful crisp on it and cooked perfectly! The chicken in the fettuccine is not worth the extra money, in fact my husband picked it out to not have to eat it. The noodles and sauce however, were just right. The best bang for your buck in my opinion is the meatball sub. It's enormous! Enough to make 2 or even 3 meals out of. The pizza is so so. It's nice because you can bring your own bottle of wine in to enjoy with your meal and that's nice. I went down to San Antonio to visit my brother and his family. While I was there he said let's go to Pap's Italian grill for lunch. And man was he right on point with this pick. He doesn't live that far away from this little restaurant so we went. I had the shrimp scampi and he had the chicken Marsala. We really enjoyed all of the food. I had a salad with mine. The food was amazing and delicious all at the same time! The price was right and after I finished eating I wanted more! If you are hungry and want some great food you need to eat there.! Their excuse is (both times they excused it & charged me for it) everything is fresh and eggplant can be overpowering. You want good Italian food? I found the place in Bandera, Texas. Pap's located in a strip mall off of Hwy 16 just before Main Street. This place in my opinion has the best Italian food. The last meal I ordered from there was the veal and shrimp Marsala and the lasagna both plates were excellent. I have also had the supreme pizza which was great. The sauces and dressings to me seem to be homemade. The food is better than other pizza places that are around ever corner through out San Antonio. I like to have wine with my Italian food unfortunately they don't serve alcohol at this place. I usually order takeout problem solved. If you love or like Italian food this place is a must. OMG! This Italian is so good! The Sicilian Marsala was so rich, perfectly cooked shrimp, delicious mushrooms and tender veal. The shrimp and chicken special was extra special with awesome raviolis and thick and creamy white sauce. This place is a hidden gem. Family owned and run, it probably some of the best italian food I've had anywhere - what a surprise to find it in little Bandera. Great service, friendly staff. Everything we've tried here has been good. Homemade dinner rolls are awesome! The Shrimp Tortellini is my personal favorite. The portions are big, you always end up with left overs. The food was super great, but the older Italian men at this place need to find a different line of work. They had 2 younger servers who they were talking down to as if they were retarded in front of everyone. When I checked out at the register up front the older balding server dude snatched my card from me, threw the receipt at me, tossed the pen at me, and then bumped into me on his way out of the Register. Not many choices for Italian food in Bandera, Texas. However, My wife and I decided to eat dunner at Pap's on Saturday June 12, 2021 based on the favorable reviews. I was greeted by unfriendly staff with forced smiles. You could just feel and see that they hated their jobs. All would be forgiven if the food made up for the poor service. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala, and I ordered the Pasta Sampler. The zuccchinic and carrots in my wifes' Marsala were crunchy, and severely under-cooked and she said the Chicken had a weird taste. My pasta sampler consisted of melted cheese over pasta. There are some photos floating around that someone else has taken. Not exaggerating, Hands-down the worst Italian food my wife and i have ever eaten. 3 steps below Olive Garden. Don't know where are these positive reviews came from, but the food at Pap's was terrible. If i could leave negative stars on Yelp, I would. There are much better options to eat in Bandera, Texas..
