Love the plastic free packaging, first of all. The restaurant is good sized. Plenty of parking and seating. We were the only customers at the beginning of our visit; four or five other tables when we left. We were, obviously, seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly. The food and service were GREAT. Our food came out cooked perfectly and quickly, and it surprised us because of how much was on a plate. We are not small people but we can order one meal and share it. The waitresses were very polite, professional, and friendly. I found only one thing I would like different and that is the hours of service on their menu. We will return for sure and would tell anyone interested what a great place to eat. My girlfriend had been employed there for about 6 months. They treated her more nasty than i ever thought a boss could. They yelled at her to the extent of making her cry in front of the whole restaurant. Made her paycheck late multiple times. And was just down right nasty. PSA: I'm 18 years old I've been working at Vjs Florida barbecue in Monticello for about 5 months. The entirety of me working there I've been spoken to in such a harsh manner. I've had many jobs and I've never been spoken to the way I have here. I quit one day because ms Jane (one of the owners) was yelling at me so harshly in front of the packed restaurant it brought me to tears over a slight issue that wasn't my fault it was a misunderstanding of her not looking to the next screen in the kitchen to see the order I rang in. And they called me and asked me to come in and talk to them and work something out. And what they told me was "it's just our culture we yell it out and keep on getting business done" . I've also been harshly yelled at in front of my customer in the drive through window because I rang in a glass of milk for $3 (wich is what it's priced at in the system) but she wanted it to be charged for $5. I'm supposed to get payed every Friday but they tend to not give us our checks untill Tuesday. I recently had a new car and was waiting for my check I was supposed to receive on Friday to pay for my insurance. They last minute told us they didn't have them and if we needed an advance to let them know and it was no problem. So I went to ask vander (the other owner) if I could get some of my check because I needed it by that day. I was then yelled at told I was absurd and they are not a bank and that it is not their problem. Well I recently started a new job at longhorn so I could have two jobs in case anything like that ever happened again with my paycheck. I told Ms Jane and vander i am starting a new job but it's in the evening and does not conflict around my schedule at all I just wanted to lyk. They told me that was fine and they were very happy for me. Well today we got sent the new schedule and my name wasn't on it, so I go up there and I ask them why they didn't tell me I was being fired and there response was "we don't want you working two jobs if you work at my company you only work here". I don't understand how they expect there employees to make a living not giving paychecks out on time and then fire me because I picked up a second job. I'm simply making this post to educate people what kind of business there giving there money too. They are not kind people they haven't been kind to any of their employees and we have all been spoken to in such a harsh manner. read more

I just want to say, it is disrespectful to the customs to hear the bosses yelling at the employees. And how nasty the place is how are yall still in business with no heater in the middle of winter!!! AND LETS NOT FORGET about the water damage to the roof that is so bad that it now shows on the inside. I worked in roofing for 2 years and I know that water damage is not up to regulation. read more

I went here for the first time today with a friend and we really enjoyed the food! I had the 1/2 chicken, fried okra and potato salad. The okra appeared to be frozen but was still very tasty and fried well. The potato salad was really good and the grilled chicken was mostly falling off the bone and juicy. It was clean and the servers were really polite and attentive. My friend had the OMG burger and fries. She said it was really good and it must have been because there was nothing left on her plate. The service was wonderful, from the very accommodating hostess to the very attentive waitress that took care of us! We ordered the smoked meat sampler, which was outstanding. Hushpuppies are not on the menu as a side, but the waitress allowed us to have some as a side with an upcharge! We highly recommend this place!! Very clean and plenty of parking. read more

The food was mostly OK but it took forever to get it to the table. We had 5 in our party. There was a party of 2 and another party of 6 next to us. We were the first ones to come in and place our order. The party of 2 got their food and ate and left before we got our food. The party of 6 came after us and was served their food well ahead of us. I told the waitress that I would like to see a manger, she informed me that there are no managers, only owners. I told her, please let me see the owners. The waitress assured me that owner would come out after we ate. Well, the owner never even acknowledged us for all the time we were there. This is some of the poorest customer service that I have seen. I was business owner for 35 years and I would've treated my customers like that, my business would not have lasted as long as it did. I will not be likely to go here again, or at least for a while. read more

We stopped in here on our way out of Florida. The food is all hand made and some of the best bbq I've ever had. It was the perfect food for our travel weary souls. The environment was pure southern hospitality. The servers were friendly. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

My husband decided to try the new barbecue place in town. We went in wanting bbq however we changed to the shrimp dinner. It was absolutely fabulous. The shrimp was cooked just right and the coleslaw was absolutely delicious. The young lady that waited on us was very friendly very much customer oriented. Took time to talk with use.
