A little disappointed by the chile relleno. It was way too greasy. I knew it's a deep fat fried dish but I had it in other restaurants where it wasn't so greasy. I also had a chicken taco and it was good. The best part of the meal were the chips with salsa and guacamole. The chips had a good corn flavor and not greasy. The salsa fresh with the right spicy profile. The guacamole had that homemade flavor, delicious. They don't take reservations and there was a waiting list. Took 15 minutes to get seated. read more

We walked in and the couple behind us were taken to their table promptly. We waited patiently and waited for our table to be cleaned. There were many open tables already but finally sat with menus. We had lunch there and opted to eat inside rather than on the patio. One of us ordered two blue corn beef enchiladas with vegetarian chili (their red and green chili is made with ground pork unless you ordered the vegetarian green chili. The other diner ordered two beef chalupas. Both plates were generous portions served with rice and beans. The real treat is the big fluffy sopapilla that comes with every meal and which is served with honey. No other dessert needed. The server was attentive enough to keep tea glasses filled. This was by far the best meal we've had in Taos. I'm happy they offer vegetarian Chile, and vegetarian enchiladas which can easily be made vegan without the cheese. They were delicious, and the portion was good for the price. My husband got the beef stuffed sopapilla with both chile, and he also said it was the best meal he had. With both meals you get complimentary sopapilla which is fluffy and delicious. Service was very good. The restaurant is a lovely Adobe style, super cozy and welcoming. read more

We could not enjoy this meal no matter what because of the number of yellow jackets that were on, under, and around the table. The wasps flew on our food, in my drink, and kept crawling on our table. Service was slow and I felt like nobody was coming to help with our orders or food. read more

Ok food was ok...I didn't enjoy their relleno as it was tough and sooo much breading--FYI they do not serve alcohol so no margaritas. There are other places with the better quality of food and ambiance that do serve Margaritas and alcohol. I wasn't aware, so I thought it should be mentioned. That and the patio is NOT pet friendly. We had the combo plate with an enchilada, relleno and beef taco "Christmas". It was good and fresh...(except the previous mentioned relleno). We were at Tao Pueblo and since it was raining, I was able to score my indian fry bread. Turned to Yelp to the next closest thing and this spot pops up and saw sopapillas. Being from Tucson, I grew up on this comfort food that this place has to offer. We arrived Saturday around 11 and there was already a 15 minute wait. While we waited, we scanned the menu. I ordered the grilled taco and bean tostada a la carte. Angel was our waitress and was top tier when it comes to her. Where the locals eat! The service was great! Prices on the menu were very reasonable. We ordered huevos rancheros and bean tostadas. Food was full of flavor! At the end of the meal they brought out a couple sopas. Nice and hot and perfect with honey! Great atmosphere! The restaurant is tucked away off the street. Solid, simple, breakfast. We had to wait a while to be seated for breakfast but it was Sunday morning so you will get that anywhere. While the food was nothing special it did the trick and The ambiance of the outdoor patio was great. Ok I'll just say it - I'm a New Mexican food snob. Now, with that out of the way, this place is merely adequate. Ordered the carne adovada - the red chile looked delicious yet had no flavor and was not even slightly spicy. The green chile was slightly better but served in a gloppy Colorado green chile style, which was not what I was expecting. You can't have really good New Mexican food without really good chile, unfortunately, and this place doesn't deliver. In other news, I was disappointed that the flour tortillas were not home made. The soapillas were the highlight. Staff were very friendly. I'm pretty sure there aren't actually any really good New Mexican restaurants in Taos. I drove to Dixon just to have better food and it was worth it not to be disappointed like I was after this meal. read more

We saw this restaurant on diners, drive-in and dives and they were famous for their chili. The food was authentic, New Mexico food the chili also very authentic in flavor and texture. The blue corn enchiladas were so very authentic in flavor. Everything we ordered was delicious and true to New Mexico cuisine no disappointment. We seated right away. The waitress took care of all of our needs as far as refills and assisting us in the menu decisions. The ambience is very simple nothing flashy or colorful. Just a very old Adobe building. You can tell it was from the original walls and original floors, extremely humble and simple but very warm and comfortable inviting atmosphere. We will eat there again, the food is everything that it was advertised to be. You can rarely say that about any place. read more

Tried my friends adovada and the sauce was excellent but the meat was tough. I got a combo w/beef taco, tamale, and relleno, all smothered w/green chili which was tasty. Not a fan of the sopaillas. Overall good decently priced food if you're hungry but nothing super wow'd me, probably won't be back if in the area. read more

What a great afternoon pit stop while visiting Taos' many historic sites. This one is situated next to the famous San Francisco de Asis Church made known worldwide by Ansel Adams and Georgia O'Keefe. Ranchos Plaza Grill is also quite famous with a history as colorful and interesting as the Church and surrounding buildings it shares with Ranchos Plaza. Accolades abound, including the best southwestern meal in New Mexico, the best green Chile anywhere, etc. all of which is true. Unlike so many other famous restaurants that become caricatures of themselves and commoditize their food, Ranchos Plaza Grill has not suffered any degradation of its quality and authenticity. RPG is always a frequent stop during my time in Taos. The food is delicious and in very generous portions. Their green and red chile comes with and without meat. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food is prepared when ordered so it might take a while but it will be worth it, trust me!!! My favorite dish is the Chile Rellanos. I'm already looking forward to next year's trip!! read more

I stopped in for a late lunch. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch. I had a bit of a wait and I left my number with the hostess while I looked around the plaza. I was looking forward to sopapillas and blue corn enchiladas. Soooo good!! The sopapilla was light and delicious, it was served with a little honey bear on the side. I had cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Very cheesy and just the right amount of spice. Rice and beans were good too. My sprite came in a big glass with crushed ice, refreshing. The service was excellent and attentive even though it was close to closing. I also got guacamole, salsa and chips to go. Fresh and tasty. The red salsa was a little hot. The restaurant itself is in an old (maybe historical) building and was charming, small rooms and murals on the walls. There was an old school gumball machine in the waiting area. Excellent prices. This place is a little off the beaten path and well worth driving to. It's just outside of Taos yet had a very local vibe. read more

Our plan A didn't workout but we remembered this place from a previous trip where we had tried to have dinner here but because of COVID they didn't have dinner time open hours. I had the Huevos rancheros with Christmas salsa and my husband had the carne adovada. We both thought out meals were good. I found mine to be a little salty but I am salt sensitive so that is common for me. Was I glad we tried it, yes. Would it be a first choice to go back to? More like 3.5 stars. Were told 20 minute wait, but was around 10 minutes. Ordered chips & salsa. Disappointed that chips weren't even warmed. Salsa was nicely spicy. Husband ordered 3 item combo - 2 chile rellenos & a pork tamale. I ordered the red chile adovado. While my dish was very good, the chile rellenos were so tough, that we asked for a steak knife & STILL had problems cutting it! Taste was okay, but not fantastic. Waitstaff was ok. Nachos were terrific and worth every penny. Nice setting, especially on patio. It can get busy and there is often a wait. Tip: Come within 30 minutes of closing to have a shorter wait, especially on Sunday. The star of the meal was the Pork Adovada enchiladas. Amazing texture, quality meat, so incredibly flavorful. I'll be dreaming of this dish for months to come. Seriously... Pork Adovada. Get it and thank me later. My wife's ridiculously inexpensive $9 huevos rancheros was also excellent. Wow! After going to mass at San Francisco Asis, we decided to try this eatery out. Be prepared to wait - it is SO crowded - but it is worth the wait. The restaurant is spread among several colorful rooms with artwork by local artists and a patio that is in use with weather permitting and adequate staff. The staff is working so hard to make sure that you have the best experience possible - everyone hustles. A cute, clean restaurant with great service, but the food is the real star. Everyone was so happy with their meal. Personally, I had the fantastic veggie enchiladas, Christmas style, and they were just out of this world. The beans are tasty and fresh as well. But those enchiladas were heavenly - tons of super fresh veggies in a housemade sauce which is the best that I have had on this trip. The veggies included squash, broccoli and onions. The sopapillas were also the best that we have had on our visit. I tasted a bit of DH's beef taco, which was delicious. We shared the rest of our plates, so I can say that the chile relleno and pork tamale are both fantastic (even if I think that I had the best dish). The tamale was moist and meaty, while the chile relleno was the right balance of cheese, pepper and sauce. The food really dazzles. The lamb fajitas were way overcooked to the point that they were shriveled and tough. The cheese in the enchiladas was thin and runny.
