The tech that was sent out refused to repair a leak in my built in whirlpool tub drain stating parts were no longer available and I would need to replace the tub. So I then bought a tool needed to unscrew the tub drain strainer and used some new plumbers putty to reseal the drain, TUB FIXED. Also needed a 3/4 inch copper valve replaced and was given a quote of $341.00. I decided that was way to high and I would do the job myself. The total work time for me was 25 minutes and $14.00 for the valve. In effect I was to be charged over $600 per hour labor by the plumber!

I've used these guys exclusively for the last few years, and I've never, ever been disappointed. Jason was even very patient with me, as I was late getting away from my client to meet him. He sat in my driveway for 30 minutes waiting for me to get home. I've used cheaper "handyman" types, and other plumbing/heating companies, but I've never been completely satisfied. These guys even do bi-annual inspections to make sure everything is tip-top shape.

While the help was not helpful during the install (The dude just had a personal thing going on) and did not finish the job. He also over tightened a few things that caused them to be bent (glad my new value was damaged upon installation). Randy did come out and got us so we had air, but some of the main issues were left exposed, such as being left with holes in the house where rodents got in. They had to rebuild the unit because the first guy made a mess, so my hats off to the two guys who Randy sent out to fix the hot mess I had. This is where it falls back on Nichols. There was a verbal agreement between Randy and I and he did not live up to 100 percent of it, my bad for not getting it in writing. Also as Randy was trying to make me whole from the fiasco of an install we were not able to touch base and I was left holding the bag. Lastly, I had them out for a free service check up and I asked about a quote for a whole house dehumidifier. I was willing to try and salvage this because he came recommended and everyone has a bad day. It has been many days/ over a week easy, and crickets. Wow.

When the heat exchanger in our new furnace failed in less than 10 years we elected to buy another furnace due to the design of the scrap metal we were already contending with. During the process of the second unit installation and after it was done we came to the realization that the office and field staff of Nichols did not give a pinch of poop about the safety or comfort of our family and especially after they received our money. Buyer beware!!

5-Star Review for Oak Electric…read more I can't say enough good things about Oak Electric! From start to finish, they've been dependable, professional, and impressively fast. They handled the installation of my furnace, A/C, and generator. Every single step was smooth, efficient, and stress-free plus competitively priced! What really sets Oak Electric apart is the people. I genuinely love working with my Oak team and I say "my" because they truly feel like an extension of my family. Whether I'm calling with a question or scheduling service, I'm always met with kindness, honesty, and a sense that I'm genuinely being taken care of. They NEVER dismiss my concern or questions. They show up when they say they will, do the job right the first time, and take the time to explain everything clearly. Plus they follow-up. I never feel like just another customer. They treat me with respect and care, every single time. If you're looking for a company you can rely on for quality work and a personal touch, Oak Electric is it. I wouldn't trust my home comfort and backup power to anyone else!

Overall, I've been pleased with the installation and the system itself. My concern is with the follow-up service. Part of the critter guard came loose and fell off, and it has now been almost three months since I first contacted Oak. During that time, I've corresponded with three different people at the company as well as their phone service. I initially asked whether the repair was covered under warranty. I also asked that, if it was not, they simply provide a parts list or tell me what I would need to buy so I could address it myself. I still have not received that information. I was subsequently told that Oak would take care of the repair, but almost three months later the critter guard is still sitting on the sidewalk. This seems like a relatively minor issue, and I've tried to be flexible about the solution. I would be satisfied either with Oak reattaching it as promised or with enough information to understand what is needed to fix it properly. I chose Oak in part because of its participation in Ann Arbor's organized solar group-buy program, and I otherwise like the solar installation. I'm posting this review because the normal service channels have not resolved what should be a straightforward service request. I hope someone at Oak sees this and gets it taken care of. I'll be happy to update the review when it is resolved.

STAY AWAY! I…read morecontacted Absotemp because my air conditioner broke -- right before a heat wave. I was told that there was a service charge of $90 and was given a 4 hour window. Matt, apparently the owner of the company, came a few minutes after the end of that window, a couple minutes after 4:00 p.m. (BTW, he smelled of pot.) When he got here, he asked what the problem was & I explained that the air conditioner wasn't working. He immediatey went to the furnace. I told him I wasn't having trouble with the furnace, it was the air conditioner. He then proceeded to tell me that they are connected, my furnace is old and inefficient, and possibly dangerous. He spent a lot of time looking at it and taking pictures. He then got a phone call and was gone for about 15 minutes. He came back and continued explaining to me about the different kinds of furnaces. I reminded him that I called him about the air conditioner. He asked what kind of thermostat I had and then he finally went to look at the air conditioner. He said that was old as well (both were probably original and from the 1970s), but he couldn't figure out when. He called someone about tracing the model, but they couldn't do it either. He then came back into the house & said he'd go into his truck and write up an estimate. An hour and a half later, I went outside to see if he was still here. All of his prices were really high. And again, it was AIR CONDITIONING repair that I contacted him about. After he asked if I had any questions, I said, "I asked you to come out because of the air conditioning. Can you do anything about it?" He huffed and went outside. He came back in after a couple minutes and said that it was the motor fan and "There's nothing I can do about, it Sweetie." :O (That was the second time he called me that!) When I asked if he had any suggestions, he said "Stay in the basement." It was not said with humor. He then asked for a check ("or an ACH") -- AND HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING except waste nearly 4 hours of my time. I had 3 other companies come out after that. Not a single one charged for an estimate, they didn't take ridiculous amounts of time, and they didn't try to oversell me. Needless to say, I chose a different company.

So thankful for a company that stands behind their work and commitment especially during these temperatures! Today, we had a furnace installed. The guys were here from 930a-530p, we get home at 730p to water leaking from the furnace all over our basement, a 24/7 phone line that tells me next available service is tomorrow at 2P and that there in fact is not actually any emergency service available. So, now my house will be super cold yet again while I guess I wait for what I paid for to be already complete. I was thrilled with how quick they came out to assess the problem, install the furnace but now apparently when it comes to ensuring the quality of their work or product I can just wait until tomorrow.

Stay away from HVAC Comfort, Inc. Here are the 3 main issues we had with the service we received:…read more 1) Our A/C went out and during the inspection they were concerned the Heat Exchangers in the furnace were rusting and could cause a carbon monoxide leak. They told me they had to "shutdown the system". I took that to mean it had to be off while they worked on it. They cut the wires inside the furnace so the A/C and furnace could not longer be used without telling us. (We didn't discover this until they left and went to turn the AC back on). 2) During the sales pitch for the new system the salesman (Chris) referred to my wife as "Bougie" and "chirpy". 3) Quote was outrageously high: $23,518 w/ 5 years no interest financing or $20,226 cash discount. I called another company (will give them a great review). They helped me fix the wiring and get the AC working again. They provided a quote w/ better specs/brand and it was about half the cost. They installed it this past week for $11,650 and it runs great. I feel HVAC Comfort uses deceptive practices (cutting wires in furnace) to force the customer into paying high markups when they are most vulnerable -- during a heat wave and air quality alerts (Canadian wildfires). There was no reason to disable the system during the summer. There is no risk of carbon monoxide until the winter heating season arrives. They do not trust you to do the best thing for your family and they choose to disable your system without your permission.
