After paying State Farm for homeowners insurance for 50 years, we recently discovered water damage and mold in a bathroom. Great until you have to do a claim. Worst experience I have ever had! I hit a tire in the middle of the road at night, completely unavoidable, not my fault. The claim took forever. The day I dropped it off at the mechanic. I immediately contacted state farm to go down and check the car. They took a week to go down there and check out the car. Then the mechanic opened up the car and found more problems with it, so State Farm had to go down a second time to check it out before the mechanic could work on it. State Farm took another week to go down there and check it and give approval to do the work. So now it was totaling 2 weeks of waiting around for State Farm to just check the car and give approval to do any work. Then when the work was finished. They had to do one more claim because it came out to be more than estimated. So State Farm had to go down there again, this took another week. All in all, State farm wasted 3 weeks of time just going down to look at the car. The actual work on the car only took a few days. I had to pay for a rental this entire time, totaled over $1000. To top it all off, they had the audacity to cancel my auto insurance and said the accident was my fault. I had to do many calls to State Farm's head office and they said the underwriters, Randy Chang's office, is the one who said it was my fault and marked it wrong on the paperwork. I called Randy Chang's office and they stated they were correct and the head office was incorrect about the fault. After many calls I finally got the head office to state it in writing that it was not my fault so that I could get another insurance carrier. They sent me the letter and said it was their mistake and they would get the mark off my driving record. Then after all this Randy Chang's office calls me up and asks me if I want to resign up for insurance with them. I told them I had already switched insurance carriers. read more

Within 5 minutes of confirming a plan, he faxed over my temporary identification/information to the car dealership and I was off in my new car, fully insured by State Farm and Randy. You know you're growing up when you start to handle your own insurance and bills; car insurance was no exception. Coming off of my parent's out-of-state insurance, I had to find something that catered to my budget. By doing a little bit of research, I personally found that State Farm was the most affordable but still had the reputation (which was important). On Yelp, I immediately found 3-4 State Farm places within my area. There was a closer State Farm office near my work, but I opted for Randy Chang's location because they provided longer business hours (closing at 7pm instead of 5pm) which I liked. By doing a quote estimate online, I was able to initiate conversation with an agent. One of the agents, Kelly, responded to my quote via email. The communication was fast and friendly. From our email exchange, I was able to schedule a same day in-person appointment (I'm more comfortable handling business in-person rather than over the phone or email). During my appointment, Kelly went over my quote information, offered me options and answer all of the questions I had. She was knowledgable and honest. I had only intended on getting car insurance, but I ended up getting a bundled plan (car insurance + renter's insurance) because it was the best bang for my buck (only $2 extra p/month for getting this 2-for-1 deal instead of only getting car insurance). I was able to set a payment schedule on my own terms (e.g. which day of the month I wanted my payments on) and get everything squared away within a 1-hour visit. SIDE NOTES: - Convenient location (within the Ranch 99 plaza) but not facing Grant Road so if you're not familiar with the area, you may be confused (GPS your way & you'll be fine) - The office itself was pretty small. It was a small suite-sized office filled with 4 agents' desks and Randy's office in the back. - Mandarin is not Randy's strong suit... I witnessed him trying to explain something to an Asian mom but it came out pretty Chinglish. He managed okay with his good listening comprehension but his speaking ability isn't fluent - I received a $10 gift card for checking in on Yelp; woot! - Randy personally came up to me and shook my hand during my visit (kinda random but it was a nice touch) - If you're visiting the office, be sure to have your car's VIN and mileage info (I had asked ahead of time what I needed to provide for my appointment & these were the two main things) Overall this was a good experience and I appreciated the personal attention. read more

I'm not gonna lie -- I don't know what I am doing when it comes to insurance. I choose some coverage, pay my premium, and call it a day. The gang at Randy's office are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and pretty darned patient -- they have to be to teach a n00b like me about insurance! Kelly said "i am your state farm" and she really is MY state farm! :) Over the past month alone, I needed (1) renters insurance (including a last minute change of address when the first rental fell through after the policy was written) + (2) a non-owned auto-insurance to cover rental cars while i search for a car + (3) an auto policy to cover my new car. Kelly was just a phone call or email away. Super service with super turnaround times meant that while i was still in New York, Kelly had my renters and non-owned auto policies done up so i was covered the moment i landed at SFO and picked up my rental car and moved into my rental place. When i finally bought a car, while i was waiting to pick it up from the dealership, she wrote up my policy and emailed me PDFs of everything i needed so i could drive off fully-insured.
