Their version of a cronut definitely has the flavors but not your typical layered tall cronut. Melts in your mouth. I've had an assortment but ultimately my favorite is the crumb yeast raised donut. They have it in cake donut form too but the yeast way is bomb. It's like a coffee cake without the density. So good and the crumbly top is exquisite. Service is straightforward and solid. Yay, it's so yummy. This location doesn't have that giant donut on top of the building, it's to the side sometimes, but it wasn't there when we came here. Got the best seller butter crumble donut. So good! Fresh and flavorful and fluffy. So delicious. The store was empty, and the donuts actually didn't look the best, but I really liked the one I got! Kinda hard to find the location, it's at the corner of the plaza. Will return to try different flavors and hopefully the giant donut will be outside this time. read more

Believe the negative reviews about the Santa Ana location. Having had good donuts from a different Randy's location, I thought I would try this one. Bad decision. First off, I walked in at 2:30 on a Saturday and they had almost no donuts left and were sold out of about 80% of the menu choices. And they weren't making any more, despite the fact that they were still open for another 5 1/2 hours (posted hours until 8:00pm). Why bother staying open? Just be honest and close at 2:00 like all the other donut shops in the area if you're not going to have anything left. Next, the donuts were disgusting. I got a couple cake donuts and a couple yeast. All had clearly been fried in old oil. They were greasy, smelled and tasted heavily of rancid oil, and after taking one bite of each donut (hoping, in vain, that one of them would be good) I felt sick to my stomach. By the time I got home 15 minutes later, oil had soaked through the bag. For a restaurant that basically only sells fried food, this is a cardinal sin. Come on, Randy's - you're competing with a lot of local shops. With a name like yours, you should do better. Finally, I can't really blame the guy behind the counter for actually being beyond bored - waiting for a bunch of indecisive people to pick out donuts one by one all day has to get on your nerves; even so, people in other donut shops seem to at least fake it a whole lot better. read more

This based purely on 3 different donuts I tried, not on service as these were brought to work. The cronut I tried was crazy melt in your mouth delicious, the orange old fashioned had killer orange frosting that tasted like actual sweet and tart orange. Holy Toledo, my second visit here and dear God I love this place! I have been helped twice by the same awesome individual! She's a keeper! On my first visit I ordered crondys. I was so happy that a Randy's opened so close to my house. I ended up having two chocolate bars and two maple bacon bars. The chocolate they use is so rich and delicious. These are the best chocolate bars ever. Some places skimp on bacon when you get a bacon doughnut but not here. The maple bacon bar was loaded with bacon. I was happy with all my doughnuts. I really like Randy's Donuts ... the drive-thru, the ginormous donut on the roof of the building guiding us to sweet treats, and the selection of amazing donuts. That being said, I really wanted to like this Randy's Donuts. Really. I did. But it has none of the nostalgia and kitsch that other Randy's Donuts display: - there's no ginormous donut on the roof - just a thing on the wall outside that looks like a giant sugary butthole (yeah, I said it. It's not a donut. The emperor has no clothes!). - It doesn't have a drive-thru. That's a HUGE thing. - They don't make all their pastries on premises. Apparently, as a franchise, they don't feel the need to make one of superstars of the breakfast table (or lap, if you're driving): the ham and cheese croissant. The Randy's Donut ham & cheese croissant is a king among peasants when it comes to this type of baked good. It is light, it is fluffy, it is flakey, it is the perfect mix of ham, cheese and the best croissant out there. I look forward to going through the drive-thru and picking up one of these (and, of course, a bacon maple long john). But, alas, this Randy's location has gone in a different direction. In so many ways. I walked - WALKED! - in and ordered a couple of the ham and cheese croissant, and was handed two flattened, squished, disheartening bits of pastries. What I got was the equivalent of roadkill; a smooshed pancake of a thing that bore no resemblance to the epic cantaloupe-sized breakfast goodie I knew (and loved!). They ship these donuts in - they're cold, and feel somewhat refrigerated - in small white containers, jamming in as many as they can crush together. They're not fresh. They're not anything like any ham and cheese croissant I had at any lesser donut shop. Which makes THIS Randy's a lesser LESSER donut shop. Disgusted, I left the store (probably never to return to THIS one) and drove a good 15 miles down to Costa Mesa to get what I came to get a Randy's Donut Ham and Cheese Croissant that is as described: light, fluffy, flakey, and the size of an entire breakfast. read more

The one in Costa Mesa is a constant CF so we knew we wouldn't make it to that location! This location is so low key and quiet I can't believe it!! No insane lines wrapped around the block! I took them to my best friend's house for a get together, didn't give any hype or indication that I thought these were amazing donuts so I could get honest opinions, and 3 people said they were the best donuts they've ever had unprompted. One was a 5 year old so that doesn't count for much, but 2 were adults. My best friend ate the maple first and said it was the best maple donut she ever had then ate the butter crumb (I think that's the name of it) and said that was even better and the best donut she ever had. We have been to the original location and the one is Costa Mesa. We placed an online order a few days before, so that we could make sure they had the flavors we wanted. For some reason some of the flavors we wanted were not available at the Costa Mesa location and since this location was close to us we put the order in for pickup here. Went to pick our order up yesterday. Everything was accurate and it was easy to get. However the donuts were just not up to par. All of our raised donuts seemed under cooked. They were doughy and didn't have that airy yummy goodness that you would expect. The cake donuts we received were super dry. I'm not sure if it's just that this location is new and they haven't worked out all of cooking times with the equipment but it was so disappointing. We had some friends visiting us from out of town and they were looking forward to having Randy's donuts. We ended up tossing half our mix box 4 (which is like $25) and getting dessert from somewhere else. Hopefully this will be fixed and we can enjoy this location in the future. read more
