First time in Orange County Downtown. Pretty cool place. We actually stumbled with this place walking and thought it was super original a Coffee Bar inside an old bank building. Lots of space to sit, love the ambiance feel like you were in an old train station. Service was great, I had questions about some of the coffees and they took their time explaining it to me. For food they only had pastries but for coffee and matcha lots of interesting options. They have beans from various parts of the World, but mainly Norway!!! We got really excited about this. We ordered a Volcano Latte and a regular latte. The Volcano latte had an explosion of flavors topped with a smoked salted foam out of this world. My new favorite. I was in the area and decided to try this spot. I really liked how spacious it is inside; I'm assuming it used to be a bank back in the day. One thing to keep in mind is that parking isn't free, and depending on the time of day, it can be a little challenging to find parking if you're just stopping by for coffee. I tried two different lattes and unfortunately wasn't a fan of either. Yuli, the barista, truly did her best to make it right and was so sweet, which I wholeheartedly appreciated. Her service alone made me want to give this spot a higher rating. That said, the lattes were a 2/5 for me. They tasted too milky, and the coffee had an aftertaste I personally wasn't fond of. read more

Prices: The price of their drinks have gone up over time. Lattes cost between $6-8, their espresso tonic is $7 and yuzu tonic is $9. There are definitely more affordable options in the area for just as good quality. Service: My biggest gripe was the service, despite a sizeable line there is no priority to get patrons checked out with their drinks. I noticed 3 baristas all talking and taking it slow while orders were piling up. It took my one drink 15 minutes to make. There wasn't even much small talk at the register, so I'm confused why it took so long to get people's orders. Parking: parking is no longer free at the circle. Which personally, makes me less likely to choose play coffee in the future. They used to have a dedicated parking area for quick pick up orders for this cafe, but now it is $4 per hour. If my drink is nearly $10 I'm not paying an extra $4 just to order take out. OC has no shortage in cafes, similar menus can be found at Hola Adios in Tustin, and Kei coffee house in FV is a great option as well; all with free parking. read more

This coffee shop is in a great location and looks promising but I left with much to be desired. I love the access to the Duck's hockey merchandise but the service between the coffee shop to the merch booth is not it. A coffee shop in a sports themed building would be one of the places l'd expect cheerfulness, a warm welcome, or maybe a smile. They're strictly business up in here with very little confidence in their interactions with the customers. The building is spacious but the vibe and set up felt very corporate and uncomfortable to chill or even study in. The coffee wasn't my favorite, after all my complaints I hoped the coffee would be its saving grace but they missed that mark too. I ordered the volcano latte which sounded promising but the end result tasted like salty, creamy, milk with a hint of espresso. Don't think I see myself coming back for the coffee shop. read more

New (ish) spot on the Circle in the former bank building. I popped in for a coffee and it was tasty. I got a hot cardamom latte, and there was plenty of cardamom in the cup. It wasn't quite like a Turkish coffee, but had some of the same flavor profile. It is certainly worth a repeat visit. read more

Finally got to try out Play! There's a location near me in Fullerton, but my friends and I were in the area and they convinced me to go. First off, the interior is gorgeous and I love the history that goes with it. Yes to utilizing spaces! Anyways, I got the maple matcha and it was quite good. It was 7 dollars even with almond milk (but this seems standard now a days tbh) and with tip came out to a little over 8 dollars. Our drinks came out promptly and the vibes seemed chill. I thought my drink was fine--nothing too spectacular or worth me revisiting too much (unless I want to try out their actual coffee, which I think I will at the Fullerton location). read more

Such a beautiful building. What a clever conversion from a bank to a super trendy and spacious coffee shop. Fun seasonal flavors and unique events. If I were a student at Chapman I would follow their instagram for upcoming events and I'd be there studying all the time. They have restrooms, WIFI and lots of room to study alone or in a group. The EIFIEL is a blue seasonal drink which is my favorite there! Hardest part is finding parking which is easy if you don't mind walking from the structure. Play is this great espresso bar located in the old Wells Fargo Bank facility just off of Orange Circle on the corner of Glassell and Chapman. What you will find here is, as the name implies, some coffee orientated drinks. They offer what can be expected: various lattes, cappuccinos, cold brew, and all of that kind of stuff. And, they're all really good. The interior space of this business is very large, with high ceilings, and all of the stuff that you would expect from a location that used to be occupied by a bank. In terms of seating, they have some tables for groups of two or more, as well as some large group tables, where you can sit with friends or join others. Came here after trying a different coffee shop which didn't have any hot beverages. I did not try the coffee here, my husband said it was 3.5 outta 5 for the vanilla latte. I did try their lemon poppy donut. It did not taste like lemon at all, it was just a donut. I was a bit disappointed in that. Overall the space is massive, though not a whole lot of seating, did see some outlets.. But there is a big open space near where the old teller area is that probably needs more tables or something to accommodate more people. I've been curious about this place - a coffee shop converted from an old bank. We ventured in on Valentine's Day. The place was packed. And since they didn't have music playing, people's voices bounced off the concrete walls and echoed loudly. I didn't mind it. It was part of the vibe, I guess. Service was friendly. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk and one pump of brown sugar. It was so refreshing and smooth. I loved it! We did have to wait a little for our drinks because they were busy. The orange circle has plenty of coffee options. I opted for this place due to having many people tell me it's great. I've known this location as the Wells Fargo/Starbucks in the past. The building is beautiful but the lack of filled space now is kind of odd. It was my first visit to Play coffee and the menu gives you a name of the drink and nothing further. The staff didn't greet us, say hello or anything. I asked the male working if I could ask some questions about the drinks and I received multiple answers of "it's espresso with brown sugar". I didn't really know what to do with that? I went with a vanilla latte so I at least knew what it was. I'd give the coffee a 3/5. I've had better. When I'm back in the circle, I'll give it one more go. read more

This used to be a bank so it's a pretty cool coffee shop to hangout in. We ordered the maple matcha latte both hot and iced and a cardamon latte. The maple matcha latte was not sweet at all and I could not taste any maple. Their vegan donuts was just okay and the service we received was not friendly, just a bored looking employee staring at us and waiting for us to speak as opposed to starting conversation or recommending items. I asked for a chocolate donut and he gave me a sugar sprinkled one instead but I didn't see until I sat down and by then the line was so long and I'd already pulled out the donut. A bit frustrating, but I wasn't going to go up and complain and ask for a switch because I didn't want to hassle them or cut off the huge line. Service and food is just okay, but I really like the atmosphere so I would say the interior itself is worth stopping by to enjoy. read more

This place is inarguably dedicated to the craft of coffee, and they offer really solid classic espresso drinks and a tight menu of what I call "fufu drinks" - sweetened lattes. I ordered the volcano latte with almond milk, easy sweet, but in an 8oz cup for a better espresso-to-milk ratio. I was intrigued by the name and the barista explained that it was sweeten with brown sugar and topped with smoked sea salt. It was an interesting combination, not something I'd get all the time but I don't regret trying it. The big downside to this place is the atmosphere. It's dark and cold - they leave the door open even on a rainy day. I'd suggest this for a coffee or espresso drink to go, but it's a bit bleak to sit inside. read more

I stumbled upon this place because a nearby coffee shop was too packed. I'm glad I did, but there were a few things I didn't enjoy as much. The drinks were okay, not too sweet/perfect amount of sweetness, but it was very milk forward, and I felt that my sweet maple latte could have used another shot or two of espresso. The ambiance is beautiful, and the decor is minimalistic and not distracting. The music wasn't too loud either which was nice. However, the place is very open with all of its windows open, so it was freezing by 4 pm! (I think this would be amazing during the summer). The wifi is great and the seating is plentiful, especially if you get one of their bigger tables (they do not have outlets). The baristas are kind, so no complaints there. I would come check this place out because it's located in what used to be a bank. Restrooms are definitely pretty run down, but that's just a personal grievance. read more

You can get coffee at roughly 8 other coffee spots in the Orange Circle...but why would you? Play is simply, the best coffee in Orange. Everything I have had here is balanced - not overly sweet, or overly bitter. Each drink recipe feels like something you can only get here. The specialty drinks really don't taste like other places. Unique blends with everything from spices, to matcha to orange peels for a bit of flavor. The only negative are the vegan donuts. Pretty boring tasting so I usually skip those. But this spot absolutely is tops when it comes to coffee. Ambiance is rad - a historic building with tall, gorgeous ceilings and an open floor. Very cool. Staff is always nice and the drinks come out FAST. If I'm meeting someone for coffee in Orange or want something just for me, Play is always my first choice. read more

I only wish the could make it with anything other than whole milk, but unfortunately they use some sort of strawberry whole milk that is not replaceable in the Matcha Latte. The Chai was delicious as well! This is more of a workspace than a coffee shop, but it's cool nonetheless. WiFi, plugs, and seating are all available in this space. Cool coffee shop in the heart of Orange Circle! Located inside an old Wells Fargo bank, the setting is definitely a unique one for a coffee shop. I love how spacious it is with the high ceiling and with plenty of seating. We came on a weekend morning and it was bustling with young families, dog owners, people post-workout, and it was nice to see such a diverse crowd! I got a decaf latte which was okay. My husband got an espresso which he enjoyed. It was our first time in the area and it was nice to walk around and pass other coffee and brunch shops, vintage stores, etc. Perfect place for a stroll with family or for date night!
