Got the vermicelli plate togo and it didn't take too long to get once I had ordered. The pork was perfectly grilled and the shrimp were fresh. I've heard people say this place was good and it did not disappoint.

Free parking in a plaza. Good bun bo hue where they are generous with their protein portions, and not too spicy nor too sweet.

WHEN: Mon @6pm After a weekend of rich-eating food, I wanted something light and soupy. So we came here for the first time to give it a try. Definitely a mom and pops kind of feel where it's a pretty small restaurant. Looks like it used to be a deli shop. It's located where it's a shared parking lot so there's plenty of free parking. Here's what I tried: #52 HU TIEU CHAY - $15.95 Veggie Soup w/RIce Noodles, Tofu and Mixed Vegetables. The mixed vegetables was Broccoli, Bok Choy, and Carrots. It's honestly weird to have noodle soup with broccoli. But hey I wanted vegetables and I got it. What I should have done was just request this be served in Chicken Broth for some protein since I"m not a vegetarian. It was good for a vegan dish. #9 PHO TAI & NAM - $15.95 Rare Steak + Well Done Flank. My partner ordered this and I thought was pretty good. I'd come back and try their other items.

Walked in and made a to go order for 8 people. They are so kind and offered us to sit even though we were take out. We ordered at the register and were given water and a table while we waited. It was very fast service as they made the food fresh. The place had many customers and their service was excellent. The food and drinks we ordered were fresh, delicious and made correctly. We ordered 4 grilled pork Bahn mi sandwiches that had fresh bread and plenty of food inside and good flavor. Then 2 orders of beef pho that was fresh with the meat and all things put on the side since it was to go. The veggies and toppings were plentiful and fresh as well (including packs of plum sauce and sirracha). We also ordered fired egg rolls (looked delish but was too full to try) as well as 2 Vietnamese teas and a Vietnamese coffee. All were so flavorful and so good! Highly recommend.

I have been at Rang Dong restaurant a few times and they all have been very solid experiences. They serve the typical dishes you'd find at a pho restaurant - variety of pho, vermicelli dishes, rice plates and banh mis. I've only ordered their pho and it has been consistently great. It is very comforting and soothing especially during rainy and cold seasons. Service was also pretty great - friendly staff, walk-in friendly, and quick service. If you're looking for a solid pho/Vietnamese restaurant in Alameda, I highly recommend this place!

I just had a delightful experience stopping in for takeout totally on a whim. Was genuinely impressed with the Pho. Everyone knows the it's of key importance to having a good soup broth. This was where Rang Dong stood out! Incredible deep flavors that are a sign of a superior recipe and long hours of simmering. I got a combination beef with some additional beef ball. I also got their grilled chicken sandwich. The baguette is a serious width and quality. Delicious! What a treat. I'll definitely be back!

Would totally come again! It's starting to get chilly so I really wanted some soup one Monday night, and this place really came through! They seem to specialize in bun rieu and bun bo hue which was so exciting to see bc I don't see many places promote them as much as they do with pho. Long story short, this place is delicious and home-y! Service was also quick and attentive, and the ambiance really felt like a home-y noodle shop. Although the restaurant was a little small, there was plenty of seating indoors. On a Monday night it was packed! THE FOOD: --Bun Bo Hue: 9/10 This was delicious! It was actually spicy which I loved. This particular broth had a stronger shrimp paste taste which was the only reason why I docked off a point. They gave plenty of meat as well. Noodles were also on point. --Bun Rieu: 8/10 This was also delicious! The tomato broth was warming, but again this also had a little bit too strong of a shrimp paste taste (which is a personal preference). --Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls: 10/10 Can't go wrong with this. Peanut sauce was amazing, ingredients were fresh. Overall I would come back again!

It was such a bad bun rieu..only tasted fish sauce.

I had it again in alameda location and it was pretty good. I think this review was for Oakland location. I had better bun rieu before but this one is decent and satisfies your craving...

Solid spot for Vietnamese in Alameda. It doesn't have frills, the interior feels more homey than trendy, but it's family owned and that's a plus for me. The food was solid, would come back to try other things on the menu.

Being Vietnamese, I've had excellent food in Vietnam and San Jose. I was planning on buying a home in Alameda, so I wanted to try all the Vietnamese restaurants there. I saw that many people liked Rang Dong on Reddit, so I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. Their Vietnamese food here is very underwhelming. It is more Americanized Vietnamese food. The broth is lackluster. They barely have any toppings in the soup. If you want good Bun Rieu, go to Da Nang Quan or Pho King in Oakland. Many people like this place because of their customer service. The people who work here are very lovely and sweet.

First time here after hearing about this place several times. Overall the banh mi sandwiches were decent: the bread was nice, fluffy and hot Minimal pickled veggies Minimal pate and mayo Good amount of meat Id come here again to try their pho or rice plates before I give my official YAY or NAY on how I feel about this place. I will say that the thai tea was excellent though.

    20. BUN BO HUE (CAY)

Bun Bo hue is one of my 2 go to orders when I'm craving Vietnamese noodles. The noodles here carry the soup flavor well, and I like the variety of meats included. The soup had nice rich flavor and the spicy level was just right for someone with mild-medium tolerance. The portion size was perfect for me, but for someone with a larger appetite may be on the smaller side. Service was quick, and the interior is nice and simple.

Overview: my new favorite place for banh mi that's close to home, large portions and great flavor…read more ---- We were taking a walk around Webster and found this place next to an ice cream place that I like. Lemongrass Pork $12 - we added a fried egg $2 extra so the sandwich ended up to be $14 - it has all the typical accompaniments like mayo, daikon, carrots, cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro - this sandwich also came with pate (liver spread) which is one of my favorite additions - the portions are filling - the egg was a good add on but I probably wouldn't do it again, it only can with one fried egg in the middle which was delicious but it's expensive and there was only one so when we got to the ends of the sandwich there was no more egg ---- Notes: - street parking (metered) and residential parking is close by but you might have to walk a few blocks on busy days - we walked from the Saturday Farmers' Market but I love how walkable Alameda is, the walk was quite nice - inside and outside seating available, the inside is very small with only 2 tables, the ambiance isn't super appealing to dine-in - we ordered it to-go but there you can definitely dine-in to eat, most people also ordered to-go and for pick-up - the food took a little bit of time to come out bc they were so popular! Lots of to-go and online orders being picked up when we were waiting! ---- Overall: authentic banh mi without having to leave our little island, filling portion, great flavor

The bread was perfectly crunchy without being hard or sharp, which can sometimes cut your mouth. The chicken was juicy, tender, and packed with rich lemongrass flavor. Very friendly service, delicious/authentic food, reasonable prices…read more I like the lamps inside too - it's a vibe! I came with two friends on Saturday night for dinner around 7. They were able to accommodate us, walk-in, but it was poppin'! Everyone loved their food. Standouts were papaya salad, egg rolls, nam khao, drunken noodles. Wish I could eat more lol to try more but portions were great too. Gotta come back and try more of the menu! I have nothing bad to say besides there's only one bathroom stall per gender. Highly recommend if you're in the area craving Lao/Thai food.

Wow, i heard the rumors but finally got to try this place out!! If you eat around the Bay Area,…read moreeverybody knows of Bhan Mae Vane! Only took me so long to finally try it out! The inside is busy busy busy! Lots of people like to come by for lunch and it can get pretty loud inside. It's not really big inside, but luckily we were able to grab a table when we came by. Not sure how busy they get at night time, but I came during a Sunday lunch time and was able to be seated and there were plenty of seats. Parking isn't the easiest to find though, it's only street parking from what I could see and not too much of it. I had the chance to try out the Tom Yum, Green Curry, Laab Seen, Mok Pla, Pad Kee Mao, and Lao Sausages. I felt a bit split about the food, i think some dishes were VERY good but a few could have been a bit better flavor wise for the price point. -The Tom yum soup was good but a little on the saltier side, the bowl was sizable emougj for about 5 people with seconds for all. -Green Curry was pretty good! Hot and yummy, I really likes the veggie variety inside -Laab Seen was pretttyy good, i definitely don't think many places have the different beef cuts in the same laab -Mok Pla was very good! I wish there was more vegetable variety, the amount of veggies you get kind of overwhelm the amount of fish you get. It was very good but it can be hard to ratio the meat to veggies -Pad Kee Mao(Drunken Noodles) yummyyyy!! I honestly think this was probably my favorite kf the dishes i got. I think the serving size was smaller than I had hoped for but it tasted really good nonetheless. -Lao Sausages were really packed on the plate!! You get a lot for what you pay for, most places only give you a few pieces and charge you an entree price. I wish there was more tomato sauce (jaew) but the flavor of the sausages were decent, i think they could have been more savory Overall, the food was all great! Alameda has a lot of great food options but even with all those options, Bhan Mae Vane dominates the food list! Even outside of Alameda, it is one of the more popular Thai/Lao places for a reason. The service is good, most of the food came out relatively fast like 10-15 minutes. The Mok Pla took the longest, probably around 30 minutes but not sure if that is standard. Anyways, for the most part I really enjoyed the experience here. I think anyone who is a hardcore Thai/Laotian food fan would be satisfied coming here :)

A plus is a VIP room we went there to take a look and it was soundproof with disco and 2 TV's. Some disco equipment was getting disassembled in the far room. There is a spot for taking pics and playing darts which is cool but again everything feels so out of place. Managers were smoking outside with random friends when we came in. Super unprofessional.
