===TL;DR=== - Bun rieu - Bun bo hue ===TMI=== [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is always bustling inside. Looks like they're filled with many locals and regulars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once you get seated, they're ready to take your order haha. Can't go wrong with any of these 2 noodle soups. Both hearty and soothes your soul. They don't skimp out on toppings and what I love most is that if you order their Vietnamese coffee, it still drips in front of you vs. places that had them premade. They're a good Sunday family spot or honestly, 7 days a week spot (not sure if they're open 7 days a week tho) for quick and cozy fix.

Free parking in a plaza. Good bun bo hue where they are generous with their protein portions, and not too spicy nor too sweet.

WHEN: Mon @6pm After a weekend of rich-eating food, I wanted something light and soupy. So we came here for the first time to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely a mom and pops kind of feel where it's a pretty small restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looks like it used to be a deli shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's located where it's a shared parking lot so there's plenty of free parking. Here's what I tried: #52 HU TIEU CHAY - $15.95 Veggie Soup w/RIce Noodles, Tofu and Mixed Vegetables. The mixed vegetables was Broccoli, Bok Choy, and Carrots. It's honestly weird to have noodle soup with broccoli. But hey I wanted vegetables and I got it. What I should have done was just request this be served in Chicken Broth for some protein since I"m not a vegetarian. It was good for a vegan dish. #9 PHO TAI & NAM - $15.95 Rare Steak + Well Done Flank. My partner ordered this and I thought was pretty good. I'd come back and try their other items.

Walked in and made a to go order for 8 people. They are so kind and offered us to sit even though we were take out. We ordered at the register and were given water and a table while we waited. It was very fast service as they made the food fresh. The place had many customers and their service was excellent. The food and drinks we ordered were fresh, delicious and made correctly. We ordered 4 grilled pork Bahn mi sandwiches that had fresh bread and plenty of food inside and good flavor. Then 2 orders of beef pho that was fresh with the meat and all things put on the side since it was to go. The veggies and toppings were plentiful and fresh as well (including packs of plum sauce and sirracha). We also ordered fired egg rolls (looked delish but was too full to try) as well as 2 Vietnamese teas and a Vietnamese coffee. All were so flavorful and so good! Highly recommend.

I have been at Rang Dong restaurant a few times and they all have been very solid experiences. They serve the typical dishes you'd find at a pho restaurant - variety of pho, vermicelli dishes, rice plates and banh mis. I've only ordered their pho and it has been consistently great. It is very comforting and soothing especially during rainy and cold seasons. Service was also pretty great - friendly staff, walk-in friendly, and quick service. If you're looking for a solid pho/Vietnamese restaurant in Alameda, I highly recommend this place!

I just had a delightful experience stopping in for takeout totally on a whim. Was genuinely impressed with the Pho. Everyone knows the it's of key importance to having a good soup broth. This was where Rang Dong stood out! Incredible deep flavors that are a sign of a superior recipe and long hours of simmering. I got a combination beef with some additional beef ball. I also got their grilled chicken sandwich. The baguette is a serious width and quality. Delicious! What a treat. I'll definitely be back!

Would totally come again! It's starting to get chilly so I really wanted some soup one Monday night, and this place really came through! They seem to specialize in bun rieu and bun bo hue which was so exciting to see bc I don't see many places promote them as much as they do with pho. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Long story short, this place is delicious and home-y![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was also quick and attentive, and the ambiance really felt like a home-y noodle shop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although the restaurant was a little small, there was plenty of seating indoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]On a Monday night it was packed![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] THE FOOD: --Bun Bo Hue: 9/10 This was delicious! It was actually spicy which I loved. This particular broth had a stronger shrimp paste taste which was the only reason why I docked off a point. They gave plenty of meat as well. Noodles were also on point. --Bun Rieu: 8/10 This was also delicious! The tomato broth was warming, but again this also had a little bit too strong of a shrimp paste taste (which is a personal preference). --Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls: 10/10 Can't go wrong with this. Peanut sauce was amazing, ingredients were fresh. Overall I would come back again!

It was such a bad bun rieu..only tasted fish sauce.

I had it again in alameda location and it was pretty good. I think this review was for Oakland location. I had better bun rieu before but this one is decent and satisfies your craving...

Solid spot for Vietnamese in Alameda. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It doesn't have frills, the interior feels more homey than trendy, but it's family owned and that's a plus for me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was solid, would come back to try other things on the menu.

Being Vietnamese, I've had excellent food in Vietnam and San Jose. I was planning on buying a home in Alameda, so I wanted to try all the Vietnamese restaurants there. I saw that many people liked Rang Dong on Reddit, so I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. Their Vietnamese food here is very underwhelming. It is more Americanized Vietnamese food. The broth is lackluster. They barely have any toppings in the soup. If you want good Bun Rieu, go to Da Nang Quan or Pho King in Oakland. Many people like this place because of their customer service. The people who work here are very lovely and sweet.

First time here after hearing about this place several times. Overall the banh mi sandwiches were decent: the bread was nice, fluffy and hot Minimal pickled veggies Minimal pate and mayo Good amount of meat Id come here again to try their pho or rice plates before I give my official YAY or NAY on how I feel about this place. I will say that the thai tea was excellent though.

    Maggie W.

Bun Bo hue is one of my 2 go to orders when I'm craving Vietnamese noodles. The noodles here carry the soup flavor well, and I like the variety of meats included. The soup had nice rich flavor and the spicy level was just right for someone with mild-medium tolerance. The portion size was perfect for me, but for someone with a larger appetite may be on the smaller side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was quick, and the interior is nice and simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Do you like the funk?…read more Our server explained to us the Lao version is more funky and fermented, while the Thai version is more mellow. We went with the Lao version. The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

The appetizers came out and were decent enough, but that's where the positive experience ended for me. I sat there watching my wife eat her pork chop rice plate while I had nothing in front of me. No pho. I waited easily 20 to 30 minutes -- and if anything, that's a conservative estimate. Anyone who's ever been to a Vietnamese restaurant knows that pho is almost always one of the first things to hit the table. It's broth that's kept hot and ready. There's no reason it should lag behind a rice plate or take half an hour to arrive. What made it worse was the total lack of communication from our server. Not once did she come by to acknowledge the delay, offer an explanation, or even check in to let me know my food was on its way. I shouldn't have to flag someone down to ask where my meal is. A simple "I'm so sorry, your pho is coming right out" goes a long way -- that's just basic hospitality. Our server was a young woman who, frankly, seemed either undertrained or indifferent to the experience of her tables. I don't say that to be harsh -- I say it because it's fixable. Someone in management needs to invest in proper hospitality training, because attentiveness and communication are non-negotiable in the restaurant industry. I've dined at hundreds of restaurants over the years, from casual spots to fine dining, and the standard of keeping your guests informed is universal. I eventually left without ever receiving my pho. My wife finished her meal, we paid, and we walked out -- with me having eaten nothing but appetizers. That's simply unacceptable. I hope the management reads this and takes it seriously. The food concept is solid, but the service needs serious attention before I'd ever consider returning.
