The service was amazing and they were super accommodating for our large group (13 people). They had a variety of food to accommodate different dietary restrictions (gluten free, vegan, vegetarian). We had a giant spread of food, I was a huge fan of their samosas (packed with filling) and their chicken biryani. The decor was nice and it was cozy, I think it's worth stopping by for a bite to eat if you're in the area, everyone really enjoyed it It was a team dinner so couldn't take as many photos

Used to visit here often about 10 years ago. Went back with a buddy for lunch after a long hike. They are pretty efficient greeting us. This place hasn't changed much. Still nicely kept with a cozy and clean vibe. We shared their tea salad. I got their own noodle dish. Tea salad is solid. Their noodle dish is well seasoned and texture was really nice. It is still the good place that I remembered. Would like to revisit when I crave for some nice Burmese food

A branch of the other Burmese restaurant chain that has VERY large portions and good flavors! Recommend the tea lead salad and the Burmese pad thai, but we also tried the minted jalapeno chicken that was a good blend of flavors I never thought matched! We had mild spice for all of them and it wasn't too spicy at all, so if you can handle spice, try medium! The staff are very friendly and attentive, serving cucumber water and the interior is well-decorated and gives an air of sophistication while still being a more casual restaurant.

I ordered online for take out. Paid over 20 bucks for a full salad but received a side salad portion instead. This is my second time ordering and never again. Portions are always small for the price. No wonder I never see the restaurant full during lunch.

    Neat, clean and cozy ambiance.

Went for a Monday night dinner while visiting the city. Was not disappointed at all. The place was not busy for dinner (great for us !). The tables were all well arranged and the entire restaurant was very well kept with clean, cozy and somewhat colonial dining setup. The food was very flavorful and well balanced (not too oily or unnecessarily smothered with chili just to make it spicy). We ordered the tea salad (very unique, our first time experience), beef curry (Thai basil) - very tasty!, garlic noodles, samosa and semolina cake with mango ice cream (delicious!). Server can be a little more prescriptive though

Took out the Tea Leaf Salad and Monk Hingar (catfish chowder noodle soup). Soup was tasty but noodle provided was such a tiny portion that I cooked ramen to add to it. Tea leaf salad was good with a little tiny spicy kick to it.

Rangoon Ruby in San Carlos is one of those spots where you walk in and immediately know you're in for something different with a warm, stylish decor with a hint of elegance, and the aroma of garlic, spices, and coconut milk floating through the air. It's upscale but not uptight, perfect for date nights, group dinners, or anyone craving authentic Burmese food done right. Must-Try Dishes: * Tea Leaf Salad (Lahpet Thoke) This is the signature dish and it does not disappoint. Fermented tea leaves, crunchy nuts, seeds, tomatoes, garlic, and lime all come together in a tangy, umami-packed bite. Complex and addicting. * Samusa Soup A flavorful lentil-based soup with pieces of samusa (Burmese samosas) swimming inside. Spiced but not too spicy , cozy and comforting. * Pumpkin Pork Stew Tender pork belly in a mild pumpkin curry , rich, slightly sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Definitely a sleeper hit on the menu. * Burmese Style Garlic Noodles Stir-fried noodles with crispy garlic, scallions, and your choice of protein. Simple, but seriously flavorful. A good "gateway dish" if you're new to Burmese cuisine. * Coconut Rice Order it as a side with anything , fluffy, fragrant, and the perfect match for the saucier curries. * Shan Noodles One of the most beloved street foods of Myanmar rice noodles with chicken or pork in a slightly tangy tomato-based sauce. Light but deeply satisfying. Drinks & Atmosphere: They've got a full bar with solid craft cocktails and Burmese beer. The vibe is classy but welcoming ,think white tablecloths with a laid-back neighborhood feel. Service is attentive, helpful, and happy to guide you if you're new to Burmese food. Price Point: It's on the higher side for casual dining , you're looking at ~$18-$28 for entrées. But the portions are fair, the quality is high, and the experience feels special. It's not cheap takeout, but it's worth it. Final Verdict: Rangoon Ruby delivers , bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and dishes that strike a perfect balance between comforting and adventurous. If you've never tried Burmese cuisine, this place makes a fantastic first impression. Just be ready to spend a little , and leave very full.

1 year later and 3rd time -- still meh. Tea salad was okay and pad Thai under spiced and overpriced. Place was fairly empty and service was poor. No need to revisit for the 4th time.

So what made the experience for me is the waiter. He was super friendly and very great at giving us advice on which dish is great to choose. Although i know what is good i usually ask to see if the staff is knowledgable of the menu. We ordered the food and of course it was delicious! We sat outside on a nice warm day and it was a great to sit there and chat. Great place for a date and to catch up with friends.

Not good at all. Ordered Hot and didn't taste one spice. Paid for delivery too and left a tip. Don't do it. Sure this we be hidden.

Horrible service, mediocre food. Our waiter/host left us to sit for 10 minutes without menus. The food is overpriced for the quality.

Burma Spice hosted our daughter's high school graduation luncheon on May 23rd and we couldn't have been happier! We had about 30 guests in a separate area in the back of the restaurant. Kham and Raymond were so nice and helpful in planning the menu for our gathering. Everything was served family style. We ordered - Tea Leaf Salad- the perfect ratio of fermented tea leaves and ingrediants. - Samosas- light, crispy, and so flavorful - Nan Gyi Thoke- the noodles were perfectly cooked, not mushy, and the curry was creamy and delightful. - Basil Lemongrass Chicken- fresh basil, and lemongrass really made this dish a popular topic. - Pumpkin Veggie- Nice ratio of pumpkin and other veggies, very hearty. - Kebat Lamb- savory, packed full of rich spices, the onions add so much texture and flavor as well. - Jasmine Rice Plus plenty of yummy tropical cocktails for the adults. They set up a little table for the cake, and some graduation items that we brought. They really went out of their way to make our celebration comfortable. Everything was in generous portions, fresh and expertly prepared. My guests raved about the food and service. Some of my guests had never tried Burmese food before and now in their meal rotation. We didn't realize that we had stretched into their rest period between lunch and dinner because they were so gracious about not rushing us. I highly recommend Burma Spice in Redwood City for any meal or occasion. The restaurant is such a gem in our neighborhood and the service is friendly.

We came for lunch on a weekday with a reservation - I'd highly recommend making this ahead of time, otherwise, only bar seating was available. Roti platah (5/5) - I love love love roti, and this was fluffy, buttery, and delicious. Something we didn't know, however, was the dip (we got truffle) was $7 extra! Coconut chicken curry (4/5) - this was good, but definitely on the heavy side when it comes to curries. Mango chicken (5/5) - a must try, and the star of the show for me. This dish was on the sweeter side, but tasted SO good and tropical when paired with the coconut rice (a MUST try). I'd be back for the mango chicken and the coconut rice for sure! Entree potions are big so I'd recommend sharing. They also have a great lunch menu ($29) option as well!

Consistently Great Food and Ambiance in Menlo Park…read more I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner--we have been here several times now for both small family dinners and larger group gatherings, and it is a consistent favorite of ours. While the portion sizes are on the smaller side for the price point, the overall dining experience makes it well worth it on occasion. The restaurant has a beautiful, upscale yet bright and reasonably kid-friendly indoor ambiance. Booking online is seamless, and parking is incredibly easy right underground in the Springline lot. The cocktails are good, and you absolutely cannot go wrong with the tea leaf salad, the roti pratha with coconut chicken curry, and the garlic chili prawns. The garlic noodles and fried rice can be a bit hit-or-miss; we have had visits where they are packed with flavor, have a perfect texture, and are a massive hit with the kids, but other times they have turned up a bit bland or with mushy noodles. The manager and staff are friendly and welcoming, and the manager has gone out of their way to accommodate our walk-in group on at least two occasions. My biggest tip is to avoid booking the outdoor seating. It consists of only one or two tables situated right on El Camino Real, making it way too noisy to enjoy your meal. Stick to the gorgeous indoor dining room or bar seating for a solid meal.

There are so many amazing dishes but I would really recommend coming with a group and experiencing this spot family style. That's the way to do it. Parking can be tough so it's not a bad idea to take alternative transit options. Also this spot can be super packed at popular dinner and lunch hours like on the weekend. For the salads I highly recommend the tea leaf salad especially if you've never had it before. It's quite unique. The mango salad is quite good too with the unripen mangos so it isn't super sweet. It has a zesty dressing. The rainbow salad is good but it's more like a cold noodle dish and less greens so depends on what you are looking for. The samusa soup is good! The coconut chicken soup and noodle dishes used to be my favorite thing on the menu. But now it's a little to heavy, creamy, and rich for me. I would recommend sharing this one because it's so tasty. I love their coconut rice great with any of their curries or to complement the protein dishes. The garlic noodles don't wow me but they're good and great to go with a meal. The sesame chicken is good and tangy but it is breaded chicken. So depends on if you are up for that. The chili lamb is super good and so is the beef curry. They have a rice dish with chicken and shrimp that is good too. If you are okay with sweet things the mango chicken is good. And then they have some spicy dishes that are good if you like the spice. I don't love their green beans which is sad because I usually like this style of green beans which. They're a little spicy for my taste but maybe that's exactly what you are looking for. Burma superstar is honestly a comfort place for me at this point.

We came for dinner around 6pm and luckily beat the rush; we were seated within 10 minutes of putting our name down. Most of our order were things we'd enjoyed a lot in the past: tea leaf salad (vegetarian, no fish sauce or shrimp), platha and dip, and samusa soup. They no longer serve the okra egg curry, which honestly was one of the main draws for me since making it at home is a pain (deep frying eggs takes forever!). It was really disappointing to find out it was no longer on the menu. - Tea leaf salad: overall ingredients were fresh, but it was definitely missing an umami about it this time. 7/10 - Platha and dip: coconut curry dip still had good depth, but platha was a lot thicker and doughier than it used to be (I remember thin and flaky). Also seemed a LOT smaller from what I remember. 7/10 - Samusa soup: flavor is as I remember and still had all the fixings I enjoy (falafel, samusa, and wonton chunks) but it came out warm instead of hot. 6/10 - Coconut rice on the side: rice was mushy this time instead of QQ with all the individual grains We got the tofu tower in place of the okra egg curry and the sauce was a little too salty, but the the tofu was well done. Nice crispy outside, silky and eggy inside. 7/10 Overall, decent meal but no longer a place I'd rave about like I used to when I first came 8 years ago. The portions have increasingly shrunk over the years while the prices have gone up. The current level of quality is not enough to justify such an expensive meal where each dish averages $20+.

Parking for this location was very difficult, especially when you visit on a busy day. The atmosphere is moody and dark which is perfect for a date night. I ordered - Burma Chicken Mint - Nan Pia Dok - Tea leaf salad We started off with the tea salad since it was highly suggested by our waiter. I love the amount of toppings they add onto the salad and having it served table side is even better. For the salad, it was more savory and the flavor was light which helped bring out the salad more; which is a positive. The Nan Pia Dok noodles were also served table side and honestly, this was good but not quite extraordinary. Eventually halfway, the noodles lost its flavor and just felt like stir fried noodles with toppings. This was also more of a savory dish. The Burma Chicken Mint dish was also somewhat delicious but fell short towards the end as it tasted exactly what it looks like. It's not bad but does get boring fast. If you love spicy food then I highly recommend getting this; otherwise it's not really for me. The service is honestly top notch, can't really complain when the person serving you the salad is extremely friendly which breaks the awkward silence every now and then. Overall, I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes as I'm venturing into newer territory, and honestly that's okay. The service and food was decent enough for me to give it another chance. The salad was honestly the best thing to get here.

First time here and was very impressed with all the dishes…read more We had the lettuce wraps and pork belly as appetizers. The filling on the lettuce wraps was a little on the wet side (meaning it stuck together versus being crumbly/separated), that's neither good or bad, and the taste was good. The pork belly was crisp and I think purposely cooked crispy, and the sweet and sour type sauce added some moisture- went together well. For the entrees, we had tea leaf salad - really good with a lot of textures via the seeds to go along with the greens and other vegetables. Both noodles (House Noodles with Shrimp and Curry Noodles with Chicken) were also great, with the House Noodles being almost Pad Thai like in seasoning and the curry one being rich and lots of umami. Generous amounts of chicken, cooked well so it was easy to shred apart. Finally, the honey walnut shrimp was done really well. Plenty of walnuts, not overly sweet or goopy - one of the best versions I've had. Service was great, attentive, polite/friendly, and they filled our water glasses frequently. Decor was pretty typical - but on the nicer/classier end of the level of this type of restaurant. So nothing really to criticize! We'd happily come back here again.

The restaurant was busy, but not completely full. Service was friendly. We shared 2 appetizers (small bites), 2 tea leaf salads, 2 noodles and a shrimp dish: . Lettuce Wrap (4/5): delicious; I liked the water chestnut and shiitake mushrooms among other veggies; the romaine lettuce was fresh; filling was more moist than I expected (in a good way) . Crispy Pork Belly (3/5): kind of dry; it came with a sweet chili sauce, fortunately . Tea Leaf Salads (4/5): they came pre-mixed; they were crunchy and well seasoned . Nan Gyi Thoke (5/5): loved the creamy coconut chicken curry sauce; very flavorful . Burma House Noodles with Shrimp (3/5): similar to Pad Thai, but a bit sweeter . Honey-glazed Walnut Shrimp (5/5): well executed dish, similar to what you would get at a good Chinese restaurant Great place to catch up with friends while sharing tasty food. Didn't feel pressured to leave, even though we chatted for a while after we're done eating.

Came to Burma Bay Cafe for dinner with friends and had a great meal!…read more Located off Warm Spring Blvd, Burma Bay Cafe took over the old Ho Chow building. The inside has tons of seating available and bright natural lighting. We came on a weeknight during their happy hour (!!), which is 20% off appetizers every week night between 3-6pm. Our party of three ordered mainly apps, and only deviated off that section to try their tea leaf salad :P Fried tofu - crisp and light Coconut chicken with palatha - sweeter curry, loved the flakiness and thicc-ness of the paratha Lamb curry with palatha - hearty curry sauce Salt and pepper chicken - dino nugget-esque with a nice crunch and perfect seasoning and didn't actually need the dipping sauce it comes with. Note: the dipping sauce does contain fish Chicken lettuce cups - fine taste, no notes Veg samosas - fine also, basic Tea leaf salad - ordered for the health and textural crunch. So delicious Service was good. Our waitress was very informative in each dish and also quite attentive with refiling waters. Overall, great meal and would love to return to try their mains.
