If you can get past the sort of starkness and emptiness in the place you will definitely enjoy the services. So maybe it could use a little bit of a facelift and maybe a little more cleaning but generally it seems to have seen better days. But if the services are as good as the threading then I can really look forward to making this a regular spot especially because of the prices. Threading which is a fantastic way to do your eyebrows is six dollars you cannot beat that and she was so nice and so sweet. They have this fabulous cream rose-based that is only $25 and when you buy that I was given a beautiful salt scrub as a gift so really I really enjoyed it thoroughly that little attention to detail. Terrible, terrible, terrible! Went in for eyebrow and lip threading. Asked for eyebrow and lip threading. Got eyebrow threading, then got a big blob of hot wax smeared on the side of my upper lip. "Ooops sorry" was the answer. I yelped and asked her to wipe it off immediately but instead she proceeded to press the waxing strip into it and rip off the strip! Ouch!!! I can't do waxing, it burns my sensitive skin, makes me break out and leaves a red patch for days. Thanks for that. Then they made me pay for it anyway and got miffed when I refused to give her a tip! Plus, the eyebrows are not the same shape and one now has a little patch missing out of it because she did such a lousy job. I will NEVER go back. In short-stay away... I purchased 2 discounted spa deals, one for me one for a friend. The package was for a massage, eyebrow treading and a facial normally $130, the sale was $65. We chose the Westbury Location as we live in Hicksville. After repeated calls only getting an answering machine I finally spoke to a person who informed me that they only have massage (at least for men) at the New Hyde Park (NHP) location. It was late December 2010-The "spa" was a little chilly, kind of cold for a massage. When i arrived I was told that they had a walk in for some laser treatment and the massage person was also their laser person, so someone else would do my facial and after that she would be available for the massage. I passed on the eyebrow threading. Almost nothing was said about the facial, what products were being used, what to expect. it was actually my first professional facial and I found it lacking. Then came the massage. The room was chilly, the masseuse did not inquire if I had an sore spots, any areas to focus on or any health issues- a common inquiry with LMT's. I was actually there hoping to get some relief from back strain. It was very strange and being familiar with massage for over 30 years and a practitioner myself, the technique was not only lacking but a good deal uncomfortable. Upon finishing the masseuse told me she had done things that would bring great relief of stress the next day. I hoped that she was right. When I was finished and dressed I was very disappointed with both services. I was basing my tip considerations on the price of the value not what I paid. However I was not happy with the services. Based on my level of dissatisfaction I decided my tip would be less than 10% of the "value". At the front desk I was confronted by the receptionist about "tipping the girls". When I asked for change to break a bill I was told by the receptionist, that I should be tipping each girl $20. That would be $40 on a $130 package... (That's over 30%-that would be for very wonderful service, not so so). I was "informed' that the girls work hard and that I only paid half of the normal cost and that they deserve to be compensated fairly, after all I did not pay the full price. Refusing to be bullied into tipping for mediocre service, I tipped them 10%. Just before leaving the Manager came to the desk and asked how I was. I told her how dismayed I was with being ganged up on by 4 employees. She apologized. As I drove home I called the spa and spoke with the manager and expressed great dissatisfaction with the rudeness and unprofessionalism of it all. I also informed her that I was now more stressed than when i came in. I knew my friend would not want to go to such a creepy place. The manager said that they had had problems with the front desk there and that "managing so many locations was hard". She also told me that the girls were on salary and the discount I paid , in no way reflected what the girls earned. She said she would like to send me a coupon for a complimentary massage and asked for my email address. I rec'd an email the next morning asking me for a mailing address for the massage coupon and suggested I go to Bayside (Queens) for that massage as that's where their best masseuse is. I said that was too far and she recommended I go to their Mineola location which was opening that week. I was happy to get such positive customer service that i decided to hold off on writing a review until I experienced the other half of the customer service. Mineola was NOT open in a week and I had not received the coupon yet. The expiration of the second spa package coupon was fast approaching I contacted the manager again and she suggested we ask for Victoria and come to New Hyde Park again when Victoria was there. My friend was not going to be able to make it to NHP, and was turned off by all this and suggested I use the second spa package . I did make it to NHP and had a massage and facial with Victoria. the spa was still a little chilly but she was wonderful, and I had a great massage and facial. I tipped her accordingly (about 18%). Though I had a good experience the second time, I have written to the manager several times about the coupon that i did not receive. Its almost 2 months and I have not heard back. I could and would recommend the services of Victoria. However I do not feel the spa itself is trustworthy enough to garner my recommendation. The "great customer service" I thought I was receiving unfortunately fell through. There are way to many great locations to get a massage on Long Island to recommend one that's iffy. I've been here to get my eyebrows threaded. Not bad. Nothing special. Then I tried a shampoo and haircut here. This was a few years back. Not bad. Nothing special. Then I started bringing my 8-year old daughter here for her bangs to get trimmed. For only $5 it's worth it. So, one day I decided to have my daughter get the back part of her hair trimmed in addition to her bangs. What a mistake! Two long strands were left over. Even with the silicone thing that the lady draped over my daughter's head to help guide the straight across cut! Not worth the total of $10. I am planning to go somewhere else next time. read more

Don't ever go here for a Brazilian....I REPEAT...NEVER go here for a Brazilian. Long story short. They double-dip (more like triple, quadruple dip) their waxing sticks. The older lady who did my wax (bless her heart) prided herself on working quickly, but sadly, she is the slowest waxer alive. What normally is a 5-8 min wax, turned into a 30 minute hell ride. Watching my flesh turn bright red, she ripped, and ripped, and ripped (waxing the same areas multiple times). She must have used 40 waxing strips in total (no exaggeration). Not to mention, she didn't wax the inside of my derriere (sorry to be crass, but anyone who gets a Brazilian knows that this is a mandatory step). At one point, the pain got so bad, I was tempted to jump off the table and storm out with half of it done. To make matters worse, the dividers in the waxing room are so short and shabby, they don't actually shield one client from the other. A client walked in during my service and got a good look at my ravaged bits. My waxer must have been embarrassed at what had taken place, because she hurriedly waxed me towards the end and rushed out of the room (leaving the door wide open for all to see my bits...again). Unfortunately, it appears that when it comes to waxing services, Long Island just doesn't offer up the goods. I used to go to Shobha in NYC, and let me tell you, there is NO OTHER ESTABLISHMENT that does a better, cleaner, and faster Brazilian than Shobha. If I hadn't been exposed to Shobha, I might actually think my experience at Rani was the standard. I will never step foot in this establishment again. read more

The color really lasts for a long time, esp since they put me under the dryer for two hours lol. My hair is noticeably shiny and healthy looking afterwards. And its all natural too! I just got my nails done here today for the first time by Lina and she does a really good job. Jessie was great with henna hair. Highly recommend! Revision 6/22/13: I would only go here for henna for hair. The only reason why I posted the above review in the first place was cause the ladies that helped me that time were really nice and accommodating. And they thrusted an iPad in front of me and made me post a good review on Yelp. It would be awkward if I posted a sub-par review while they were looking over my shoulder. But they made me post it on the Westbury location by accident anyway, so...that was kinda useless. Now for my honest review. Before I used to specifically request this lady, Phyllis, to do henna for my hair and she did a wonderful job. I wouldn't let anyone else do it. But after she left, the service here is meh. You want to get your hair henna'd and have it last 5 weeks? Come here and get your hair henna'd and sit under the dryer for 2 hours. But don't expect the hair stylist to even be able to blow dry your hair properly. There have been countless occasions where I ended up styling my hair myself cause I don't like how they do it. That includes today. I have a graduated layered bob and I prefer that there is some shape, keeping my hair straight. I don't want it completely flat on the top with weird curliness going on towards the bottom. Looks so weird. I can do a better job when I wash my own hair and towel dry it. She says that when you're at a salon, you get your hair blow dried. I know that, but I've never had my hair look that bad at a salon before. And just from blow drying and styling. I wouldn't even let them go near me with a pair of shears. And they have raised the price of henna hair from 20 to 30 bucks. I should have bargained down the price since I ended up doing some of the work myself. I think I will next time. Oh, and the lady that was at the register was busy talking in Hindi(?) on the only phone line there, which would interrupt the credit card machine. I had to clear my throat loudly and say "excuse me" while waving my credit card around so that she could ring me up. Jesus. I got crap service and now I have to wait for her to finish her delightful conversation to pay for said service? Oh yeah, I waited an hour after my scheduled appointment for the stylist since her bus was delayed. I would choose to go to another place, but I found that there aren't too many places near me that do henna for hair. This place is awful. Went in for a waxing and asked if they double dipped. The staff worker said "no". When I was done, I was walking by the wax station and saw that they did double dip. Yuck!! If you are going in with a groupon, don't even do it. They are totally disorganized with their appointments. They will cancel your appt in a Heartbeat to accommodate another customer. I went along with a girlfriend, they have no idea what they are doing. Our nail and cuticles are all dry and cracked. She even filed the top of my nails, which now feels like the filer it self, every time I take my nail polish off. Now with groupon, the management has asked the workers to do a substandard pedi mani when anyone shows up with a groupon. Even though they paid for the "spa" mani pedi. I've come here for eyebrow threading on multiple occasions, and I've seen the haircuts that they give. I have not experienced waxing at this salon, but considering the reviews below, I doubt I ever will. The quality of the threading job obviously depends on the person doing it. Some people are quite good, while others are terrible (uneven brows and little cuts from drawing blood). Most of the women do not speak English well, so if you want something specific, the best thing to do is to bring a picture of what you're looking for. (Unless you happen to speak Hindi.) Afterward they ask you if you want a lotion or cream to soothe the area, but I usually decline because the women just stick their fingers in the tub of product and put it on your face (not hygienic). I just bring my own tube of aloe and put it on myself. Eyebrow threading is $6. As for the haircuts, I haven't personally cut my hair there, but I've seen quite a few on their clients, and I have to say that they're pretty awful. You'd probably get better cuts at Supercuts. The shapes are awful, and slightly uneven. The prices vary depending on what you're looking for. As for parking, it's a tiny and cramped strip of spaces that is shared by several businesses. It is very likely that you'll have to circle multiple times to find a spot. Sometimes I just park in the street and walk over. There is a minimum for credit card purchases, which I think is $10. For my purposes, this place is ok. I just stop by to get my brows cleaned up once every few months, and I bring my own pictures so that there is no confusion. read more

NHP LOCATION: threading I used to go here for eyebrow threading, but stopped because they weren't consistent with how they shaped/cleaned them up. I would go in with pictures and specific instructions on how I wanted them done, but they always ended up uneven (I know, your eyebrows are supposed to be "sisters, not twins," but they were noticeably uneven--one eyebrow was straight while the other had an arch--this is NOTHING close to my natural eyebrow shape at all. It was embarrassing and extremely unflattering). Also, they would thread my eyebrows way too short. So they were always short and uneven. I told the girls every other week, when I go in to get them done, that they're uneven and I'm trying to grow them out, but they just kept threading the hair away where I wanted it to grow out. MINEOLA LOCATION: Threading - Shortly after they opened, I tried them out. The woman who did my threading was named Shital (I'm not too sure on the spelling, but it's pronounced Shee-Tal). I was very satisfied with the way she threaded my eyebrows because she really listened to me, and she spent 5 whole minutes explaining my options on how I wanted my eyebrows done, because I had the same problem--they were short and uneven, and I needed her to fix them for me. I went back for a threading about 2-3 times. On the 3rd time, I decided to try a Brazilian wax. Brazilian wax - I was fairly satisfied with the wax, but I question the sanitary of their waxing procedure. She poured the wax from the bowl into a separate cup to use for my Brazilian, and usd a brand new stick. She used the same stick in my separate cup of wax, but admitted that they double dipped with the bowl of wax (when they wax brows, under arms, etc.) that she used to pour into my cup. Without warning, and WITHOUT GLOVES, Shital went right for my area with her BARE HANDS and baby oil before she began waxing. I was caught off guard and extremely uncomfortable/grossed out. When she was done, she asked if I wanted to tweeze or thread the little hairs left. I figured they used the tweezer for other girls as well, so I went with threading (since the thread gets ripped off after every use). She went out from the private waxing room and grabbed the thread that she uses for others' eyebrows/lips, etc and threaded me with it. Grossed out, I just told her to stop and I would tweeze it myself at home. She also didn't wash her hands before grabbing the thread, so the thread that she uses for everyone's brows and lips there is UNSANITARY. When it came time to pay, I told Shital that I lost my prepaid eyebrow card which cost me $63 and was only punched 1 or 2 times. She called her manager to see if I could get a replacement card, but I was denied. I was extremely DISSATISFIED with the manager's choice to not give me a replacement card, accusing me of scamming them. I was extremely offended being that I've told Shital on multiple occasions how much I love her threading. You would think that with the amount of satisfaction and times I spent going back there, they'd show some time of valued customer appreciation and replace my eyebrow card. Up until my waxing experience and experience with the manager's decline, I was satisfied with the eyebrow threading services I received. I'm sad to say that I will not be returning to ANY Rani Spas. In addition to all the reviews I read from the other women on this page, Rani SUCKS. read more

This place is not terrible, but I've had some bad experiences here. First of all, it's shabby looking, and the waxing room is borderline scary. Second, the parking lot is constantly full and it takes a while to find a spot. I've had my eyebrows threaded here, which was fine, and I've had a bikini wax here - I agree with another reviewer who posted here - Long Island is severely lacking in bikini waxing. I got amazing Brazilians when I lived in NYC and I cannot even find a place on Long Island that knows how to do a REGULAR bikini wax properly, let alone a Brazilian. My worst experience here, however, one which I easily could have sued for but didn't want to get involved, was when one of the newer waxers severely burned both my arms during a wax - I'm talking huge, second degree burns. I work at a medical establishment and when I came to work that day, the doctors immediately made me put prescription cream on and I had to dress the burns for nearly a week. To top it off, they burned my arms two days before a vacation, so my first day in Israel I had to wear long sleeves. To be fair, my skin does burn easily, so sometimes I will get a tiny burn here or there from waxing, but nothing of this caliber has ever happened to me before or since. The woman kept waxing and rewaxing the same places on my arms to the point where my skin was just horrifyingly red, and I actually teared up, which has never happened to me during a wax in my life. After that incident, I stopped coming to this place. I would say the only thing worth getting done here is eyebrow threading, but honestly there are many other places where it is just as good, if not better, and more inexpensive (there is a place in Floral Park called Dolly Salon that threads eyebrows incredibly for 2 dollars). Another thing - their credit card minimum is 10 dollars so if you're just going for threading or another small service, be sure to bring cash. (They don't notify you of this anywhere, not even on a sign, so I found this incredibly annoying). Lastly, the waxes are slow and take much longer than other places. read more

Was given a gift voucher for a red rose facial. Went to get it today and it was really such a lovely experience. My skin feels great and the woman who did it for me made me feel relaxed and comfortable. If I were Rani, I would market my spas to feature these treatments because they're actually worth the money and the place itself is equipped with a gorgeous area for spa treatments that I'm sure is under used and underrated. Was here with a groupon for a "spa mani/pedi". Not only was this not an upgraded mani/pedi, but it was completely amateurish. The girl did a worse job than my 13 yr old niece would do. She cut me 2 times, made a mess of my cuticles, had to be told not to file top of the nails, and was not using sterile equipment (which I didn't realize until I saw her just rinse it in the sink for the next customer). To make matters worse, they only have a dozen or so bottles of polish which are all old and thick. She did a sloppy polish job and it all bubbled up when it dried. Try to get your money back from groupon or see if you can apply it to products. You don't want to have any services done here. read more

I've come here numerous times for eyebrows and waxing. The eyebrow threading has been fine, but the waxing has been HORRIBLE. Either you get someone who is super slow that keeps going over the same area of skin until it hurts and turns red or you get someone who drips wax all over your clothes and doesn't even apologize. The girl had the audacity to say it comes out in the wash, like that should make it ok that you just dripped wax on me and didn't even apologize. They are sloppy and wax is all over the floors. This isn't the first time this has happened to me at this location, so I was especially annoyed. I tried to iron the wax out using a brown paper bag and that didn't work. She didn't even offer any type of discount. I will not go back for another wax again. read more

terrible! glorified back rub. the woman had no knowledge of muscles etc. just rubbed my back arms legs etc for 50 minutes. vey disappointing. the room had a window with a curtain that did not fully cover the window the window opened into the rest of the spa so there was not real privacy. while having my back rub you could hear all the other women talking in the other part of the spa. no soothing music. not relaxing at all. read more

i have only ever had my eyesbrows done here, and its the only place i trust with them! my eyebrows have no shape so i just ask them to clean them up and i like that they dont shape them anyway which other places do. Although. everytime i go there, there are different ladies working so if you find one you like don't expect to get her next time =/. i just got back from there and it was my best experience yet, Jessica fixed my eyebrows up nicely and even gave me advice on how to shape them if i want to in the future. I bought two promotional gift certificates online for $50 where you get a facial, massage, eyebrow threading, and wash and blowout. Sounds too good to be true right? Well that's exactly what it turned out to be. There were "required" gratuities listed on the certificate which were kind of excessive. I wasn't trying to be cheap but I didn't buy a $50 gift certificate so I could spend $160 in tips. After getting the runaround at the salons I finally got the number for the business manager who assured me that those were just suggested amounts. I decided to finally give the salon a try with my mom a few days before Thanksgiving for facials and eyebrow threading. The facial on the gift certificate was supposed to be for a green mineral facial but it was hands down one of the worst facials I have ever received and I have had quite a few facials in my day. The woman bleached my face as part of the facial which was a little weird to me but I just went with it. The rest of the facial was just bad, the woman just didn't seem to know what she was doing. The facials were supposed to last an hour but they ended in close to 40 minutes. The eyebrows were just as bad and I get my eyebrows threaded every other week. She left many stray hairs and said she was unable to get them out. My mother's experience was equally as bad and her woman didn't even remove her rings before giving my mom her facial! It came time for us to leave and we tipped the women $20 each which was pretty generous considering the overall experience there. The woman who did my mom's facial (I believe her name was Bella) started arguing saying they deserved a bigger tip. I told her I wasn't going to tip for service that I thought was subpar but she continued to argue with me and make a scene in the now fairly crowded salon. My mom gave the woman another $20 just to stop her from making a scene against my wishes. I will never go back to any other Rani spas after this experience. I have no problem tipping well for quality work but I have a huge problem with people asking for a bigger tip especially when the service really sucked. I have to agree - THIS PLACE IS THE PITS!! After receiving a gift certificate for a 1 hour massage I followed the instructions and made an appointment online for the Westbury location. When I arrived I was told that they had no reservation for me but that the message therapist would see me at the NHP location. The lobby was very tacky with ripped on chairs and stained floors. I was escorted into a room and told to undress and prepare for my treatment. I looked around and noticed a large window with a curtain that covered only half of it so I went to the corner of the room to undress. The room decor was uninviting to say the least and I realized that the same song had now played over again for the 5th time. Liz the massage therapist was down right brutal!! I told her that she was hurting me and she insisted it was because I was tense and that I would feel better after. The more she tore in to me and the more the same damn song played the more tense I became. Thank God that she ended the torture early and told me that if I came on a regular I would feel better. Are you kidding me???? She offered me water and then brought me a small plastic cup of warm water. My advice - STAY AWAY!!! read more
