Recently Rapid Response removed our old water heater and replaced it with a tankless water heater system. The quality of the work and the techs that installed were excellent. After we detected a humming noise when running hot water, we notified Rapid Response of the problem. They came back right away and after several failed attempts at fixing, they did the right thing by ordering and installing a brand new unit. Problem solved. These guys are GREAT. I had to call at 9:30 on a Thursday night and they were at my place in an hour. The tech that evening was efficient and professional, and when I spoke with a different person the next day to order a replacement part, he waited on my final decision for several hours without complaint. The furnace had a different issue on Saturday (an old problem that cropped up again) and they came within an hour again, despite the snowstorm that had struck the area. The serviceman who arrived was beyond polite and explained the situation both to my tenant and to myself. Our furnace refused to start up one very cold January morning. The house was freezing and getting colder by the minute. We called 3 different plumbers. Our usual plumber said they couldn't get someone out until the next day at 10AM. That wasn't going to work. The second plumber never called back, after two increasingly desperate calls. The third, Rapid Response, had a guy out within about an hour. He fixed the problem for a flat charge that was agreed upon once he saw what was wrong (thermocouple was shot). Plumbers are paid by the hour plus parts. I have never been charged in 25 years of owning a home by each thing they were going to fix on a leaking toilet! For example, my toilet was leaking and ended up needing a new supply line valve and fill valve. It took 45 minutes. But rather than charge for the time (1 hour) plus parts, they charged almost $400 for the supply and almost $200 for the fill valve. And this was in addition to $225 for coming after hours at 6:45. $800 to fix a toilet? Unbelievable. read more

We were referred to Rapid Response by our plumber because we needed a leaking heater to be addressed rather quickly (within 12-14 hours). After calling, naming our referral, and setting up an appointment time, I was told they don't service our area and then the person on the phone HUNG UP on me. Can you spell RIP OFF! What a mistake I made having them come to service my air conditioning system. They wanted to charge me $190 for them to go to Worburn to pick up a part as well as $89 for a new air filter. I live 1 mile from Home Depot.....an air filter cost approximately $7-12. When I rejected this they agreed to give me one at no charge......that's because they charged me $216 for a "diagnostic review" to determine what the problem was and then another $334 for the part I needed. The service person was decent but he is not the owner. DO NOT use these people unless you want to clean out your check book! read more

Buyer beware! Would not recommend. I own/manage 17 properties in Boston and these are one of the worst outfits I have seen. Be prepared for a $150 fee for them to drive to your house, then it will cost a quoted minimum of $287 to repair a leaking pipe. read more

Save yourself $$$ and DO NOT use this company. Got completely ripped off by them. They didn't provide an accurate quote over the phone for the standard service. When the guy showed up, he quoted twice the amount we expected, so we had to write him a $39 check and send him away. We called the other company and they did the same job for $100 less. read more

They have installed 2 replacement furnaces for me, attic and basement, and did a spectacular and professional job. I have ZERO complaints. I recommend them to friends. Quick story. The first one that was replaced was in the basement. It was just before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving morning there was some smoke coming out of the vents. We were in a panic because we had 20+ people coming over and it was realty cold outside. They were at my house in 30 minutes! No charge for anything. Turns out there was probably something that just burned up up in the new furnace and all was well, but it was great that they cared enough to come over so quickly. read more

Very frustrating experience! I needed my landscaping drain cleaned out before a storm. I called them for their advisement of rapid response. They gave me an appt window for the next day which I took because I had 24 hours before the heavy rains. I explained my situation with probable flooding. The next day during my appointment window and throughout the afternoon the dispatcher read from a script. ""I do apologize Mam, we call you when a technician becomes available". Finally towards the end of the day I asked them for one thing.... can you tell you if someone will be here today. Same response. I am frustrated they strung me along for 24 hours as I could have made other arrangements both in protecting my home and taking the day off work. No one came! read more

I have used Rapid Response for all of my plumbing needs since moving into our house six years ago. Most recently, in March 2011, our water heater failed early in the morning. I called Rapid Response and had someone at my house in less than a half-hour (no exaggeration). After determining the issue and outlining all of the work that needed to be done and the price to do it, the technician and an assistant had a new hot water heater installed within the next two hours (my house requires a difficult to install power-vented heater). All the while during installation, they are happy to answer questions about what's being done and are very good about putting things back the way they were before they arrived. When the techs have been at my house working on a job, I have asked questions about other things in my house that could need work or maintenance (furnace maintenance, strange pipe noises, etc). They have always been honest with me about whether things REALLY need to be looked at, or what I hear/see is normal. I have had other contractors in similar situations say that EVERYTHING needs immediate work or investigation (basically looking to get new jobs). Rapid Response has proven that they value me as a customer, and I absolutely value them as my go-to plumber. read more

After calling 8 other HVAC people at 8:30 pm Friday night in the Newton, MA area to see why our 22 year old furnace was blowing cold air, called Rapid Response and they came out the next day (would have come out that night). Dan checked over the system and found the problem right away. Had heat again in about an hour. Angie's List is a crock. Everyone I called from there was more than willing to let my family freeze. Rapid Response plumbing has installed toilets, faucets and shower hardware for us in two different homes. In our new home they converted us to gas, then installed two new heating units and two new ac units. They were there when they said they would be. They were clean (wore the slippers over their shoes rain, snow, and sunshine) and were so easy to work with and talk to. Things never got left behind to go to another job and come back to me a few days later (which has happened to me before). Great guys!!!! read more

The technician was on time and professional however he responded to a very small problem by taking apart our boiler and THEN telling us it would be $600+ to fix it and he refused to put it back together. He left our house (in late December) with no heat or hot water and for that we paid nearly $200! I called someone else who vacuumed out the exhaust pipe (quickly fixing the draft issue), put everything back together and turned on our heat for NOTHING. UGH $200 down the tubes. read more

Beware!!!!!! - this business is a complete rip off. I called them out to fix our hot water heater which they had originally installed 12 years ago and they told me over the phone was covered by a warranty. They came out and ended up charging me almost $1185 for a 4 hour job (almost $300/hour!!!) and then told me that the warranty didn't cover the water heater unless I had the original receipt and therefore they needed to charge me an additional $1280 for the cost of the water tank. They will take you for as much as they can get from you. Consider someone else for plumbing help!!!! read more

I've been working with these guys for several years and while they are a bit pricey, they are THE BEST when it comes to response -- and they basically saved my sanity this past week when my A/C's motor went down. At first they told me it would be "a few days" before they could get the replacement motor -- when they saw me about to implode, they pulled out the stops and got the motor overnighted from CA -- 24 hours later, up and running. My furnace wasn't working in the middle of January. He came out said I needed a new filter and "safety switch". I paid him $300. Its now the beginning of February and my furnace isn't working at all. Called him back and he said $149 to come out plus cost of repairs. I asked if he had any warranty on his work since it hadn't even been 3 weeks and he said NO! read more

Came to fix my A/C about 5 hours after calling even though they were busy. Guys did a temporary fix to get me through the weekend, luckily as I have a young child, and then fixed it the next week pretty quickly/easily. They always called in advance, came when they said they would, and were really nice guys. I have had such bad luck with all trades, but this was great. I'd hire them again in a second if needed. read more
